Justin Bieber ...conquers Dave Letterman Late Show! Pop Idol charismatic...

Justin just a kid!
(with a lot of raw talent)

The traffic stalled, and the atmosphere was electric, as a throng of excited fans queued up in downtown Manhattan in front of CBS studios to catch a glimpse of heart-throb Justin Bieber who was slated to make an appearance on the Dave Letterman show.

The pop star (who hails from Stratford-on-Avon in Southern Ontario) was expected to alight from a chauffered vehicle right before their eyes before being ushered inside the Ed Sullivan Theatre to unveil his spanking new single "My World 2.0".

Wherever Bieber shows up these days - at a recording studio or movie screening at a local movie house - a posse of die-had fans appear out of the woodwork anxious to bask in the glow of his moment in the sun.

And, Dave Letterman was inclined to milk it for all it was worth!

Although Bieber is only sixteen, the toothy late-night talk-show host, wasn't a trifle worried about hustling the rising young star out-the-door early into the show so he could be home in his comfy bed by midnight.

With wicked glee, Dave forced Bieber's fans (even loyal studio audiences) to wait with bated breath until the near-close of the show to catch the sexy pop crooners performance live on stage.

Right after commercial break - and after other high profile guests had evaporated into thin air - Dave Letterman introduced Bieber with little ado (and a touch of amusement in his voice).

When the first strains of the upbeat catchy tune revved up, Justin - clad in chic black leather jacket, tight-fitting jeans, and blood-red sneakers - strutted about the stage confidently with a puppy-dog look on his face sure to melt the  crustiest old cynic in the house.

I expect that tomorrow - ensembles pieces will be flying off the shelves of retail outlets around the country - provided astute in-house stylists are quick on the fashion uptake.

Flanked by two gifted dancers on each side - Justin threw his heart and soul into a tricky eye-catching highly-choreographed dance routine - somewhat reminsicent of those that other boy bands dazzled us with over the years.

But, the fresh-faced cover boy managed to breathe new life into the little-bit-pop little-bit-soft-rock bubblegum act.

I expect that a handful of fans below the floodlights edged forward in their seats every time Justin pounded his heart with a hand  gesture that drove home the depth of his passion.

Oh, baby!

The gig ended in thunderous applause, but not before Dave Letterman got a dig in, edgewise.

"So," Dave teased, "I guess your mother is going to pick you up?"

Yup.

Even pop stars have curfews, especially when they're just sweet sixteen!

Ah, the sweet bird of youth, eh?
