The 24-hour grind - that was Jack Bauer's life - is screeching to a halt!
Fox announced Friday that the highly-rated action-adventure serial will wrap and not return for another season at the Network.
The last episode will broadcast on May 24th (2010).
Allegedly, Kiefer Sutherlanad was given the option to continue, but he chose to close the show on a "high note".
"This has been the role of a lifetime and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible," Kiefer said in a prepared statement to media outlets chomping at the bit for any juicy tidbit about the fate of the Fox hit.
"The decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon."
Fans of the show were in mourning this weekend.
But, chin up, folks!
If a dynamite script idea for a big-budget features ends up on the written page - and gets the nod from Sutherland - the project may be greenlighted for the silver screen (according to inside sources).
'Til then, Keifer, take a much-needed break!
All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy, after all.
