Britney Spears..."Circus" comes to Vegas MGM Grand! June 25th!

Just a few weeks ago, San Franciscans maneuvered their way into a frenzied packed concert hall downtown, to get an up-close and personal gander at their Pop Princess!

Although a handful of critics sniped over every little thing - from the pouty star's alleged "lacklustre" robot-like dance moves to her oh-so ho-hum wardrobe struts - the die-hard fans were not disappointed in the least.

Now, the big Britney Spears "Circus" heads into Las Vegas on the 25th of June, and lands at the MGM Grand arena.

I expect the much-anticipated Brit extravaganza will be a sell-out!

See 'ya there, eh?

Julian Ayrs...In Concert! Gigs on horizon!

Well, I finally decided to take the plunge!

Today, I purchased a mic and an amp and I've started to rehearse a roster of tunes to perform for solo gigs in the near future.

It occurred to be bright-and-early at the crack-of-dawn today - that it was important to get my a** in gear - while my voice is still relatively golden (and intact) and my range still far-reaching.

And, before I depart this mortal coil, of course!

Of all my gifts, my voice was probably the best one God ever bestowed on me, without doubt.

If I am in a restaurant and I sing along to a tune playing on the radio, other patrons turn around in their seats, and stare at me in amazement.

In Church, I am likewise the center of attention, when I sing out my favourite hymns!

I am a cross between Johnny Mathis and Elvis Presley!

So, in the near future, I'll be popping up on stage - in the streets, too - crooning a handful of my signature songs such as - "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "This Masquerade", "People", "My Heart Will Go On", "Don't Let me be Misunderstood", "All I Ask", "I Want to be Free", "You Don't have to Say You Love Me", "Over the Rainbow", "Oh, Baby" (original), "Main Street" (original) - to name a few!

If you spy me performing, do stroll up and say hi, eh?

Oh Land...pretty Pop flavor appears @ trendy Cafe Du Nord! San Francisco! April 13th!

Oh Land, the pretty bombshell Pop Singer making waves around the country with her hit dance tune -"Son of a Gun" - is sashaying into San Francisco to open for "Francis and Lights" at the Cafe Du Nord on Wednesday Night (April 13th).

Readers at the Tattler may recall that I posted a review of her live! Stage Performance which I caught at The Abbey in WeHo a few weeks ago.

Post:  02/14/2011

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2011/02/oh-landlive-performance-abbey-hit-with.html

Since then, as predicted, the Danish lovely - with oodles of talent and charisma to boot - has been trotted out to perform for gushing audiences on the Late Night talk-show circuit (Dave Letterman, for example).

Oh Land - while thrilled with the attention - remains down-to-earth and realistic.

"So, already at 10,  I was aware that I could be replaced by somebody else at any time. I definitely grew up with a number on my belly," she confided to a reporter at the San Francisco Examiner.

"Because at Ballet school (which she vigorously attended in her youth), half of the ones they took in each year were thrown out the next, and you would get a letter each year, telling you if you could continue or not. It was quite horrible," she recalled in horror.

And, you thought the Black Swan (Natalie Portman) had it bad!

Now, in the realms of the Pop spotlight, does she have to worry about being just a flavor of the month?

Justin Bieber...man-to-man with Coach Mike Gundy! All about "Ringtones", dudes!

Justin Bieber and football coach Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) strange bedfellows?

Not exactly!

But, the winsome twosome have struck up a healthy "Ringtone" admiration Society!

'Ya see, the teen heartthrob caught wind of Gundy's rant.

"Come After me! I'm a Man! I'm 40!"

Needless to say, the pop flavor of the month thought it was a laugh riot.

So, quick as a wink (and the bashing of a pretty eyelash later) the "Bieb" downloaded the catchy mantra onto his high-tech cell with the red-hot private number.

Needless to say, Gundy jumped on the kid's bandwagon when the scuttlebutt hit his ear - by installing a "Ringtone" of the Bieb's hit single - "Baby".

I guess, there's something about a man in a uniform!

What's goin' on in-between the designer sheets?

Justin Bieber...top ten list pokes fun at celebrity! Dave Letterman show!

Last night Justin Bieber surprised fans and television viewers alike when he popped up on the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theatre to take a poke at his celebrity status for Dave's ever-popular Top Ten List!

Although the segment is a biit spotty at times - poorly-written now-and-then and often missing the funny bone by a country mile - the Bieber material was pretty high calibre!

A couple of my fave jabs?

*It’s good to be a pop star without having to audition for American Idol's Steven Tyler.

*Cross me and I’ll have 50,000 screaming girls come to your house to mess you up.

*When I’m sick my doctor makes hilarious jokes about Bieber fever.

*The chance to visit The Late Show and my idol Paul Schaffer.
(Canucks always stick together, 'ya know?)

*At the Barber shop, I can say, “Give me the me.”
(Is that kind of like jerking off?)

*If I tweet  “I just sneezed” a billion people will tweet “gesundheit.”

You betcha, kid!

Don't want some nasty cold putting a damper on your next stage performance!

By the way, the "Bieb's" delivery wasn't half-bad.

The diction was pretty good, in fact!

The pop star showed potential in the comic-timing department, too.

Are romantic features on the horizon?

Later!

Justin Bieber...Mom says Pop Idol's talents a gift from God!

According to Justin Bieber's Mother, the Pop sensation's meteoric rise to superstardom was no accident.

In this month's issue of Vanity Fair - Justin graces the front cover - the dotting parent attributes the phenomenal success (and launch of the kid's talent into the stratosphere) to Divine Intervention.

Allegedly, Bieb's Mother was floundering around (buoyed down) at one point in her life because of a nasty problem with alcohol and drug addiction.

"One day I met God," she confided to the reporter who penned the insightful feature for the trendy magazine which hit the stands at supermarkets at the tail-end of this week.

It is her sincere belief that the Lord blessed her son with his gifts to share with the world.

Personally, I don't find the notion particularly startling.

A couple of years ago, I experienced a visitation from the Holy Spirit, so I am inclined to believe the woman.

In what amounts to a tell-all interview the Pop Star's Mother fessed up - that from the beginning - she was wary of hiring "yes" men when her son was first began to pursue his music career on YouTube and other high profile social hubs on the Internet.

"I was afraid he'd become a bit of a Diva," she stated matter-of-fact.

Ma'am the kid turned out alright, you betcha!

The publicity still on the first page of the Vanity Fair in-depth chat is a real hoot.

Justin is covered with smooch marks on his face, as a gaggle of girls press up against the window outside, and pine for his undying love (or at least a glance their way, for starters).

The spread is an ultra-slick promotion at its tippy-top best when it comes to the magazine trade!

What's next?

A coveted feature in Fortune 500?

Just maybe, when you consider that the sexy heartthrob was one of the biggest money-makers in the music business this past year.

In fact, the numbers are staggering!

Justin Bieber...CSI role reprised! 3-D biopic released in February!

It appears that Justin Bieber is intent on proving his "acting chops"!

Perhaps the teen pop flavor of-the-month can see the writing on the wall?

At Facebook, or wherever!

A teenie-bopper's crush can be fickle, after all, in the topsy-turvy world of sexy young Pop Stars.

Just maybe, Bieber is seeking to make a star turn - and thus - gain a solid foothold in show biz as a respected actor?

Can some coaching, or a stage production in New York, be far behind for the Kid wonder?

Inquiring minds want to know - as Justin returns to CSI this week in an episode - to reprise his role as a troubled teen on the celebrated crime show.

The "Bieb" with the bob made his acting debut on the hit night-time drama originally in the role of Jason McCann.

The pop singer's scenes (being shot this week) are slated for broadcast on February 17th.

By the way, the sensual young heart-throb's 3-D biopic (replete with concert footage) - "Never Say Never" - is due out next month as well.

Bieber will undoubtedly be quite the high-profile Valentine (can 'ya hear the hearts go pitter-patter?) up for grabs in February, eh?

Unless that new sweetie in his life has anything to say about it!

Actor's looks!

Dr. Conrad Murray...Jackson's Doctor must face trial for murder! Stripped of license!

After a week of testimony and strenuous court theatrics - a Judge presiding over a preliminary hearing pertaining to the mysterious death of Michael Jackson - has ruled that Dr. Conrad Murray must face manslaughter charges for his complicity in the sudden demise of the King of Pop.

When Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor handed down his verdict yesterday, he also stripped the doctor of his medical license, on the grounds that Murray was a threat to the community-at-large.

Specifically, the Jurist noted for the public record - that to allow Murray to continue to practice medicine - "would constitute an imminent danger to public safety."

During the course of the six-day preliminary hearing - a media frenzy prevailed outside on the courthouse steps - as a posse of witnesses (upwards of twenty in number) paraded through a gauntlet flanked with media hounds and into the courtroom to give testimony which kept rapt onlookers in the gallery on the edge of their seats.

Members of the Michael Jackson's family were in attendance throughout most of the hearing, but tended to remain silent during the course of the proceedings or when approached my overjealous reporters.

According to the Judge, evidence presented at hearing by prosecutors showed "a direct nexus in connection between the acts and omissions of Dr. Murray and the homicide in the case".

Subsequently, it was the order of the Superior Court that Dr. Conrad Muray stand trial on charges of manslaughter.

No doubt, the trial will turn into a media circus, too.

Stay posted, eh?

Justin Bieber...Acoustic tune "Pray" splashes on Internet!

Justin Bieber's much-ballyhooed effort - "My World's Acoustic" - has hit the web two weeks before the disc was due to be released on November 26th.

To the delight of mop-topped Bieber fans!

"Pray" uses a string section, synthesizers and congas to get the juices flowing!"

The tune is also rife with heartfelt thoughts.

Bieber croons:

I know there's sunshine beyond that rain
I know there's good times beyond that pain
Heaven, tell me I can make a change

Bieber fans - anxious to snap up publicity stills - may be thrilled to hear that the pop Icon has launched a new web site where photographs by Robert Caplin (featuring Bieber) will be posted.

http://www.bieberpix.com/

Caplin was one of the artists who worked on Bieber's recently published memoir:

"First Step 2 Forever: My Story"

"Robert Caplin is gonna be posting never before seen pics every week to help others," Bieber tweeted the end of last week.

Proceeds from sales of prints sold on the site will be donated to an unnamed charity.
Just betcha, they'll be snapped up in no-time-flat!

Britney Spears...a pro on Glee set! Mellowed by love...

Familiar face returns to music circuit!

Word from the GLEE set was that Britney Spears was quite the seasoned pro when she turned up last week for rehearsals on the lot.

In fact, the cast and crew literally gushed over the high-profile celebrity who was allegedly down-to-earth and friendly to all who crossed her path.

Britney is obviously thrilled with the star-turn on the top-rated Glee - or, just maybe - a secret lover is fanning the passions in her little love next at home these days?

Bob Dylan...concert tonight @ Warfield in San Francisco! Elusive poet intrigues!

The elusive street poet - Bob Dylan - slips out of the musical shadows to appear at a special one-time gig at the Warfield on Market  Street tonight (San Francisco).

The price tag for a ticket is hefty, though.

$60.00

The doors swing open at 5:30 p.m.

The legendary 60's icon is expected to saunter onstage @ 8 p.m.

By the way, Bob Dylan purists  have something to look forward to a little later in the year when the leaves turn crimson and gold and start to flutter to the ground come October.

The 9th installment of a Bootleg Series of tunes will be stocking the shelves of  retail outlets in the Bay area.

"The Whitmark Demos: 1962-1964" are a collection of 47 rough takes of Dylan that have survived the passage of time over the decades.

Along with early renditions of well-known classics such as - “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” “Masters of War,” and “Mr. Tambourine Man,” - the must-have packet  will also feature 15 Dylan originals in the demo stage.

Columbia Records has issued a press release in which they note:

"Dylan is accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, harmonica and occasionally piano.”

Although a handful of the catchy ditties have seen the light of day in a dog-eared fashion previously, die-hard fans are excited about snapping up the Columbia release which will be showcased in a legitimate format with linear notes

On Oct. 19th, there will also be a release of a box set with remastered mono versions of Dylan's first eight albums (1962′s Bob Dylan through 1967′s John Wesley Harding).

Cool, eh?

The morning after!

Ricky Martin...to star in EVITA stage production! Tour on horizon...

Ricky Martin will be starring in a Broadway production of - Evita - which producer Hal Luftig promises will be a true Latino effort.

“All major roles will be played by Latino actors,” he boasted.

Martin will tackle the role of Che in the Frank Lloyd Webber revival.

Elena Roger - who was previously lauded for her performance in a London production - has also been pacted.

Actors take note!

The role of Juan Peron is yet to be cast.

Ricky, who came out several weeks ago (he was allegedly the last person to recognize he was “gay”), is no stranger to the boards.

The effervescent charismatic Pop Icon previously crooned and danced on stage in the popular award-winning hit "Les Miserables".

A slew of fans are chomping at the bit, no doubt, to catch Martin in concert live when his tour revs up in the fall.

Is there a marriage on the horizon, too?

Justin Bieber...auspicious sign for a pop tune! Heartthrob shirtless...

Tin Pan Alley!

In the olden-golden-days it was often speculated that if a theatre-goer strolled out of a Broadway production on Tin Pan Alley - and whistled one of the tunes featured in the show on opening night - that it would be a hit.

In the modern day, there are other auspicions signs that bode well for a Pop singer.

For example, today a local News Anchor in Vegas noted that his three-year old dances around the house excitedly chirping the Justin Bieber lyrics:

"Baby, baby, baby!"

Uh-huh.

Pure gold!

Baby, baby, baby!

Justin Bieber..heartfelt down-to-earth concert in North Tonawanda (NY)!

Fans of Justin Bieber were in for quite a surprise when their sexy heartthrob not only turned up for a contest at the local school (Edward Town Middle School in Niagara Wheatfield) but ended up plucking up a guitar and performing four tunes on their humble stage!

The school spirit contest was hosted by Kiss 98.5 and raised a staggering 1.5 million pennies ($152,000.00) for the ocal Women and Children's hospital.

The winners successfully rustled up $17,000.00 of their own accord.

In a local broadcast, Justin gushed that he "feels like a regular kid."

And why not?

He is!

A damn site cuter, and a little more talented, perhaps.

By now, most fans - and the general public - are keen to the power of YouTube because of ambitious Justin.

The down-to-earth happy-go-lucky kid was the first to skyrocket to fame when he was literally discovered on the popular music site.

"I just put them up (videos) and it was fun to do and it got really big, really fast. I'm just glad I get to experience it."

His lastest musical offering is number one in the country.

The Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda was the hush-hush location for the concert.

All the details were kept top secret until Justin left the building.

Even the top snoops missed the scoop!

Good on you, Bieb!

Justin Bieber...@ DMV star handled with kid gloves! Joy riding an option...

The “Bieb” strolled into the DMV yesterday and marched right up to an open window with no need to stand in line with the common folks.

How did he pull that off?

A few weeks ago when I popped in to take care of some paperwork, I was forced to rub shoulders with a posse of ornery characters for about two hours before my number flashed up on the screen.

Pop Idols have a little more pull, eh?

One bystander was taken aback when he spied Bieber posing for about 10 - count ‘em - standard-size photos regulation-style.

Was the heartthrob handled with kid (no  pun intended ) gloves?

Actually, last time I had my photo snapped at the Santa Monica branch, the clerk offered to take a second shot at it.

So, I took her up on the offer.

But, unlike Bieber - suffering from People Magazine detox - two shots sufficed.

I used to model in my twenties to pay the rent, so posing is no problem for moi!

In case you were wondering, Bieb, no airbrushing (or doctoring of photos) is permitted.

That reminds me of a funny incident that went down with Zsa Zsa Gabor years ago.

When the former Ms. Hungary  was pulled over (for the infamous cop-slapping incident in Beverly Hills, I believe) the cops were amused by the fact that  Zsa Za had glued a flattering shot of herself on the face of her Driving License because she hated the one processed at the DMV.

A novel approach, but not exactly legal, I expect.

When Justin departed the environs of the Government agency there weren’t any papers in hand.

Do you suppose the coveted license will be mailed out by U.S. Post?

Or, did he fail his written exam?

If you recall, it took John Kennedy Jr. three shots at it to pass the State Bar Exam.

Cute, after all, does not always equate to smarts upstairs in the old noggin'.

I hope that Justin's mail box has security features - otherwise the precious passport to a cool ride, backseat making out, and weekend leisure hours tooling around under the hood - may be delayed.

Unless he engages in a little joy riding.

Ah, sweet bird of youth!

Michael Jackson...Dr.Murray to surrender to police! Admits injecting propofol...

Michael didn't need to die!

Dr. Conrad Murray ready to face music!

For weeks, there have been rumors that the LAPD is about to file charges against Dr. Conrad Murray, for administering a lethal dose of Propofol which ultimately caused pop icon Michael Jackson's untimely demise.

Although a representative from that  Law Enforcement Agency stressed this week that no documents have been  filed this week, the rumors have persisted that the troubled physician may have to face the music (no pun intended) soon.

The buzz has been heightened by the fact Dr. Murray travelledrecently  to Los Angeles on his own buck to await an arrest (which some surmise) is inevitable on charges of  involuntary manslaughter at a minimum.

Some feel that the charges (if and when imposed) may not be sufficient for the alleged crime.

For example, Michael Jackson's family believes involuntary manslaughter charges would be "just a slap on the wrist," attorney Brian Oxman said Wednesday.
"Dr. Conrad Murray displayed recklessness in dispensing powerful drugs to help Jackson sleep, warranting a second-degree murder charge. Involuntary manslaughter - the charge prosecutors reportedly plan to seek - carries a maximum jail sentence of just four years."

In a follow up summation, he inferred that Murray's conduct - in view of the facts - was downright criminal in the first degree.

"That is just a slap on the wrist, and a slap in the face, because Michael Jackson was someone who we knew was in danger of being brought to his knees, brought his death, by the use of these medications."

Although there is ample time for law enforcement to carefully dot all their "i's" and "t's"-  insiders close to the case are predicting - that an arrest is imminent.

To bring a manslaughter charge, prosecutors must show there was reckless action.

If a doctor is aware of a risk, and ignores proper protocol, then he or she may be held accountable.

Propofol is only supposed to be administered as an anesthesia by a professional in a medical setting (which was not the case with Michael Jackson).

And, a patient also requires constant monitoring, because the drug depresses breathing and heart rate while also lowering blood pressure.

A deadly combination of the two existed in respect to Jackson.
A cardiologist has maintained from the outset that nothing he gave the singer should have killed him.

Administering propofol to Jackson wasn't illegal, so prosecutors must show Murray deviated from accepted medical norms when he administered it in a non-medical setting while Jackson already had other sedatives in his system.

I was one of the first members of the media to report on the death of Michael.

That day, I happened to be on campus at UCLA, when his body was flown into the "emergency" medical center just across the street.

In fact, TMZ and I, were just about neck-and-neck in penning and posting the news alert on Twitter.

Dirty Pretty Things...Russell Young art exhibition in San Francisco! Stardust portraits of Marilyn & Marlon...

On Gallery row a splashy show of paintings titled Dirty Pretty Things screams out at tourists as they hustle to the theatre just down the strip to catch a production of Phedre.

The Russeck Gallery is featuring about a dozen-or-so unique portraits of - Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Marlon Brando - with a clever twist to them.

The fairly well-known images (some coined from Warhol's well of creativity) are sprinkled with a handful of glittering stardust.

On the promotional blurb, a particularly eye-catching shot of the "Some Like it Hot" star is labelled:

"Double Marilyn"

The whimsical portrait is 62 inches by 96 inches and was crafted on linen (a screen print) in acrylic paint, enamel, and diamond dust.

The artist - Russell Young - resides in Los Angeles and is well-known for his video adventures.

Twenty years ago the British photographer first lent his searing lens to celebrity culture.

The assignment was to capture pop idol George Michael in a publicity still for the album “Faith”.

Soon Russell became renowned for his stylish photographic studies of stand-out musicians such as  Morrissey, Springsteen, and Dylan.

In its heyday, Russell directed a hundred music videos for pop culure phenomenon,  MTV.

Russell started painting about ten years ago, but was shy about exhibiting his musings.

When Young unveiled - PIG PORTRAITS - the pieces  were immediately snapped up by collectors, friends, and business associates.

Today, the talented man is touted as an internationally acclaimed pop artist, who creates larger-than-life silkscreen paintings of images from history and pop culture (such as the ones currently on exhibit at the Russeck Gallery in San Francisco).

“My work is sort of soundtrack to my life, loves, experiences and influences. My method of working is to search, destroy and create. The images of this series have been collected from newspaper cuttings, e-bay, long correspondence with police departments throughout the world or even given by celebrities themselves. The idea to create "anti-celebrity" portraits was probably a reaction to my former career. However, they turned out to be even more beautiful and iconic. There is undeniably this attitude that is very real, in your face, a beauty that is hard to ignore. My art is a sort of soundtrack to my life, loves, experiences and influences. These would be my heroes that are missing from Art History.”

Die-hard fans are undoubtedly aware that Russell is married to actress Finola Hughes.

The loving couple have three children - Dylan, Cash and Sadie - who trot back and forth with their celebrated parents between homes situated  in New York and Los Angeles.

The dazzling paintings at the Russeck currently - which would heighten the mood in any tony dining-room in a NYC penthouse suite or Bel Air manse - don't come cheap.

Prices start @ $19,000.00 a pop!

Britney Spears...circus hits Vegas! Concerts September 26th thru 27th @ Mandalay Bay...

Circus bimbo babe returns to Big top!

Britney Spears and the final act of her Circus Tour splash down at Mandalay Bay this weekend much to the delight of die-hard fans!

Many are viewing the concert dates as a "comeback tour" for the once-troubled pop icon.

According to the Sun (London/U.K.):

"It is an all action, eye-melting pop spectacle which even leaves the crowd out of breath."

MTV.com - a tad critical (and stingy with rave reviews) on occasion - noted that Britney's "Circus" extravaganza was not only a sightr to behold, but the biggest show under one roof.

As for Pop Teen's  fashion get-up?

Ho-Hum!

Notwithstanding, I expect the lusty lass will play to sold-out houses.

See 'ya there!
