Proposition 8...did 70% of Blacks vote down Gay Marriage? Are West Hollywood gays racist?

Yesterday, I posted a feature about Gay activists who protested the outcome of the Prop 8 initiative on Hollywood Boulevard the other evening, amid an overwhelming presence of riot police.

Some chastised the LAPD for "overkill".

Within minutes of posting, I was quite alarmed to receive a message from one blogger, who asserted that West Hollywood "gays" had it coming, essentially.

Here is what he said, verbatim:

"I don’t know why that West Hollywood crowd are all pissed off at blacks because they voted 70% in support of Proposition 8. The reaction they are having toward blacks, etc. is “exactly” why they voted the way they did.

Everyone knows those Gays up in Weho are some of the most “racist” group of people unless it benefits “them”. Here’s some advice West Hollywood Group or Gay’s. How about trying to treat people the way you want to be treated.

If you all want Prop 8 passed one day and get the support — how about getting the support of these other “groups” and help them understand why they should support your cause. Calling people names and using the “slave derogatory word” won’t get you anywhere.

If anything it will make people vote against you. Final word, take “no one’s vote” for granite. Hatred and ignorance has no place in America anymore! If you want “America” to change — you have to start in your own house first."

In my response comment, I noted - for starters - that there were more "blacks" living and working in WEHO than ever before.

And, I might add, in harmony with their neighbors!

I should know; after all, I've resided in West Hollywood for the past twenty years.

Frankly, Monster 62's response was out-of-line, if you ask me.

Not only have gays welcomed blacks, Mexicans - whomever - into the community with open arms, they also incorporated a city where gays and minorities could feel comfortable in their skin, at home in their sexuality, and free of discrimination.

Notwithstanding the obvious, when A.I.D.S. first broke out years ago, it was the gay community that reached out to all those inflicted when the government, straights, and the ignorant would not.

Despite skin color or sexual persuasion, gays offered medical services, shelter, food, and financial assistance.

The A.I.D.S. walk was also instituted, in a bold-faced effort to build a powerhouse of resources so scientists, doctors, and researchers could fight the disease and hasten a cure.

I find it appalling - if true, as Monster 62 alleges - that 70% of the Black community voted down Gay Marriage.

When gays jumped on the bandwagon, and started to back Obama in his bid to be 1st Black President of the United States, I recall penning a post that posed an all-important question of the Presidential hopeful.

Would Barack be urging his supporters to Vote "no" on Proposition 8?

If he took appropriate action, his voice must have fallen on deaf ears.

In retrospect, it appears that the Black Community stabbed all gays in the back.

Is that the thanks gays get for opening up their community in a spirit of humanity?

In view of what has transpired in recent days, I can only opine this.

Too bad we can't turn back the clock!

If blacks are unhappy with the gay lifestyle in West Hollywood, then they should find another community to leach off of.

They're a thorn in the community's side, otherwise!
