HAIRSPRAY...Harvey Fierstein, Susan Anton & John Stamos on stage live! Hollywood Bowl! August 5-7th!

Fans are snapping up tickets - left, right, and center (no doubt) - to catch weekend performances of HAIRSPRAY at the Hollywood Bowl August 5th thru August 7th.

The much-ballyhooed stage production - based on the New Line Cinema hit feature - is expected to sell-out!

No wonder, two of the original cast members will be playing the boards, much to the delight of discerning theatrical music buffs.

The "Book" is by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan - while the musical compositions - are by Marc Shaiman.

Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman were the creative duo who drummed up the catchy - at times hilarious - lyrics.

Nick Jonas will obviously be a babe magnet - so expect a whoop or two - when he makes his entrance on the Hollywood Bowl stage!

See 'ya there!

Charlie Sheen...loser won't have day in court! Arbitration Judge to rule on issues!

Some celebs - Lindsay Lohan, for example - are hauled off to court kicking-and-screaming without too much problem.

Provided Sheriffs are in tow!

Standing before a Judge is not a piece of a cake, though, even for an actor skilled at play-acting.

On occasion, getting the naughty few to appear before a Judge as the frenzied tabloid press jockey for a perch in the gallery on the sidelines, is tantamount to pulling wisdom teeth!

I expect that if Charlie Sheen was hoping to make a big splash on his much-anticipated upcoming day-in-court, that his ego must be a bit deflated now, as the news flashed out of the court environs over the past twenty-four hours.

Uh-huh!

A Judge presiding over his long-awaited lawsuit against Warner Brothers Studios just ruled that Charlie may not have the opportunity to litigate his case in open court.

What a pisser, eh?

The legal decision is based on a valid clause in bad-boy Sheen's contract with Warner Brothers which stipulates that an arbitrator must preside over legal disputes in respect to contract issues.

Previously, Sheen vehemently opposed the arbitration route in papers that were lodged with the court in April earlier this year.

Marty Singer, Sheen's attorney, has argued to all within earshot that the recent ruling does not necessarily determine whether the case will be heard privately - and so - the legal eagle is bent on obtaining a further ruling from the bench warmer that allows for the litigation to proceed in a public forum later this year.

Sheen has alleged in his causes of action that he has a valid claim for damages to the tune of $10 million based on royalties due on reruns and sales of the show (Two and A Half Men).

In addition to the monies alleged due, Sheen is suing on the grounds that he was fired by management with the express aim of punishing him for emergency hospitalizations and attacks on producer Chuck Lorre in high-profile interviews he gave in the wake of being kicked off the lot at Warner Brothers.

Superior Court Judge Allan Goodman, who is presiding over the legal proceedings, has asked that both parties provide updates on the progress of the arbitration by November 20th (2011).

News at 11!

Hollywood Inn Express...Motel twist on room service! Sex on demand!

More than free breakfast at Hollywood Inn Express!

After a strenuous few all-nighters reporting on the Royal Wedding, and scrambled for two days to stay on top of the breaking news about the Osama bin Laden stealth mission that resulted in the terrorist's death (?), I was finally too popped to participate.

So, I plopped down on the comfy king size bed at my Motel, and slipped off into dreamland.

Suddenly, as I lay deep in slumber, a disturbance shook me from my peaceful state..

As I started to reach waking consciousness, I glanced in the direction of the door, and was startled to spy a man standing there!

As I quickly collected my thoughts in a concerted effort to free a fog hanging over my head, the unidentified male proceeded to strike up a conversation.

"Did you want fresh towels?"

OMG!

The male maid assigned to my Motel room just breezed in without knocking first.

I nodded in the affirmative as I proceeded to pull myself together

Within minutes, the Motel employee was back quizzing me once again.

"Are you single?"

Say what?

Not to be rude, I noted that I was.

But, it struck me a second later that I should not be having this bizarre dialogue with a total stranger hired to service the room, not me!

Before I could get my wits about me, the Latino male hit me with another question.

"Why?"

I quickly noted that I hadn't met the right person, then proceeded to wave him off.

"Thank you for the towels," I responded in a stem dismissive voice.

In all the years I have been a guest at Hotels, I've never experienced this kind of inappropriate intrusive conduct by a maid or any other employee.

I suppose it's to be expected at a Motel where graphic pornos are broadcast on the TV 24.7.

The fact that there wasn't any Gideon's Bible in the drawer  of the night desk should have tipped me off, too.

In the future, I guess I'll have to place the chain over the Motel room door before I take a nap, or at least double-latch it from inside to prevent unwanted advances from male (or female) maids.

I suppose if I post a review on Orbitz - with a detailed account of the incident - there will be a non-stop avalanche of bookings at the Motel

Don't forget your rubbers!

Each year, the SAG voting committee singles out Outstanding Performances by an Ensemble cast in the realms of TV Comedy and Drama.

For the 2010 calendar year, well-earned nods for dramatic bill-of-fare went to "Boardwalk Empire," "The Closer," "Dexter," "The Good Wife" and "Mad Men."

On the other side of the proverbial coin, nominees singled out for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble cast in a Comedy were handed out to "30 Rock," "Glee," "Hot in Cleveland," "Modern Family" and "The Office."

Screen Actors Guild Awards 47th Annual Life Achievement Award

Ernest Borgnine, a seasoned pro - well-liked and admired in the acting community - has been bestowed with the honor of Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

Artivist Film Festival...Benjamin Bratt film to screen @ Egyptian Theatre! Fest Dec. 1st thru Dec. 5th...

The good news?

Tickets for screenings @  the 6th Annual Artivist Film Festival (opens tomorrow) are free!

But, if you didn't RSVP last week - chances are - you may be SOL!

I booked my seats last week, so I'm sitting pretty.

The Film Festival venue - the Egyptian Theatre - is probably one of the most prestigious venues in town.

Alighting there, to catch a flick, is like stepping into all the old-world-charm of once-glamorous Hollywood.

Over the years, there have been many a premiere there of some import.

For example, the Egyptian's grand opening coincided with Hollywood's very first movie premiere in the month of October (1922).

The Egyptian screened "Robin Hood" (starring Douglas Fairbanks & Wallace Beery).

In true glitzy Grauman style, the splashy affair featured bright lights, a galaxy of stars and the very first red carpet run-away (a novelty idea that stuck and has continued as a great Tinseltown tradition to this day).

The Egyptian theme was inspired by the discovery of King Tut's tomb in the year the elegant theatre was built.

Like the Chinese Theatre (farther down the boulevard), the architectural beauty had an open courtyard out front,  to take advantage of street traffic.

The forecourt featured massive, four-feet wide Egyptian-style columns, hieroglyphics, murals, a tiled fountain, large pots filled with exotic plants, and even a 12-foot figure of a dog-headed Egyptian god guarding the portico.

These forecourts were the perfect setting for the ubiquitous (inquisitive) press to perch and jockey for publicity stills - as Hollywood's high-profile movie stars traipsed down a gauntlet - edged with excited fans and wide-eyed curiosity-seekers.

Next week, if you attend a film at the festival, you may end up rubbing shoulders with a celebrity, too
Artivist's mission is to strengthen the voice of advocates in the medium of celluloid.

During the five-day run at the Egyptian, forty independent narratives will spring to life on the celebrated screen, in addition to a handful of insightful thought-provoking narratives, docmentaries, and short films.

See 'ya there!

Footnote
For the first time ever, after penning and publishing a post at this site, I have been forced to delete all reference to artist - Bob Roberts - due to the shocking reprehensible conduct he willfully and wrongfully engaged in last night at the opening of his Art Exhibition running in tandem with the tattoo festivities. For the most part - when I have taken a jaunt two around local & National scenes in the past (regular readers are undoubtedly aware of the fact that I started my own career as a painter) - I have generally found a large percentage of these creative types to be kind (utmost and foremost), intelligent, articulate, instinctive, and visionary (to name just a few of their shining character traits).Unfortunately, such was not the case with Bob Roberts last evening at an Art gallery. Shortly after I sauntered up to say hello (at the urging of one of his handlers) he flew into a rage and proceeded to hurl false and misleading statements about me within earshot of a whole room full of strangers.Essentially, he slandered me without any good reason to do so. In a civilized society, wild and disrespectful conduct of the kind Roberts engaged in, can not be tolerated. For this reason, there won't be any coverage for Bob Roberts (or any of his projects) in the near or distant future. However, as aforementioned, an expose will be published this afternoon - at which point - I'll wash my hands of the aging hippie derelict who is without a doubt a disgrace to the Artistic community, for starters.

Festish Nation...kink & black vinyl @ Circus in Hollyweird! August 8th...

When I dashed out to my car this morning, I spied a flier tucked in the window on the driver's side of the vehicle.

"Fetish Nation" screamed out at me in a neon purple scroll that intertwined with a scintillating image of a lithe model in a ultra-sexy body-fitting black vinyl suit.

A gas mask shielded her face.

Kinky!

At Circus in Hollywood (tonight), models will strut a catwalk in what is being as a:

FETISH. FASCIST. FASHION SHOW.

Bruce Perdew (Evil Empire Club) joined forces with Club Hell to present the monthly fetish event.

Get this!

There are four rooms of twisted debauchery to explore the dark side in, live performances to titillate, erotic videos, and heart-pounding strains of frenzied music to get the adrenalin rushing.

1000 guests turned out for the premiere last week, but word of mouth has been fantastic, so expect a record number of Fetish aficionados to descend on Hollyweird tonight at the witching hour.

A pass (downloaded from the web site) guarantees a discount for cover at the door.

Screen Actors Guild...a**holes mistreat members! Actors urged to tear up Union cards...

Well, the other shoe dropped at SAG this week.

For me, it was the last straw.

Starting today, I'll be urging actors and performers under the Guild's jurisdiction to jump ship, and set the ceremonial barge adrift.

Over the years, as a full-fledged member, I've put up with a lot of nonsense from staffers and Union reps at the Screen Actors Guild.

The party is over as far as I am concerned.

Of course, the attitude was always thick over there on Wilshire Boulevard.

The suits thought their sh** didn't stink, alright.

And, the individuals hired (and elected) to do the bidding for Guild Members, were not only slow in delivering once they stood at the plate, but downright rude and insulting to the membership when they encountered any criticism back.

Just this past year - during the toughest contract negotiations with the Producers to date - the truth rang out loud and clear.

Screen Actors Guild reps were only interested in saving their own butts and at any cost.

Unfortunately, that selfish (misguided) approach split the Guild in two - and ultimately - resulted in a total loss of faith in the SAG, the negotiating teams, and the powers-that-be (the executive leadership & paid employees hired to run day-to-day affairs).

Thumbing your nose at a producer, or a powerful movie studio, is generally not a good idea in
uncertain times.

Nor does it bode well to mistreat and/or ignore the wishes of a Guild Membership.

For example, this past week it came to my attention that a member - who mailed in a dues payment for $50.00 - was ousted from the Guild because of an oversight over a paltry $8.00 shortfall.

The mind-boggling disgusting scenario went down something like this.

The member mailed in a check for $50.00 to ensure membership was not suspended for failure to pay the required fees due every six months.

Imagine that!

Approximately one month later, SAG returned the lone check (in spite of the fact it was good) uncashed with a note informing the startled actor that because there was a shortfall of eight dollars (he should have written a check in the sum of $58.00 to meet the current obligation), the Guild proceeded to cancel membership without further notice.

This is a example of the kind of dim-witted, mean-spirited - unjust - guild action that goes down at the Screen Actors daily with nary a concern about the livelihood of the member in question - or even their feelings - for that matter.

If there was a mere shortfall of eight lousy bucks, surely there were sufficient grounds to overlook the shortfall, apply the payment, and allow the member to remain in good stead.

If that was not the case, as a matter of form, shouldn't a staff member have contacted the individual about the problem, so the balance could be paid without the necessity of such severe (outrageous) action on the part of the Guild?

Isn't that what professionalism is all about?

In view of the fact the individual in question was a member in good standing for twenty years, it shocks the sensibilities to learn that SAG would act in such a barbaric disgusting fashion!

At a time when the economy is bad (and actors are out of work due to budget restraints, a slow down in production, and run-a-way filming out-of-state) surely the Guild should be trying to show a little compassion (and mercy) on its unemployed members who are struggling to eat and keep a roof over their heads.

In recent months, SAG lowered the boom on SAG actors who chose to go on "honorary withdrawal" from the Guild, as well.

In spite of the fact a member may have done so due to financial hardship, or pressing family commitments, SAG now requires that an actor face a sort-of "inquisition" (to ensure their leave of absence was innocent and devoid of any political motivation) before membership will be reinstated after a"court" finding that establishes merit to the petition.

Huh!

SAG is supposed to be a union representing its membership, not a Nazi concentration camp where actors must tow the line, or face a "holocaust".

For the aforementioned reasons, I have decided not to support SAG any longer in their contract negotiations, stand behind their efforts to unionize all productions here and/or across the country, or bother to take it upon myself to enlighten actors about the benefits of a "Union" house.

In fact, I plan to recommend productions go non-union - or better yet - urge actors to start organizing a new Union for performers that will ultimately (i) care about the well-being of the worker (ii) have compassion on a performer's plight when times get financially tough (iii) endeavour to represent the best interests of Union Members and not just the prurient interests of paid employees, managers, and the self-serving contracted Executive Branch.

Amen!

Fame...quote!

The other day when I cruised into the drive-thru bumper-to-bumper at the fast-food joint - Jack-in-the-box - the perky little server started to hand my order over to me, when her eyes suddenly went wide.

"Don't I know you?" she asked, with an incredulous tone in her voice, as her body slipped into a frozen mode behind the counter.

Yup, I'm familiar with that creeping paralysis wherever I go these days!

Within seconds, the hapless employee recognized me.

What good fortune to have crossed paths with a celebrity!

When I jokingly mentioned the incident to a friend, his response was priceless.

"If they recognize you at take-out at Jack-in-the-box you must be famous."

Screen Actors Guild...tenative contracts agreed to!

The National Board of Directors voted on April 19th (2009) to approve a tentative TV/Theatrical deal with the producers and recommend it for ratification to the members.

After a months-long battle over contract issues - played out in nasty detail in the press - the National Board of Directors voted 53.38 percent to 46.62 percent to approve and recommend to SAG members new two-year successor agreements.

The proposed agreement covering actors in the jurisdiction of motion pictures and television, delivers a 3.5% effective annual increase comprised of a 3% wage increase and a .5% pension and health contribution increase upon ratification ( and a 3.5% wage increase in year two).

After all the terms were discussed extensively in a closed-door meeting, it was moved and seconded that the National Board direct the interim National Executive Director to send the tentative agreement between the Producers (represented by the AMPTP) and the Screen Actors Guild to the membership for ratification with a recommendation from the Board to vote ‘Yes.’

On the heels of the vote count, SAG National President Alan Rosenberg urged members to carefully review both the pros and cons in the referendum materials and exercise their right to vote."

“We are pleased that Screen Actors Guild members will soon be voting on a deal for television and motion pictures. We’re eager to get our members back to work and to focus now on the challenges ahead, particularly on initiating a comprehensive effort to thoughtfully plan for the future," added interim National Executive Director David White.

White proceeded to note that the negotiating committee, task force and professional staff worked tirelessly on the agreement over the past twelve months with a positive end result.

On behalf of the National Board, he thank the dedicated teams for contributing their time, commitment and expertise to the cause.

According to Chief Negotiator John McGuire, the tentative agreement delivers increased contributions to the SAG pension plan, increased minimums, a significant gain in background actor numbers from 50 to 55 over the term of the contract, and tracks new media provisions achieved by other entertainment industry unions.

"The terms of the agreement puts SAG in sync with the other unions, but does not include the extended term recently proposed by the AMPTP," he noted for the record.

Provisions of the proposed deal include:

* A two-year term of agreement concluding June 30, 2011.
* Effective annual increases of 3.0% in wage increases.
* A .5% increase in pension contributions upon ratification.
* A 3.5% wage increase one year following ratification.
* Greater residuals for TV & Theatrical features than those paid for DVD.
* Residuals for ad-supported streams of feature films & TV programs.
* Residuals for derivative new media programs.
* Additional background actors in features.
* Increased compensation for guest stars from 7.5% to 10%.
* Increased trailer money break ( $2,500 to $3,000 per week).
* Increased overtime money for 3-day performers ($2,700 to $3,000).

Staff at SAG have reported that the ratification ballots will be mailed to eligible Guild members in early May with an expected return date (votes cast) at the end of the month.

Tabulation will occur immediately upon the conclusion of balloting.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is the nation’s largest labor union representing working actors in the country today.

Established in 1933, SAG has a rich history in the American labor movement, especially with regard to fighting for artists’ rights amid the current digital revolution which has swept the entertainment industry over the past couple of decades.

With 20 branches nationwide, SAG represents nearly 120,000 actors who work in motion pictures, television, industrial films, commercials, video games, music videos and all new media formats.

The Guild's main thrust is to enhance actors’ working conditions and pursue realistic compensation for services rendered.

Although opposing factions threatened to split the Actor's Union asunder in recent days over the contentious contract issues aforementioned, SAG continues to endeavour to be a unified voice on behalf of artists’ rights.

SAG is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO which is headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

The Oscars...Hugh Jackman & Beyonce to tête-à-tête! Zak Efron saunters on stage...

Fasten your seat belts, you're in for a bumpy ride tonight!

The rumor around the town the past few days is that Oscar producers have been trying to keep the identities of celebrity presenters and stage performers under wraps so that their glitzy walk-ons will be a surprise to viewers when they tune in on Sunday night.

But, this is Tinsel Town - after all - and the walls have Obama-sized ears!

In addition to hosting the little Gold man's big bash this year, hunky stud Hugh Jackman is allegedly slated to trip-the-light-fantastic under the flood lights with pop chanteuse Beyonce!

And, with the specific aim of rustling up nubile young blood in a bold-faced effort to boost ratings among the teeny-bopper set this year, the producers have hired on Zak Efron and Amanda Garrett (High School Musical) to showcase a catchy ditty or two at the 81st Annual Awards Show.

An insider whispered in my ear there will be close-up shots of the heart-throb's sensual eyebrows.

They're not waxed, 'ya know!

Mamma Mia stars will warble an upbeat tune or two, too.

Yup, quite a few in-the-closet dancing Queens in the audience in at the Kodak, will be tapping a foot or two when the musical hits ratchet up the night's festivities.

Who knows, maybe Pierce Bronson will toss in the Bond tuxedo image and squeeze into spandex pants and silk shirt, and twirl a tad with Meryl Streep in the wings.

One thing is for sure, though.

A well-trained actor or two will get all tongue-tied on stage come acceptance-speech time (and summarily make a fool of his-self) and jokes that writers half-expected to gag viewers will undoubtedly fall flat as Jamie Curtis' chest.

But, if die-hard Academy Awards fans are lucky - there may be a wardrobe malfunction or two - to keep the gossip-mills generating hot air balloons around the blogosphere for months on end.

Even so, at the end of the no-tinsel-unturned 3 1/2 hour show, Oscar devotees will be switching off their flat wide-screen high-definition sets, and wondering aloud.

Is that all there is?

'Til next year, anyhoo!

Hugh babe, ready for 'ya!

Night of the Living Dead...midnight screening at New Bev! Creepy 16 mm edition...

Zombie screamers tantalize filmgoers at the New Beverly Cinema

One of my squeamishly fave horror films is "Night of the Living Dead" which will be screening at midnight on Friday February 6th at the New Beverly Cinema.

I expect there will be a long line snaking around the block since folks in this neck of the woods tend to crave for a little blood, guts, and gore around the witchin' hour!

Horror Drunx and Sid Terror are screening George Romero's vastly entertaining (and engrossing) "DEAD" which was initially released as a 1968 black & white independent feature.

The dark plot focuses on the mysterious reanimation of the recently dead and bold-faced efforts of a valiant posse of heroes to survive the night while trapped in a rural Pennsylvania townhouse.

The original budget was $114,000.

Initially, the midnight screamer didn't realize a profit, though.

The stick-to-it attitude of Romero paid off eventually, after a long stint of releases popularized the ragged entry, in the world of cinema.

To date, the fright-night thriller has grossed over $12 million dollars domestically.

Obviously, the scary mainstay savored a more lucrative market overseas with the popcorn crowd, where it has grossed about $30 million dollars Internationally to date.

When it was first released, "Dead" was strongly criticized for explicit controversial content.

Even still, the little film that could, was registered at the Library of Congress in 1999 where it was listed in the National Film Registry as a motion picture that not only reflected the essence of the genre but one that was singled out as "historically, culturally, and aesthetically important."

While film historians note that it was not the first zombie film that caused fans and critics to sit up and take heart-pounding notice, "Night" did influence the modern pop-culture archetype of the zombie as a mainstay in that intriguing film arena.

See 'ya at the New Bev tomorrow night, eh?

Brad Pitt...hates the paparazzi! Naive actor takes the cash but neglects obligation...

Why all the cheesecake if you don't like to show it off?

Apparently Brad Pitt revealed on a network TV show that he "hates" the paparazzi.

In fact, Jolie's golden boy had some amusing thoughts to add to that.

"Let me be blunt: I hate them. I hate these people. I don't understand...that they do that for a living."

Brad, you're either very naive, or you forgot what it's like to be a struggling actor.

I say: tough ti**y!

Having to "deal" with the paparazzi is part of the nature of the best.

Brad - do you think that fans go to your films, rent one of your movies, or snatch up a magazine with your mug on the front cover - because they respect you for your acting?

Frankly, for the most part, no.

Let's face it, you're a pretty boy with chiseled abs.

That's your appeal, sorry!

Fans fantasize about you, lust after your body, and pine for a glimpse into your private life.

No, not just the one you inhabit in a role on screen.

The photos you complain about facilitate that essential aspect of the "business".

If you are not aware of that "reality", it's time to turn in your SAG card, and try your hand at selling real estate.

Or move to Europe, curse America ever after, and become a recluse.

Yes, Brad - in case you weren't aware of it - the film industry is a part of an intricate concern known as Hollywood's dream factory.

Brad Pitt is a cog in it.

Granted, I agree with you that the paparazzi should not - as you pointed out in your interview - climb over walls around the perimeters of your private property or call out your children's names as you're dropping them off at school in order to land an exclusive still.

That is wrong.

Instead of whining about, though, do something constructive.

Organize a band of supporters, draft an initiative, and submit it to Los Angeles City Council.

Or, put it on a ballot in the next election.

Whatever.

You say you don't understand that "they" do that for a living.

Heh, maybe photo journalists have a family to support.

Did you never sign on for a turkey - let's face it Brad, two of your last films were real stinkers - just for the big bucks?

When I reflect on your career - and that of others - one thing appears obvious.

On the rise up, actors tend to be so kissy-kissy with the fans, Accommodating to the media, and on-the-ready to offer up the gift of the gab in order to slyly maneuver their way onto the cover of People or GQ.

You name it.

Then, once a high-profile star has managed to secure a financial footing - and likewise, stash a little moolah in the bank - they turn the screws.

"The hell with 'ya. Who needs the likes of you."

Yes, that's the ungrateful lament of the day.

No man is an island, Mr. Pitt, and when you turn your back on your bread-and-butter, that message may come home to roost crystal clear.

Thank your lucky stars you've had such a successful run.

Keep up the nonsense and you'll be starring in half-hour infomercials on cable at 3 a.m nightly.

Made you need to eat a bit of humble pie to get your priorities straight!

AFI Fest...glittering parties & hobnobbing amid the old world charm of the Roosevelt Hotel

As I climbed the small winding staircase, and stepped out onto the landing, the view took my breath away.

In the distance, the Hollywood Hills carved a jagged dark line across the horizon, and a quarter moon hung just to the right of Venus, the only brilliant star winking out at the guests below on the roof of the 3-story penthouse at the Roosevelt Hotel.

The spectacular suite - once a love nest for film greats Carole Lombard and Clark Gable - was the setting for a glittering after-party for the West Coast Premiere of the new feature film release "OF ALL THE THINGS".

Director Jody Lambert - who attended a red carpet event at the ArcLight earlier - strolled in with well-wishers in tow.

There was a lot of glad-handing and the liquor flowed.

I sipped on perfectly-chilled champagne provided by an impeccably-dressed rep from Barefoot Wine, Eric Dorton

Of course, a number of well-heeled guests charged the bar for the exotic cocktails, too, that were being conjured up from one Fest sponsor's product, the ever-popular party favor, Absolut.

"OF ALL THE THINGS" focuses on the career of Dennis Lambert who started out as a child performer in the Catskills and ended up with a recording contract at Capitol Records at a startlingly young age.

The man with a remarkable musical ear proceeded to make inroads in the industry when he wrote & produced hits for Freddie & the Dreamers (Do the Freddie); the Nashville Teens (Find my Way back Home); The McCoys (Up & Down); and the Roulettes (I Can't Stop).

Lambert went on to work with Dusty Springfield, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Glen Campbell (Rhinestone Cowboy).

The giant left the business for a number of years, but was finally persuaded by a Filipino promoter to go on tour and saunter back into the spotlight.

"Of All the Things" chronicles that successful transition back into the limelight.

And, as Lambert's son chuckled, offers filmgoers a chance to watch "Dad" get his musical mojo back.

In the past, the AFI has spun out its celluloid offerings from a spiffy rooftop lounge at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome, with all the modern conveniences.

This year, the Fest chose to center its base of operations amid the old-world charm of the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood proper.

This year, AFI Fest Members and the media are being treated to a round of scintillating press junkets and dazzling soirees at the AUDI SUITE - for instance - where film buffs may savor a bird's eye view of the famous pool (adorned with a swirl of soothing patterns by noted English painter David Hockney).

The Cinema Lounge in the Oscar Room, meanwhile, wows with its panoramic view of Hollywood Boulevard, Walk of Fame, and ornately decorated Mann's Chinese Theatre across the street.

The Roosevelt has always maintained a unique relationship with the tony set in Tinsel Town.

The comfy Roosevelt was founded in 1927 by a handful of power brokers which included America's Sweetheart - Mary Pickford - Douglas Fairbanks, Sid Grauman, and Louis B. Mayer.

Initially, the Hotel housed filmmakers and their crews when they came out from the east coast to toil on location in the Los Angeles area.

The "Blossom Room" hosted the first Academy Awards Ceremony on May 19th, 1929.

Can you believe it?

Douglas Fairbanks and Al Jolson gave away 13 Statutes in a staggering five minutes.

A far cry from today's bloated three-hour televised presentations!

And, sexy siren - Marilyn Monroe - posed here at the swimming pool for her first modeling gig for a suntan lotion.

Down-on-his-luck - David Niven - actually set up a cot in the servant's quarters when he first came to Hollywood to break into the biz.

There have been some celebrated entrances onto the world stage here, too.

Mary Martin, for example, began her singing career at the Hotel's nightclub (Cinegrill).

Her salary was allegedly $35.00 a week.

If you're in the elevator or hall, you may hear guests whisper in hushed tones that there are apparently two ghosts haunting the Hotel.

Fifties screen idol Montgomery Clift allegedly haunts the ninth floor (suite #928) where he used to stroll the halls memorizing his lines for the Academy award-winning film - "From Here to Eternity".

Eyewitnesses swear they've heard loud noises coming from the empty suite - and going bump in the night - and that phones are often left mysteriously off the hook.

The other apparition is said to be the ghostly image of Marilyn which appears in a full-length mirror which used to hang in her poolside suite (now situated next to the elevator).

Unfortunately, The Roosevelt Hotel went into a decline in the 1950's.

Sadly, during that time-frame, one owner demolished exquisite archways, covered up elaborately painted ceilings, and bathed the entire hotel in a sickly shade of "green."

There was a call to tear down the "eyesore", but an "Angel" rescued the historic Hotel in the nick of time.

Radisson bought the historic hotel and restored it to its former glory with the aid of original blueprints and old period photographs at a cost of $35 million.

The swanky new old-world Roosevelt Hotel is also now protected by virtue of its status on the National Historic Register.
