Mickey Rourke steals show!
Obviously, the producers (and studio heads) were keen to the fact they had a blockbuster hit on their hands and went for broke true Hollywood-style.
I reported on the glittering event the following morning.

Today, I took in an actual screening, alongside hundreds of hyped-up fans at the AMC Theatre in Century City.
The action-adventure thriller didn't disappoint!
Normally, this kind of super-hero flick is not my ball-of-wax, but there is alot to crow about.
For instance, the strong cast turned in well-fleshed-out characterizations during the course of the fast-paced, grossly entertaining, big budget celluloid offering.
With a couple of exceptions, though.
In spite of the fact Gwyneth Paltrow's character was named Pepper - there was little of that spunk - in her performance.
Talk about sleep-walking through a performance!
Unfortunately, Gary Shandling's plastic surgery was do distracting, it was difficult to go beyond and actually zero in on his character (what there was of it).
Joan Rivers relinquishes her title as best example of what can go wrong when a plastic surgeon fu**s up royally!
Mickey Rourke's stand-out stint as an arch villain is nothing short of astounding.
The kid that's been kicked around Hollywood, and back again, rises like a phoenix from the ashes!
Robert Downey Jr.'s acting is surprisingly nuanced - although there is a tendency to fall back on old tricks of the trade - to wow an audience.
Not necessary!
The studio writers were smart to humanize the Iron Man hero, by the way.
Samuel L. Jackson, Sam Rockwell, and Don Cheadle inhabit their roles keenly.
Scarlett Johannson - like Rourke - just about steals the show (she's so damn good!).
Foruntately, to its credit, the studio didn't stray too far from the main plotline - and muddy up the screen with sub-plots which inexperienced studio execs (with no gift for writing or telling a story) are want to do.
The undisputed star of Iron Man?
Without doubt, the visuals - and eye-popping dazzling special effects - which keep the audience on the edge of their seat on a pretty satisfying roller-coaster ride.
3 Stars!
