Treasure Island futuristic neighborhood complex!
One of Mayor Newsom’s top honchos at San Francisco's revolving door at City Hall is handing over his reins to a successor at the end of September to start up his own business concern.
Some say, the departure is ending a long-standing Michael Cohen stint at City Hall, on a top note
Michael Cohen is currently the Director of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development.
Curiously, the innovative visionary is not exiting amid a swirl of controversy or scandal.
In fact, the down-to-earth City official intended to pack it in over 11 years ago, but was encouraged to stay on by a young Mayor opportunistic about the future of the picturesque city by the bay.
If there have been differences of opinion - or any strains in his relationship with Newsom (who just inked a commitment for a landmark futuristic-style neighborhood project this past week at Hunter’s Point) - he’s keeping mum.
Insiders confirm that Cohen has been a major asset to the city, but concede, his contributions may not be fully recognized until after the dust has settled.
His legacy includes the Treasure Island complex slated for a green light (aforementioned) and the Transit Authority Station which is being constructed to accomodate the spanking-new high-speed super train.
Cohen has been hailed as a shrewd dealmaker who cut a fine swath in the corridors of power downtown.
For good reason, his resignation is perceived as a loss to the city of San Francisco.
Calvin Welch, an activist in the housing field, sang Cohen's praises.
"He was the single most important mind , voice, and guiding hand on the entire development side of the Newsom administration," he raved.
Meanwhile, the Mayor intends to announce his replacement in the near future.
