AFTRA...Actors union nabs residuals for game streaming! Landmark contract!

When AFTRA (The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) first formed decades ago, understandably, the union's jurisdiction was quite limited with regard to its reach in the industry.

Initially, the Screen Actors Guild maintained control over productions shot on "film", while AFTRA (a sister union) kept an eagle eye on contract violations in the area of video programs such as soaps, TV sitcoms, and broadcast news (television and radio artists).

In recent years, relationships became strained with producers at the major studios and networks with the advent of rich media productions (which extended to the Internet) which were "wide open" and an area rife with non-union workers.

When the union reps first attempted to negotiate contracts in these uncharted waters, it was a tough row to hoe.

The ensuing conflicts between union reps, actors, and producers - just about toppled both unions - in fact.

This week, AFTRA is celebrating a major victory in their ongoing talks.

A pact was made over "game streaming" on the world-wide-web which is significant.

For example, actors (and performers in all areas of entertainment such as dancers, singers, etc.) will now be paid a one-time fee when "games" are streamed on the Internet.

AFTRA's negotiators accepted the "cloud-gaming" fee provision in exchange for giving up claims to other types of residual payments for video games (previously negotiated in a prior 3-year contract).

The landmark agreement is sure to pave the way for the Screen Actors Guild which has yet to finalize agreements in their realm of jurisdiction.

Stay posted!

Screen Actors Guild...actors reach settlement in class-action! Union sued for Foreign Residuals!

If you performed in a motion picture, television program, or other audio-visual work - that earned foreign royalties - your rights as an actor  may be affected by a recent court-approved class action settlement.

On February 18th (2011), the Superior Court of the County of Los Angeles, approved a class action settlement in Case No. BC377780 (Osmond v. Screen Actors Guild, Inc.) and ordered that all actors affected be provided a copy of the "Judgment and Order" Granting the "Final Approval" of the Class Action Settlement.

Interested parties may view the document to determine their eligibility to be a part of the "class" by cruising over to SAG’s website.

http://www.sag.org/files/sag/documents/ClassActionNotice_2011.pdf

The lawsuit arose as a result of the collection and distribution of royalties (also known as levies) on blank DVDs and tapes in several foreign nations.

Various countries have adopted laws imposing royalties, which are designed to provide compensation to rights holders, including performers in motion pictures and other works.

The Plaintiffs (and each of them) alleged in their causes of action that the Screen Actors Guild failed to properly distribute foreign royalties to performers.

In their moving papers, SAG asserted that they acted appropriately in their capacity as Union Reps, handled all foreign royalties properly, and proceeded to vehemently deny all the subsequent allegations, in addition to pleading other defenses.

The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or an indication that any law was violated.

For further information, please contact SAG representatives at the following web address.

Cougar booby!

Shocker of all shockers!

Fans were saddened when the unexpected news broke that actress Susan Sarandon and actor Tim Robbins have gone their separate ways after two cozy decades of snuggling up between-the-sheets.

Boo-hoo?

Naw, never did hanker up to that mealy-mouthed dweeb, Robbins!

'Ya know the type.

A mediocre talent always running off at-the-mouth on politics!

But, Sarandon has allegedly sprung back - in true Cougar-style - boasting a fall romance with business partner Jonathan Brickman.

Some sexual hi-jinks in the hay, eh Susan?

Taylor Lautner...to spread for Playgirl! Fans mixed feelings...

Taylor Lautner to moon pages of Playgirl!

"Taylor Lautner is going to bare all for Playgirl," a female DJ yelped half-ecstatic and half-in-shock,on her rush-hour squawk-box radio show.

OMG!

"I don't know that I want to see THAT much of him," she confided to the Twilight fan next her.

"Me, either," the other dudette squealed with disapproval.

I expect that reaction was the same around the country - in Twilightville - and elsewhere.

Was "Jacob" going Hollywood  - on the fast-track - to nowhere?

What next!

A reality show?

Gary Cooper...commemorative stamp unveiled @ Gene Autry Museum! September 10th...

Gary Cooper was larger-than-life - a dazzling screen idol - and adored by many.

Now, it has been announced that a U.S. commemorative stamp in his honor, will be uveiled next month at the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles (September 10th).

The Postmaster General is making a big ta-do about it, too.

Leonard Maltin will be on hand to act as the Master of Ceremonies.

At press time, it was announced there will be a tribute to the cowboy hero and follow-up speeches by Maria Cooper Janis (the handsome actor's daughter), Alan C. Kessler (Board of Governors; U.S. Postal Service), and scholarship receipient (Sonya Oberly).

The general public is invited to participate in the festivities (free) and take a gander at  Gary Cooper's Oscar (High Noon/1952)  which will be on exhibit in the Gene Autry Imagination Gallery.

In addition, a poster for the Classic Western will be on display alongside a Norman Rockwell portrait of Cooper, which was commissioned for an "Along Came Jones" ad campaign many moons ago.

John Gray (President & CEO of the Autry National Center) sang the screen idol's praises.

“Gary Cooper projected an image of honesty and sincerity that resonated with the average American."

"His long and distinguished career deserves continued recognition, and the Autry is proud to help preserve his legacy for future generations," Gray added.

Gary Cooper appeared in more than 100 films during his acting career.

Film historians have noted over the years that  Cooper's quiet understated acting style was particularly well suited to the stoic Western heroes he often portrayed.

Critics raved about his portrayal of Marshal Will Kane in "High Noon" which was a big box office hit, for instance.

Cooper's first all-talking feature was "The Virginian" shot in 1929.

On the heels of that breakthrough role, Cooper went on to flesh out the character of  "Wild Bill Hickok" in The Plainsman (1936), which was directed by the infamous Cecil B. DeMille.

"Along Came Jones" and "High Noon"  (Cooper's best-known film)  followed.

The Autry National Center is an intercultural history center dedicated to exploring the experiences and perceptions of the diverse peoples of the American West.

The Autry celebrates the cultures of the American West through three institutions on two Los Angeles campuses: the Southwest Museum of the American Indian in Mt. Washington; the Museum of the American West in Griffith Park; and the Institute for the Study for the American West, which comprises the Braun Research Library and the Autry Library and is headquartered in Griffith Park.

Admission to the U.S. Postal Service event is free.

Harry Potter...pines to play role of Transvestite!

A bit Milton Berle, Daniel!

I was thumbing through one of the local gay rags , when I spied a headline about English Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who inhabits the role of "Harry Potter" in the screen adaptations of the best-selling books by celebrated fiction-writer J.K. Rowlings.

"Daniel Radcliffe wants to play a transvestite."

No, a transvestite is not a Vampire from Transylvania, by any stretch of the imagination.

If you're confused, well, you outta be.

Transvestites have, after all, been transformed (another "trans" word breaking out into the mainstream of late) somewhat over the past couple of decades or so since my own debauched youth when I crossed paths with a lady of the night or two of that exotic persuasion.

For example, in the stone-age of the gay community (men who were drawn to same-sex partners were referred to as "homos" way back then) males who indulged their sensual fantasies in naughty silky underthings (and kinky toys to heighten the scintillating walk on the wild side) were known as transvestites.

Trannies, for short!

But, it should be noted for the record that closetted dudes (light in the loafers as they used to say in the heyday of Tinseltown) just got their jollies off - for the most part - wafting around in drag, camping it up on stage in tacky back-alley fag hang-outs, and what-have-you.

Not my cup of tea!

In fact, only a handful of cross-dressers I've been "this-close-to" ever put forth the Freudian notion that they were tortured women trapped in buffed male bods aching to be set "free".

Christine Jorgensen - a former military man in the U.S. ranks (with brass ba**s, I surmise in retrospect) - was one of the first to go where no man had gone before.

Some say, William Shatner was pulling up the rear, though.

Just kidding trekkie fans!

But, it is a truism.

Once the old "johnson" gets snipped, there's no Monday-morning quarterbacking later, that's for sure!

During the late sixties and early seventies, I befriended a couple of talented "show girls" who opened the door of awareness and understanding for me.

Sandy St. Peters, for instance - lauded for her flawless impressions of iconic female film personas on stage - was one of the well-adjusted few who made the transition from "King of the Jungle" to "Diva!" successfully.

Tragic Edith Piaf belted it out best.

"No regrets".

In her later years, Sandy was virtually elevated to status of "Saint", and was a blessing to the GLBTG community until she passed to spirit.

Craig Russell, on the other hand, was a multi-talented "Scarborough" boy (like moi), who sky-rocketed to fame briefly here and abroad.

Unfortunately, Russell was unable to conquer his childhood demons.

Sadly, the quirky stage performer met a tragic demise before his full potential was fully realized.

Then, of course, there's Dame Edna from down under!

A dazzling blue-haired charmer and the toast of any town she saunters into.

Eureka!

I say, that's it.

How 'bout Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Dame Edna traipsing the boards in a revival of a celebrated stage play?

Charlie's Aunt!

I can hear the beautiful sound of the cash registers now.

Ka-ching! Ka-ching!

Hung like a horse, Daniel?
Then, tuck it under for the stage show, Dude!

Entourage...WeHo shoot! Sheriff has sh** for brains! Lies about copyright infringement laws...

So is a Sheriff's pie hole!

Yesterday morning I was trundling down the oh-so-trendy Melrose (yes, of "Melrose Avenue" fame) when I spied a film crew setting up just shy of the Urth Cafe.

I've expended many-an-hour on location over the years in my capacity as an actor, so I am generally pretty jaded when it comes to the fascinating realm of movie-making on the streets of Hollywood.

However, when a bystander noted that scenes were being shot for Entourage (a fave cable show about the ins-'n-outs of the film biz) I was inclined to stop and take an up-close gander.

Within seconds of whipping out my HD Video camera, a Sheriff with a stick up his butt, lumbered over and informed me that if I wasn't a member of the crew I was required to stand on the other side of the street.

Okie-dokie!

Shortly after I flipped open the screen of my snazzy camera with all the bells and whistles, and I began to pan in close to capture two actors alighting from an old Lincoln Continental, old jowly-face was throwing his weight around again (which was considerable).

"I told 'ya they were shooting. You're too close to the shot."

I corrected the dim-wit.

"No, you instructed me to cross over to this side of the street."

It wasn't my fault the street stretched for miles each way - and likewise - that he failed to specify where to exactly perch.

And the city of West Hollywood pays this loser a salary?

After a brief chat with another lout on the force, the grunt shuffled back over, and persisted with his harassment.

"You can take still photos, but no video. That would be copyright infringement."

Boy, did this officer have sh** for brains, or what?

You see, as fate would have it, I studied law.

And, one of my courses focused on copyright infringement, in particular.

I was inclined to enlighten him about his ignorance, but keenly aware that if I made a fuss , he might try to find some excuse to cite me, seize my video footage, whatever.

You know how they abuse the color of authority, after all!

So, I played along.

"Sure, whatever you say Officer."

I half-turned at this point to avoid laughing in his ugly face.

What an idiot!

Residents of the neighborhood, tourists - even a curiosity seekers - were certainly within their rights to videotape events ongoing in the busy public street!

Notwithstanding, it should have been obvious to any moron with an IQ of about 2, that no one can copyright a street!

Old lard a** was spending too much time at the doughnut shop when he should have been pouring over the law books instead.

For his sake, I sure hope his di** is bigger than his brain!

Bottom line, he's doesn't know his butt from a pothole in the ground.

Rainbow Sheriff's out-of-touch with reality!

Screen Actors Guild...a**holes mistreat members! Actors urged to tear up Union cards...

Well, the other shoe dropped at SAG this week.

For me, it was the last straw.

Starting today, I'll be urging actors and performers under the Guild's jurisdiction to jump ship, and set the ceremonial barge adrift.

Over the years, as a full-fledged member, I've put up with a lot of nonsense from staffers and Union reps at the Screen Actors Guild.

The party is over as far as I am concerned.

Of course, the attitude was always thick over there on Wilshire Boulevard.

The suits thought their sh** didn't stink, alright.

And, the individuals hired (and elected) to do the bidding for Guild Members, were not only slow in delivering once they stood at the plate, but downright rude and insulting to the membership when they encountered any criticism back.

Just this past year - during the toughest contract negotiations with the Producers to date - the truth rang out loud and clear.

Screen Actors Guild reps were only interested in saving their own butts and at any cost.

Unfortunately, that selfish (misguided) approach split the Guild in two - and ultimately - resulted in a total loss of faith in the SAG, the negotiating teams, and the powers-that-be (the executive leadership & paid employees hired to run day-to-day affairs).

Thumbing your nose at a producer, or a powerful movie studio, is generally not a good idea in
uncertain times.

Nor does it bode well to mistreat and/or ignore the wishes of a Guild Membership.

For example, this past week it came to my attention that a member - who mailed in a dues payment for $50.00 - was ousted from the Guild because of an oversight over a paltry $8.00 shortfall.

The mind-boggling disgusting scenario went down something like this.

The member mailed in a check for $50.00 to ensure membership was not suspended for failure to pay the required fees due every six months.

Imagine that!

Approximately one month later, SAG returned the lone check (in spite of the fact it was good) uncashed with a note informing the startled actor that because there was a shortfall of eight dollars (he should have written a check in the sum of $58.00 to meet the current obligation), the Guild proceeded to cancel membership without further notice.

This is a example of the kind of dim-witted, mean-spirited - unjust - guild action that goes down at the Screen Actors daily with nary a concern about the livelihood of the member in question - or even their feelings - for that matter.

If there was a mere shortfall of eight lousy bucks, surely there were sufficient grounds to overlook the shortfall, apply the payment, and allow the member to remain in good stead.

If that was not the case, as a matter of form, shouldn't a staff member have contacted the individual about the problem, so the balance could be paid without the necessity of such severe (outrageous) action on the part of the Guild?

Isn't that what professionalism is all about?

In view of the fact the individual in question was a member in good standing for twenty years, it shocks the sensibilities to learn that SAG would act in such a barbaric disgusting fashion!

At a time when the economy is bad (and actors are out of work due to budget restraints, a slow down in production, and run-a-way filming out-of-state) surely the Guild should be trying to show a little compassion (and mercy) on its unemployed members who are struggling to eat and keep a roof over their heads.

In recent months, SAG lowered the boom on SAG actors who chose to go on "honorary withdrawal" from the Guild, as well.

In spite of the fact a member may have done so due to financial hardship, or pressing family commitments, SAG now requires that an actor face a sort-of "inquisition" (to ensure their leave of absence was innocent and devoid of any political motivation) before membership will be reinstated after a"court" finding that establishes merit to the petition.

Huh!

SAG is supposed to be a union representing its membership, not a Nazi concentration camp where actors must tow the line, or face a "holocaust".

For the aforementioned reasons, I have decided not to support SAG any longer in their contract negotiations, stand behind their efforts to unionize all productions here and/or across the country, or bother to take it upon myself to enlighten actors about the benefits of a "Union" house.

In fact, I plan to recommend productions go non-union - or better yet - urge actors to start organizing a new Union for performers that will ultimately (i) care about the well-being of the worker (ii) have compassion on a performer's plight when times get financially tough (iii) endeavour to represent the best interests of Union Members and not just the prurient interests of paid employees, managers, and the self-serving contracted Executive Branch.

Amen!

Hugh Jackman...he said what about sex & Americans?

Jackman he-man persona revs up fans!

In response to persistent rumors about his sexuality, Hugh Jackman was inclined to go on record this past week and note in so many eloquent words, that he is not - aw! - gay!

Actually, it is what the buffed heart-throb didn't say, that may have raised a spectre of doubt in a handful of die-hard homoerotically-inspired male fans.

Jackman didn't say he wasn't bisexual!

Oh boy, now the rumor mills will start churning out the dirt, eh?

Yeah, I think like a sneak, I know.

I've heard so much double-talk from Bill Clinton over the years, that I am inclined to be on-the-ready to dissect chest hairs, if necessary.

The debonair leading man (who just recently hosted one the highest-rated Academy Awards shows in recent years) was careful not to ruffle any peacock feathers, though.

On the heels of his public "non-outing", the Australian star was quick to follow-up with a statement sure to keep him out of hot water with gays activists (pansies, too) around the globe.

"There is nothing shameful about it (homosexuality)."

Did he ever give it the old "college try" in the locker-room shower, I wonder?

Hugh (married with children) wasn't a shrinking violet when it came to the subject of the American psyche as it pertained to animal passions (sex).

"The questions about sexuality I find more here in America than anywhere else, because its a big hang-up and defines what people think about themselves and others."

"Its not a big issue in Australia," he added as he swaggered off into the sunset.

What a stud, eh?

Ever been in the sack with a Daddy?

Screen Actors Guild...producers agree to tentative commercial contract!

News from SAG President Allen Rosenberg is that the joint SAG/AFTRA Commercial Contracts Negotiating Committee have reached a tentative agreement with advertisers early this morning in New York City.

In his upbeat e-mail communication, Rosenberg applauded the negotiators.

"I would like to thank and congratulate the hard-working staff members for their unity and collaboration over the past months, starting with the W & W meetings, and especially during the long 6 weeks of negotiations."

"It is clear that when SAG members work together," he added enthusiastically, "and focus on common goals to benefit actors, that we really can accomplish many things."

More details of the tentative agreement will be released once the Joint SAG/AFTRA Board has met.

Tony Hamilton...actor's meteoric rise to stardom & tragic end!

One day, a casting director gave me a shout and asked if I would mind doubling for an actor for an independent feature, "Mirrors".

In those days, I was a bit of a workaholic and always in need of ready cash, so I jotted down the location address and dashed out the door full of vim and vigor.

As I was signing in with the assistant director, a breathtakingly handsome actor appeared at my right and strode confidently across the sound stage towards us.

"Tony, this is Julian. He'll be your double today."

We subtly sized each other up, then settled in for the task at hand.

Although location shoots may be adrenalin-boosting on occasion, this shoot proved to be somewhat draining; so, when I was wrapped early in the evening I was out the door before the ink was barely dry on my pay voucher.

Tony was still on the set rehearsing for the martini shot.

Shortly after that gig, I occasionally bumped into Tony (Hamilton) after hours on the night-club party circuit in West Hollywood.

He cut a fine swath around town, in his black 450SL Mercedes Benz convertible, as he hotly pursued his career (and addiction to sex) with lusty carefree abandon.

Hamilton was born in Liverpool and grew up on a sheep farm in Australia.

Fate appeared to nudge him into the dance arena - in part due to the fact - a significant portion of the curriculum at the schools he attended (Scotch College & Adelaide) was focused on Ballet.

In fact, The Australian Ballet Company welcomed him into their fold after his formal training was complete and auditions established that he had not only a dramatic flair, but was blessed with a unique talent for dance.

During one performance in 1972, a fashion photographer noticed how photogenic he was, and offered him a career opportunity in modelling.

Tony quickly booked assignments in America, Europe, and Asia.

Richard Avedon bowed at his feet.

And, he was a favorite of Bruce Weber, a top photographer of the day.

You may have spied Hamilton gracing the pages of Vogue and GQ during his golden years, delivering up delicious fashion statements by the likes of visionary superstars such as designer Gianni Versace.

I was driving in hectic rush-hour traffic one day when there was a news flash on the radio.

According to the News Anchor, Jon Erik Hexum - a co-star on the popular action-adventure TV series "Cover-Up" - was toying with a prop on the set and shot himself accidentally in the head.

Hexum is pictured at the right.

The wound proved to be fatal.

In the wake of the tragedy, Tony was plucked from relative obscurity to step into Hexum's role.

Suddenly, Hamilton was thrust into the spotlight - and as a result - his star rose quickly.

Tony was particularly well-known for his perfect pecs, startlingly handsome face, and a steady gaze that could melt the hardest of hearts.

What a hunk!

As it turned out, Tony worked out at the same gym as I did, the Athletic Club.

The privatelly-owned hang-out for serious body-builders was a hop-and-a-skip down the street from the infamous Sports Erection - excuse me - Sports Connection.

One day, I dashed into the change room, tore off my clothes, and started to head for the showers.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spied Tony standing in the shadows, packing up his gym bag.

What a shock!

In the half-light, I noticed right away that Tony's face had a gaunt-like appearance, and that his body appeared to be startlingly thin.

I tried to conceal my first thought, but judging from Tony's all-knowing glance, he knew right away that I was clued in.

The tell-tale physical signs indicated he was obviously in advanced stages of the disease.

My heart sank!

Within a few weeks, the rumor-mill started up.

Within a short span of time, industry-insiders were keenly aware of his troubling medical problem.

Unfortunately, in those days - the 3-drug combo known as the "cocktail" which is used today to effectively combat the disease (and keep it at bay) - had not been developed by A.I.D.S. researchers yet.

When the word got out, casting directors stopped calling him for interviews - and producers and studio executives who once sang his praises - shunned him.

The news of the A.I.D.S. epidemic was just breaking in the media around the country and the hysteria had risen to a fever pitch.

Loved ones - even nurses and health-care professionals - were afraid to touch an A.I.D.S. patient for fear of catching the dreaded killer virus themselves.

The ignorance running rampant was astounding!

Sadly, Tony passed to spirit in 1995, after a bout of A.I.D.S. related pneumonia.

This evening when I was researching a few facts about his childhood years, I was quite taken aback to learn that Tony and I were both born the same year (1952).

Astoundingly, his birthday was May 4th, two days earlier than my own on May 6th.

Star-crossed lovers?

I'll always remember two things about Tony.

His stunning masculine beauty and his gentle loving spirit.

Who could ask for anything more?

The Oscars...Hugh Jackman danced his little butt off! The new James Bond???

As usual, critics grumbled and moaned about the quality (or lack thereof) of the 81st Annual Oscar Celebration in Tinsel town.

"Too long," many chided below the klieg lights at the Kodak.

One too many misguided cerebral moments, in my estimation.

In fact, the on-going proliferation of mind-boggling altruistic speeches from teary-eyed guests was enough to make me throw up, at one point!

Pottie-break!

But, Hugh Jackman scored an A+ for giving it the old college try.

The Aussie showman danced and sang his little heart out (to a captivated audience) and has the tight butt cheeks to prove it!

See 'ya next year, Hugh!

Unless the Academy chooses to go in a fresh direction - i.e. - with the new flavor of the month.

That's show biz!

The Oscars...Hugh Jackman & Beyonce to tête-à-tête! Zak Efron saunters on stage...

Fasten your seat belts, you're in for a bumpy ride tonight!

The rumor around the town the past few days is that Oscar producers have been trying to keep the identities of celebrity presenters and stage performers under wraps so that their glitzy walk-ons will be a surprise to viewers when they tune in on Sunday night.

But, this is Tinsel Town - after all - and the walls have Obama-sized ears!

In addition to hosting the little Gold man's big bash this year, hunky stud Hugh Jackman is allegedly slated to trip-the-light-fantastic under the flood lights with pop chanteuse Beyonce!

And, with the specific aim of rustling up nubile young blood in a bold-faced effort to boost ratings among the teeny-bopper set this year, the producers have hired on Zak Efron and Amanda Garrett (High School Musical) to showcase a catchy ditty or two at the 81st Annual Awards Show.

An insider whispered in my ear there will be close-up shots of the heart-throb's sensual eyebrows.

They're not waxed, 'ya know!

Mamma Mia stars will warble an upbeat tune or two, too.

Yup, quite a few in-the-closet dancing Queens in the audience in at the Kodak, will be tapping a foot or two when the musical hits ratchet up the night's festivities.

Who knows, maybe Pierce Bronson will toss in the Bond tuxedo image and squeeze into spandex pants and silk shirt, and twirl a tad with Meryl Streep in the wings.

One thing is for sure, though.

A well-trained actor or two will get all tongue-tied on stage come acceptance-speech time (and summarily make a fool of his-self) and jokes that writers half-expected to gag viewers will undoubtedly fall flat as Jamie Curtis' chest.

But, if die-hard Academy Awards fans are lucky - there may be a wardrobe malfunction or two - to keep the gossip-mills generating hot air balloons around the blogosphere for months on end.

Even so, at the end of the no-tinsel-unturned 3 1/2 hour show, Oscar devotees will be switching off their flat wide-screen high-definition sets, and wondering aloud.

Is that all there is?

'Til next year, anyhoo!

Hugh babe, ready for 'ya!

Elizabeth Liang...uses strong-arm tactics & harassment to force press to use publicity materials & coerce good reviews!

When "All About Eve" first flickered up on the big screen decades ago, the back-stabbing high-stakes world of show business - and the theatre, in particular - became known to stage buffs near and far as a treacherous haven for bruised egos, badly-behaving Divas, and unscrupulous gold-digging glory hogs grasping for the brass ring in Hollywood.

Well, they surely lurk in the shadows at the Chalk Repertory Theatre company in my experience, at-the-ready to bite the hand that feeds 'em, and try their hand at playing Brutus!

Oh, what a classless troupe of nasty bast**ds!

For example, a few weeks ago I penned a couple of upbeat posts for the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to promote theatrical events at the staid Hollywood memorial park.

Shortly thereafter, one of the managers in charge of the resting place for a handful of Hollywood notables - Tyrone Power and Rudolph Valentino, for instance - zipped off a press release to notify me that a space renovated on the grounds - the Masonic Lodge - was going to house a new troupe to be henceforth known as the Chalk Repertory Theatre Company.

I was invited to attend a launch party where the "founding mothers" proceeded to gleefully toast guests and announce their first production of the season.

The staging of 3 Sisters by Anton Chekhov was going to be a unique theatrical experience, they promised!

Since I am always interested in promoting local Theatre Groups, Movie Houses down-on-their-luck, and other community-related events that warrant good press, I penned a beautiful post to help their project along and bring it to the attention of my readers.

When I attended the premiere, however, I was disappointed.

In fact, the production was so amateurish, that I was inclined to be kind and forgo on writing a review.

Then, something odd occurred.

Out-of-the-blue, a woman by the name of Elizabeth Liang contacted me by e-mail, made some wild allegations, and then proceeded to demand that I make edits to my promo post (which I found not only inappropriate, but unethical, and downright annoying).

In response, I politely informed the hair-brained twit, that I was not in the habit of handing the reins of editorial control over to any third party and rejected her menacing overtures.

At this point, the woman went off-the-handle and made a series of threats, so I blocked all future incoming e-mail communications.

In retrospect it appears that she was in "league" with the Chalk Repertory Theatre troupe who were not happy with the promo post because I did not facilitate the use of publicity materials provided by their PR person.

Tough ti**y.

Once it was evident that I would not budge, Ms. Liang and actors at the Chalk Rep troupe hatched up a twisted plot to undermine the blog post, force their will - and ultimately - try to damage my name and reputation with third parties.

On the premise that I was utilizing materials I was not entitled to for 3 Sisters, Liang and her red-neck ruffians, contacted Wordpress and made a number of false and misleading statements to turn the blog spot against me.

Unfortunately, the gentleman they contacted (Mark, who preferred not to provide a last name) didn't have much of an IQ and was unfamiliar with State & Federal Laws pertaining to the matters at issue.

Subsequently, he lamely jumped into the fray without checking the facts and proceeded to Violate my Rights and engage in wrongful illegal conduct, all to my damage.

In response, I zipped off an e-mail citing applicable laws (and arguments in support), and chastised him for engaging in such reprehensible irresponsible conduct that was in Violation of my rights.

At this juncture, "Mark" made some bald-faced claims - which sounded preposterous to me - and actually tried to throw the blame on an agency he claimed was basically above-the-law that he was bound to legally kow-tow to.

Needless to say, he whined in his e-mail that unless he took action he'd have to face liability.

Ha!

Within twenty-four hours, by virtue of his own conflicting statements and actions - and bolstered by incriminating evidence that was piling up the minute in my corner - I managed to establish that the silly moron misrepresented the facts and engaged in deceitful and dishonest conduct - and a nasty cover-up - to avoid blame for his wrongful illegal conduct at Wordpress.

I also pointed out for the record, that if what he said were true, I would have to take appropriate legal action to correct the obvious wrong.

After all, if something is broke - an intelligent individual doesn't ignore the problem - they try to fix it.

Of course, shrinking violets like Mark - without any ba**s to speak of - would prefer to just wimp out!

Notwithstanding the aforementioned, it was also obvious to me when the WordPress employee failed to provide vital information I requested that I was legally entitled to, that he was handing me a heapload of bullsh**.

Also, Mark openly and actively engaged in an ongoing conspiracy when he contacted the troupe at Chalk Repertory Theatre behind my back, and thereafter, secretly proceeded to do their bidding.

Once I put two and two together - and came up with skulduggery - I sent an e mail to Ms. Liang and advised her in no uncertain terms that if she continued to slander, libel, or defame me, I would sue for damages.

I also enlightened her to another serious reality.

Her conduct over the stretch of a few days amounted to threats and harassment; in view of this, I vowed to Ms. Liang that if she did not cease and desist, I would file a criminal complaint against her with Law Enforcement.

Then, something curious happened.

I began to receive a series of annoying anonymous e-mails as unknown individuals engaged in rapid-fire attempts to publish posts on my blog site in support of Liang and the theatre company.

From the nature of the content, it was obvious to any fool, who put the scurrilous individuals up to their outrageous disturbing conduct.

But, one message was the tip off.

In that communication, I was informed (again by an anonymous coward) that as long as there were good reviews of the production, no one would mind my use of the material originally objected to.

A-ha!

They were trying to coerce me into penning a glowing review!

I expect the evidence in my possession (saved for future reference) is sufficient to bring a criminal action against the parties on charges of coercion, implied threats, and attempted extortion.

After all, I do not respond well to threats, harassment, and intimidation tactics.

Needless to say, in view of the circumstances, I penned a review.

I don't expect it was the one Chalk Repertory Theatre was pining for, though!

Obviously, when you consider a comment an anonymous scoundrel tried to publish the afternoon the stinko run-down of their production was posted on my blog.

"You're a meanie," they lamented.

Ah, the Chalk Rep Theatre troupe and Ms. Liang don't know the half of it.
They fu**ed with the wrong person!

In view of what transpired over the past few days with demented Chalk Rep Theatre actors - and the diabolical Ms. Liang - I am inclined to refer to the production with a title that is more apropros under the circumstances.

3 C**ts, for instance.

To paraphrase a line from the musical Chicago:

"They had it coming."

Screen Actors Guild...Rosenberg lawsuit rejected by Court. Power-plays continue...

Superior Court Judge tells Rosenberg no deal!

A monkey wrench SAG President Alan Rosenberg threw into pending SAG contract talks with producers was tossed back into his lap today by a Superior Court Judge.

Alan Rosenberg (SAG Guild President) and Anne-Marie Johnson (Guild 1st Vice President) filed a lawsuit against SAG this past week, seeking to reinstate Doug Allen (who was relieved of his duties as the Union's Chief negotiator) and to reconstitute the Guild's former negotiating committee.

The SAG board fired Allen last month on the grounds that he was mishandling negotiations with the studios.

Former SAG General Counsel David White was installed in Allen's place and is currently acting as interim Executive Director alongside John McGuire who was named the Union's new chief negotiator.

On the heels of the controversial White/McGuire power-play, the SAG board also disbanded the Union's negotiating committee (dominated by Allen's supporters) and appointed a new task force in their place.

According to Alan Rosenberg and his supporters, the move was not only "unwarranted" but "undemocratic" in nature.

To many Guild Members, ousting Doug Allen and the negotiating team amounted to "written assent" - which they allege - violated the California's Corporate Code.

Hence, the lawsuit to nullify the ousting of Allen and the negotiating team.

Talks with producers were scheduled to continue this week, but were suddenly halted due to the unexpected legal proceeding.

Attorneys for SAG appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court this morning to respond to the Plaintiffs' lawsuit.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Court found that the lawsuit was procedurally defective and refused to issue an injunction requested by the Plaintiffs.

In response, Plaintiffs’ counsel stated their intention to amend their documents and resubmit the paperwork for further review by a Superior Court Judge on Thursday, February 5th (2009).

The Guild and its attorneys have vowed to attend the court hearing and present a vigorous defense.

David White, acting interim Executive Director of the Guild, fired off an e-mail to me this evening in which he underscored the importance of continuing talks with producers as quickly as possible so that a fair contract may be negotiated for SAG members.

Once the legal issues are resolved, that is wholly possible.

In the meantime, the Guild will continue to work in the service of its members, with focus, dedication and commitment," White concluded confidently.

Brad Pitt...embarrassing lost interview. Ouch!

Brad just might make my worst-dressed list to be unveiled Feb 1st!

On the eve of the release of - "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - Showbiz Tonight (a News Magazine show) dragged out an old clip of Brad Pitt waxing philosophical about his acting aspirations and the vagaries of fortune and fame.

Oh my gosh - what an embarrassing ten minutes-or-so on celluloid - for the once-studly young romantic leading man!

Sporting a pair of ubiquitous horn-rimmed glasses (Poindexters), and a dippity-do haircut, the heart-throb's hands consistently flapped in the breeze, as he elucidated (!) his thoughts in a whispy faggy little voice, sure to have raised eyebrows in living-rooms around the country.

On a couple of occasions in the conversation, the then-wimpy actor used a dated hand expression - pronounced quotation marks in mid-air - to get points across to the host.

But frankly, the boy wonder looked positively silly, as he rambled on in a most disconcerting way.

Even the host poked fun at the elusive star after the segment was broadcast to viewers.

When the spot wrapped, I even shook my head in disbelief.

How did Pitt ever end up on the road to stardom in view of the silly-as-a-goose persona that he once projected in those heady days of his naive youth?

Well, you know what they say!

It's who you blow - not what you know - eh?

A tip for you Brad.

Gobble up all the copies, pronto!

And, burn before screening, too!

Brad, buttons pulling at the vest are a fashion no-no!

Actors...ALAP (Playwright Group) seeks performers for readings and workshops!

The Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights is seeking actors to perform in play readings, workshops, and full productions.

In order to be considered for an audition, interested performers are invited to sign up at the ALAP database so that playwrights will be able to browse head shots and resumes to locate suitable thespians for upcoming projects.

Signing up for the ALAP database is free!

Before cruising over to their web site to participate, it is important to note that ALAP requests that all those who sign up act professionally at all times and fulfill all agreed-upon obligations.

For instance, in the event an actor needs to withdraw for any reason (due to a work assignment or an unexpected family obligation) ALAP requests that individuals do so in a responsible way by giving the playwright sufficient time to recast.

Contact information provided to the stage writers will not be shared with non-ALAP members without an actor's consent.

Jon Voight...stick to acting. Political promos diminish stature!

She can fondle my pistol any day...

There's nothing worse than an actor playing off his high-profile in the media - attained by virtue of an illustrious film or TV acting career - to tout a particular candidate in the political arena.

Yes, the American filmgoer may pine for an actor's face on the silver screen - but when it comes to the Nation's business - they'd prefer the hack not ham it up on the political stage.

In spite of this, Jon Voight gave leave to his senses this past week and jumped into the political fray in support of the controversial big-time loser - Sarah Palin.

In a recent sound bite to the media, Jon's diarrhea of the mouth was quite an embarrassing gaffe to witness.

"I was so deeply moved to see her."

Say what?

Angelina Jolie's dad gushed like he just encountered the second coming of Christ.

Jon, that role has been cast.

Save that response for the "One" - Barack Obama - please!

But, not to get off track!

Jon Voight has been long respected for his acting chops.

And, I might add, for his ability to maneuver himself through the pitfalls and landmines that most pin-head actors generally stumble through.

But, his recent decision to support Palin, is a ludicrous notion at best.

The nation hardly knows the woman - who was sprung on the country in a breathless political merry-go-round in recent days - a virtual unknown.

In spite of the obvious, Voight is spouting off such wild tripe.

"She's the new star we're looking for," he excitedly chirped to just about anyone within earshot.

Oh, going to sign her to a Hollywood contract, are 'ya - Jon?

At times, he sounded like a damn groupie.

"Absolutely amazing and wonderful."

Well, what do you expect from an actor, who requires a well-crafted script in order to elucidate a coherent phrase or two?

By the way, did the midnight cowboy surmise all that at the drop of a handshake?

Jon, you're full of crap!

Then, the shameless egomaniac proceeded to take a swipe at his fellow actors for voting the "other way".

"In terms of politics they've (actors) been influenced by the political forces of the 60's, by Marxists. I understand how they are being programmed. They have to be awakened."

Gosh, he sounds like a Jonestown zombie, doesn't he?

Heh, Jon, YOU get with the program.

You're popular, and in the limelight, because fans are impressed with your acting!

But - no one wants to hear what a two-bit actor has to say about Sarah Palin - especially when all the intellectuals and pundits and experts in the political arena have already expounded on the subject - and more succinctly so.

Time to burn the Voight DVD's.

The man is a menace to the entertainment community.

Jon Voight to produce "Motorcycle Moms" starring Palin...

Colin Farrell...porn footage on web site incites actor's ire!

Colin wears flesh tone and tats well...

According to a writer who pens a "tell-all" society column for one of the local gay publications (IN Magazine), Colin Farrell's attorney demanded that a video featuring titillating porn footage of the superstar actor be removed from the site.

Pronto!

In response, the journalist wondered aloud if the legal eagle's request wasn't a little off-base.

After all, he quipped, Farrell's performance on-camera was his best yet!

Apparently, the sexy thespian does a bang-up job between the sheets.

I've never known the columnist to be untruthful, so I expect his account of the events is correct.

From a legal standpoint - in my estimation - the scenario would hinge on the origins of the video, who owned the rights, how the webmaster got his little hands on it, and so forth and so on.

Stay tuned for updates, if any!

Sexy actor wears clothes well, too...
