Rafal Blechacz - the renowned Polish pianist whose Chopin has been hailed by critics as - "a far cry from the droopy speculative rhapodist so many pianists give us" - makes a triumphant return to the Herbst Theatre on Sunday February 20th.
The much-anticipated concert - expected to be a sell-out - is slated for 3:00 PM.
Music-lovers will recall that Mr. Blechacz swept the field at the prestigious Chopin Piano Competitions in Warsaw in October of 2005.
In fact, the remarkable virtuoso snapped up every coveted prize that was possible to win, go figure!
On the heels of that outstanding accomplishment, Blechacz has been a much-sought-after talent, booked solid on concert tours that have spanned the globe in recent days.
Enthusiastic fans have packed houses in London (at the Wigmore), Amsterdam (the Concertgebouw), Moscow (with the Marinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev), Munich, Brussels, Madrid, and Tokyo.
"Chopin is a vigorous forthright presence," when played by Blechacz, noted one critic for the San Francisco Chronicle.
On Sunday, the International Star of the concert circuit will perform the following pieces:
*Mozart
Variations in C major, K.264
*Debussy
L'isle Joyeuse
*Szymanowski
Sonata No. 1 in C minor, Op.8

(No. 1 in G minor, Op 23 & No. 2 in F major, Op.38)

No doubt the audiences will be wowed once again by this remarkable talent.
