Leonardo DiCaprio...highest paid heartthrob! Funny doesn't equate to $$$ for Adam Sandler!

If you read between-the-lines of the latest Forbes Magazine report on the subject of the highest-paid actors in the lofty realm of feature films, it should be evident that funny does not always equate to money!

For example, Adam Sandler - a perennial favorite of the comedy genre - lagged behind two studly box-office stars more inclined to go the heartthrob route.

Leonardo DiCaprio broke stride this year, in fact, and ended up best rewarded for his acting chops to the tune of $77 million.

Just betcha, he was laughing all the way to the bank, when he shouted to runner-up actor Johnny Depp:

"Catch me if you can!"

Well, Johnny-boy can probably point an accusing finger at "The Tourist" for tarnishing his once-stellar career record at the local movie theatre, for starters.

But, the big-budget fiasco didn't appear to put a dent in Angelina Jolie's film prospects, on the other hand.

Word is that Ms. Jolie is prepping for a remake of "Cleopatra" - a much-anticipated acting challenge - which should rustle up even bigger bucks for one of the world's most-beautiful women.

I wouldn't kick Angie out-of-bed for eating crackers, you betcha!

Brad better remain attentively by the sultry siren's side (may I peel 'ya a grape, dahlink?) while she's on location - after all - you know what happened when Elizabeth Taylor took on the role with a handsome young stud in the lead of Mark Anthony in the romantic environs of Rome.

Uh-huh!

The International scandal that followed - not only broke up her marriage to Eddie Fisher - but caused Ms. Taylor to be denounced by the Pope!

Leonardo DiCaprio...on prowl in Vegas nightclub! New Orleans best hook-up spot!

DiCaprio's raw sexy appeal!

Leonardo DiCaprio was foot-loose and fancy-free the other night as he partied-hearty at a trendy Las Vegas nightclub.

Locals were speculating that the hot-to-trot heartthrob (newly-single?)  was on the prowl and looking to hook-up for a sizzling romp between-the-sheets.

If that's the case, Leonardo may be wise to jet off to New Orleans instead.

According to a recent travel report, the top three cities for singles to tango in are New Orleans, Austin (Texas), and - last, but not least - Las Vegas.

At least the desert oasis crept ahead of New York (4th place) where the strippers never sleep!

Stay posted for DiCaprio updates!

Leonardo DiCaprio...nose news!

Leonardo naked to the world!

In the aftermath of the trending debacle on twitter - which descended on heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio last night after he was caught scooping nasty sn** out of his snoz on-camera while millions gazed on in disgust - I suddenly recalled an old joke which appears to be appropros under the circumstances.

What do you do when your nose goes on strike?

Pick it!

Leonardo DiCaprio...plug oil leak with actor's snot! Say tweet trenders!

How soon they turn on 'ya, eh, Leonardo?

Tonight, trending started fast & furious on twitter when a couple of by-standers at the Laker's game caught the heart-throb dredging up something nasty out of his normally-pristine hairless nostrils.

"They should plug up the oil leak with whatever that was DiCaprio was picking out of his nose," one scandalized tweeter posted in a huff.

Inquiring minds want to know all the delicious (!) details.

Was it a pukey green color consisting of a thick pasty constitution, or just of the plain "white mucous" variety

How did he dispose of it?

Naw, he didn't!

Nothing to be ashamed of if you're caught in a pinch - suddenly and without notice - with all eyes on 'ya.

I recall singing this little ditty in the classroolm to annoy my teacher when her back was turned.

"Everyone's doin' it. Pickin' their nose and chewin' it."

One bimbo babe at the social hub site didn't seem to mind the disgusting habit, though.

"He's gorgeous," she gushed, "I want his babies."

Another, thought he looked kinda' dirty.

Uh-huh!

It appears that the Titantic dreamboat hadn't shaved for a day or two - and boy - he looked rough around the edges.

I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers, though.

One fan took the golden opportunity to boast that DiCaprio would be teaming up with Eastwood for a biopic on the intriguing life & times of J. Edgar Hoover.

Will the squinty-eyed-one probe into the former top Law Enforcement Officer's scandalous closetted homosexual lifestyle and the alleged trysts with his underlings (!) at the Bureau?

Leonardo DiCaprio...11th Hour doc on Environment! BP take note of re-post...

The 11th Hour is a film focusing on the environment and Global warming, narrated by heart throb, Leonardo DiCaprio.

According to Leonardo:

"Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity."

"We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future for our planet."

Written and directed by sisters - Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners - it is a thought-provoking informative film.

Through the medium of celluloid, DiCaprio and leading scientists from around the Globe, are calling for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity.

To some, the voices heard here may sound a lot like an echo from those that spoke out in former Vice-President Al Gore's timely film: "An Inconvenient Truth".

In some respects - yes - it is.

But in this project there are some refreshing takes on some well-traveled territory which make the bill of fair more palpable this time around.

For instance, one writer known in the field on environmental issues, presents an intriguing rgument about our natural resources.

For example, he contends that because the population was once basically stable, mankind was able to survive wholly on natural light.

Then, he argues that once man discovered how to tap into the resources of "ancient sun" - in the form of oil and fossil reserves - humans began to live on borrowed time.

"We are time thieves," one scientist chimed in.

Consequently, because of it, we have been exhausting our natural resources ever since.
When the producers show us what occurs when one grand old tree is cut down in its prime - the dramatic impact on the soil, the run-off water, and the overall negative impact on the environment - it becomes evident to everyone in the audience the need to hasten the preservation of rain forests, for example.

And yes, we should be planting trees!

Another wonderful idea put forth in the 11th Hour greatly impacted me as well.
One scientist noted that on earth existence amounts to two commodities: people and property.
Yes, only two concepts that matter today are: owners and the things that are bought and sold.
Nature, he points out, does not appear to have any rights at all.

The scientists proceed to make a very sound argument for implementing laws to protect the earth's resources and our natural habitat.

"The mission of the community should be to inspire action at every level: from individual action, up through our communities, to the State, National and International level. Aggressive action must be focused on shifting our civilization to a sustainable future."

But here, the tale turns sinister.

Yes, influential forces in Washington, D.C. - lobbyists for the all-powerful oil industry - have heavily unbalanced the landscape.

For example, one Government Official in charge of assessing the state of key environmental issues, is an attorney and formerly a lobbyist for the Oil Companies.

Scientists complain that when they submit their findings to Washington for action, he edits out the incriminating forecasts and facts to soften the impact.

Many of you will no doubt recall watching investigative reports on Dateline and Sixty Minutes about the shocking attempts at a cover-up which are expounded on more fully in the insightful 11th Hour.

I was particularly taken by a reminder from one scientist - that in nature, more-often-than-not - waste is not an end product as the human species would have it.

In nature, for example, what is waste to one life form is sustenance to another.

The scientific team assembled here argue that it's time mankind focused on these kinds of solutions in order to survive in the future.

The film is a bit talky, and preachy, and there's an awful lot of scientific info to digest; but, maybe that's the medicine the modern man needs spoon-fed to him so that he will sit up and take notice.

But, the 11th Hour is not all doom, and gloom, or just a downer.

The film proceeds to offer up suggestions and exciting alternatives for the future.

The number one priority appears to be to build sustainable buildings, for instance; after all, there is a need for the planning and development of structures with an eye towards solar power, recycling of waste, and harmonious compatibility with the environment.

At this juncture - when the producers show rooftop gardens and windmill energy and leading edge technology to recycle waste - the possibilities appear to be exciting, overwhelming, and downright encouraging.

The future may be an exciting new road to travel down, if we give it a chance.

At the Q & A afterward, reps from two major environmental action-groups fielded questions about ways in which consumers can help.

It all starts at home with each individual doing their part: recycling, installing solar panels on rooftops, using clean energy.

Shutter Island...mind fu** movie! Leonardo DiCaprio excels in psycho thriller...

An old expression - "No Man is an Island" - sprang to mind at the close of the Martin Scorsese's new feature unveiled at theatres today in wide release.

Sometimes - in order  to escape with sanity intact - it is necessary to be an island unto one's self.

The film - Shutter Island - is a psychological thriller in every sense.

Without holding back (too much so, in fact) Scorsese uses a bit of directorial wizardry to snatch up  a captive audience - and then send them headlong into a twisted realm of perception - where reality and illusion are so intertwined it makes the psyche ache.

In a nutshell, Leonard DiCaprio plays a U.S. Marshall,  assigned to investigate the disappearance of a dangerous patient at a mysterious high-security medical facility.

Shortly into the first phase of his fact-finding mission, unexpected events unfolding around him, tend to trigger memories and the onslaught of vivid frightening dreams that are difficult to wrap his own head around.

Suddenly, reality as he perceives it, goes  upside-down and sideways, when a patient at the Shutter Island facility cautions him that the world he has stepped into is "nothing but a game" and - more importantly - that there is no way out (once on the island).

The tables turn, things go bump in the night, and Scorsese's cinematic offering turns into a mighty mind fu**.

To reveal anything more would be strictly taboo.

Leonardo DiCaprio returns to the big screen in a challenging role that effects a star turn for the heart-throb.

In fact, in a couple of scenes he breaks the barrier, and ends up being downright convincing in a part that would be a struggle for even the most competent actor.

In fact, around awards time next year, I expect his name will be bandied about.

Scorsese is pretty much in top form, but stoops to a bit of melodrama at times.

For instance, when the ferry boat steams across the bay to the ominous island, the soundtrack sounds somewhat reminiscent of the intense theme song from "Jaws" cranked up for maximum effect.

Yeah, folks, something bad is going to go down!

The clever director also knows where his bread is buttered, too.

For this reason, the diminuitive auteur included cheesecake footage of DiCaprio with shirt off - all buffed and sporting tats - in spite of the fact the scene was unnecessary to the plot (and basically amounted to gratuitious sexual images).

The cast of players are all excellent and well-cast in their cameo roles.

To me, the most intriguing aspect of  "Shutter Island" dangled with the doubt.

One woman quipped to her friend as she was exiting the theatre:

"They were trying to help him."

This just might be one of those big-budget Hollywood-style films that took a turn somewhere.

How often does the hero end up in the kind of end scenario depicted here?

You'll figure it out.

Blogging...fame! Tourists chase me down with camera in Beverly Hills!

Okay, so I confess.

In addition to warbling a bit in the shower, I tend to sing out loud and proud along with the radio or a popular CD when I am zipping along in traffic.

Who knew?

Another confession.

I am a fan of the theme song from Titanic - "My Heart will go on" - which I intend to record one day.
Well, yesterday I was cruising along Sunset Boulevard near the Beverly Hills Hotel, when the haunting ballad starting to blast on the state-of-the-art speakers

Just maybe, the music was a tad bit loud?

I turned to my left and spied two tourists in the vehicle next to me surreptitiously glancing my way.

But, before our eyes could meet, the light changed to green.

So, I hit the metal and breezed on down the Palm-lined streets of the tony enclave towards Hollywood.

Suddenly (out of the corner of my eye) I caught sight of the little engine that could getting ready to overtake me in the next lane.

As I shifted a bit in my seat to get a look-see in my rear view mirror at the motorists, I found myself staring into a rather large video camera!

Egads!

The tourists were filming me!

Non-plussed - and not shy when it comes to vocalizing - I proceeded to sing a couple of bars of the hit single for the cute young lovebirds.

Then, I sped off and lost 'em in traffic.

Does this mean I'm going to be on TMZ???

National Enquirer...Tabloids check facts. DiCaprio & Stone incident proved it to me!

Since the fifties, whenever the names of Tabloid newspapers pop up in a conversation, they conjure up wild images of tales about babies born with three heads, nine-legged aliens that have landed from outer space, whatever!

In recent years - the fodder has tended to be a little tamer - with a big thrust on sex scandals, drug abuse, and corruption in high places.

Like me, you probably expect that when you come across a photo alleging two Hollywood Stars are dating, that the two individuals have never even met; instead, were thrust together in a scandalous clinch by virtue of the skillful hand of a photoshop artist.

Nonetheless - many shoppers at the local supermarket are inclined to give the weeklies a surrepticious glance - before they head out the door with their groceries.

Alhough titillated, many are too embarrassed to be caught dead actually purchasing a dog-eared copy.

For the most part - many Americans are under the distinct impression that - The National Enquirer, The Examiner, and The Star - print up juicy tidbits of salicious gossip without even verifying the facts.

Well, I can attest to the fact that such an allegation would not be true.

A few years ago - I answered an ad in the local newspaper - that was canvassing for talented writers for a "popular" weekly magazine.

When I scheduled the interview, though, I was surprised when I found myself face-to-face with the Editor-in-Chief for one of the top sleaze-bag tabloid newsies in the country.

As one of my favorite characters on "In Living Color" would say,

"I'm not one to gossip, but - "

Although I'm not the type of individual to sort-through dirty laundry, or hang outside sleazy Motels in search of incriminating evidence, I thought - what the heck - I'll give it a shot.

There was one hitch, though.

The Editor requested that I come up with ten story "ideas" before they would sign me on as a regular feature writer.

So, I trundled off in search of a handful of leads from friends and business associates in the industry. God, it was like trying to pull teeth!

One day, I crossed paths with an old friend, and mentioned my dilemma.

"If you hear anything, give me a call."

As it turned out, my gal pal was dating a bartender at a trendy watering hole in Santa Monica. And - her lover noted in passing - that heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio and Director Oliver Stone were spied huddling in the back room one night snorting cocaine!

When I called up the editor to pass on the tidbit, he demanded the name of the bartender and the exact location of the nightclub.

I put out a call to my friend with a request for the specifics.

At this point, she panicked. Her friend (who happened to be a woman) was antsy about stepping forward. After all, she was a Christian. Also, she was worried about losing her job.

"Well, see if you can get her to change her mind," I urged. "The newspaper will pay well for the tip."

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, the tabloid proceeded to contact the Bar behind my back in a scurrilous effort to secure the facts on their own.

Talk about a knife in the back!

Because I let it slip the bartender was a woman - and there was only one female barkeep employed at the establishment - they were able to quickly zero in on her identity.

Then, staff writers proceeded to pester her at work and later at home!

The poor gal freaked out.

Bottom line?

The newspaper wouldn't print the item on DiCaprio and Stone since none of the eyewitnesses were willing to step forward and confirm the facts.

I was surprised as he**.

But, the whole bizarre scenario was reassuring, too.

Until then, I was under the distinct impression the tabloids printed any old piece of gossip unchecked.

Not true!

In light of this, I expect you'll linger a little longer in front of those screaming headlines at the check-out counter, eh?
