For a couple of days - cool temperatures and cloudy skies that threatened downpours - caused tourists to reach for sweathers and windbreakers to bundle up.
But, on Sunday, the sun broke through and brought smiles to their faces, as they proceeded to tour the charming streets of romantic San Francisco in droves.
Today, the mercury soared and inspired locals to take flight from indoors, too.
But, in spite of a warning to take public transportatiion to reduce the carbon footprint, many residents shrugged sheepishly when they were coralled by reporters on the street and asked if they followed the directive of local Officials.
"The distance from home prevented it," one man begged off.
For the most part, though, San Franciscans are a pretty responsible lot, who actively get involved in important issues of the day (particularly those related to green house gases and the environment) with the ultimate aim of raising the consciousness in their own unique way.
Weather forecasters are predicting that tomorrow will be the hottest day of the year.
Though some are grumbling that summer arrived late this year, many are ecstatic about the the shifting climatic overdrive.
With the kids trundling back to school a scant few days away, a lazy day or two in the sun is a plus right now for parents and offspring alike.
A nudist group took advantage of the glorious blaze on Sunday to stroll naked on the pier.
"No tan line," one dude chuckled to a TV camera-man - who blurred the image of the sun worshipper's protruding junk - so the broadcast could go off without a hitch (or an outcry from prudish TV viewers at home).
However, high winds are expected to swirl into the bay area later in the week, and take some of the sizzle off.
Even still, for a tourist like moi, the streets of San Francisco are the best August get-a-way bet right now.
