Ryan Gosling...Canadian not part of exclusive club? Lighten up! Have a Molson's, eh?

Heartthrob Ryan Gosling whined about the trappings of fame in a recent interview.

As Joe Pesci would say:

"Okay! Okay! Okay!"

Yes, it can be a pain in the toned butt to deal with glare of the spotlight now-and-then!

For example, it takes some skill (and careful maneuvering) to trot down the red carpet (in tandem with the electrically-charged flow without causing static either way), muster up a phony Hollywood-style smile (oh-so pepsodent white!), kiss ass to all the show-biz tabloid reporters jockeying for your undivided attention (so they'll keep all your dark secrets in the closet), and finally, last - but not least -court the frenzied paparazzi so they'll photograph your better side.

But, when it comes to becoming a member of an exclusive club (which boasts the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Martin Short, and Pamela Anderson) - the Canadians - the sexy actor shies away.

"The other day I was walking down the street and this lady was like - 'Ryan Canada' - and gestured to herself. She was like (so Valley boy, Ryan!) - 'I'm from Canada' - and I was like (there 'ya go again!) - 'Oh, OK. Me too.' It's like (!) if you don't recognize the Canadian in them, they're upset. It's like we're all Highlanders, you know? We're all just supposed to know when we're in the same vicinity."

Like, heh, Ryan!

Like, don't you have CAN-DAR, not even a smidgen?

Uh-huh!

I'm a Canuck, too!

Couldn't you tell by the red maple leafs decorating my boxer shorts, or by the Molson's brewski in my sweaty little mutt?

The BURP must have been a dead give-a-way, eh?

"Eh" - now that was quite a clue - eh?

Well, if you don't want to be a member of the exclusive Molson's Canadian Club - then fine - Jim Dandy!

As Columbo would say:

"Oh, there's just one more thing."

Proud Canucks usually get great reviews from journalists in the Beaver Press Club - of which - I am one.

At this juncture - how does it look - for your latest flick "Crazy, Stupid, Love"?

We'll see!

A review will follow.

Today, tourists and locals alike will have a chance to catch a glimpse of a television production in action, when key scenes are shot at the Golden Nugget and on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas for an upcoming episode.

And, for the enterprising fan or two - who are eagle-eyed and nimble on their feet - there may be a window of opportunity to snatch up a coveted autograph or snap a publicity still with one of the stars of the weekly series hit.

Good Luck.

And, as they say in show biz, break a leg!

John Travolta...indiscreet gay flirting! Kelly Preston ignores snub at trendy diner!

John led around by end of his co**!

According to a gossip-monger at one of the Gay Tabloid Rags, John Travolta's hunger for the sexy companionship of handsome young studs has escalated to the point where he's become shockingly indiscreet in front of his dotting wife and strangers in public.

The mind-boggling tell-all alleges that - at a trendy watering hole in LA LA LAND recently - the former "Saturday Night Fever" star made a blatant pass at a male waiter under the altruistic guise of wanting to "open doors" for the kid who is apparently trying to break into the biz.

Well, on the surface, it appears that the old "casting couch" is alive and well in Hollywood!

Before exiting the chic eatery - and as his wife twiddled-her-thumbs non-plussed across-the-table - John tried to fanagle the telephone number for the up-and-coming (wrong choice of words?) actor.

"Maybe I can help you get a start in film," the aging Lothario (who hangs out in steam rooms at a local gym where he lets it all hang-out) slyly gushed in so many words.

It was pretty much a given that John's overt pass was transparent - enough so - that the other diners supping nearly nearby within earshot (and sight) were aghast.

Couldn't the star have waited 'til Kelly dashed off to the restroom - or headed to the Valet - before lusting after the dude?

In contrast, I crossed paths with a famous actor a few years ago, who exhibited a lot more class (and sensitivity towards his date's feelings) in that regard.

I was in the parking lot at the back of the Globe Theatre one night in full costume - practising my lines before I dashed on stage in Act II - when the star of one of Aaron Spelling's Night-time Soaps trotted out to his parked car with a girlfriend in tow after dining at Hugo's restaurant next door in WeHo.

When our eyes met, it was obvious we were both smitten, but the hottie just gave a wink and moved along (his gal pal none-the-wiser).

After he drove off, I fantasized a bit about what may-have-been.

Then - lo & behold - he returned out-of-the-blue a short while later alone!

"I forgot my credit card," he grinned, as he hopped out of his pricey auto and dashed into the restaurant to allegedly retrieve it.

A few moments later, when he strolled back into the lot, he made a pass right-off-the-bat.

The impromptu clinch was as thrilling (and wild) as a romantic scene in a screwball comedy feature!

Without a moment's hesitation, we hopped into the front seat of my car excitedly, and started to fool around (as best we could under the passionate circumstances).

You see - I was hindered by the fact - I was attired in stockings and lace-up-boots to the knee.

Uh-huh!

I was performing in a period piece - EDWARD III (at the Globe Theatre) - and in full costume!

And, to make matters more maddening, I was required to trot on stage in about ten minutes flat for  my first entrance of the evening.

Needless to say, it was the quickie of all time, even if I do say so myself.

Although the handsome actor (Timothy Patrick Murphy) passed away a few years ago - memories of our brief encounter - often loom large in my dusty old memories (and still make my heart go pitter-patter).

Heh, John, you need to be a little more creative, eh?

Otherwise, the tongues will be wagging all over the town - you'll be on the front page of the trashy Nataional
Enquirer - and Kelly will be filing for divorce.

And, you thought Charlie Sheen was on a slippery slope to hell!

Final parting advice?

Stop being led around by your co**, John, it may get 'ya into serious trouble one of these days.

Amen!

Randy Quaid...arrest warrant issued! Squatter's rights unfounded...

Trouble appears to be following Randy Quaid (and his wife) around these days.

Once again, the B-list actor is in hot water with the courts.

What do the Orientals say?

May you live in interesting times!

If you recall, a scant few months ago  an arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Quaid, when he allegedly skipped out on a bill at a luxury Hotel and left red-faced managers holding the proverbial bag.

Quaid must have coughed up the dough for the room service tab and back-rent due, though, because he was free as a bird once again.

The shocking word out of Hollywood now?

Quaid may be broke and homeless.

Recently, the talented actor - with a half-a-dozen-or-so box offices successes under his belt - was caught (and charged) with illegally camping out in a guest house of a property he once owned.

After-the-fact, a Judge issued an arrest warrant for Quaid when he failed to appear before the bench, to answer to the allegations.

Too embarrassed to show your face, Randy?

Maybe his sensible brother, Dennis, should step in and offer some support.

Or, does he follow biblical wisdom?

I am not my brothers's keeper.

Amen!

Randy, if you're strapped for cash - or need assistance - contact the Screen Actors Guild (or AFTRA).

Maybe the actor's fund can offer up some relief temporarily during your financial crunch and legal snafu.

Worth looking into, anyway!

Prince of Persia...Jake Gyllenhaal macho promo shot!

He looked hot as a studly cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain".

And now, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to take the country by storm in a swarthy muscular persona, as the Prince of Persia.

But, honestly folks, what gives with that promotional poster for the action-adventure flick?

Did the popular heart-throb actually pump up a tad - almost-burn to a crisp under a sizzling mid-say sun to rustle up those dark brooding looks - or is it all just a clever "smoke-and-mirrors" paste-up courtesy of the publicity department at the studio designed to sell tickets?

Inquiring minds (and die-hard fans of the hunk) want to know!

Richard Chamberlain...back on mainland in Hollywood! Tribute @ Aero Theatre!

Dr. Kildare is back on the mainland and ready to take your pulse - or send it soaring!

Handsome matinee idol, Richard Chamberlain, played the part of the good (sexy) doctor on the old boob tube a few decades ago - if you recall - when I was a mere lad not even on the fringes of show business.

Ultimately, the part was a bit of fluff, but turned out to be the vehicle that launched the talented actor  to superstar status.

Chamberlain - who has been residing in his permanent digs in exotic Hawaii for the past twenty years - has taken up residence once again in his West Hollywood apartment.

The likeable actor with the infectious grin is also receving a career tribute this weekend at the Aero Theatre.

Peter Weir's thriller - "The Last Wave" - is scheduled to screen on Friday (the plot that twists turn on an aboriginal murder).

In addition, Playwright/director - Neil LaBute - will discuss Chamberlain's career one-on-one on Saturday afternoon.

Richard's fans will have the opportunity to catch two additional films that day - Petulia (1968) - and "The Music Lovers" (1970).

According to the profile, Chamberlain is also slated to hit the boards live in a stage production in the near future.

Unforunately, the publicity still didn't do Mr. Chamberlain any justice.

Personally, I'd string the dude - who snapped the pic - up by the ba**s!

The photographer set the popular star against a basic plain backdrop, in the center of portrait-style frame, staring straight into camera with arms crossed in a boring fashion at the waist.

Talk about unflattering!

Mr. Chamberlain looked all skin and-bones-and like death warmed-over.

If I had undertaken the shoot, I would have asked the respected actor to laze back in a comfortable arm chair in a cosy den or an inviting living-room setting (with soft light filtering in from a nearby window, a coffee table stacked with obects d' art such as art tomes, asian artifacts, and the like) with his distinctive face turned slightly into camera.

The details, folks, that's what matters if you want to get it right!

In the informative interview, Chamberlain poignantly recalled fond memories of working with Kate Hepburn (who he starred opposite in "The Madwoman from Chaillot").

For example, the demanding perfectionist requested that the Thornbirds star meet her in person first,  before she would give the green light for casting.

The actor, who came "out" years ago, appears to be comfortable in his skin, even if the LA TIMES had difficulty fleshing it out.

I expect you'll spy Mr. Chamberlain around the neighborhood as he plucks up a few groceries now and then, or turns heads when he pops up at the local laundry with a handful of soiled linen dress shirts to be cleaned and pressed.

Happy Hunting if you're into celebrity sightings!

John Stamos...sexual addiction? TMZ getting warm...

Folks who tune in to TMZ are familiar with their sly modus operandi when it comes to celebrity scoops.

Harvey's young cubs usually stake out territory at one of the trendy bistros in West Hollywood, or the airport, then hunker down and wait for the golden opportunity to catch a celebrity on the fly in an embarrassing moment.

Usually, the ambush technique works.

If not, a full-frontal attack may net results, too.

More often-than-not, the snoops on the look-out for a scoop, will hurl a piece of bait - then pray - that it will land a morsel of juicy gossip.

In the case of a John Stamos, an opportunity slipped through their fingers, though.

For example, when one of the reporters from TMZ spied John heading in his direction on the street, he nonchalantly uttered up an observation.

"John, you're a handsome guy. How come you don't have a sexual addiction?"

An odd expression spread over his face before he shrugged and move on down the gauntlet.

That reaction should have been the tip off!

The truth of the matter?

Years ago, a male acquaintance confided in me - that one evening when he was out for a stroll in Hollywood - Stamos drove by and cruised him!

Before you could say - "easy pick up" - he was romping hot 'n heavy between the sheets with the sexy sitcom star.

Apparently, Stamos has an insatiable appetite for sex with studly males.

Unlike losers like Jesse James, the pretty boy actor is intelligent (and discreet) enough to keep his di** from getting caught in the wringer, fortunately.

And now for the big question.

Is Stamos a top or a bottom?

Corey Haim...death certificate deferred! Monkey on back kept actor down...

Although it has been widely reported that Corey Haim died from a drug overdose, the Los Angeles Coroner's office has stopped short of that conclusion, until a full autopsy report is in.

According to city officials, the cause of the child star's death is still unknown.

Pending the completion of a thorough investigation by the book, the Coroner's office was inclined to issue a death certificate at the end of the week, with a footnote that underscored that until further notice the immediate cause of death was deferred.

In the early hours of dawn on March 10th (2010), Corey Haim complained of flu-like symptoms, before collapsing at the Oakwood Apartments in the Valley.

Investigators found four perscription medication - Valium, Vicodin, Soma and the antipsychotic Haloperidol - in the  month-to-month rental he shared with his mother Judy.

While no illegal drugs were found that fateful day, sources have confirmed that Haim illegally obtained written perscriptions for drugs such as OxyContin, which added a mysterious twist to the tragic events.

As of this date, for instance, it has not been established if the troubled actor ever used the drug previously, or if he intended to have the prescription for the one in his possession filled.

The question as to whether or not the former drug addict's past and/or previous addictions led to his death in the prime of life still remains up in the air.

It has been confirmed with certainty, though, that Haim was suffering from pneumonia (which has firmly established that he was under the weather that evening with a legitimate ailment that needed attending to).

The  L.A. County Coroner's Office is waiting for toxicology results to determine if there were fatal levels of drugs in his system, which could have stopped Corey's heart from pumping healthy on the eve in question.

Prescription drugs such as - Valium, Vicodin and Soma - all slow  down the respiratory rate and could stop a person's breathing when taken while pneumonia is present.

With that in mind, investigators may be able to wrap up the report, in the near future.

Meanwhile, it should be noted for the record, that Haim's mother was informed that Corey suffered from pulmonary congestion and an enlarged heart.

But, no explanation was given as to what triggered the death, for the aforementioned reasons.

Haim starred in a string of teen-oriented box offices hits in the 1980s.

In "Lucas", Corey Haim crafted a stand-out performance, which I reported on just recently after a tribute screening at a Revival House (New Beverly Cinema) in Hollywood.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/03/corey-haimspooky-night-at-lucas.html

Unfortunately, Haim's promising movie career was derailed by an addition to drugs, which was widely reported in the press.

Although Haim struggled to regain ground in the form of a sizzling comeback, Hollywood-style, the monkey on his back fought back and kept him down.

Understandably, Corey Haim fans mourn the untimely demise of a gifted actor.

Corey Haim...State Atttorney General investigates illegal drug ring!

The State Attorney General's office is investigating a possible connection between Corey Haim's death and an illegal Southern California prescription drug ring.

During an ongoing investigation, authorities stumbled on unauthorized prescriptions in the actor's name, in a drug vendor's files in San Diego.

Prescription drugs were also found at Haim's rental unit at the Oakwood Apartments in the valley where he resided with his mother.

Allegedly, the sophisticated criminals secure the identities of  legitimate doctors (without their knowledge usually) in order to purchase prescription slips (in bulk pads) from authorized distributors.

Prescriptions are then written and sold on the street - at which point - the purchasersubmits them to a pharmacy to have the order filled (noone the wiser).

Pending further updates, Corey Haim's death is being acknowledged as an alleged overdose.

Golden Globe Awards...no surpises! Favorites sure-fire winners...

These past few days, I was so caught up in reporting on the CityCenter grand opening in Vegas, that a couple of assignments remained on the back burner stewing.

In the showbiz arena, the big event that all eyes were focused on this week, was the Foreign Press Association's announcement about  the nominees for the upcoming Golden Globe Awards celebration.

The 67th annual Globes will be handed out on January 17th in the shadow of the Oscar nominations to be revealed a few days later on February 2 (2010).

In some instances, there weren't any Golden Globe surprises.

"Up in the Air", "Nine, and "Avatar" all scooped up a  bevy of nominations as expected.

The Cecil B.DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award will also honor long-time veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese this year.

The Association - comprised of 83 foreign journalists - wass right on track this year in my estimation.

The directing category looks like a tough one to crack for any of the nominees:  Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker), James Cameron (Avatar), Clint Eastwood (Invictus), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds).

The acting category for men (drama) puts the spotlight on a performer out of the limelight in recent days.

Tobey Maguire was nominated for "Brothers" alongside George Clooney (Up in the Air), Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Colin Firth (a Single Man), Morgan Freeman (Invictus).

There's a lot of tough competition in the best actress category (drama), too.

Emily Blunt is my own personal favorite (Young Victoria), though I won't be disappointed if any of the other contenders - Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side), Helen Mirren (The Last Station), Carrey Mulligan (An Education), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) - dash up to the podium to pluck up a Gold Statue.

The selections for best picture (drama) are far-reaching and include: Avatar, Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, Push, and Up in the Air.

Patrick Swayze...succumbs to pancreatic cancer! Marriage of convenience?

Sadly, Patrick Swayze succumbed to pancreatic cancer yesterday at age 57.

For the past few months there was a swirl of gossip and innuendo surrounding Swayze on the heels of a tabloid feature that reported the charismatic star was on his  "death bed" and saying his last good-byes.

In fact, the scandalous heartless feature was the subject of much controversy.

I even jumped into the fray when I happened to turn on the TV one night and caught the tail end of a scurrilous report by Mary Hart on Entertainment tonight.

Frankly, I was so flabbergasted by her lack of sensitivity (and bad taste) that I penned a post on the issue.

Post:  03/12/09

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/03/mary-hartpatrick-swayze-coverage-on.html

Shortly after that, Patrick Swayze sat down with Barbara Walters for an intimate one-on-one interview to set the record straight.

When asked point blank if  he was gettting his affairs in order and preparing for death, Swayze was quite adamant that he was not doing anything of the sort.

Then, he proceeded to lambaste the tabloid press.

In so many words, he labelled their reprehensible "ambulance-chasing" as little more than a ghoulish graveside vigil inflicting mental and emotional cruelty in its wake.

In particular, the star of blockbuster hits such as "Ghost" stressed how hurtful the insensitive conduct was to his immediate family and friends.

Swayze was first diagnosed with the pancreatic cancer in 2008 and from the offset tried to keep his illness under wraps - with the ultimate aim - of facing the life-threatening cancer privately and with a modicum of dignity.

The multi-talented star was a classically-trained dancer.

In spite of that, the talented actor with the infectious smile, managed to shake off  those shackles.

For example, when he burst onto the silver screen in "Dirty Dancing", he introduced a machismo to the realm of dance that no other triple-threat in the industry had managed to accomplish 'til then (or to this day).

The passionate horse-breeder was no slouch when it came to the work ethic, either.

By his own admission, Swayze was also inclined to take risks, too.

There was a lot of integrity lurking behind those engaging dimples!

Although he was offered approximately $7 million bucks to appear in a sequel to "Dirty Dancing", he graciously passed.

Instead, he gussied himself up and sashayed across the screen in full drag in the off-beat comedy:

"To Wong Foo, thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar"

Personally, I found Patrick's portrayal of a "Queen" more entertaining (and believable) that Travolta's offering in "Hairspray".

Understandably, after the film opened, tongues started to wag.

Was Patrick gay - or at least - bisexual?

If so, it was doubtful - for career reasons - that he would ever have "outed" himself.

After all, during the filmmaking era Swayze broke into the Hollywood scene, producers tended to shy away from casting "gay" men when it came to "macho" leading-man roles.

A few years ago, I met a pretty young male actor who claimed to have "dirty danced" with Patrick between the sheets.

Rumors also floated around Hollywood that both he - and his lovely wife - were "gay" and that theirs was a marriage of convenience.

Albeit, one based on a great deal of honesty, mutual respect, and friendship.

It just may have been one of the best-kept secrets in Tinsel Town, eh?

Gary Busey...fu**ed up misquote!

VHI reporters were a little taken aback when a rough-'n-tumble actor Gary Busey - looking for all-the-world like he was stoned out of his ever-living gourd - waxed philosophically on the subject of changes as he trotted by on a mad (the key word here!) dash to a gig.

"All that changes is changes," the wild-eyed thespian spat out to a giggling reporter (and startled camera-crew in tow) as he sped by.

Say what?

The media hounds couldn't make hide-or-tail of the little nugget of wisdom.

No wonder!

"Busey, you freak," I screamed, as I tossed a flip-flop at the boob-tube in exasperation.

The flaky actor screwed it up!

I short poem I penned a few years back said it best.

"The only thing constant in life is change."

Got it, bonehead?

Not a bad observation about the natural order of things in the Universe, even if I do say so myself!

Joaquin Phoenix...losing it? Rehab on the way...

At the glittering red carpet premiere of Che at Mann's Chinese a few weeks ago, it was obvious to the paparazzi on hand that something was out-of-whack with Joaquin Phoenix!

As the well-heeled elite exited sleek limos that purred at the curb and sauntered up the press gauntlet into the much-anticipated screening, one wild and woolley-looking dude was inclined to go against the natural flow and stroll down the carpet to a perch near the street.

Once recognized, the actor caused quite a stir!

When a couple of celebrity interviewers tossed a handful of questions his way, Phoenix was mum for a second or two.

Then, the controversial actor did something strange.

He clenched his hands and thrust them forward into the crowd to reveal two words scribbled on his unkempt fingers.

"Good Bye"

A buzz rippled through the press corps.

Had the off-beat actor gone mad?

Then, I personally spied Joaquin whip a flask out of his jacket pocket and guzzle down a huge gulp of the mysterious liquid inside.

One for the road?

Next day, on the heels of this odd-ball behaviour, news zipped around the Globe.

Phoenix was calling it quits to become a rap star!

And, at the tail end of February, the retired thespian made good on his promise.

He actually turned up at a low-key Vegas joint to utter a few catchy rap beats.

In tow, was Casey Affleck, who was filming the entire fiasco for a documentary he'll release on the nutso actor-turned-rapper later in the year.

But, if a tumultuous appearance this past weekend at another watering hole was any indication, his stab at incoherent fast-mumbling may not pan out as expected.

Shortly after the poet in-his-own-mind stumbled on stage, a heckler got his goat - at which point - he scurried into the audience to confront the red-neck interloper.

Allegedly, security dragged Phoenix back towards the stage, then tossed him out of the spotlight into the street.

Was that a rap - um - wrap?

Keanu Reeves...appears in court in role as defendant! Paparazzi altercation takes foray into celebrity realms...

Keanu Reeves appeared on the witness stand yesterday - starring in a scene - which was obviously coached by an attorney.

For the jury, the whole fiasco was a fascinating peek into the world of celebrity and the pitfalls of fame in the underbelly of Hollywood.

Reeves was there to offer up a defense to an allegation that he ran down and injured an overzealous member of the paparazzi arising from a stake-out incident which occurred last year on a dark street in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Allegedly, the photographer - Alison Silva - ambushed Reeves in an aggressive attempt to secure stills of the popular actor which he intended to sell for cash to the highest bidder.

After he was cornered in his vehicle, Reeves attempted to move forward in his Porsche, when the ballsy upstart stood in the way and was summarily hit by the slow-moving vehicle.

Mr. Silva is suing Reeves for allegedly causing a "career-ending" injury to his wrist as a result of the fender-bender.

Based on the testimony provided by Reeves in court yesterday, I am inclined to side with the popular star.

For example, when asked if Mr. Silva was disrespectful, he curtly replied.

"He wasn't rude per se."

I expect that most guilty parties - anxious to get out of the fix - would have taken the occasion to accuse the party of being pushy and belligerent - whatever - to justify their actions to the court.

Because Mr. Reeves didn't take this approach, I am inclined to believe his account of things.

In addition, the Matrix Trilogy hero testified, that he nudged his luxury roadster forward a bit, to signal he intended to go on his way.

Under the same set of circumstances, I expect that any number of people would have responded the same way.

Was Mr. Reeves supposed to just sit there and have his liberty restricted by an individual who was obviously intruding upon his "body" space?

If the hopped-up photog chose to remain in front of the vehicle as it moved forward, he did so at his own peril, in my estimation.

Silva testified that he ambushed Reeves with the intent of hopefully catching the sexy stud exiting with a girlfriend in tow.

At this juncture, he revealed to a fascinated jury, that Reeves was what the paparazzi referred to as a "shark".

A shark, he elaborated, is a term used to describe a big star who rarely ventures out.

"Photos of Reeves, therefore, bring a higher price."

The trial continues.

Seth Green...actor plays Festival Director at New Beverly Cinema! Hollywood...

Seth dogged by success...

Although, he stood under bright overhead lighting at the confection booth, you probably would not have recognized the talented young actor.

He sported a frizzy little beard tinged with red, for starters.

And, a cap yanked down tight, hid a wide smile and mischievous eyes the movie-going crowd would have normally recognized from the big screen.

Even still, everyone in the lobby of the theatre was hip to who he was.

Seth Green.

The unlikely star has landed a few plum roles in recent years - and in the process - has seen his career sky-rocket - in spite of the fact gainful employment in the acting arena can run hot and cold depending on the kindness of strangers.

Tonight, the likeable screen persona is holding court at the New Beverly Cinema.

Yes, the theatre-owner invited Mr. Green to screen a few of his favorite films, in sequence over a span of a handful of celebrity-filled nights.

It's sort of a tradition at the Hollywood theatre; generally - high-profile directors like wacky Quentin Tarantino and discerning Edgar Wright - tend to be at the helm for these sort-of mini-festivals, though.

On a hot date night, Seth has offered up two olden-golden-goodies.

First up, the well-produced "Beverly Hills Cop", starring Eddie Murphy.

With - "Running Scared" - to follow on the twin bill.

In the intro, Green notes that Beverly Hills Cop was originally a vehicle for Sylvester Stallone.

But, the burly stud was forced to bow out, allowing for Murphy to trot in from the wings.

Can you imagine anyone but the charismatic comedian in the role?

Seth - like Murphy before him - is a little charmer, as well.

At times, he comes across like a stand-up comic, on the prowl.

At ease, and quick on the uptake, Green comfortably wins over the crowd.

When the impish character actor noted he first saw "Running Scared" about twenty years ago, the tidbit threw me for a second.

Say, just how old is this kid, anyway?

The buddy film which stars two of my least favorite actors - funny-man Billy Crystal and versatile actor Gregory Hines - prompted Green to ponder whether he had the machismo to play a cop on screen.

"Naw. I'm usually the dude in the band," he guffawed.

Actually - to his credit - the humble actor has inhabited a handful of juicy roles in features like Radio Days, Big Business, Idle Hands, Rat Race, to name a few.

Something tells me there are a couple of exciting multi-faceted roles in his future.

Maybe there will be a hand at directing, too?

Mr. Green will be presenting a couple of more features over the next few days at the Art Film House - so take one of 'em in - if you're in the mood for an upbeat theatre in-the-round experience.

After all - events at the New Beverly Cinema are always a hoot - and are often attended by surprise celebrity guests who usually add a jolt of adrenalin into the eclectic mix!
