Michael Jackson...memories of Pop Star's Death & the "Wake" at UCLA!

After gulping down the last tasty morsel of lunch, I headed towards the Research Library on the campus at UCLA on June 25th.

Once I stepped outside the cafeteria, I immediately spied a helicopter buzzing overhead.

Two teenage girls dashed by and were chatting each other up excitedly.

I managed to overhear a snippet of the conversation.

"I hear that Michael Jackson is in that helicopter and that he overdosed," one of the pretty students exclaimed in shock.

Say what?

I was knocked out by the news.

At this juncture, I tore up the front steps of the library and plunked myself down at the nearest computer terminal just inside the building to the left of the main foyer.

I began to conduct a search on Jackson and possible alerts on his health.

Nada!

Were the major news outlets afraid that the rumors were all a hoax?

Or, were they simply in the dark about the overdose, I wondered.

Now, the frenzy at UCLA was reaching a fever pitch.

"Michael Jackson may be dead," one conjectured, as tears streamed down her cheeks.

Then - a few minutes later - one of my inside sources revealed the awful truth.

"Michael Jackson overdosed and was rushed to the hospital."

I immediately logged into "The Tattler" at the Blogger web site and proceeded to pen a post (which I summarily published a scant few seconds later).

On the heels of publishing the news alert, I proceeded to "tweet" a flash about the shocking news on Twitter.

Within minutes, the speculation about Jackson's untimely demise was streaking around the blogosphere at break-neck speed.

Then, I spied a tweet from TMZ, confirming that Jackson had - indeed - passed to spirit.

So - I posted an update on "The Tattler" - and followed up with another tweet.

After scanning a few news releases which were flooding in from major media outlets around the world, I packed up my briefcase and strolled outside.

I took a shortcut across campus and trotted down to the UCLA Medical Facility where dozens of reporters, paparazzi, and TV crews were now parking their vehicles haphazardly along both sides of the street and scrambling up the front steps of the hospital.

By now, hundreds of Jackson fans - lookie-loos, too - were swarming into the tiny square to take up a vigil for the much-loved Pop Star.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the hospital attempted to control the ensuing chaos, by updating the media every few minutes or so about the specifics as the events unfolded before our eyes.

At long last, it was also announced that a doctor in the employ of UCLA (and a member of the Jackson family) would be issuing statements shortly.

Which they did.

There was a stunned silence when it was confirmed that the beloved King of Pop was dead.

Then, something phenomenal happened.

Fans hoisted up portable CD players - which began to ground out the Pop Star's hits - as they began to dance and make merry with each other.

The once-sad gathering suddenly became a celebration of the "thriller's" life!

Essentially, the evening turned into a magical uplifting wake!

Dr. Conrad Murray...Jackson's Doctor must face trial for murder! Stripped of license!

After a week of testimony and strenuous court theatrics - a Judge presiding over a preliminary hearing pertaining to the mysterious death of Michael Jackson - has ruled that Dr. Conrad Murray must face manslaughter charges for his complicity in the sudden demise of the King of Pop.

When Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor handed down his verdict yesterday, he also stripped the doctor of his medical license, on the grounds that Murray was a threat to the community-at-large.

Specifically, the Jurist noted for the public record - that to allow Murray to continue to practice medicine - "would constitute an imminent danger to public safety."

During the course of the six-day preliminary hearing - a media frenzy prevailed outside on the courthouse steps - as a posse of witnesses (upwards of twenty in number) paraded through a gauntlet flanked with media hounds and into the courtroom to give testimony which kept rapt onlookers in the gallery on the edge of their seats.

Members of the Michael Jackson's family were in attendance throughout most of the hearing, but tended to remain silent during the course of the proceedings or when approached my overjealous reporters.

According to the Judge, evidence presented at hearing by prosecutors showed "a direct nexus in connection between the acts and omissions of Dr. Murray and the homicide in the case".

Subsequently, it was the order of the Superior Court that Dr. Conrad Muray stand trial on charges of manslaughter.

No doubt, the trial will turn into a media circus, too.

Michael Jackson...Western Style celebrated by Gene Autry Museum! Birthday tribute...

The Gene Autry Museum is sponsoring a Michael Jackson event on the anniversary of his birthday which takes a fun foray into how "The West was Worn" by the Pop Icon.

For example, the organizers at the Museum have focused on a few wardrobe items from the Pop star's eclectic collection of western outfits, and elected on the occasion to take an insightful peak at his fascination with the "look" and durability of the style.

The show opened August 17th and is installed in the imagination Gallery.

The space is a permanent Art Gallery dedicated to the imagery of the American West as it is depicted in popular culture.

Access to the installation is free with museum admission

Jeffrey Richardson, the Autry’s Associate Curator of Film and Popular Culture, hosted the opening event which was attended by Michael Jackson’s longtime costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush.

The two generous industry professionals loaned the outfits to the museum.

Karen Faye, Jackson's hair and make-up artist, made contributions as well.

This exhibition was actually in throes of the planning stages before Mr. Jackson passed to spirit last year.

“When the Autry approached us in 2009 about contributing to this exhibit, we discussed it with Michael [ Jackson ] and he was excited and humbled by the request,” said Bush.

"It is our honor and privilege to in any way help fulfill Michael’s vision and to be able to share with the world a glimpse into the artistic collaboration we were so fortunate to have had with Michael Jackson for almost 25 years and contribute to furthering his incredible legacy for generations to come,” added Tompkins.

“I am delighted to have this exhibit here representing Michael and what Michael meant to this country and so many generations of fans,” beamed Jackie Autry, Founding Chair and Lifetime Trustee of the Autry National Center .

The Michael Jackson outfits stand inside a specially designed three-sided case featuring two full-size mannequins.

The costumes include a blue rhinestone and fringe cowboy outfit worn on the television variety show - The Jacksons - on March 2, 1977; a red-and-black bib-front shirt designed by Tompkins and Bush (who were responsible for many of the Western influences found in Jackson’s clothing); a fedora hat; aviator sunglasses; and a pair of altered Levi 501 jeans (embellished by Tompkins and Bush) that Michael wore on November 17th (1996)  while promoting the HIStory World Tour in Sydney.

In the center of the display case is the iconic single white glove which Jackson wore on the March 2002 cover of Vibe magazine.

That was the last official occasion that Michael was professionally photographed wearing his signature  trademark accessory.

Michael Jackson requested that  everything made for him be of museum-quality.

"This needs to be able to be displayed in a museum. It has to be detailed," MJ  underscored to Tompkins.

“It didn’t matter what the cost or the process it took to create a piece, if it didn’t work when he danced, it came off,” said Bush.

Other items on display include a Western-style belt and buckle that Jackson wore on several occasion - most noticeably - for the “Beat It” single record cover and promotional materials.

In addition, the exhibit includes a pair of steel cowboy boots, designed by Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, that Jackson wore to the White House in April 1990.

An original sketch of the red-and-black bib-front shirt by Tompkins and Bush is also prominently displayed and includes Michael Jackson’s signature.

A video accompanying the display features Jackson ’s performance of the hit songs “Cisco Kid” and “I Shot the Sheriff” on a set decorated to look like a Western saloon.

The Jackson western tribute is actually surrounded by objects belonging to the Cisco Kid, the Lone Ranger, John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood  - which makes for a nice touch - at the Autry.

“The Autry explores the diversity and complexity of the American West, a place of hopes and dreams where myth and history intertwine,” said Richardson .

For this installation, the Museum staff explore how a pop icon embodied the tradition and style of the American West throughout his illustrious career.

Because Michael Jackson was larger than life and a global icon, the influence behind his style may never be measured exactly, but it is undeniably felt as this exhibit attests to.

At the dazzling Autry, fans have the rare opportunity to get a glimpse at how Michael took everyday Western styles and made them uniquely his own.

"In the world of style, Jackson ’s willingness to try different patterns and designs made him truly special, " note the curators.

'While many of Jackson ’s costume influences - from military jackets to aviator sunglasses - are readily apparent, his frequent use of Western wear has gone virtually unnoticed."

The Michael Jackson installation is made possible by the generosity of the costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush.

The Autry and Hot 92.3 FM Celebrate Michael Jackson’s Birthday on Sunday August 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The event will include Hot 92.3 FM DJ's spinning Michael Jackson music in the Museum Plaza, live dance performances and classes, zombies, birthday cake, and fun give-a-ways throughout the day.

Universal Studios...fire wrecks havoc! Jackson videos shot on back lot...

A devastating fire swept through the Universal Studios theme park last night (and beyond to the CityWalk) and wrecked havoc with every amusement within its path save for one (that of the mighty King Kong).

Props were tossed  this way 'n that before disintegrating into nothingness, fascades of fanciful buildings went up in flames in clouds of dark menacing smoke, as studio workers gazed on powerless and unable to  quelch the fire's insatiable hunger.

At one point, gas lines previously installed for a pyrotechnics display (shut down recently to make way for a spanking-new thrill attraction), fueled a wall of ferocious flames that quickly raged down a slope towards Toluca Lake.

For tourists, it was a great loss - for now - until the rebuilding starts up.

Management has already issued a press release in which they have already stated in so many words that "the show will go on" in spite of the firey setback.

Universal Studios has been the a "home" away from home to many actors over the years.

Any performer worth their weight, has probably toiled on a movie set on the backlot - for instance - sometimes 'til the crack of dawn (tired, hungry, and anxious for their own familiar digs and the comfy bed that awaited them).

Today, I noticed a full--age ad for the King Kong attraction in the LA Times.

If management is true to their word, then the legendary Ape should be open today - and henceforth - for tourist business.

I expect the macabre-minded will seize the opportunity to take in King Kong - and meander-off, too - to get an up-close gander at the destruction that the fire left in its wake.

Truth is stranger than fiction, alright!

Michael Jackson...fans celebrate life of Pop Star at impromptu wake at UCLA! (re-post)

By late afternoon, once the shocking news of Michael Jackson's death streaked across theInternet - and beyond into local businesses and the cozy homes of devoted fans - the skies here in picturesque Westwood were black with helicopters buzzing the frenzied masses below.

Meanwhile, on land routes that normally accessed the state-of-the-art UCLA hospital with ease, were now cordoned off for the most part as University security hand-directed the traffic flow in a bold-faced effort to avoid a potentially dangerous gridlock

Two dozen or so media outlets were inclined to screech to an abrupt halt in their vehicles and park along the median strip haphazardly - at which point - they bolted up to the front doors of the medical facility where the Pop Icon passed into spirit a few scant hours ago.

It was an impromptu media blitz, if ever there was one, and was reminiscent of the debacle that followed in the wake of Elvis' death decades ago.

Fans held brightly-colored signs etched with loving tributes - and on occasion - broke into a hypnotic chant.

"Michael! Michael! Michael."

Did they half expect their Crown Prince to rise up from the dead - and "moon walk" once last time - before taking a final bow forever?

One fan turned up the sound on his CD Player - and within minutes - bodies were writhing to the strains of the "Man in the Mirror".

My own included.

Catchy little ditty, that!

Did the emboldened hordes descend on Michael's final resting place because the image of the man - though distorted and misguided at times - still inspired them to recognize the power of song?

All of the media heavyweights were in attendance, too.

(MTV, CNN, NBC).

Each news team waited patiently (albeit a bit frustrated with the cards they had been dealt) for the doors of the temporary press room to swing open wide so they could surge forward - animals that they are - and stake a claim at a News Conference guaranteed to satisfy not only their audiences but the curious madding crowd to boot.

One reporter next to me in line shrugged.

"What can the doctors or Police Officials tell us that we don't already know?"

She answered her own question in a cynical tone of voice.

"Time of death. Who he is survived by. Yada Yada Yada."

On the contrary, I pointed out.

In this instant case, enquiring minds were probably pining for all the juicy tidbits.

Was the death accidental?

"No way," one reporter snapped back incredulous at the thought.

Was the unexpected death brought on by natural causes, his own hand, or due to drugs?

Also, there were nagging questions surrounding the hour of death.

Allegedly, Jackson died at approximately 1:21 pm this afternoon.

But, for some inexplicable reason, the legendary POP star was not pronounced dead until about two hours later at approximately 3:23 pm.

I know.

I was sitting at a computer terminal when MSNBC flashed a news alert to that effect.

Bottom line?

Expect the unexpected.

And, a lot of drama, Hollywood-style!

Michael Jackson...dead @ 50! (re post)

I popped the last morsel of a late lunch in my mouth, took a swig of the remains of my Coke, and headed out the door and across campus.

Suddenly, a helicopter buzzed overhead and made a beeline for the UCLA medical center, just down-a-ways a tad.

Excited students and members of the faculty gazed skyward as whispers filtered about the campus that inside Michael Jackson was struggling for his life.

According to a Los Angeles Times news-bite on the Internet minutes ago, Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Steve Ruda reported to the newspaper that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home,  so CPR was performed on the unconscious Pop Star.

Meanwhile, over at TMZ.com, Harvey Levin's team speculated that Mr. Jackson suffered cardiac arrest.

A family spokesperson noted that Mrs. Jackson is en route to the medical facility to be at her son's side.

Joe Jackson...brings wrongful death suit against Dr. Murray!

A year has passed and still no resolution to the Dr. Conrad Murray intrigues which triggered a criminal charge of involuntary manslaugther.

On the eve of the anniversary of Michael Jackson's mysterious demise, Joe Jackson has announced that he is bringing a wrongful death lawsuit against the doctor in the Civil Courts.

So, it appears that the Jackson's may conceivably find themselves in-and-out of court alot.

Over the years, I'v been involved in a couple of lawsuits (as a plaintiff), and I learned one great lesson in life.

To me, in my current frame of mind, lawsuits amount to lawyers and their clients chasing each around the courthouse until one of the parties runs out of paper (money!).

If compromise is all that is needed to end the dispute, I say, go for it!

On another front, a frenzy has erupted once again regarding intriguing aspects of the pending manslaughter case.

Night-time talk show hosts (Larry King, for example) are pouring over the events of that fateful day, and are once again  inclined to cry "conspiracy" and "murder".

At this point it is difficult to sort out fact and myth.

The one  thing that Americans do know, is that Michael Jackson died way before his time, and that someone in the dark shadows must be held accountable.

That's justice.

Dr. Conrad Murray...court rules in favor of doc!

California Judge Michael Pastor denied a request by authorities to revoke the medical license of Michael Jackson's former physician Dr. Conrad Murray citing "a lack of authority".

Consequently, Murray will continue to practice medicine in the State of California despite protests from die-hard fans of the Pop Icon who met his untimely death due to a lethal does of propofol that Murray administered without proper protocol.

The scandal-ridden doctor is currently facing a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter for his alleged complicity in the mysterious death of the Pop Icon last year.

The Judge also noted for the record that were no special circumstances that warranted the court reconsidering bail (set at $75,000.00).

Curiously, the court's ruling failed to illicit much of a response in Dr. Murray, who sat motionless when it was uttered up.

Dr. Conrad Murray...beleaugered Doc faces license suspension! LA Court date...

This past week, a Las Vegas court issued a directive, that Dr. Conrad Murray be barred from administering anesthetics in Nevada where he practices medicine.

Murray is currently facing criminal charges in the death of Pop Star Michael Jackson for alleging injecting a lethal dose of propofol and not following proper protocol.

Tomorrow, a hearing has been set in a Los Angeles court to determine if there are sufficient grounds to suspend Dr. Murray's Medical License altogether.

In that event, Murray will be prevented from practising medicine in California in the future.

Liza Minnelli...concert tour in June! New album fan-pleaser...

Shelter from the storm!

I was flipping the channel earlier, when I spied Liza Minnelli - looking gorgeous darling! - having a heart-to-heart on the Joy Behar show.

Ms. Minnelli is not only intelligent, charismatic, and articulate - but downright witty!

One of her endearing qualities is her ability to poke fun at herself.

On the subject of "him" - her last husband - she reacted by rolling  her eyes as if to say:

"What was I thinking?"

When the  union failed (!) she had a few choice words for good friend Michael Jackson.

"Why didn't you stop me," Liza wailed.

"I thought you were happy."

The talkative TV twosome both agreed that while the marriage may have not worked out,  at least the wedding was spectacular and graced with a galaxy of dazzling superstars such as Elizabeth Taylor.

Liza confided in Behar that when she asked David how he paid for the extravagant trot to the altar, he replied without batting-an-eye.

"I didn't."

Uh-huh.

Guest fenagled the funds from Liza's treasure chest without her being any-the-wiser!

Liza is a busy gal, as usual.

In June, the seasoned stage trooper,  kicks-of a series of high-energy concerts around the country.

The multi-award-winning Liza also boasts an  album due out soon  which is titled:  "Confessions".

Dr.Conrad Murray...butt of jokes after saving airplane passenger!

News anchors and TV pundits snickered and poked fun at Jackson's former doctor today.

Conrad Murray, if you recall, is currently on trial for manslaughter in respect to the untimely death of the late great Michael Jackson.

What was Murray thinking - many wondered aloud - as the hilarious breaking news filtered in.

Apparently, Dr. Murray was a passenger on a plane, when a woman required immediate emergency attention..

When the good doctor jumped  into the fray to offer up his  services, he was obviously hoping to put her at ease by noting that one of his clients was a famous celebrity.

"I used to be Michael Jackson's doctor," he beamed.

Not exactly the best reference, eh?

Did the woman drop dead of a heart attack on the spot?

Elizabeth Taylor...say it ain't so! You'll end up dead like Michael Jackson...

News outlets are firing off hectic alerts around the blogosphere that Elizabeth Taylor is preparing to march down the aisle once again.

According to reliable sources (!) - the many-times-betrothed last great star of Hollywood - is engaged to Jason Winters (Michael Jackson's former business manager).

Egads!

Has dizzy Ms. Lizzy lost her marbles?

Taylor's agent - Dick Guttman - would not confirm or deny the bizarre engagement to KTLA reporters.

In spite of being non-commital, though, he was inclined to note for the record that it was apparently no secret the two have been "this-close".

"It's no secret that they've been together forever and are in love, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they were engaged. Right now they are keeping it between them," US Magazine reported without batting an eye.

Richard Burton must be turning over in his grave.

Personally, I am quite shocked by the disturbing turn-of-events.

I'm Ms. Taylor's No. 1 fan, after all.

Dr. Conrad Murray...hid incriminating evidence! Conflicting allegations rev up intrigues...

The plot sickens!

According to sources, Dr. Conrad Murray halted CPR on ailing Pop Star - Michael Jackson - that fateful day last June, in order to scoop up incriminating evidence (such as dirty syringes and empty vials once-containing dangerous controlled substances) that may have established habitual drug abuse to prying eyes.

The flames have been fanned by an eye-witness to the intriguing events.

Allegedly, when Alberto Alvarez (a logistic's director) was summoned to Michael Jackson's side on the eve of his death, the pop singer was lying in his bed with an IV attached to his leg, mouth open wide, and no apparent sign of life.

Murray continued to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation as Alvarez continued with CPR.

Their frenzied life-saving efforts proved to be fruitless - at which point - Michael Jackson was declared dead.

On the heels of that somber pronouncement, Murray allegedly dashed out of the hospital facility, to carry out a bizarre task.

Murray insisted that he needed to pick up some cream from Jacksons upscale rental home in the Valley - "so people wouldn't find out about it" - Alvarez asserted to investigators in recent days.

But, Dr. Murray's lawyer was quick to pooh-pooh the notion that his client tried to hide drugs.

In fact, the attorney - Ed Chernoff - accused Alvarez of giving different accounts on two separate occasions when interrogated by Police investigators in charge of the case.

"He didn't say any of those things, then two months later, all of a sudden, the doc is throwing bottles into the bag," Chernoff sniffed to reporters.

"Alvarez's statement is inconsistent with his previous statement. We will deal with that at trial."

The Los Angeles coroner ruled Jackson's death was a homicide triggered by an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives which were administered to Jackson (by Dr. Murray) to alleviate a bout of insomnia which was troubling the Pop Star.

Propofol is usually restricted to medical facilities, and generally administered by a qualified professional in a strict controlled setting, with constant monitoring to prevent potential mishap.

In a nutshell, propofol depresses breathing and heart rate while lowering blood pressure, a potentially deadly combination when not properly administered by a health care professional.

The prosecutor's office has alleged - by virtue of an involuntary manslaughter charge - that Dr. Murray's failure (negligence?) to abide by proper protocol resulted in Michael Jackson's untimely demise.

Now it appears that more serious charges may be lurking on the horizon!

Michael Jackson...Conrad Murray's lawyers gearing up for mistrial! Syringe may be auctioned...

The scuttlebutt in legal circles is that the lawyers for Conrad Murray are laying the groundwork for a mistrial in the event there is a guilty verdict against their client.

Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in respect to the administration of controlled substances which were the result of Michael Jackson's death last year.

Allegedly, prosecutors have been withholding pertinent documents and information relevant to the upcoming trial proceedings.

During the "discovery" process, legal counsel on both sides are required to share their paperwork so that each party can ably prepare their stragedy, court arguments, line of defense, and what-have-you.

In a court of law, there are not supposed to be any last-minute "surprises", or conduct which prevents a fair hearing on the issues.

Dramatic cliff-hangers are rare in a court of law and tend to be of the strictly fictional kind found on low-brow serials on the old boob tube.

The kind of bill-of-fare offered up by the likes of Judge Judy around the soap hour are geared towards ratings and and bon-bon-chewing armchair jurists sitting in judgment at home throughout the heartland.

When the stakes are high, though, lawyers can be quite fierce about protecting their work product.

And, they'll fight tooth-and-nail to protect the fruits of their labour and the rights of their client.

Of course, there are many ways to surmount the discloure problem in the event an attorney is not acting above board or ethically.

At the request of either party, the Judge may impose sanctions (penalties) to deter such reprehensible conduct in the future.

And, either party (including the bench-warmer) may request disciplinary action by the State Bar.

An  attorney is also within his rights to file a "motion" to compel opposition counsel  (even an IN PRO PER litigant)) to comply with requests for copies of evidence, complete witness lists, factual information, and so forth and so on.

Meanwhile, on another front, it was reported by one high-profile blogger this morning, that a syringe used by the doctor to adminster drugs on Jackson was never destroyed according to normal procedure and may be offered up for auction in the future.

Dr. Conrad Murray...formally charged! Mob scene at courthouse...

"It's not enough," Jermaine Jackson hissed to reporters in disgust as he exited a limo purring at the curb and strode towards the courthouse to attend Dr. Conrad Murray's arraignment on charges of involuntary manslaughter.

After an exhaustive investigaton by the LAPD which stretched over a few harried months, word filtered out from annonymous sources at the end of last week, that a charge of involuntary manslaughter was imminent.

As I reported in posts in recent  days, law enforcement officials are alleging that Murray failed to meet proper protocol when he administered a  lethal dose of a controlled substance which resulted in the Pop Star's untimely death.

Although a deal was hammered out last week - wherein Murray would be able to turn himself in to the LAPD without the necessity of being handcuffed or subjected to a perf walk and/or a frenzied public spectacle - the deal fell apart when Jackson family members and media types complained that Jackson's doctor was being given special treatment.

Murray's attorneys alleged there were death threats levelled against the doctor which warranted special handling.

The angry mob who shouted at Murray as he walked the gang plank into the courthouse to appear before the Judge signalled the allegations might be true.

If I am not mistaken, Murray's facial expression throughout that fast trot, hinted at just how frightened he was about that possibility.

In addition to Jermaine, Michael Jackson's parents were in tow, and anxious to sit ringside during the course of the legal proceeding.

As expected, Murray pled not guilty this afternoon at the LAX airport Courthouse.

The Judge ordered Murray to turn in his passport and refrain from any travel outside of the U.S. until the case was resolved in the courts.

In addition, His Honor informed the doctor that the court was placing restrictions on his role as a physician.

In sum, Murray is barred from administering or writing a prescription for propofol, when he returns to active practice at his medical offices in Texas and Los Angeles.

Dr. Murray previously acknowledged giving Mr. Jackson the drug shortly before the singer was found unconscious on June 25th of last year.

The coroner determined that Mr. Jackson had died from acute propofol intoxication in combination with a handful of other potent sedatives.

Legal analysts are predicting that the trial will be long, focus on complex legal  issues, and drag out a lot of dirty laundry that will titillate the Nation in coming months.

I reported earlier today (and two days ago) that Dr. Conrad Murray flew into LA LA LAND on his own hard-earned buck ready to surrender to the LAPD on a charge (in some degree) of murder.

I noted in those posts that there was an outcry from family members who raged that Michael Jackson's physician was, in essence, rustling up special treatment by virtue of his lawyer's slick behind-the-scenes maneuvering.

In particular, Jackson's sister was quite vocal about the fact that the LAPD had no qualms hand-cuffing Michael when he was arrested on alleged child molestation charges (in the midst of a demeaning public spectacle).

Consequently she wondered aloud to all within earshot - why Dr. Murray was  not facing the same routine arrest - like any other citizen being charged and prosecuted for a crime.

In all the reports I have sifted through, I haven't been able to turn up one good reason why Murray should be entitled to turn himself  in to the LAPD,  in the man prescribed  by his lawyers.

If you recall, Jackson's physican has been accused of administering a controlled substance in a lethal dose without following appropriate protocol.

Red-faced reps on both sides have agreed on one thing for sure:

Today, sources have confirmed that Dr. Murray will turn up at the Police Station this afternoon to hand himself in to authorities with lawyers by his side (Friday February 5th).

For several weeks rumors have floated out of the inner sanctum at the Law Enforcement Agency that charges of involuntary manslaugher - at a minimum - were about to brought against the troubled doctor who was last seen with Michael just shortly before his death.

Meanwhile, some controversy arose in recent days, over the  the manner of arrest proposed.

Lawyers for the doctor were anxious to have their client turn himself in without the necessity of a formal arrest which would have included handcuffing amidst a swirl of paparazzi (in what would have amounted to a media circus) charging in for candid shots.

On the other side of the coin, concerned individuals complained that Dr. Conrad Murray - in a self-surrender scenario - would appear to be getting special treatment.

Even heiress Paris Hilton was once forced to endure the demeaning process while the world looked on.

Defence lawyers and law enforcement officials apparently reached an accord behind the scenes, and so, the good doctor is slated to appear before a Judge for a brief hearing at 1:30 p.m.

Sources close to the court proceedings have conjectured that the hearing will be video-taped.

Law enforcement officials previously revealed that prosecutors planned to charge the doctor with involuntary manslaughter on the grounds that he allegedly gave Michael  the powerful anaesthetic to help him sleep without following proper protocol (which ultimately led to his death).

Michael Jackson's family have lamented that an involuntary manslaughter charge amounts to just a slap on the wrist.

For weeks, there have been rumors that the LAPD is about to file charges against Dr. Conrad Murray, for administering a lethal dose of Propofol which ultimately caused pop icon Michael Jackson's untimely demise.

Although a representative from that  Law Enforcement Agency stressed this week that no documents have been  filed this week, the rumors have persisted that the troubled physician may have to face the music (no pun intended) soon.

The buzz has been heightened by the fact Dr. Murray travelledrecently  to Los Angeles on his own buck to await an arrest (which some surmise) is inevitable on charges of  involuntary manslaughter at a minimum.

Some feel that the charges (if and when imposed) may not be sufficient for the alleged crime.

For example, Michael Jackson's family believes involuntary manslaughter charges would be "just a slap on the wrist," attorney Brian Oxman said Wednesday.
"Dr. Conrad Murray displayed recklessness in dispensing powerful drugs to help Jackson sleep, warranting a second-degree murder charge. Involuntary manslaughter - the charge prosecutors reportedly plan to seek - carries a maximum jail sentence of just four years."

In a follow up summation, he inferred that Murray's conduct - in view of the facts - was downright criminal in the first degree.

"That is just a slap on the wrist, and a slap in the face, because Michael Jackson was someone who we knew was in danger of being brought to his knees, brought his death, by the use of these medications."

Although there is ample time for law enforcement to carefully dot all their "i's" and "t's"-  insiders close to the case are predicting - that an arrest is imminent.

To bring a manslaughter charge, prosecutors must show there was reckless action.

If a doctor is aware of a risk, and ignores proper protocol, then he or she may be held accountable.

Propofol is only supposed to be administered as an anesthesia by a professional in a medical setting (which was not the case with Michael Jackson).

And, a patient also requires constant monitoring, because the drug depresses breathing and heart rate while also lowering blood pressure.

A deadly combination of the two existed in respect to Jackson.
A cardiologist has maintained from the outset that nothing he gave the singer should have killed him.

Administering propofol to Jackson wasn't illegal, so prosecutors must show Murray deviated from accepted medical norms when he administered it in a non-medical setting while Jackson already had other sedatives in his system.

I was one of the first members of the media to report on the death of Michael.

That day, I happened to be on campus at UCLA, when his body was flown into the "emergency" medical center just across the street.

In fact, TMZ and I, were just about neck-and-neck in penning and posting the news alert on Twitter.

Michael Jackson...OPUS gift idea for die-hard fans! Stunning comprehensive tome...

In the wake of Michael Jackson's death there have been many Michael Jackson tributes -  including a handful in book form chronicling the late pop icon's life & times in the glare of the spotlight since he first sauntered onstage a naive young performer with the Jackson 5 decades ago

Just recently, a thick tome aptly titled  - "The Official Michael Jackson Opus" - has hit the shelves at a handful of upscale bookstores around the country.

The book carries some weight - 38 pounds of it  in fact - and is comprised of 404 pages of thrilling publicity stills sure to appeal to the most discerning die-hard Jackson fan.

According to the publishers, eighty-percent of the images have never been released before and or rarely seen the light of day.

The slick eye-catching publication is priced at a whopping $249.00.

Photo editor Deborah Wald pronounced Opus as a loving tribute to Jackson's  legacy and work.

Opus highlights include four  images of the superstar musician - copies of actual hand-painted portraits by artist Nate Giorgio - dashed off two weeks prior to Michael's death.

One chapter is dedicated to Michael's fashion sense and throws a spotlight on his innate sense of style which was world-renowned.

Producer Ken Kragen also contributed a copy of an original lyric sheet from "We Are the World to be included  in the book (the original was signed by all the artists at the recording session on that auspicious occasion).

Apparently, the hit single was inspired by Jane Goodall (primatolgist) who urged that Michael write a song when he expressed an  interest to "heal the world" on the occasion of her visit to Neverland ranch.

To historians and loving fans - a bevy of poignant shots of Michael taken during the course of his storied long-and-winding career - are probably of the most interest.

One photo captures an 11-year old Jackson signing an autograph in front of the Rolling Stones office in 1971 complete with Afro and dressed in Jackson 5 stage get-up.

Old habits die hard, but Liz shows for funeral early out of respect!

If you channel-surfed last night, the pickings were slim - especially when it came to coverage of the funeral service for Michael Jackson - who was finally laid to rest in a sumptuous Forest Lawn setting fit for an Egyptian Pharaoh in Glendale (CA).

Only a handful of media outlets were permitted near the outer  perimeter of the gravesite  - in what one guest referred to as a "serene" service - so there was a lot of straining going on on the frenzied sidelines as the paparazzi scrambled to capture coveted images expected to zip around the globe at the close of the solemn occasion.

Elizabeth Taylor - famously-known for arriving fashionably-late for high-profile events over the years - surprised the media when her limo purred up an hour-and-a-half  before the proceedings were to commence.

In fact, all the key players - Jackson's parents, Michael's children - showed up on schedule.

In contrast, the hangers-on (who cruised through the gates in expensive limos sporting ubiquitous black suits and spritely-colored red ties) were late - thus stalling the ceremony - about  ninety minutes or so.

The lucky persistent few - who scanned the airwaves like moi Thursday eve in search of a poignant moment or two - undoubtedly caught the intimate close-up shots of the family seated on white folding-chairs just prior to the commencement of the pricey service.

The humble seating arrangement was in stark contrast to the opulence all around.

Guests included child star Macaulay Culkin, athlete Barry Bonds, Director Kenny Ortega, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Marlon Brando's son Niko.

A no-show by Diana Ross allegedly caused a few tongues to wag.

A memorable Gladys Knight performance also inspired a heartfelt message on twitter.

"She sang her little heart out", Reverend Sharp enthused in a tweet later on after the guests paid their last respects and headed homeward bound (unless they attended the swank after-party, of course, where a close-knit inner circle of friends and family were expected to celebrate Michael's life).

At the gates, meanwile, die-hard fans chanted:

"Michael! Michae! Michael!".

Earlier in the day, Police reported that a handful of overjealous music-lovers attempted to jump the fence to get an up-close gander at the King of Pop's burial site.

According to a representative of a Glendale Law Enforcement Agency, the individuals were ejected without incident.

A blimp-like inflated light affixed alongside a boom camera (strategically-placed in front of the expensive marble mausoleum) caused a bit of speculation amoung the mourners and media alike.

Some hinted that the footage was being captured for inclusion in the upcoming Michael Jackson documentary "This is it".

Jackson now rests in peace amidst the likes of such luminaries as Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, and funnyman W.C. Fields.

But, Forest Lawn Officials were quick to point out that after the burial, Jackson's vault will remain off-limits.

A portion of a mausoleum that displays "The Last Supper Window" is the closest they'll ever get to the Pop Icon's last resting place apparently.

Interested parties may  attend one of several ten-minute presentations held at that site regularly every day of the year.
