Leonardo DiCaprio...highest paid heartthrob! Funny doesn't equate to $$$ for Adam Sandler!

If you read between-the-lines of the latest Forbes Magazine report on the subject of the highest-paid actors in the lofty realm of feature films, it should be evident that funny does not always equate to money!

For example, Adam Sandler - a perennial favorite of the comedy genre - lagged behind two studly box-office stars more inclined to go the heartthrob route.

Leonardo DiCaprio broke stride this year, in fact, and ended up best rewarded for his acting chops to the tune of $77 million.

Just betcha, he was laughing all the way to the bank, when he shouted to runner-up actor Johnny Depp:

"Catch me if you can!"

Well, Johnny-boy can probably point an accusing finger at "The Tourist" for tarnishing his once-stellar career record at the local movie theatre, for starters.

But, the big-budget fiasco didn't appear to put a dent in Angelina Jolie's film prospects, on the other hand.

Word is that Ms. Jolie is prepping for a remake of "Cleopatra" - a much-anticipated acting challenge - which should rustle up even bigger bucks for one of the world's most-beautiful women.

I wouldn't kick Angie out-of-bed for eating crackers, you betcha!

Brad better remain attentively by the sultry siren's side (may I peel 'ya a grape, dahlink?) while she's on location - after all - you know what happened when Elizabeth Taylor took on the role with a handsome young stud in the lead of Mark Anthony in the romantic environs of Rome.

Uh-huh!

The International scandal that followed - not only broke up her marriage to Eddie Fisher - but caused Ms. Taylor to be denounced by the Pope!

News at 11!

Hollywood Legends...Marilyn Monroe & Lady Diana items sold at auction! Free public exhibition! Live & Online Auction!

If you're a film buff hankering to snatch up a rare publicity still of a Hollywood screen legend - then a dazzling exhibition on display this week at Julien's Auctions (no relation to moi except I admit he does follow me on Twitter!) - may be your cup of tea!

On the heels of the unveiling - May 7th thru May 8th - collectors will have the opportunity to bid for the precious treasures either in person or online at the auctioneer's web site.

The collection includes one-of-kind photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Lucille Ball, Gloria Swanson, and Marion Davies.

The exhibit is timely, too, when you consider that Lady Diana memorabilia will be up for grabs in the wake of the much-ballyhooed Royal Wedding of son Willis.

Yes, the Duke of Cambridge, silly!

Select offerings include private correspondence Marlene Dietrich dispatched to her husband - and a collection of  letters, scripts, and clothing - owned by Lucille Ball (the Queen of Comedy).

The auctioneers will bring down the gavel on a stunning necklace worn by Angelina Jolie to the premiere of one of her many  memorable films ("Salt").

Proceeds from the exquisite piece of jewellery will be donated to one of Ms. Jolie's charities known as:

"The Educational Partnership for Children in Conflict"

Gosh, sounds like my crumby childhood!

When do I ge the check, Angelina?

Of course, what would a Hollywood Legends auction be, without a poignant souvenir or two from the estate of Marilyn Monroe?

Two of Lady Diana's chic elegant gowns are also being offered up for sale by a business concern known as the "Wedding Channel".

At press time, it was announced the proceeds will be donated to a charitable organization also.
In addition to the aforementoned glam items, there will also be a smattering of science fiction props from the NBC hit series Heroes and the Cape.

In addition to the Sci-Fi collection, there will be momentos from the blockbuster Hollywood feature -  "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" - costumes worn by the cast of Serenity, and rarely-sold odds-and-ends from the Indiana Jones franchise.

Heh, I want that hat, Harrison!

Norman Rockwell staging photographs are also being sold replete with copyright.

The original vintage stills feature legendary performers Frank Sinatra, Ann-Margret, and Bing Crosby.

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards...Host Ricky Gervais insults top brass! Angelina Jolie shimmered!

High-end designer gowns shimmered in the exotic environs of the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel below the setting sun, the heads of ecstatic fans turned this way 'n that as a bevy of bodacious babes sashayed down the red carpet with handsome escorts on their arms in the rarefied air just beyond reach, and a posse of media types hovered nearby begging for a photo opportunity like moths to flame.

Uh-huh.

The 68th Annual Hollywood Foreign Press Association Awards were underway.

"The Press Awards are like a cool party in an upscale steak house, " cooed popular late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon as he alighted on the red carpet for the dazzling festivities.

Indeed!

"It's all about the par-tay," another hip guest astutely quipped to camera on the frenzied sidelines.

Needless to say, once the show under the big top was in full swing, there were a number of awkward - some say disturbing - displays of bad behaviour.

I am reminded of an old Chinese Proverb.

"Never insult a host in his own home."

For some inexplicable reason, quirky Ricky Gervais threw caution to the wind, in that regard.

Witin minutes of strolling onto the stage to launch the much-anticipated ritzy event - the stand-up comic got caught up into a nasty undertow - that threatened to derail the otherwise fun and festive footloose soiree that beckoned ahead.

"There's alot of partying & drinking going on. Or, as Charlie Sheen would say, breakfast," Gervais chortled as the momentum started to build early on.

To quote a line from the musical "Chicago":

"He (Charlie) had it coming!"

You betcha!

The suits were not off-limits to his potshots, either.

One unkind remark - that focused on a head honcho at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association caused an uproar to erupt in the otherwise well-mannered audience below the footlights - for instance.

"I just lifted his head out of the toilet. And, helped pop his bridge back in his mouth," naughty Gervais guffawed with glee in reference to the top dog at the HFPA.

The power-player was inclined to  respond-in-kind when it was his turn at the mic.

"Ricky, next time you want a project okayed for the Foreign Press, go elsewhere," he snarled.

A loud moan circulated the room.

Talk about instant karma, eh?

In fact - some of the barbs were so vicious (mean-spirited was the way one actor characterized the in-your-face insults)  - that some speculated Ricky's sorry a** had been fired off the show when he disappeared for an hour-or-so during the course of the evening.

Did the slimeball funnyman get called up on the carpet by the top brass?

Gervais didn't get off the hook for his unkind remarks, that's for sure, judging by his red-faced appearance later on stage.

Boy, would I like to have been a fly on-the-wall during that bull session!

Needless to say, a couple of fellow performers were inclined to jump into the fray, and toss a couple of barbs the upstart's way.

"We knew Ricky when he was chubby and funny. Now he isn't," barked Tim Allen to all within earshot.

There was a lot of Monday morning quarter-backing around water-coolers the following day, I expect.

Headlines around the country screamed out a thought on the minds of the bemused teaming masses everywhere.

Will Gervais be invited back next year to host the popular awards show?

But the whole night wasn't a downer in spite of Gervais.

For example, Michael Douglas managed to rustle up a hearty welcome by virtue of his mere presence.

After he trotted up to the stage, the audience jumped to their feet, and applauded the seasoned pro - in part - because he just licked the big "C".

"I wish there was an easier way to get a standing ovation," he joked.

The night was not totally devoid of class or style, though.

Angelina Jolie wowed fans in an emerald green gown which flattered her luscious bod, Justin Bieber sported a chic tuxedo that sparked up his image a tad, and Natalie Portman strutted down the fashion gauntlet with a carefree style (which underscored the Black Swan's star is definitely on the rise).

And, beneath the tinsel?

A heckuva lot more tinsel!

'Til next year!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominees, bright and early at the crack of dawn this morning, with Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes and Blair Underwood on hand to do the honors.

The coveted prize honors choice stand-out work in the medium-rich arenas of both film & television.

Nominees in the Best Motion Picture-Drama category were noteworthy and included:

"The Fighter", "Black Swan," "Inception," "The King's Speech" and "The Social Network"

Nods also went to "Red", "Alice in Wonderland," "Burlesque," "The Kids Are All Right," and "The Tourist" in the ever-popular category of  Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical.

"The King's Speech" - starring Colin Firth - earned a staggering seven nominations (beating out all the competition this year).

Highly-rated "Glee" also faired well with a bevy of noms, too (five in total).

Best nods for Television Series-Drama went to "Boardwalk Empire," "Dexter," "The Good Wife," "Mad Men" and "The Walking Dead".

In the highly-competitive realm of  - Best Television Series-Comedy or Musical -"30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory," "The Big C," "Glee," "Modern Family" and "Nurse Jackie" won out.

"I See the Light," a tune from the animated film "Tangled", was one of a handful of tunes selected for Best Original Song-Motion Picture score (Alan Menken & Glenn Slater musical artists).

Other catchy tunes were also nominated - such as - "Bound to You" ("Burlesque"), "Coming Home" ("Country Song"), "There's a Place for Us" ("Chronicles of Narnia") and "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" ("Burlesque").

Ricky Gervais will host the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards at a splashy red-carpet affair on January 16th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Tourist...Angelina Jolie's sensuality steals flick! A critical miss, though!

One of my favorite films is "The Lives of Others" which was helmed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who won an Oscar for best foreign film for directing.

Once the coveted academy award was under his belt, Donnersmarck began to field scripts that started to flood in after that phenomenal success, or so the rumor goes.

After careful consideration, the European auteur gave the nod to "The Tourist" for his next project for some inexplicable reason.

Odd, when one considers that the script was poorly-written from the get-go!

If Donnersmarck was seeking to establish himself in the big leagues of Hollywood, the film - a critical miss - must have been an obvious choice (on the other hand).

Of course, the golden opportunity to work with two megastars - Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp - must have been the bait that cinched the deal.

When it comes to subject matter, it is obvious that the director didn't stray too far from his roots or familiar territory (the realms of intrigue, espionage, and surveillance) when scenes from "Lives of Others" (though more modest and realistic in scope in their context in the celebrated little flick) spring to the forefront of a film buff's mind.

With "The Tourist", Donnersmarck was able to facilitate a broader strokes on a wider lusher canvas with - in large part due to the backing of a major studio - which bootstrapped the director financially with the specific aim of launching a mainstream big-budget celluloid offering ripe for public consumption.

The plot is so unplausible that it is laughable.

Once the audience recognizes that, it is best they just settle in, and go along for the entertaining ride.
Angelina Jolie is in her element here in a role that exalts her classy sensual appeal to the max.

In fact, in the final analysis, Brad's wife may walk away from the Tourist - not only unharmed - but celebrated as one of the world's most beautiful women (a title that served screen legend Elizabeth Taylor well).

Think "Cleopatra".

I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, that's for sure!

Though a fiasco - and a probable box-office-bomb - Donnersmarck's puff piece may end up catapulting Jolie onto a pedestal - where she'll become one of the untouchables - as far as celebrity and film greatness go.

Allegedly, the director held extensive production meetings with the wardrobe department, to get Jolie's "look" just right.

In addition, there was a big focus on light and make-up to ensure that the character's fashion sense (and style) were fleshed out so that her role of International Jet-Setter was believable.

My keen eye spied ghastly folds and creases in a "starring" couture piece in the opening scenes, though.

The "gown' was nothing more a thrown-together smock - draped miserably this way 'n that about her nubile figure - and lightyears away from any exquisite designer frock.

In one scene, when a camera pans in on Ms. Jolie's "butt" - so that actors portraying "agents" can get an up-close look at one of her striking assets - puckers and unsightly fabric snafus grabbed the spotlight instead of Jolie's celebrated "ass".

A red sash was totally out of place, as well.

But what really floored me were some shoddy production values which were totally unacceptable.

For instance, in the first scene where Angelina's character "speaks" on-camera, there is no volume to speak of; in fact, the dialogue sounds like a poorly edited "voice over".

Shortly thereafter, the problem resolved itself, so I have to speculate that after the film wrapped the scene needed a patch job in order to carry some weight at the beginning of the flick.

Unprofessional, to say the least!

For the most part, Jolie's scenes were as slick and and glossy as the expensive lipstick that adorned her luscious lips!

In contrast, Johnny Depp's face was pasty and puffy-looking, and out-of-place in a film where all the character's faces were animated and flush with color and vibrant good health.

Depp, in the final analysis, lacks the kind of - big-screen persona, male presence, and acting muscle = to pull this role off.

In fact, more often-than-not, Mr. Depp gets lost in the pricey furniture competing for the audience's attention.

On Dave Letterman recently, the actor blurted out that he hated his role on 21 Jump Street, a youth-oriented action-adventure series shot in Vancouver (Canada) years ago in the early days of his career.

In spite of that, the popular thespian managed to fit the "star vehicle" - and consequently - the show launched his career into the stratosphere.

"The Tourist" underscores how tenuous his future may be in the Hollywood genre produced here.

The film gets 3 stars for eye-candy!

Brangelina...did sensual Jolie cheat on Inglourious Basterd Ptt? Eye-witnesses say...

Skanky is as skanky does!

Brad's spanking-new Facebook
(come hither look)

A doorman barred the entrance, but eagle-eyed blood-hounds (who managed to get a glimpse through a half-cracked bedroom door) were titillated by the sight nonetheless.

A multitude of perfumed blossoms scattered at random about the softly-lit environs of the romantic get-a-way - alongside slightly-soiled hand towels - was a tip-off to scandal mongers scrounging around for clues.

Ever-sensual Jolie in a passionate clinch with a handsome lover with the sexiest man alive nowhere in sight.

Selfish bit**!

The sexed-up starlett could have at least gone menage-a-trois, for Brad's sake,  eh?

Out-of-sight - out-of-mind - I expect!

The nasty rumors were streaking like lightning across the Internet, but publicists vehemently denied the allegations.

"Simply not true."

In a week where Johnny Depp was being pronounced dead - though very much alive - die-hard (mostly hard) fans of the winsome-twosome were willing to concede that the rumor mill was out of whack on this delicious dirt.

But, the loose lips and juicy tattling, persisted.

So, a  source of a source, took a flying leap.

And, may have struck tabloid gold!

It was reported in dailies around the country at the crack of dawn, for instance, that Brad was in the throes of purchasing a bachelor pad in the Hollywood Hills.

Without a zip  in WeHo - looks like rumors of the "jumping ship" kind - won't make it out of the gate.

"He needs somewhere quiet that doesn't have memories of Angie, and where he can be alone, and think about what (whom) he does next."

The front door (or back door, for that matter) is wide open at my digs!

Provided, I'm allowed to saunter out on party nights with a few of your kewl threads on my back, guaranteed to beef up my own silhouette.

Kidding!

No word from the Jolie camp, but something tells me she's crying the blues, you betcha.

Getting caught with a  male sl**'s di** caught in your honeypot is strictly taboo.

Pretty soon the rags will be screaming out tawdry headlines drawing attention to the fact.

"Jolie a skanky sleep-around cheat"

Ouch!

Julian Ayrs 2nd Annual Worst (& Best) Dressed Women! Cher, Sarah Palin, and Lady Gaga in special category...

Mr. Blackwell infamous for fashion haikus

Last year, when Obama was triapsing about on the campaign trail - vigorously purusing the role of Commander-in-Chief - I penned a post with a handful of fashion tips so the upstart from Chicago would cut a fine sartorial path for potential supporters.

Post:  06/05/08

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/06/barack-obamafashion-tips-for-stylish.html

A blogger stumbled across the fahion spread, and hinted to his readers, that I just might be the next fashion wit, Mr. Blackwell.

Blackwell - formerly a well-respected fashion designer - was King of the Haiku quips - so when he passed to spirit last year there was a cavernous tongue-in-check void to fill.

So, I took up the delightful task, and unveiled my 1st Annual Worst & Best-Dressed lists for Women and Men at the end of the year.

Post:  12/28/08

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/12/10-worst-dressed-listcher-oprah-and.html

Post:  01/31/09

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/01/julian-ayrs-1st-annual-worst-dressed.html

Can it really be a year later since the first platform shoe dropped with a thud?

So, now, I tout my 2nd Annual Worst & Best-Dressed list put the spotlight on the ladies, first.

Tomorrow, the 2nd Annual Best & Worst-Dressed list will be published for the man-about-town who curried favor - then again  - just maybe did not!

2nd Annual Best & Worst Dressed Women's list

Angelina Jolie

One of the rare exoic females of the species capable of stutting her stuff  in a body-fitting sheath that smacks of sensuality and undisputed tantalizing fashion appeal!

The undestanted earrings spark up the outfit - and ultimately - add a  touch of understated elegance.

Jolie, is simply a dazzling gem!

Bai Ling

I confess, I have a soft spot in my heart - and fashion musings - for Ms. Ling.

Over the past year, we crossed paths on several auspicious occasions, and became fast friends.

The stunning beauty is a chic clotheshorse - both on the gangway - and off.

In fact, when the talented actress strides out on a press junket to promote a film, the paparazzi go wild;  after all, Bai Ling is an intriging subject who never disappoints in eye-catching designer gowns and cocktail frocks  that underscore her unique signature style and flair for the exotic and unusual.

Sarah Ferguson

In her glory days as the Duchess of York, Miss Ferguson was inclined to sashay over-the-top, all decked out in floppy frothy oversized hats (Hedda Hopper would be proud ) and gowns bogged down with stuffy-old bows and wings and all-manner-of fashion flourishes that went bump in the night.

Ghastly, for the most part.

But, in recent years, the Duchess has nurtured into stylish sensiblity that speaks volumes for her.

At the recent screening of  "Young Victoria" (Producer), I got an up-close personal gander at the perky redhead, who was not only ravishing - but correctly turned out, too - for the occasion.

Hats off to weight-watchers for helping her turn the fashionista corner!

Michelle Obama

Over the past year, 1st Lady Michelle Obma demonstrated a keen fashion sense - especially in respect to the appropriateness of an outfit - while out on public jaunts and on kick-back occasions at home at the White House while holding court.

Oftentimes, casual ensembles were spruced up with pastels,  or subtle fashion flourishes.

At high-profile events, Obama's better-half displayed a flair for a defining look, which was never over-the-top or in your face.

A clothes-horse along the lines of Jackie-O  (in the making).

Barbara Walters

Although the feisty gal - with the gift of gab - is getting on in years,  Walters  doesn't intend to get stuffy, dated, or become an old stick-in-the-mud.

On the recent 10 most -fascinating special, for instance, the likeable hostess-with-the-mostest was gussied up in a tasteful body-fitting gown - and subtle accessories - which not only suited her distinctive facial features but trimmed years off her age.

Always keen on what is socially and politically correct, Walters manages to saunter in-and-of the spotlight in a wardrobe that underscores that a middle-aged woman has many fashion choices given a little thought.

Miley Cyrus

The headlines screamed that the young songbird's  pretty cocktail dress plunged a lttle too low, when she appeared for an audience,  with Queen Elizabeth at a tony Royal Performance.

 Hooey.

The charismatic young beauty was not only a knock-out, but got the nod from this discerning fashionista  on his lofty perch in WeHo.

In fact, in recent days, Miley has been coming into her own in a trend-setting sense, with a maturer style that - ultimately - belies her critics.

It will be curious to see what she conjures up next for red carpet soirees in the future.

Julia Roberts

A perennial favorite who has experienced her share of fashion victimitis over the years, actress Julia Roberts has carved a niche for herself as the down-to-earth girl-next-door who cleans up nicely thank-you very much.

On top of the latest fashion trends, the award-winning actress is inclined to take a stab at fresh couture offerings now and then.

To  many, Ms.Roberts is worth her weight in gold when it comes to bellweather trends and fashion influence.

And, therefore, treads lightly.

She's comfortale and pretty in the classy outfit pictured here, but racey numbers suit her, too.

As versatile on the fashion trail as she is up on the big screen.

Emily Blunt

A fresh-faced beauty - just as comfortable in her skin - when exquisitely trussed up in period wardrobe (Young Victoria) or squeezed into a body-hugging understated cocktail dress sparked up with a dash of stardust.

Pay attention to her lightly-applied make-up, gals, which conjures up a look au naturel that's difficult to hold a candle to.

A star in the galaxy worth keeping an eye on for sure!

Paris Hilton

Last year, the Beverly Hills dish - with undeniable sex appeal - ended up on the worst-dressed list becasue of ensemble choices that underscored she was prone to become a fashion victim ad nauseam..

At the recent premiere of her documentary "Paris" - up-close-and-personal - I was literally dazzled by her charm, elegance, and stand-out style.

You've come a long way, baby!

Katie Couric

Oh, such a darling!

Over the years, Katie has continued to smile sweetly, as network brass transformed her on-camera image from girl-next-door, to conservative newsie and onward to trusted night anchor.

During those topsy-turvey days of bending, shaping, and primping, American TV viewers gobbled her up.

Would the real Katie  step forward, please!

Something tells me, the outfit pictured here, is more along the lines of her own fashion taste; if so, get out the applause soundtrack,

After all, I'm always partial to chic black party dresses and pearls.

But Katie, dear, you need a little coaching with the hands

Ten Worst-Dressed Women
(would you bed any of these inductees)

Amy Winehouse

Is that a banana in your shorts, Amy, or are you just happy to see us?

Fashionista impressions?

The pop star couldn't compete with a West Hollywood Drag Queen on Karaoke night, even after two-or-three drinkie-poohs too many!

Toss that broad some spare change, will 'ya, so she can spring for a sex change!

Cher

Bound and chained more-often-than-not, all the Pop Diva needs is a oil-soaked gag, to deliver up the perfect scintillating image of a slave-mate!

You'd think Cher - who usually pays a lot of attention to Details! Details! Details - would have at least swept up the pube shavings (rear right) before posing for the alluring publicity still.

If a gaggle of fans are lucky, she'll auction 'em off at Caesar's next opening night.

La Toya Jackson

A booby-trap waiting to happen!

And, the perfect poster chick, to warn about the perils of botched botox injections.

Queen Latifa

The porky Diva is a role model for all hefty African-American women with an unwitting taste for the tacky!

In one fell swoop, Latifa underscores a myriad of fashion debacles hot-to-trot single mammas  (packing twenty pounds too many) should avoid to ward off nick-names like "old lard ass" (etc. etc. etc.)

Bottom line?

The popular torch-singer is better off slipping into a free-flowing Kaftan, than the stringy garb cutting into the folds of fat (which don't flatter and tend to contrict her).

Sarah Palin

Palin, fashion innovator (oh, yeah!) first and foremost (unless the clothes are rented by the Republicans)  unveils a clever twist on a once-charming fashion accessory - known to college goodie two-shoes - as the "fur muff"

In the great white north, Palin is inclined to raucously shout out:

Fur's up!

If you pry the former ice Queen for the fashion specifics, she'll sure as heck give 'ya a scrunched up wink, and proudly note matter-of-fact: for the record, that she killed the dumb fur-bearing  with her own handsanimal while donning her Sunday best on the way to Church.

Amen!
Wanda Sykes

Comedian Wanda Sykes is quick on the uptake with rat-a-tat rapid-fire jokes that tickle the funny bone, alright.

But, she's more of a hoot to take a gander at!

In a nutshell, the comic is a ghastly mirror-image of an ovestuffed pheasant with ubiquitous fringe on the top

Don't ruffle her ragged feathers, or she'll make you the butt of a joke in a punch-line, for starters.

Being the butt of talk-show fodde, is in Vogue, though.

Totally, dudes!

Meryl Streep

Obviously, Ms. Streep didn't nab this coveted award for any innate sense of style!

After all, the talented actress is basically a mish-mash of stylish after-rthoughts that end up crying out for sympathy (no encore, please).

Meryl, you're over-the-hill, out-of-the fashion loop, and gone-to-seed.!

And, the baubbles?

Toss 'em before swine

No problem!

Oprah Winfrey

A smorgasbord of fashion flourish disasters!

Having gobbled up too much of each, it's obvious, the tell-tale signs of indigestion (and our indignation) has set in.

Style misfires - scooped neck, gaudy buckle, spitting fabric belt - amount to a belly-flop (not the divine swang song) Ms. Piggy was reaching for.

A tidal wave of frump gone awry and on its way to cable hell (and back?).

Good riddance.

Leslie Stahl

A pretty woman plagued by boyish tendencies.

Is Stahl off to audition for the role of a bobbsy-twin playing opposite TV lesbo, Ellen?

Or is she just smitten with the perky talk show host's waif-like persona?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say.

Thin-legged jeans which accent skinny gams, out-of-place T-shirts, and manish leather jackets in off-color shades of brown, also accentuate the obvious.

Stahl doesn't have the Hepburn pannache (or style DNA) to pull it all off.

Best-Worst Dressed Woman

Lady Gaga

Pop Diva alights in a spanking new category

Sizzling stage performer, Lady Gaga, tends to be an eclectic mix-and-match hodge-podge of eye-catching fabrics crafted into show-shopping get-ups that  drum up wild roars from the crowd.

Even still, she usually managess to hit a top that usually strikes a balance, which resonates with her die-hard fans and Pop Music afficianados.!

The mercurial Diva - with a penchant for chapeaus of the wild and whoolly variety - on occasion saunters into a fashion faux pas (or two) - like the night she squeaked by during the occasion of her audience with the Queen of England.

Naughty, yes!

But, endearing, too.

A likely candidate to mug for "No Excuses" commercials, eh?

Her fashion sense (and scintillating style) is all over the map, though  - which is the major crux of the dilemma for fashionistas pulse-takers who strive to slot their subjects into neat & ttidy packages for easy consumption.

For this reason, and with her stage persona at the forefront of my style-concious sensibilities, I crown her Best-Dressed Worst-dressed because she is a stand alone fashion wonder which will continue to rage on amidst thunderous applause for decades to come.

Brad Pitt...quote on tying knot with Angelina Jolie! Inglorious Basterds retread in Theatres soon...

Love, Honor, and Obey
The barcode inscription on Angelina's arm?

Recently, sexy Brad Pitt gushed to one rapt media outlet that he definitely has love in his life!

I expect that since he said "has love" and not "a love" that he was inferring that there is much to whoop it-up-about these heady days.

For instance, Inglorious Basterds - Pitt's new feature directed by zany Quentin Tarantino - opens around the country in a scant few hours.

Die-hard Pitt fans will undoubtedly rustle up a frenzy at local and National Theatre Box Offices.

The remake of the classic action-adventure World War II originally starred Bo Svenson - a pretty cool dude (surprisingly down-to-earth for an actor) - who I met at a screening at the ever-funky New Beverly Cinema (Hollywood).

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/07/enzo-g-castellaricelebrates-birthday-at.html

On the actual subject of "love" - in a romantic sense - the Hollywood hunk has no qualms about sharing his innermost thoughts outside of the couple's inner sanctum.

Without doubt, Angelina is the lovestruck star's "soul mate".

"Maybe we'll get married when it's legal for everyone else."

Until then, the winsome-twosome is content to live in sin despite harsh criticisms from hate-mongers who play hide-and-seek in so-called Religious organizations with the ultimate aim of meeting their own secret agendas at-any-and all costs.

Keats said it best:

"Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one"

Asian Pacific Film Festival...@ glittering opening night Beau Sia, Cindy Cheung & Art Hsu stroll red carpet! Bai Ling reveals Angelina Jolie "sexy"...

Bai Ling dazzles on red carpet!

There was a show of force from the Asian community last night at the Director's Guild as the Asian Pacific Film Festival broke out the bubbly to celebrate their 25th Silver Anniversary.

The glittering event was awash with film celebrities who strode down the red carpet in high-style as the paparazzi snapped away.

Beau Sia (Deaf Poet @ HBO) was a fashion plate who piqued a lot of interest as he ran the gauntlet.

When I jotted down his comment about being artsy-fartsy he was pleased.

"I'm into individual style," he quipped wickedly.

And, on occasion, the performance artist doesn't hold back when it comes to taking up a social or political cause.

Last night, for example, he sported a brilliant green neckerchief which sparkled under the bright overhead lights as a show of "Solidarity for the Swine Flu".

Bai Ling dazzled everyone when she glided up in an Italian Couture outfit which certainly overwhelmed me!

Her chic cocktail outfit was fashioned from a flutter of pink feather-like flourishes on top (a plunging neckline didn't leave much to the imagination by the way) which were the perfect foil for the body-hugging black skirt that accented her petite sexy figure.

Although SANS necklace, a stunning one-of-a-kind designer bracelet - and matching signature ring - struck gold in the accessories department.

The other evening Ms. Bai Ling and I danced the light-fantastic at the beach-side Newport Film Fest.

Ms. Ling is becoming a regular fixture at "The Tattler" & "Pop Culture" sites - a darling gorgeous one, I might add - with a frenzied fan base!

Look for the sensuous actress in Crank (2) in the near future.

"I'm the color in the film," she giggled.

Not surprising!

When I asked Bai who she liked in the industry, I was quite surprised by her response.

"Angelina Jolie. She's so sexy," she purred.

I was tempted to pose a question - Miss Ling are you bisexual? - but opted not to get too personal.

She noted that one of her faves in the biz is Richard Gere- a close friend - who she may work with in the future.

But, she's pining to be cast opposite Johnny Depp.

"You'd make a dazzling couple," I piped up as I noted I would get the word out.

Johnny, give Ms. Ling a call, will 'ya?

As Bai started to drift off down the carpet to a handful of photogs drooling at the mouth, she leaned into me and whispered:

"Come to my web site - Bai Ling dot com - so we can get intimate."

If anyone could turn a guy's - um - persuasion - it's definitely Ling!!!

The two young stars of "Children of Invention" were such a delight as they strolled by.

Michael Chen (11 years old) showed up in a Rock 'n Roll shirt etched with eye-catching glitter.

The charismatic young actor currently resides and attends school in upstate New York.

His favorite MBA team? The Houston Rockets.

When I asked the polite young actor what was the most difficult aspect of working on the project, he was quick to respond that it was the script.

"It was about this thick," he quipped, as his hands demonstrated a depth of about 5 inches.

There was one boo-boo that caused Chen a little discomfort during filming, too.

One morning before heading off to the set, his parents took him to the dentist to have braces installed on the lower teeth, without informing the director.

On location that evening when the shoot started up, the ubiquitous silver contraption turned out to be such a glaring continuity problem, that the crew was forced to summarily remove 'em pronto.

"It hurt," he recalled with a grimace.

Crystal Chiu, who played Michael's young sister in "Invention", looked for all-the-world like a perfect little China Doll, with her porcelain skin, deep soulful eyes, and enchanting party dress.

Although a bit shy on the carpet, she managed to confide in me that memorizing the scripted lines was a bit tough.

Jun Kim (West 32nd Street) just made the trek out to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career in Tinsel Town.

Mr. Kim is currently seeking an agent, so I promised to put the word out.

I've included a publicity still to help along the process.

Good luck Jun!

The Director and two actors who star in "Karma Calling" were on hand to promote their film which screens on Sunday.

One plot line reminded me of another popular Indian feature - "Outsourced" - which I penned a review on last year.

See for yourself how the film compares when it screens this Sunday (May 3rd).

The co-producer and Director of "All About Dad" had some interesting input in respect to their film.

The project focuses on conflicts that often arise with 2nd Generation Asian-Americans in respect to family and traditions in their culture.

An aggressive outgoing (handsome) young director from Alabama (Nathanial Nuon) strode up and invited me to his screening at 9:45 on Sunday evening at the Laemmle Sunset 5 venue.

"When I was a kid, I lived with some Cambodian refugees. So, I speak the language fluently. I promised I would tell their story one day."

"Residue" is a controversial and intriguing story about the CIA's involvement in Cambodia during the war in Vietnam and the chilling aftermath that follows several years later, according to the press blurb.

Art Hsu is a tall articulate man (handsome, too, though not reflected in the character shot opposite) with a distinctive voice who sauntered in to mix & mingle and exchange ideas with the filmmakers and actors at the DGA.

Just what I envisioned Film Fests should be all about: a forum for a meaningful dialogue about the film, the state of the industry, you name it.

In the near future, you can catch the dashing actor on the wide screen in the upcoming Crank 2 (High Voltage).

In the recent past, Mr. Hsu appeared in EQUUS (he played one of the horses) opposite celebrated Star Trek actor, George Takei.

David Magdael, head of Public Relations for the festival again this year, was thrilled with the large turn-out.

"There is quite a variety. 181 films," he beamed.

Before the opening night feature film - "Children of Invention" - sprang to life on the state-of-the art wide screen, a DGA rep welcomed the Asian Pacific Film Festival back to the fold for the 14th consecutive year.

"Treat this like your home this weekend," she urged.

"And think of it as your home in the future."

The perky young woman noted that a handful of DGA reps were in the audience to be of assistance to Asian Filmmakers in their bid for membership into the Guild in the event they were prepared to go one step further in their professional career pursuits.

Shinae Yoon, the Executive Director for the Festival, dashed up to the podium at one point and enthusiastically chirped:

"It's all about you!"

Yoon welcomed all the filmmakers to the annual event which is sure to be a resounding success this year in view of the slated line-up.

Angelina Jolie...my wet dream!

The mystical Jungian images appeared to be drawing me deeper into their symbolic realm when - suddenly - I found myself sprawled in bed naked next to a lone figure turned away from me slumbering away.

Suddenly - without warning - the warm body rolled over and I was stunned to find myself kissy-face with Angelina Jolie.

In a few seconds, we were all over each other, making out furiously!

Cut to a speeding Porsche.

"We musn't tell Brad," she insisted, as she shifted the gears of the high-maintenance roadster and gazed deeply into my eyes.

Before you could say - "wet dream" - I was wide awake and shaking my head in disbelief.

What the heck was that all about?

The curious dream was obviously triggered by the fact I mentioned how stunning the actress looked on the red carpet at the Oscar celebrations last week.

Of course, wild dangerous femme fatales are no strangers to moi!

In fact, in my youth - when the sixties were in full swing - I crossed paths with a few!

Recently, when I was in Vancouver visiting old friends - a security guard (and a former member of a notorious biker gang) who was in charge of security at Rochdale College when I was in attendance there in 1969 - out-of-the-blue asked a question which jarred my memory a tad.

"What ever happened to that blond babe with the great ta ta's you hung out with," he quizzed me point-blank without a hint of decorum in his voice.

Before I could collect my thoughts and respond, he turned to the other guests in the room, and tattled on me!

"You should have seen this chick (his expression, not mine, ladies).

"She had these huge melons, and porcelain skin, and the hottest little bod on her."

"And," he cackled, "She wore a long white fur coat without anything - no panties, nothing - underneath."

Now the memories came flooding back, indeed!

We met earlier in the evening, made out in the shower, and then party-hopped around the 18-level College dorm 'til the crack of dawn.

I guess we were quite an eyeful - me, in my tight-fitting blue jeans, shirtless and barefoot - she, a ravenous Swedish beauty wrapped in a lone luxurious fur.

Well, I've always adored beautiful women.

Put them up on a pedestal, that's for sure.

I guess I'm a sort-of a "fag-hag" in reverse.

Readers who follow my blog are keen on the fact I'm inclined to feature a stunning beauty or two in a blog post now and then.

And, if I'm reviewing a film or penning a career profile - you can bet your sweet - um - bippy - that I'll post a flattering photo which usually captures the lass as scantily-clad as possible.

Handsome men get the nod, too.

I need something to pretty up the pages, don't I?

Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best:

"Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is Art."

Brad Pitt...hates the paparazzi! Naive actor takes the cash but neglects obligation...

Why all the cheesecake if you don't like to show it off?

Apparently Brad Pitt revealed on a network TV show that he "hates" the paparazzi.

In fact, Jolie's golden boy had some amusing thoughts to add to that.

"Let me be blunt: I hate them. I hate these people. I don't understand...that they do that for a living."

Brad, you're either very naive, or you forgot what it's like to be a struggling actor.

I say: tough ti**y!

Having to "deal" with the paparazzi is part of the nature of the best.

Brad - do you think that fans go to your films, rent one of your movies, or snatch up a magazine with your mug on the front cover - because they respect you for your acting?

Frankly, for the most part, no.

Let's face it, you're a pretty boy with chiseled abs.

That's your appeal, sorry!

Fans fantasize about you, lust after your body, and pine for a glimpse into your private life.

No, not just the one you inhabit in a role on screen.

The photos you complain about facilitate that essential aspect of the "business".

If you are not aware of that "reality", it's time to turn in your SAG card, and try your hand at selling real estate.

Or move to Europe, curse America ever after, and become a recluse.

Yes, Brad - in case you weren't aware of it - the film industry is a part of an intricate concern known as Hollywood's dream factory.

Brad Pitt is a cog in it.

Granted, I agree with you that the paparazzi should not - as you pointed out in your interview - climb over walls around the perimeters of your private property or call out your children's names as you're dropping them off at school in order to land an exclusive still.

That is wrong.

Instead of whining about, though, do something constructive.

Organize a band of supporters, draft an initiative, and submit it to Los Angeles City Council.

Or, put it on a ballot in the next election.

Whatever.

You say you don't understand that "they" do that for a living.

Heh, maybe photo journalists have a family to support.

Did you never sign on for a turkey - let's face it Brad, two of your last films were real stinkers - just for the big bucks?

When I reflect on your career - and that of others - one thing appears obvious.

On the rise up, actors tend to be so kissy-kissy with the fans, Accommodating to the media, and on-the-ready to offer up the gift of the gab in order to slyly maneuver their way onto the cover of People or GQ.

You name it.

Then, once a high-profile star has managed to secure a financial footing - and likewise, stash a little moolah in the bank - they turn the screws.

"The hell with 'ya. Who needs the likes of you."

Yes, that's the ungrateful lament of the day.

No man is an island, Mr. Pitt, and when you turn your back on your bread-and-butter, that message may come home to roost crystal clear.

Thank your lucky stars you've had such a successful run.

Keep up the nonsense and you'll be starring in half-hour infomercials on cable at 3 a.m nightly.

Made you need to eat a bit of humble pie to get your priorities straight!
