Working-out...exercising Vegas-Style! Stay in shape while on vacation!

A stop-over in the desert oasis for some fun and sun doesn't mean daily work-outs have to be put on hold.

In fact, with all the wining and dining going down, it may be more important to focus on a health regimen to avoid tipping the scales while on vacation.

For starters, check with the Concierge at your Hotel to determine if there is a gym or work-out spa on the premises.

If there is, schedule an hour-or-so each day to tone, burn calories, and build muscle.

In the event your lodgings do not have a facility, then snatch up the yellow pages in the lobby, and scour the directory for a gym nearby.  Many major chains have day passes at reasonable rates for out-of-towners.

In the alternative, swim laps if there is a pool.

Swimming is the best all-round exercise for the whole body that there is.

When you're ready for some "alone" time, there are a handful of exercises you can perform in your hotel suite with a minimum amount of fuss, which are quite effective in re-shaping the human form.

For example, push-ups off the end of the bed (legs up) are great for the upper chest, shoulders, and biceps.

Crunches and sit-ups (curl feet under the end of the bed to stabilize your position on the floor if necessary) are sure to trim the love handles, dudes (as well as develop a nifty six-pack you'll be proud to show off poolside).

Jumping Jacks, knee bends, and leg raises off the carpet floor, will round out the work-out (with a focus on leg muscles, butt, and stomach).

By the way, if you're worrying that trotting down the strip at the crack-of-dawn may be an embarrassing proposition into the unknown, think again!

Just the other day, I couldn't help but notice that Las Vegas Boulevard is starting to be a very trendy popular spot to jog for young-and-old alike.

Slather on sun block, though.

And, don't forget to sport something trendy, eh?

Who know, you may meet Mr. Right.

As Roy Rogers once said:

Happy trails to you!

Dining Out For Life...fundraiser for A.I.D.S. on April 28th! Subaru sponsored!

If you're planning to head out and dine around town on April 28th, why not participate in an annual event - "Dining Out for Life" - which is co-sponsored by Subaru?

Participating restaurants - over 3500 in number around the United States - are donating a generous percentage of each meal served on that day to an AIDS service organization.

Last year more than 250,000 participants helped raise nearly $4 million dollars!

In exchange for their financial support restaurants are listed in a city wide marketing campaign in an effort to increase customer traffic.

Dining Out For Life® was created by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia in 1991.

Since then, dozens of high profile personalities have stepped up to promote the worthy cause.

For example, Ted Allen - the host of Food Network’s hit series "Chopped" - has been quite vocal about the project for good reason.

"It s more important than ever to keep HIV/AIDS on the front burner. Too many people think it's a minor problem solved by swallowing a few pills. It isn't. Second, while supporting local restaurants, chefs, and restaurant workers, Dining Out for Life donations help those right in the same community. Finally, the event gives everybody a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the cause in such a simple way," he noted in a recent press release."

Although much about the disease has changed over the past 30 years, the fact remains that an estimated 1.2 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States, nearly half without appropriate healthcare.

With one in five people not even realizing they are infected, it is estimated that 60,000 new HIV infections will occur in the U.S. this year, with the majority under age 29.

Now is the time for caring individuals to step up-to-bat!

“This country is trying desperately to recover from the recession, and the people who used to donate or volunteer at food banks and soup kitchens now are struggling to feed their own families. It is more important than ever for those of us who are able, to donate time and resources.”

Lindsay Lohan...cooking therapeutic! Trial looms on horizon!

Lindsay on path to recovery!

On a rare occasion, troubled starlet - Lindsay Lohan - threw open her doors and invited a film crew in to shoot an exclusive interview with "Extra" (Tabloid News Show).

In recent days, her handlers have run interference with the press - especially when it came to one-on-one interviews - in view of pending legal matters before the court.

In the comfy environs of her home near the beach, the "Mean Girls" star let it slip - for starters - that she loves to cook.

"I find it so therapeutic," she fessed up matter-of-fact.

The stylish sexpot doesn't appear to be packing on any extra flab, in spite of tasting the dishes, during the course of whipping 'em up.

In fact, in contrast to drug-addled bad-boy - Charlie Sheen - Ms. Lohan looked fresh-faced and relaxed as she spoke candidly before the camera.

Lohan, about half-way through the tell-all, was quick to underscore that she's anxious to get back to meaningful work.

Of course, that tough proposition will depend on the power-players in Tinsel Town (is she an insurance risk?) and a Judge presiding over an upcoming trial which looms on the horizon in respect to a felony charge of grand theft.

Ms. Lohan is quite adamant that she intends to "face the music" - and a take a shot at a played-out court-room drama - rather than accept a plea bargain which includes a stint at the local jail.

The ball may be in the recovering addict's court, though.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that her accusers may have sold an incriminating piece of evidence in the case (a video which allegedly caught Lohan in the act of lifting a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery valued at $2500.00) which may have harmed their credibility and tainted the prospects of a guilty verdict at trial.

There may be some wiggle room for Ms. Lohan, after all!

News at 11!

Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital...a threat to patients! Dr. Sassan Davoudi a Quack! Hazardous facilities! Wrong diagnosis!

A coat of paint may cover a multitude of sins!

If you're thinking about heading over to the "Emergency" Department at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital at 1300 N. Vermont Street in Hollywood, you may want to reconsider the trek if you value your health and well-being.

Patients have complained about hazardous facilities, incompetent "quacks" such as Dr. Sassan Davoudi and Dr. Joseph M. Nussbaum, bumbling Nurses who bruise patients because of sloppy handi-work and a devil-may-care attitude, and dishonest misrepresentations about the Hospital's "mission" to provide quality care.

For instance, when one ailing individual limped into the lobby of emergency complaining of severe chest pains, they were forced to cool their heels for over two 1/2 hours before any hospital personnel made any professional effort to hustle them back to an examination "cubby-hole" for an EKG or timely X-ray to determine the severity of the problem.

In contrast - hospitals in the general vicinity in Los Angeles - usually give a green light and special priority to potential heart-attack victims (for obvious reasons).

When an individual is finally admitted after long delays at the run-down facility (and an excessive amount of paperwork has been shoved in their pain-ridden faces to fill out) they are subjected to a wild hair-raising ride in a wheelchair outside - sometimes on an icy cold eve at an ungodly hour - to a make-shift X-ray examination room which has been set up slap-dab in the parking lot behind a rusty chain-link fence in a cramped trailer.

Once on the threshold, the inexperienced Nurse proceeds to precariously hoist the patient up onto a crudely-crafted ramp at the door of the rickety shelter, where they are rolled inside for a chest and/or body scan.

Until Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital erects a structure (indoors) that meets the building codes required by California's State Medical Board (and City Officials) patients will continue to be vulnerable to the potentially dangerous hazards.

Talk about negligence and a wanton disregard for patient safety!

In fact, one nurse confessed that one bleak night, he broke a toe after tripping over debris scattered on the pathway to the poorly-constructed outdoors lab.

Elsewhere on the premises, after a few vials of blood were helter-skelter drawn from another patient (which resulted in unsightly bruises on their arms), they were solemnly informed that they were suffering from diabetes.

When the charge noted there had never been any history of the ailment in their family - or even a hint of symptoms either - the inexperienced hospital worker simply shrugged and uttered under their breath in a hushed tone:

"Maybe your blood sugar is just high tonight for some reason."

At this juncture, the diagnosis was deleted from the patent's medical record, with little ado.

Say what?

It was evident to the patient, at this point, that the technician was unqualified for their post!

But, the shoddy unprofessional conduct did not end there, not by a long shot!

One patient languished in "Emergency" for ten hours or so, before the Hospital staff finally wheeled him up to a room outfitted for two.

The sorry individual was suddenly aghast to find themselves dropped on a bed and left to reckon with an obviously mentally-deranged patient who screamed out incoherently at the top of his lungs every few minutes or so.

Then, the physician on duty - Dr. Sassan Davoudi (a bizarre-looking man with bushy eyebrows and eyes that blinked every second-or-two like a spooky old owl) - stumbled in looking for all-the-world like some dishevelled bum.

To make matters worse, the physician was unable to speak fluent English, or effectively communicate to the startled patient in a calm professional manner.

On one occasion, when Davoudi opened up his yap, he barked out orders to the patient in a disturbing demeaning fashion.

"Stand up," he demanded.

When the patient attempted to carry out the demand, he lost his balance, and fell plunk-down onto the bed unmade bed.

In spite of the obvious, the doctor bellowed out more orders, with little regard for the well-being of the patient grasping for oxygen on the bed.

In the midst of attempting to walk across the hospital room - as instructed - the Doctor suddenly waved the sick patient off.

"You're okay. Get dressed. Go home," he growled at the shocked patient, before he strolled out the door never to be seen again!

Then, the situation turned from bad to worse.

For example, when a male nurse briskly waltzed in with discharge papers (and a curt demand that he exit the hospital room immediately), the disoriented patient informed the employee that he was too weak to comply with the request.

At this point, on the heels of a call to Financial Services, a rude African American woman by the name of Gabriela Duran-Lopez (with no noticeable manners or sense of professionalism) strode into the room and warned the patient that if they did not get dressed - and exit - they'd be charged $2,500.00 for an overnight stay.

"Cash," she barked at the startled patient.

Shocking behaviour - especially when you consider the "Mission" statement the Hospital Director has set forth in the patient manual bedside - at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital.

It reads as follows:

"For more than 80 years, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center has been helping the Hollywood community and surrounding areas, serving your medical needs (!) and those of your loved ones.

Our medical center strives to distinguish itself as a leading health care provider, recognized for providing quality (!), innovative (you betcha!) care in a professional (!) and compassionate (!) manner.

What a load of bullsh**, eh?

But, the shocking conduct of staff at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital didn't end after the demand for cash was made.

Unable to comply with the request - the patient humbly asked that he be permitted to stay over - until friends (or family) could arrange to pick him up bright-and-early the next morning.

When Ms. Duran-Lopez noted that she would call Social Services for a quick resolution to the problem, the nastiness escalated, go figure!

Angered by what she perceived as a refusal to leave the premises willingly, a nasty butch-looking woman - by the name of Clarissa (from Social Services) - stormed into the room armed with threats.

"If you don't get dressed and leave immediately, security will escort you to the door," she growled angrily.

Calls to Supervisor - Linda Kaye - were left unreturned!

Outrageous unprofessional behaviour when you consider the Social Services blurb in the patient guide which stated as follows:

Social Services

The Social Services Department assists all patients with emotional, social, and economic problems related to their healthcare (!).

The Department's mission is to provide consultation to family members, caregivers, and significant others to ensure ongoing support vital to a patient's well being (!!!).

Special focus and attention are given to patient and families who are at high risk for problems of adjustments, safety, economic hardship, life-threatening illness, and other severe psychological stresses related to health condition.

Several reasons a patient may need Social Services include:

*Acute grieving, depression, and anxiety
*Suicidal/Homicidal ideation, gravely disabled
*No known family or support system
*Victims of abuse, physical/emotional/sexual neglect/violence by caretakers
*Family behaviour adversely affecting patient welfare and care (!!!)
*Older adults (70+) with multiple physical needs and psychological needs
*homelessness (!!!)
*Substance abuse

Bottom line?

Lies! Lies! Lies!

It's all a public relations ploy, dude.

Coincidentally, I just read a report in the San Francisco Chronicle this past week, that the early discharge of patients is becoming a major problem - enough so, in fact - that the State Medical Board may step in to rectify the growing problem.

For example, it was announced that any Hospital that releases a patient prematurely - who is later forced to return to emergency for additional care - would be levied a penalty.

I am in accord!

In fact, in view of the breaches of professional ethics at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital (formerly known as the Queen of Angels), I expect their facility will be at the top of the list!

In the final analysis, it is also evident from the aforementioned facts, that the Nurses at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital are negligent, unprofessional, and derelict in their duty when it comes to fulfilling their "mission".

In fact, their staff are a menace to the community.

Avoid this medical facility like the plague!

Dr. Ning Tang...incompetent unprofessional MD! Threat to patients & medical community!

There's nothing worse than a silly barely wet behind-the-ears (thirty-something) incompetent female doctor - with an ugly misplaced ego - acting like she has a big swinging dick between her legs as she traipses around hospital environs dispensing medical advice sure to cause irreparable harm to her patients.

Such is the case with a loser by the name of Ning Tang (M.D.) - a demented general practitioner - who is under the wild delusion that she is God's gift to the medical profession.

For starters, Ms. Tang has a lousy bedside manner.

Frigid is, as frigid does, but - in her instant case - an ice Queen demeanour is a detriment to the well-being of  individuals in her precarious charge.

If it weren't for misguided referrals from staff at the  UCSF Emergency department, it is doubtful she'd have a practice.

On the contrary,  she'd be wrapped in a straight jacket  in an insane asylum.

When a doctor - over the best interests of their client, lashes out in self-defense (and acts cruelly and deceitfully with the specific aim of gaining the upperhand to compensate for their insecurity) - it's time the State Medical Board issued a slap on the wrist and revoked the medical license to practice.

Or, have the professional standards sunk that low in recent days, as Obamacare looms on the horizon?

In the instance of Ms. Tang, obviously management at UCSF was desperate, and was forced to scrape the barrel to meet their quota.

Ms.Tang wasn't hired on because of skill, intelligence, or a keen ability to smooth over troubled waters with her patients in their darkest hour of need.

If there is plague to avoid in the community, it is the one with a plaque on the flimsy hospital door which reads:

Ning Tang M.D.

M.D. stands for malpractising dimwit (a threat to civilized society).

Flu shot...packs a whallop! Protection against Swine Flu & influenza!

For a moment ot two, I thought I was suffering from an allergic reaction to this year's flu shot, a few hours after the mysterious protective vacinne swept through my body.

Overnight, I began to experience discomfort in the vicinity of the needle injection - for instance - which continued far into the next morning.

At one point, I found myself suffering severe pain in the upper arm - in spite of the fact the Nurse promised - it would amount to a mere prick in the outer skin.

The rest of the day my arm was sore, makng it difficult to maneuver without discomfor, during the course of my tourist adventures here-and-there 'round town.

That evening - in my Hotel room (after I rolled up my sleeve to get a close-up gander at the injection site) - it  didn't escape my attention that part of the  limb was swollen and hard and sore to the touch.

Then, when I awoke the next morning, the pain was gone!

Officials have attempted to avoid long lines for the Swine Flu vaccines this year - which frustrated the screaming multitudes last fall - by being prepared for the rush this fall.

A record flu shot supply is on local shelves right now and ready for the teaming masses.

In fact, drugstores are offering up flu shots in their back-to-school sales gimmicks.

The vaccine includes an all-in-one shot that protects against the Swine Flu and two other kinds of Influenza expected to be prevalent in the fall of 2010 and winter of 2011.

A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone except babies (six months or younger).

Although not exactly painless - such as the case with moi - the protection is a good idea at a time when viral outbreaks - of a myriad of nasty varieties - are plaguing the Nation.

Not always a painless prick!

Denny's...value meal priced @ $4.00!

Occasionally, I get an urge for an old-fashioned breakfast consisting of - eggs, pancakes, bacon - to start the day off right.

But, in Las Vegas, you’ll be hard-pressed to zero in on a local eatery that not only serves up a mouth-watering filling meal at an affordable price, but cooked to delicious perfection as well.

Since I was advised to cut back on salt, and be more selective in my diet choices for the sake of my overall health, I generally tend to by-pass Denny’s which is famous for its grand slam which would normally cost a hungry dude about $5.50 tops (unless he  went hog-wild with selection of tasty extras a-la-carte).

What the heck!

Once I spotted Denny’s logo screaming out at me on Vegas Boulevard, I roared in to make a P-I-G of myself yesterday at the crack of dawn.

What a pleasant surprise.

Denny’s is now offering up a value meal - consisting of eggs (how would you like 'em?), bacon (or sausage), pancakes (or toast) - for the princely sum of 4 bucks!

Gosh, did that hit the spot.

And, if you cut back on the syrup and butter and seasoning, you might just stroll out of there without suffering a heart attack from all the heart-clogging cholesterol and fat.

Pass on the coffee - a diuretic, by the way - and slurp down a hydrating ice-cold glass of water instead.

Your skin will be blemish free, because of it.

Century City Doctors Hospital...Bankruptcy filing! Destruction of patient records...

If you were once a patient at Century City Doctors Hospital (LLC) in Los Angeles, and you haven't received a notice from a Chapter 7 Trustee, it may be wise to sit up and take notice.

Yes, the "boutique" hospital - once owned by a posse of local physicians - has filed for Bankruptcy protection.

Richard K. Diamond, Trustee, has noticed patients by U.S. Post that all records will be destroyed without further notice if the concerned parties do not claim the documents by December 31st (2010).

If you were a patient, but no notice was received from Court officials, a request may be made for patient records by filling out the appropriate form and mailing it to:

Ashton Kutcher...dethroned as King of Tweets! Audience goes wild on Ellen set...

The audience reaction when he stepped on stage - wild screams and applause that pierced the ears - that it caused Kutcher to quip:

"It would be great to have sex and have someone stand up and cheer like that," he joked.

"That does't happen now," Ellen quizzed.

"No, it doesn't," he almost mumbled.

Ellen chirped that she wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of folks from her audience would be willing to do that..

Kutcher sported a fluffy cut (Justin Bieber eat your heart out), exuded a boyish charm, and was oozing with sex appeal.

At a recent chi chi function, Kutcher wailed that he was put off by Sarah Palin.

For starters, he denounced her book as unprofound. arah Palin's.

Allegedly, the former Ice Queen,  talked non-stop about the military and the "little people" which was a turn-off to Kutcher.

Although a fan of PRICE (who performed at the same high-profile event), he also expressed his frustration over the fact the Pop Idol rarely ever performed his hits - like Purple Rain - preferring to jam with the band for two (yawn) hours.

Ellen agreed with Demi's better-half.

"They don't like to sing the hits that we love them for," Ellen astutely noted.

Mr. Kutcher looked "sharp" in a tasteful tailored jacket, paired with dress slacks, thin black tie, and pristine white shirt with correctly knotted at the collar.

"So, you're King of the tweets," marvelled Ellen amid applause from the audience.

"I got dethroned," Ashton uttered up with a tinge of frustration in his voice.

Ellen probed a little further but came up empty-handed.

"I'd rather not talk about it."

So, they didn't.

Bill O'Reilly...Factor host hails Tom Hanks a pin head! Pundits don't escape wrath...

Pin Head slight of day!

The other evening Fox's O'Reilly was quite adamant that Tom Hanks was a pin head.

Gosh, I've been wising folks up about the fact that life with the "Big" star is not a box of chocolates, whenever the puffy-looking dork takes the stage.

Frankly, Bill O'Reilly's jibes are more searing when he zeroes in on pundits he invites on the show to spout off about subjects they have failed to research or know little about.

O'Reilly doesn't take any prisoners in that regard.

Nope, without hesitation, he goes in for the kill.

For example, when an alleged female "analyst" appeared to discuss the pro's and con's of Barack Obama's Health Reform plan the other night, she goofed big time.

And, O'Reilly was there to jump on the gaffe, much to her chagrin.

When asked what were "three positive aspects" of the Health reform plan currently on tap, the twit stridently asserted that everyone would be forced to select a health plan.

What a ludicrous notion.

"It won't fly," O'Reilly stated matter-of-fact in so many words.

Oh it will, it will, she insisted as she arrogantly tossed back her head.

"It won't," he quipped, "because we have a U.S. Constitution."

The dizzy broad still didn't get it (and argued the point further to her detriment).

O'Reilly tried to explain that the government (even insurance companies) couldn't force people to buy a health plan (or participate in one).

In a nutshell, the whole concept was un-American, after all.

To save face, she quickly grappled with the dilemma, then offered up an off-point alternative.

"Well, they can't be denied insurance based on pre-exisitng medical conditions, then."

Typical of a handful of these big-mouthed "know-it-alls" - the dragon lady - was clueless.

The issues she was struggling to address, amounted to "oranges" and "apples", for heaven's sake.

Other guests faired just as poorly under the glare of O'Reilly's insightful spotlight.

Say what you will about O'Reilly, but the man has ba**s.

Tthat's why he's the King of the heap when it comes to getting to the nitty-gritty in the hardball realm of  dirty politics.

The Sports Club...LA fitness club has great ambience! Deceptive business practices...

One day I flung open the mail box and a slick high-quality brochure dropped into my open hand.

Upon close inspection, I determined that it was an invitation to try out a local gym in Beverly Hills.

On the surface, the offer tucked inside appeared to be quite a generous one.

At first glance, I gathered that the Sports Club (with locations in major cities around the U.S.) was urging me to take advantage of 1 free month at the gym.

Most work-out joints - like Gold's Gym & 24-hour fitness - tend to hand-out 7-day try-outs max.

I suppose I should have been suspicious when I realized later that because the envelope wasn't posted until approximately the 11th of February, I would only have the opportunity to take the club up on their offer for the remainder of the month (17 days).

Was the failure to pop the invite in the mail  'til the middle of the month deliberate or just an oversight?

Next to having a root canal, signing up for a "gym membership" tends to be high on my list of aggravations to avoid, if possible.

The reason is quite simple.

Once you're in the door - even before you have savored a free stint at the facility - high-pressure salesmen(sharks) will pester potential "suckers" until they cave in (or run straight-away to the nearest exit).

Sure enough, that's what went down, when I strode in the door and met up with  a company rep by the name of Ashton.

After taking me on a tour of the luxurious upscale facility, he gestured for me to plunk myself down and discuss the options (there were three to choose from).

Since I have dealt with many car salesmen over the years, I dug my heels in, and let him rattle off his speel.

Once the delivery was over, I noted that I was an adult (who didn't rush into things), and that I would prefer to try out the facility (per the offer) and reflect on whether to join or not.

At this juncture, Ashford informed me that I couldn't have the free month without buying a membership first.

Huh?

With a hand gesture, and a bit of misspeak, he stabbed a finger at one line in the middle of the page of the invitation.

"With an active membership. It says right here," he swiftly noted in a stern authoratative voice.

At this point, I was taken aback to learn that in addition to the month-to-month membership fees, each member was required to pay dues every four weeks as well.

Gosh, you'd think I was purchasing a Condo, for heaven's sake.

Over the past twenty years or so, I have joined a myriad of gyms - and not once - have I  encountered this kind of monthly/dues fee structure.

Later, when I scrutinized the invite up close with my reading glasses firmly affixed to my nose, I also discovered that  "Ashford" misrepresented the disclaimer for the offer which amounted to a deceptive business practice.

Although he asserted the phrase stated "with an active membership" - in truth - it actually read something else entirely different.

"Call the club today to arrange for a membership," it read in much smaller print.

There was no disclosure (contrary to what Ashford said)  that a waiver of the "initiation fee" required that monthly dues (under one of the three plans) be purchased up-front first to receive the "special" offer.

Notwithstanding, who the heck wants to pay an initiation fee AND monthly dues each month?

What a crock!

When I attempted to discreetly bow out, Ashford was unrelenting.

"Okay. I'll let you have one free week to try out the Sports Club."

So, I took him up on it.

Even though his offer was pretty straightforward, he still  tried to screw me out of a day.

For example, when I strode in for the pep talk and to tour the club, it was February 13th.

After he presented me with a temporary membership card, I noticed later in the locker room, that he inserted February 19th as the expiry date.

I thought that 13 and 7 totalled 20.

 Doesn't it?

The first day I checked in tot he Sports Club to take oadvantage of the free pass, the counter person noticed the error right away.

We both shook our heads!

Although it is doubtful I'll join the club for the foregoing reasons - and because it is just too pricey in my estimation - I have to admit that the Sports Club is the finest gym I have run across in the Los Angeles area to date.

The decor was luxurious and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, for starters.

All the equipment was state of the art, kept up, and easy to use.

Also, the club boasts a spacious sundeck, junior Olympic swimming pool, basketball courts, laundry service, and tastefully-decorated locker rooms.

After working out each day, I was inclined to relax in the luxurious steam room, too.

In addition to the work out (weight)  rooms, there was a yoga center and a massage parlour situated in a subdued atmosphere out-of-the-way off the main thoroughfare.

Forget about hauling  a gym bag or a lock or deodorant to the Sports club.

The mensroom has an ample supply of razors, hair gel, body soap (and free towel service).

Select a locker that is available, plunk your clothes inside, then create your own password which releases the lock when you check out.

No tacky locks to fiddle with or coins to pop in.

There is also an entertainment center where guests (on the higher-end pay plan) can watch TV, snack on tasty treats, you name it.

While you're in the club, send out your day's wardrobe for cleaning and pressing, too.

Want to entertain friends for dinner?

Just make a reservation at Oliver's restaurant which fronts on Wilshire Blvd in tony Beverly Hills (in the golden triangle) a hop-and-a-skip away.

Maybe I'll reconsider if I win the lottery or a rich uncle dies!

Tony Beverly Hills!

Acinetobacter...Drug Resistant bug alarms medical researchers! Patients in hospitals at risk...

Infection Control and Hospital Epidermiology - a medical Journal - posted a study on their website this week warning about a drug-resistant bug that may put Hospital patients at risk.

The intruder - known as Acinetobacter - causes serious ailments such as pneumonia and bloodstream infections to flourish (and over time has managed to become resistant to a bevy of drugs normally used to treat it).

For example, there has been a 300 %  increase in resistance to a last resort drug, known by the name of imipenem.

The data was collection from over three-hundred hospitals during a seven-year period (1999-2006).

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which financed the study, theorized that only tighter infection-control meausres and new antibiotics could halt the resistance - and ultimately - the disease itself.

In another study earlier this year, Robert A. Bonomo - an M.D. at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center - noted that DNA study may be the key.

"By screening for particular DNA sequences associated with resistance to specific antibiotics, physicians might be able to understand why resistance emerges so quickly and prescribe more effective antibiotics that will be better suited for treating an infection,"
