PRINCE...in Concert @ Forum tonight! Rock Pop Star still dazzles fans!

Tonight, the celebrated rock Icon - PRINCE - will take the stage live! in Inglewood!

As usual - the 'Purple One" - will no doubt dazzle the fans with his charismatic stage persona, distinctive vocal powers, and masterful guitar musings!

The well-respected Grammy Award-Winner continues to book into concert halls - last minute - to sell-out the houses while many of his contemporaries languish in the shadows.

The legend prevails for good reason.

The gifted artist is a creative force to reckon with!

Prince was born - Prince Rogers Nelson - on June 7th in 1958.

For a brief eccentric period in his illustrious music career, the pop rocker was known as the "Artist Formerly Known as Prince".

Guess he got tired of being a symbol.

Prince has been quite prolific over the years, too, with 40 singles to his credit.

In addition to penning tunes for himself, Prince has unselfishly promoted musical artists such as Sheila E., Carmen Electra, The Time, and Vanity.
Hits have also been crafted for the likes of Chaka Khan, The Bangles, and Sinead O'Connor.

The man's talent has not gone unnoticed by the industry either.

Prince boasts 7 Grammy Awards.

In addition, he has won not only a Golden Globe - but, also - a coveted Academy Award.

Unlike some artists who toil for years without recognition, Prince has already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004).

Cher, eat your heart out!

For what it's worth, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Prince No. 28 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of all time!

Meanwhile, Prince plays on!

Zsa Zsa Gabor...daughter cries foul over fake Prince's treatment of ailing star!

Francesca in happier days!

For a while now, it's been common knowledge that Zsa Zsa Gabor's daughter - Francesca (sired by Conrad Hilton) - has been cast out (banned from visiting her mother at the upscale Bel Air Estate) ever since the aging sexpot was inclined to tie-the-knot with Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt (a fake European Royal).

In recent days, Francesca - a lesser-beauty who can't hold a candle to the other blond bombshells in family circles (a black sheep in the genes department, too, eh?) - has been crying foul to friends and business associates over Anhalt's alleged misconduct.

In particular, Zsa Zsa's lone child has been scandalized by the fact that the "Prince" may have neglected her mother - so much so - that his careless caretaker duties have negatively impacted Gabor's overall health and well-being.

For starters, Francesca has wondered aloud about the celebrated star's emergency visits to the hospital, among other things.

"Why was it necessary to have her leg amputated," she lamented far-and-wide to all within earshot in the aftermath.

Zsa Zsa's estranged daughter has also criticized von Anhalt for neglecting her mother's appearance on a handful of occasions he's allowed the usually-bed-ridden Superstar to saunter out-of-doors.

"My mother always wore make-up. And, her hair was always kept up," she spouted off angrily in so many words on a TV Tabloid news show this past week.

In recent weeks, pitiful publicity shots have depicted Zsa Zsa as a tired old woman, who appears to be on death's bed as a result.

Indeed!

How difficult is it to apply a dollop of lipstick or affix a well-coiffed wig to a once-pretty head?

Personally, I was quite disturbed when it was revealed that Zsa Zsa's husband allegedly gave the go-ahead for the actress's leg to be amputated, without securing her approval (or at least informing her) first.

For a former beauty - who took pride in her appearance - it must have been quite a blow to arrive home from the hospital sans a leg.

Of course, I am not familiar with all the pertinent details, so I can't pass judgment in the final analysis.

After all, if Ms. Gabor was unconscious - and a decision was needed in an emergency situation - then the action on the part of the Prince was understandable.

Don't 'ya think?

Especially, in the event he was granted the power of attorney!

But, the tongues are still wagging, nonetheless.

Recent plans to put the tony estate on the market must have set off warning bells in poor little Francesca's corner of the world I expect.

Will she be cut out of the will, too?

Prince of Persia...Jake Gyllenhaal hunk material! Ben Kingsley stellar acting...

I was under the impression that "Prince of Persia" was a historical saga.

Boy, was I wrong.

Pleasantly so!

In the first fast-paced scenes, the audience is swept up into the intriguing Persian culture - in part due - to an enchanting musical score and the broad lush strokes the skilled director (a Bruckheimer Production) has used to paint his larger-than-life canvas.

The cinematography is exquisite - breathtaking in fact - but I was more drawn to the sets which captured the distinctive arcitectural style of the era.

In a nutshell, the tale is about a tribe habitating in the wilds of Persia, who suddenly feel threatened by a neighbouring clan, a confidant alleges are crafting weapons for an ally.

A decision is made to attack the sacred Temple where their  High Priests practise a mysterious religion rife with a lot of hokus-pokus and ritual.

Once the city is stormed, one of the Princes - who just earned the title of "Lion" for his ferocious staying-power in the battle - is gifted with a unique ornate dagger with a glass case brimming with sand crystals.

As it turns out, the knife has mystical powers.

Now there is a ongoing struggle by to snatch the coveted religious artifact - with the ultimate aim of using its potent power - to rule the world.

Along the way - a cast of conniving diabolical characters - rev up the screen.

Throughout, the theatre-goer is treated to two-dozen or so spectacular fight scenes that  keep 'em on the edge of their plush seats at the theatre.

Unfortunately, the film is a tad long - so about thirty minutes prior to the screen fading to black - filmgoers tend to be squirm in their seats and glance down at their watches.

Will this movie ever end?

Nothwithstanding, I expect fans of the genre (and others) will gobble up every precious moment of this romantic action-adventure drama into summer.

Talk about a hybrid!

Of course, Jack Gyllenhaal's muscled bod - and puppy dog eyes - are worth the price of admission.

Jake, that  accent was killing me!

As usual, Ben Kingsley turned  in a stellar performance that was seamless and perfect in every way.

The supporting players also bolster the "Prince of Persia" up in a myriad of entertaining ways (making the feature truly an ensemble piece).

The plot is sheer fantasy.

But, the newly-released flick, is a delicious escape that hits the spot, for filmgoers seeking a respite for it all (if only for a couple of hours).

3 Stars!

Ashton Kutcher...dethroned as King of Tweets! Audience goes wild on Ellen set...

The audience reaction when he stepped on stage - wild screams and applause that pierced the ears - that it caused Kutcher to quip:

"It would be great to have sex and have someone stand up and cheer like that," he joked.

"That does't happen now," Ellen quizzed.

"No, it doesn't," he almost mumbled.

Ellen chirped that she wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of folks from her audience would be willing to do that..

Kutcher sported a fluffy cut (Justin Bieber eat your heart out), exuded a boyish charm, and was oozing with sex appeal.

At a recent chi chi function, Kutcher wailed that he was put off by Sarah Palin.

For starters, he denounced her book as unprofound. arah Palin's.

Allegedly, the former Ice Queen,  talked non-stop about the military and the "little people" which was a turn-off to Kutcher.

Although a fan of PRICE (who performed at the same high-profile event), he also expressed his frustration over the fact the Pop Idol rarely ever performed his hits - like Purple Rain - preferring to jam with the band for two (yawn) hours.

Ellen agreed with Demi's better-half.

"They don't like to sing the hits that we love them for," Ellen astutely noted.

Mr. Kutcher looked "sharp" in a tasteful tailored jacket, paired with dress slacks, thin black tie, and pristine white shirt with correctly knotted at the collar.

"So, you're King of the tweets," marvelled Ellen amid applause from the audience.

"I got dethroned," Ashton uttered up with a tinge of frustration in his voice.

Ellen probed a little further but came up empty-handed.

"I'd rather not talk about it."

So, they didn't.

Prince of Persia...Jake Gyllenhaal macho promo shot!

He looked hot as a studly cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain".

And now, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to take the country by storm in a swarthy muscular persona, as the Prince of Persia.

But, honestly folks, what gives with that promotional poster for the action-adventure flick?

Did the popular heart-throb actually pump up a tad - almost-burn to a crisp under a sizzling mid-say sun to rustle up those dark brooding looks - or is it all just a clever "smoke-and-mirrors" paste-up courtesy of the publicity department at the studio designed to sell tickets?

Inquiring minds (and die-hard fans of the hunk) want to know!

Cartier...San Francisco gem exhibit dazzles! Legion of Honor...

Legion of Honor

Elizabeth Taylor fond of Cartier sparklers!

For those who love expensive high-quality gems and magnificent (vulgar) baubbles - and exhibition at the Legion of Honor - may appeal to the senses.

The two-hundred dazzling pieces on display through April 18th were crafted by the undisputed "King" of jewellery, Jacques Cartier.

For a man, a "tank" wristwatch with the designer's John Henry etched on it, is the ultimate style statement.

Pricey, though.

Cartier first rose to exalted status during the Belle Epoque.

Today, glamorous (and just plain wealthy) women still reach for the ultimate in chic elegance.

Louis Francois Cartier (the son of a powder horn maker) founded Cartier in 1847.

When Maitre Picard passed to spirit that year, Cartier took over his well-known jewellery shop located at 31 Rue Montorgueil in Paris.

Four years later Napoleon III came to power (1851).

Through the Countess Nieuwerkerke and Princess Mathilde (cousins of the diminuitive dictator) Cartier was able to become a supplier to the court.

In 1859, he sold his first silver tea service to the Empress Eugenie.

At this juncture, Cartier relocated into rented quarters on the Boulevard des Italiens.

Cartier’s collection had a light and airy touch - in contrast to clunky overly-designed jewellery - of the era.

In fact Cartier's simple elegant designs - not only caught on with the rich and powerful - but would end up influencing the entire industry for decades to come.

In 1874, Louis Alfred (Cartier's son) took control of the business.

Alfred proceeded to stridently expand the family business considerably, especially in respect to the selection of watches, which Louis had only dabbled in previously.

Under Alfred's astute business accumen the name and reputation of Cartier spread beyond Paris.

Alfred brought his three sons - Louis, Pierre and Jacques -  into the business in 1898 and changed the company name to Alfred Cartier & fils.

The different styles and strengths of the three brothers complemented each other - so much so - that the business flourished in leaps and bounds.

Louis took control of the Paris branch and moved it to Rue de la Paix in 1899.

Meanwhile, Jacques - who ran the London branch - traveled to the Persian Gulf in search of the finest pearls and gems.

The opening of the London branch was a timely one.

Shortly after the doors were opened, Queen Alexandra of England ordered 27 tiaras in honor of the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902.
Two years later, Edward appointed Cartier a royal warrant as supplier to the Royal Court of England.

By the end of the decade, Cartier was named  royal supplier to the royal house of Spain, Portugal, Russia, Greece, Serbia, Belgium, Romania, Albania, Monaco (and the former French royal House of Orleans).

The Prince of Wales now affectionately referred to Cartier as the “Jeweller to Kings" and "King to Jewellers”.

Pierre ran the New York branch which was established in 1909.

He became a legendary figure in jewellery circles when he sold the famous Hope diamond for a staggering sum to a collector.

The Rockefellers, Whitneys, Astors, and Vanderbilts - to name a few - became devoted clients.

In 1917, Pierre moved to its current location at 653 Fifth Avenue.

Pierre Cartier acquired the mansion in exchange for $100 and a double-stranded natural pearl necklace valued at one million dollars.

In 1907, Cartier signed a contract with Edmond Jaeger to supply the movements for Cartier watches exclusively.

By now, Cartier (with branches in London, New York and Saint Petersburg) was becoming the world’s most successful watch company.

They introduced the Biagnoire and Tortue models (still crafted today).

In the early 1920s, Cartier and Edward Jaeger formed a joint company called Jaeger-LeCoultre, to produce movements solely for Cartier.

However, Cartier continued to use movements from Vacheron, Constantin, Audemars-Piguet, Movado and LeCoultre.

It was during this period that Cartier started adding a stamped four digit reference number on the underside of his watches.

Today, collectors refuse to accept a Cartier as original without these identifying  numbers.

The dazzling collection on exhibit at the Legion of Honor features an eclectic mix of offerings - some once (or currently) owned - by the likes of megastar Elizabeth Taylor and the former Princess Grace of Monaco.

Catch it if you can!

Ellen DeGeneres...Prince! George Clooney! Drew Barrymore! Knock-out week for guests!

Wow!

Ellen's e-mail announcing her line-up of guests this week (July 6th/10th) sure packed a wallop.

Monday, Patrick Dempsey is expected to touch down on her couch and discuss his new cologne PLUS!

According to that latent homo cutie on TMZ ('ya know! the one with the long silky surfer dude "do" who's got a thing about dudes showing their "business" in public) Dempsey has one of the best a**es in Tinseltown.

Backed up with a video clip, folks!

Tomorrow, Ellen Generous (my nickname for the hostess-with-the mostest who gives away sweet tweets - um - treats on her top-rated show daily) will chat up perky cutie Drew Barrymore who sticks up for "Gay Moms".

Check out my video of Drew who turned out to support a repeal on Prop 8 in WeHo:

On Wednesday (July 8th) PRINCE will prance onto the stage and no doubt bring down the Ellen house when he breaks a personal-best recluse record for rarely making appearances on lowly talk shows.

That little charmer, Ellen, probably soft-soaped him outta the wings by gifting him with silky purple undershorts (she has a thing about guys underthings, 'ya know?) a matching "T" and feather boa, I expect.

Lindsay Lohan will cry the blues - same show! - about being alone.
Potential hook-ups should snatch up a ticket and make a pass when she saunters into the mostly-lesbo audience with Ellen to do what has become the quirky comedienne's ritual dance (the one thing that manages to always irk Howard Stern when nothing else does).

Georgie Baby (Clooney, who else?) will saunter in on Thursday all suave and debonair.
The handsome hunk has something in common with me, 'ya know?

Figured you would make that boner - get your mind out of the gutter folks!

Actually, "G" and I share the same birthday - May 6th - along with Rudolph Valentino (no wonder I always fantasize about being a silent film star) Willie Maes (I couldn't get a ball across the home plate for spit) Sigmund Freud (wet dreams are all about sex, noted old Sig, and I couldn't agree more) and Orson Welles.

Say, has anyone noticed the subtle blooper in the celebrated film - Citizen Kane - which has been touted as the "perfect" movie offering of all time?

Betcha can't!

Finally (thank God it's Friday) Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) will grace the Ellen stage with his studly self and cause a few straight gals (and dudes) in the footlights to swoon a tad.

For kicks, maybe Ellen & Hugh will perform an old Peter Allen tune?

Stay tuned!
