David Beckham...to launch bodywear! Sexy skivvies for manly studs!

A mantool athletic cup may effect the right thrust!

I suppose David Beckham got tired of slipping into some other dude's tight-whities, eh?

So, while out on-the-town this past week, the studly soccer star playfully confided to a member of the frenzied paparazzi that he intends to launch his own fashionable line of sexy underthings for sports-minded males.

Adios, Giorgio!

Though Becks was a bit vague about the designs - top drawer stuff, 'ya know - it appears that the skin-like tightie-whities may be introduced with a collection of body-contouring t-shirts and tanks to mix-and-match at whim.

I expect that posh Victoria will have a designer's hand in things?

Alexa...the Tattler traffic & Demographic analysis! Fans are women ages 18 -24!

According to Alexa, the demographic for my readership at the Tattler falls in the 18 -24 age range with a larger percentage of my followers being of the fairer sex (sensual females).

Gosh, in view of that, you'd think I'm a sexy heartthrob or hunky dude, eh?

Maybe my fans love me for my mind?

Also, this week my rank with Alexa (United States stats) was higher than it has ever been!

It occurred to me bright-and-early this morning - that it may be a wise (and courteous) move - to consider catering more to my adoring audience?

In that event, I expect there will be an avalanche of scintillating posts with snippets of news on Twilight, sexy Justin Bieber, handsome Robert Pattinson, fashion trends, TMZ updates, Perez Hilton alerts, celebrity gossip, and what-have-you.

Stay posted, eh?

Pet Peeves...Latino & Asian bottle blonds! Orange hair a fashion no-no!

Sassy & Brassy!
(easy does it, Cher)

Today's pet peeve?

Well, I am tossing the searing spotlight on dim-witted Latino and Asian beauties (a certain Italian songbird, too) who elect to become - "bottle blonds" - and end up with lustrous "Orange" hair!

OMG!

The screwy bodacious babes (!) must be color blind.

I dare say.

I mean, talk about a bad-hair day!

Don't these dizzy bitches realize how ridiculous they look in their kooky misguided attempt to appear lily "white" and surfer "blond"?

As to black women - well - I'm not going there!

Whenever I spy "black and orange" I immediately think "Halloween" after all.

Go figure!

Isn't it great to be a natural blond, Paris Hilton?

Later!

Mr. Manners...rude Bellagio waitress shakes down tourists for tips! Poor Etiquette!

An incident at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino yesterday afternoon prompted me to enlist the aid of Mr. Manners to pen an essay on proper etiquette when it comes to tipping in glitzy Las Vegas (or elsewhere for that matter).

Normally, when a patron gambles on the Casino floor - at the slots or at a gaming table - cocktails, soft drinks, water, even beer - are on the house.

The "lubricating" drinks are not only geared to elevate a guest into a happy-go-lucky mood - but also - offered up with the hope that the gambler may be more inclined to part with a bit of cash in favor of the cashier's gate, too.

Just try to secure a drinkie-pooh from a tired old cocktail waitress if it appears you are not a whale about to drop a truckload of cash at the tables - or at a minimum - fritter away a fistful of bucks on the one-armed bandit scattered about the dazzling premises.

In view of the foregoing, I have a tipping structure that I follow - whenever I zip into my favorite Casino - to plug a handful of coins into the inviting 3-D slots strategically-placed about the floor of the Hotel environs.

If the waitress delivers up a lone beer - or a glass of quality white wine - I usually tip a buck (provided I haven't been forced to wait a half-an-hour-or-so to quench my thirst once I have stepped inside the establishment to take a respite from the sizzling-hot afternoon desert sun).

If I ordered an exotic cocktail, the stages get higher, and I generally toss at least two dollar bills on the tray (with a smile and a thank you very much).

But, when it comes to soft drinks or regular water, I usually pass on a tip for good reason.

For example, if I sit at the slots for a couple of hours - and consume four or five cokes - I'll end up frittering away a fiver at least.

In these tough economic times?

No way, Jose!

Especially if the handful of sodas (?) consist mostly of packed ice, water, and a dollop of syrup.

Yup!

What they offer up at Bellagio (and elsewhere on the glitzy Vegas strip)  is not even real coke, folks!

Judging by the response I get from a large percentage of the waitresses on duty, my tip structure is acceptable, because it is reasonable and practical (bottom line).

In fact, more often-than-not, a server is inclined to respond to my take on tipping in a respectful manner.

"If you need anything else, just wave me down," they usually stress with sincerity in their voice.

So, you can imagine how surprised I was yesterday afternoon when an uncouth waitress proceeded to linger at my side (after she plunked the coke down) in a diabolical bold-faced effort to intimidate - and ultimately - coerce some moolah out of me.

Sheesh!

What gall.

As a rule, a well-brought-up waitress -with a modicum of good manners - usually cruises up, slips soda down, then drifts off in the event coin of the realm is not offered up.

No big deal for someone with class!
In contrast, the shocking behaviour of the hag at the Bellagio - was not only inappropriate - but underscored poor breeding and a total lack of etiquette.

Amen!

Kate Middleton...copy-Kates hungry for fashion plate ensembles! Hat style up front!

Every since Kate Middleton was thrust into the glare of the spotlight on the heels of the announcement of her initial engagement to Prince William, fashionistas around the globe have been hungry for the Royal Style as seen through the chic eyes of Her Royal Highness.

While some critic focused on the pretty bride's weight up to the 11th hour (obviously Ms. Middleton was slimming to avoid the ring snafu which eventually unfolded anyway in front of the prying eyes of an intrusive press bent on pleasing their loyal frenzied subscribers) others were inclined to scrutinize every delicious detail of her elegant wardrobe selections.

It was only a given - that in due time - a phrase would be coined to designate the chosen few!

Uh-huh.

According to a titillated press in jolly Old England - across the big pond - Royal Fashion Watchers are now known as Copy-Kates!

Wonders never cease!

And, I expect, that Prince William's famed rambunctious jaunts with his randy young brother - Prince Harry - will rustle up a catchy phrase or two in the future.

How 'bout - Will's thrills?

Women's Spring Fashion...feminine! Sensual! Romantic!

Uncomplicated sun dresses in monochromatic shades of white will be popular this spring - when the chic female silhouette takes a delicate sure-footed step forward - into a welcome feminine direction.

The stylish ensembles will be marked by delicate floral prints - that are see-through on occasion and layered - and inclined to float on sensual fabrics that are a delight to the touch and a feast for the eyes.

Under a romantic full moon, the sensual female will also be inclined to don simple - yet distinctive - designer frocks that flow freely over a body adorned with a precious eye-catching bauble or two to exalt the features.

If you're a gal without the stylish ability to pull the look off on your own, saunter down to Robertson Blvd. in WeHo, and take a gander at the offerings in the window at Chanel for fashion tips.

Solids in vivid bold colors - such as blood-red and ultra-marine blue - will lead the way, also.

In addition, stripes of a different color - polka-dots, too - will surge forward with stylish flair when the first buds of the new season break through.

In a nutshell, fashionistas are forecasting a 70's influence, sure to transform the doldrums of a long drawn-out winter into a bright and cheery season come the end of March or the beginning of April.

And, don't forget accessories such as - pastel-colored sashes, pretty silk scarves, coy little hats sitting askew just-so on the head - to spark up a dash of individual style

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards...Host Ricky Gervais insults top brass! Angelina Jolie shimmered!

High-end designer gowns shimmered in the exotic environs of the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel below the setting sun, the heads of ecstatic fans turned this way 'n that as a bevy of bodacious babes sashayed down the red carpet with handsome escorts on their arms in the rarefied air just beyond reach, and a posse of media types hovered nearby begging for a photo opportunity like moths to flame.

Uh-huh.

The 68th Annual Hollywood Foreign Press Association Awards were underway.

"The Press Awards are like a cool party in an upscale steak house, " cooed popular late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon as he alighted on the red carpet for the dazzling festivities.

Indeed!

"It's all about the par-tay," another hip guest astutely quipped to camera on the frenzied sidelines.

Needless to say, once the show under the big top was in full swing, there were a number of awkward - some say disturbing - displays of bad behaviour.

I am reminded of an old Chinese Proverb.

"Never insult a host in his own home."

For some inexplicable reason, quirky Ricky Gervais threw caution to the wind, in that regard.

Witin minutes of strolling onto the stage to launch the much-anticipated ritzy event - the stand-up comic got caught up into a nasty undertow - that threatened to derail the otherwise fun and festive footloose soiree that beckoned ahead.

"There's alot of partying & drinking going on. Or, as Charlie Sheen would say, breakfast," Gervais chortled as the momentum started to build early on.

To quote a line from the musical "Chicago":

"He (Charlie) had it coming!"

You betcha!

The suits were not off-limits to his potshots, either.

One unkind remark - that focused on a head honcho at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association caused an uproar to erupt in the otherwise well-mannered audience below the footlights - for instance.

"I just lifted his head out of the toilet. And, helped pop his bridge back in his mouth," naughty Gervais guffawed with glee in reference to the top dog at the HFPA.

The power-player was inclined to  respond-in-kind when it was his turn at the mic.

"Ricky, next time you want a project okayed for the Foreign Press, go elsewhere," he snarled.

A loud moan circulated the room.

Talk about instant karma, eh?

In fact - some of the barbs were so vicious (mean-spirited was the way one actor characterized the in-your-face insults)  - that some speculated Ricky's sorry a** had been fired off the show when he disappeared for an hour-or-so during the course of the evening.

Did the slimeball funnyman get called up on the carpet by the top brass?

Gervais didn't get off the hook for his unkind remarks, that's for sure, judging by his red-faced appearance later on stage.

Boy, would I like to have been a fly on-the-wall during that bull session!

Needless to say, a couple of fellow performers were inclined to jump into the fray, and toss a couple of barbs the upstart's way.

"We knew Ricky when he was chubby and funny. Now he isn't," barked Tim Allen to all within earshot.

There was a lot of Monday morning quarter-backing around water-coolers the following day, I expect.

Headlines around the country screamed out a thought on the minds of the bemused teaming masses everywhere.

Will Gervais be invited back next year to host the popular awards show?

But the whole night wasn't a downer in spite of Gervais.

For example, Michael Douglas managed to rustle up a hearty welcome by virtue of his mere presence.

After he trotted up to the stage, the audience jumped to their feet, and applauded the seasoned pro - in part - because he just licked the big "C".

"I wish there was an easier way to get a standing ovation," he joked.

The night was not totally devoid of class or style, though.

Angelina Jolie wowed fans in an emerald green gown which flattered her luscious bod, Justin Bieber sported a chic tuxedo that sparked up his image a tad, and Natalie Portman strutted down the fashion gauntlet with a carefree style (which underscored the Black Swan's star is definitely on the rise).

And, beneath the tinsel?

A heckuva lot more tinsel!

'Til next year!

Lady Gaga...waxes poetic @ Madame Tussaud's! Pop Icon likeness unveiled!

The ever-popular - at-times terribly scandalous Pop Icon Lady Gaga - will saunter onto the world stage as a permanent fixture at Madame Tussaud's Museum this weekend.

In fact, her sculpted wax figure will be trotted out across the globe from the exotic far-east climbs of Hong Kong to the glitzy Las Vegas strip.

At press time, there hasn't been a whiff of insider scoop, on the fashionable threads that will ultimately grace the Monster Queen's luscious bod, though.

Can we expect the infamous meat smock to adorn the Pop Diva's Divine likeness?

Kay Alsop...greedy selfish Fashion Editor @ Province Newspaper!

Years ago, I was residing in Vancouver (B.C.), when I received an unexpected phone call one day from Kay Alsop (Fashion Editor) at the Province Newspaper (Southam News).

“Would you like to write a column on Men’s fashion, dear?"

Although I was involved in a few areas of the arts - painting, writing, and acting - a career pursuit in that line of work never occurred to me.

Around that time, I was offered a contract to model in Germany, so the Province wrote a career profile on me for the newspaper (before the daily went tabloid-style).

When one of the managers noticed that in addition to my involvement in fashion - that a few pieces of my literature (poems & short stories) had also been published - the idea was hatched to offer me a column reporting on menswear.

Being an adventurous individual - and not one to say no to new opportunities - I graciously accepted.

Alsop  noted that each month one of my features on menswear would be published in the Province for a nominal writer’s fee.

I immediately jumped in to the swim of things by researching the subject thoroughly and familiarizing myself with the collections of men’s fashion designers and so-forth-and-so-on.

I was quite excited on the first occasion that I turned in one assignment - and after getting a nod from Alsop ("this is good stuff," she quipped as she lightly perused the material) - that it would be published in the near future.

Each morning, I anxiously ran to the newspaper stand and scoured the paper for my first article.

When I finally spied the fashion spread at the crack of dawn one morning, I was a little shocked at the polished (!) version that Alsop okayed for the presses.

One or two beautiful turns of phrases I slaved over were “edited out” and paragraphs were butchered in half.

Indeed, her version was a radical departure from the eloquent well-written one, I turned in.

Reality set in.

Now I knew why folks tended to label journalists "hacks".

At the Province, and to Kay Alsop in particular, it was the column inch that mattered.

I quickly learned that penning an article for a newspaper column required a different literary style.

In a nutshell, I realized it was important to get to the point in as few words as possible, but be ever-mindful to develop originality, style and a unique voice.

Once I got into the groove of things, there was an exciting new development that caused me to jump for joy.

The higher-ups at the Province were so pleased with my column (the response from readers was  enthusiastic) that I was being blessed with a full page of coverage on  menswear once a month.

A promotion of sorts!

So, I scrambled to rustle up material that would appeal to my growing audience.

Unfortunately, once my reports started to garner attention in fashion circles, problems with Kay Alsop set in.

For example, one day Kay called me up out-of-the-blue and berated me on the phone.

“You haven’t been mentioning any of our advertisers in your fashion columns,” she accused.

In spite of the fact I was a budding journalist, I was always under the impression - from an ethical standpoint - that the editorial department should not be influenced by (or get into bed with the advertisers).

Kay Alsop had difficulty grasping the concept.

One day, she dragged me over to a menswear shop that ran quarter-page ads in the province, and practically stood over me as I interviewed the owner of the shop and took stock of the inventory so I could pen a rave review on it.

Then, there was an ugly moment, when I saw the clear light of day.

In an aside, which I overheard, the gentleman in question asked if Kay’s husband was happy with the men’s clothes the store owner shipped over.

Kay Alsop was on the take!

One evening, when we attended a ritzy upscale charity fashion event in West Vancouver, Kay turned to me and uttered up an odd remark that was quite unsettling.

“Someone told me you have been telling people that you're the Fashion Editor.”

I was in shock.

That allegation was totally false.

In fact, the notion was so stupid, that I nearly laughed out loud a few minutes later (for obvious reasons) after reflecting on the comment.

Why would I make such an outrageous remark in view of the fact a person had only to open up the daily paper and determine from the credits cited in the Province that Kay Alsop was listed as the Fashion Editor?

In fact, I was just a columnist penning a menswear feature titled "Dressing Right".

After giving the matter more thought, I realized that oftentimes people would ask me what I did for a living.

I do recall referring to myself as a fashion writer for menswear.

To give this “person” (who remained anonymous for some inexplicable reason) the benefit of the doubt, I suggested to Kay that perhaps they misheard me (or misunderstood what I said).

But more troubling situations brewed on the horizon which upset me.

After slaving over the drafting, editing and polishing of my stories for hours on end, once turned in, Kay would just open her drawer and plop them down inside without taking a gander.

Then, the unthinkable happened.

Story ideas I developed in my columns started showing up in her columns as my features remained unpublished in her drawer.

She was using me for her creative well (stealing my ideas!).

As I started to make contacts in the rag business, the Men’s Fashion Association of America invited me to attend a four-day event being held at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Fashion Editors from around the country were being put up at the Biltmore Hotel so that they could cover a non-stop round of menswear events featuring top designers in the country.

All I needed was the airfare (the room would be paid by the association) which amounted to about $200.00 return-trip at the time.

When I approached Kay about the newspaper possibly funding that portion of the cost of the trip, she was quite adamant that the newspaper could not afford it.

However, if I attended the fashion event on my own, the newspaper would be interested in publishing my stories at the regular fee.

Okie-Doke.

So, I paid my own airfare.

But it was quite disheartening - a shocker really - when the newspaper reported later that  Alsop was traveling overseas to Paris & Milan to cover all the big fashion shows that year.

Her trip - which must have cost thousands of dollars - was being paid by the Province.

At this point, I realized what a greedy selfish woman Kay Alsop was.

And, a thief to boot.

In addition, she was fiercely protective of what she perceived as her territory.

For instance, when I was preparing for a fashion shoot on location, I thought it might be visually-appealing to include a pretty female model in the fashion spread instead of just featuring two male models.

After I hired a female model, and spent considerable effort rustling up a cocktail dress and accessories for the shoot, Kay shunned the publicity shot featuring the woman’s fashion apparel.

Why?

Clearly, Alsop not only felt I had ventured on her turf without permission, but also threatened her exclusive role as woman’s fashion editor at the daily

Uh-huh!

When I was in Los Angeles, I met Lou Rawls at one of the events, and he noted he would be performing in Vancouver in the near future.

He noted he’d be receptive to an interview for the Province.

So, when he flew in to B.C. and settled in at his Hotel in North Vancouver (where he was performing in a lounge) I told Kay Alsop about Mr. Rawl’s offer.

“Oh, can you get my husband and me tickets,” she quizzed.

“We love Lou Rawls."

So, I arranged for the tickets, and we attended.

The next day my interview was scheduled with Mr. Rawls.

Because interviewers tended to focus entirely on Lou’s music, I elected to pen a piece on  Rawls as a “Man of Style”

It also was appropriate in view of the fact I was menswear writer for the newspaper.

At the interview, a reporter showed up from the newspaper, to snap a few publicity stills.

Because I was penning a piece on a man of style, I needed appropriate photos to accompany my story.

When it was obvious that the photographer missed the point of the story - and was clueless about the kind of photographs I needed to supplement my feature - I quietly approached him with some pointers.

Apparently, the photographer (a gruff man with poor manners) got ticked off by my overture - and behind my back - proceeded to complain to his department that I interfered with his creative process.

What a piece of sh**, eh?

At this juncture, Kay made a comment that my story mentioned a few details about Mr. Rawl’s musical background, in addition to the style report.

I was quite taken aback when Kay lamented that I was somehow encroaching on Renee's territory (a self-annointed (!) music critic at the newspaper).

I was flabbergasted for a couple of reasons.

It is not unusual for a writer or two in separate sections of the newspaper to pen features that cross-over on a subject.

Moreover, if what Kay said were true, then why did she accept the tickets to the Lou Rawl’s show?

If she believed that what she said was true - then, as a matter of principle - she should have nixed the plans to attend the Rawl's concert.

Although I had little contact with Renee, it was pretty obvious what a low-life (unintelligent) back-stabber she was, when a comment she made was revealed to me by one day by Kay.

“Renee says people call the newspaper trying to reach you all the time,” Kay barked at me in an accusing tone one day out-of-the-blue.

Say what?

For starters, I was treated as a free-lance writer at the Province - so - I worked at home.

I didn’t even have an office space or cubbyhole at the Province.

At no time did I ever give out a number at the Province nor did I ever invite anyone to call me there.

If Kay Alsop or Renee had one ounce of intelligence - or one iota of common sense - it should have been obvious to both of these  green-eyed monsteers that I had no control over a stranger and/or their actions.

It should have been obvious to any fool, that if you have a column in the newspaper which thousands of readers peruse daily, that now and then one of them may be inclined to try to contact the journalist - where else?

At the newspaper, of course!

By the way, in spite of the fact Renee alleged folks called to try to reach me, I don’t recall anyone at the newspaper ever  passing on the messages - or even informing me about  the calls - until Renee got her ti* caught in a wringer over the Lou Rawls “poaching” attempt.

At that  point, I pretty much fathomed the obvious.

Renee & Alsop were just tired old warhorses - puffed up with greed - and envious of me.

When Kay Alsop actually suggested in one column one day that patrons pluck up pats of butter from  the table of a restaurant and take them home to use on light snacks to save money, I pretty much knew for a sure at this point that Kay was off her rocker, too.

I complained to the Office Manager.

"Is this the news that is fit to print?"

He suggested I start reporting on hard news - but at the time - it was an area I was not much interested in reporting on so I passed.

And, on the heels of that meeting, I quit the newspaper.

Because Kay and I had a couple of mutual acquaintances in the social scene in Vancouver - Valerie Gibson and her daughter Michelle, for instance (both related to Canadian politician Gordon Gibson) they were quick to pester me for all the nasty details.

"What happened with you and Kay?"

A sportswriter I knew at the Sun also tried to pry the gossip out of me, too.

But, in all sincerity, I tried to be a man about it and exit the newspaper job gracefully.

Unfortunately, it came to my attention later - that because of my silence - folks thought the job did not pan out because I couldn’t cut it or due to the fact I was fired.

In the final analysis, my name and reputation at the paper was left dangling, to my great regret.

So, I promised myself that one day I would get it all off my chest at the appropriate time, and set the record straight.

Here it is, one unresolved score, settled at long last.

Yeah, Kay Alsop was quite a piece of work!

Menswear at Magic has a solid reputation for unveiling the most far-reaching assortment of menswear in the marketplace annually (and this year won't be an exception).

For those of your in the dark about such matters - poor darlings- Magic is where new trends often surface and eventually end up as cool designer threads on the backs of consumers around the country.

The goal of the high-profile rag meet is to connect and inspire the fashion community, fuse diverse trends, and deliver unbeatable service to customers, according to show organizers.

This year, the eclectic offerings have been broken into categories which best-reflect current bell weather trends in the burgeoning menswear market.

For example - S.L.A.T.E. is a juried assortment of sophisticated brands that originated in skate, surf, and street communities - steadily making their way into the mainstream.

In essence, S.L.A.T.E. zeroes in on (and exalts) the attitude of hipsters, artists, and musicians.

The "Street" look, meanwhile, puts the dazzling spotlight on menswear from the contemporary sportswear vein, hip-hop lifestyle, action-sports arena, and emerging mixed martial arts scene.

A concern about the environment in recent years has also triggered a flurry of activity in the fast-growing area of "green fashion".

It was only a matter of time, really!

The ECOLLECTION at Magic is distinguished by the fact that all of the offerings in the collection are environmentally and socially-conscious pieces of apparel.

Lindsay Lohan won't be shopping here for luxury furs (skinned off the backs of endangered species) anytime soon!

Abercrombie & Fitch...Ross sales pull ahead of trendy retailer! Almighty dollar - not style - counts...

If you scanned a recent sales report in the business section of the newspaper, it may have not not escaped your attention (especially if you're a keen analyst whe it comes to numbers) that top dogs in the retail fashion market - such as Abercrombie & Fitch - slid to the bottom of the sales performance pile in recent months.

In contrast, discount houses such as Ross, climbed the ranks and landed in the profit margin (albeit, just by a few percentage points).

Several months ago when the economy started to spiral down and retailers were starting to cry the blues over a loss of revenue, one of the Executives at Abercrombie & Fitch boasted that the trendy fashion outlet for young men and women was surefire and "recession-proof".

For this reason, product at A&F would never be marked down or on "sale", he asserted.

A short while later, I chuckled when I cruised through one retail outlet and spied items that were obviously "on sale".

However, management wasn't inclined to cry "uncle", not just yet.

The signs were cleverly worded to give the impression that the reduced items were actually specially-priced wardrobe pieces available short term for good value at the cash register.

The deceitful ploy to "save face" smacked of the bold-faced efforts years ago by used-car dealers to enhance the image of trade-in cars on the lot by referring to the vehicles as pre-owned.

In the final analysis, Abercrombie & Fitch need not worry about losing a huge chunk of the normally-lucrative youth fashion market long term.

The taste for the style-setter's trendy provocative fashions (and seductive ads) has not diminished one iota with the teen and twenty-something crowd in any respect.

It all boils down to the almighty buck.

Right now, Americans are penny pinching (not straying from their budgets) in order to make ends meet.

Once the economy turns around and there is expendable cash in hand once again, style-conscious dudes and babes will be revving up the cash registers at Abercrombie & Fitch once again.

In the meantime, a column I penned on how to save $$$ by shopping at second-hand stores like Goodwill and Out-of-the-Closet (with tips on how to pick 'n chose wisely in the used-clothing arena) may be a life-saver for students out to piece together a snappy wardrobe to sport around campus this fall.

Milan...Men's Collections Spring 2010!

In spite of the fact Spring 2010 is a bit far off, Fashion Designers trotted off to Milan recently to unveil their collections for men on runways that breathed new life into male animal chic.

As a kaleidoscope pulsated passionately in the background, Etro's confident macho male models strutted out in lively pant-and-shirt ensembles etched with wild Hawaiian prints, vivid paisleys, and - on occasion - streaks and splashes of pure unadulterated color sure to appeal to the peacock of the species.

Meanwhile, Roberto Cavalli was inclined to butch up his collection military-style, with the emphasis on male machismo.

Elaborate epaulets and toggles on wide-shouldered jackets effectively pumped up the upper torso to create a flattering virile silhouette.

Subtle industrial hardware flourishes beefed up the "studly" image, too.

In contrast, Marc Jacobs wowed adventurous coming-of-age style-magnet males with lipstick-kiss motifs on blousey shirts, a bevy of shorts prone to rise and fall all over a muscled leg (pleated, on occasion, sometimes not).

Street-smark Jacobs was wise to turn-out a bevy of biker jackets of all practical and fanciful persuasion (kinky, beefy, streetwise) sure to be winners in the mainstream.

Hollywood types - Depp, Pitt, and Pattinson, for starters - may be inspired to pluck up Jacob's quirky elongated Tuxedo on a fashion whim.

Come Spring (probably sooner), flaunting fashion-conscious dudes and a show-off gym bunny or two will undoubtedly snap up a gauzy (see thru) muscle shirt with armholes down to the waist that casually tease potential suitors when exposing a pumped-up pec or two.

Salvatore Ferragamo, one of my favorite chi-chi designers, trotted out chic suits with a big spotlight on subtle Italian tailoring and styling.

Slim double-breasted suits in fine wool or cotton gabardine will be all the rage when the first flower buds longingly strain for innocent spring skies that herald new prospects for the coming year.

Two-tone shoes, built on simple two-lace tie-up structures, made a welcome entry, too.

Ferre didn't surprise much, instead preferring to stray along mostly-familiar fashion territory with signature design flourishes that have been big sellers for that powerhouse in the past.

The stylish man-about-town may go broke over stand-out stand-alone (entree) pieces enriched with gold embroidery (still a fashion rage and revving up on T-shirts and designer jeans) or tooled in sexed-up body-hugging butter-soft leather.

Sleeveless shirts (tailored in all the right places) may entice a muscled chevron (or bicep) to flex a bit for show when a man's on the prowl.

Some uppity fashion editors did not warm up to Alexander McQueen's vision for Spring.

Just maybe, it was because naughty Alex elected to go a bit cerebral in Milan that week.

Instead of flaunting his collection on stage - so that the keen eyes of the critical fashion press could feast upon the offerings in a practical context on the runway as crafted fabric shells shaped and molded to flow in harmony with body parts and flesh - McQueen elected to present an esoteric video of an emotionally-charged artist smearing clay on walls.

McQueen's jumping-off point when under the fashion gun?

The slightly-balmy designer's off-the-wall presentation of the collection consisting mainly of suits and work wear daubed with paint - strung out on (yawn) plain old racks - underscored that it might be so.

I found the novelty fashion statements - decorated with line drawings, abstract prints, and patchworks - were bang on in view of the trends making leaps and bounds in pop culture circles this past year.

The so-called "lived-in-look" critics have turned a blind eye to - merely signal that the male of the species is becoming more comfortable in his skin - real or imagined.

The most whimsical offerings were out of "Costume National" labelled a collection for "Travelers & Curious Explorers".

Ennio Cpasa featured drop-crotch pants (great for hiking jaunts in France , n'est-ce pas?), ensemble pieces with rough edges to toughen up the image, and macho army boots to anchor any of the fashion fantasies about to take flight.

One design adventure - a cropped satin jacket with floral embroideries - hinted at a romantically-inspired trend to surface next year as the economy picks up, the recession is turned back, and the pleasure principle rails the day on the American fashion front once again.

Can't wait!

Karl Lagerfeld...Optic designer-eyewear big bucks deal!

Flamboyant Lagerfeld style trends

Not content to flop back and count the cash flowing in the till from lucrative licensing agreements with the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation (which currently spins out high-end product for eight brands which include bridal and denim lines, pricey fragrances, and luxurious furs) top-dog designer Karl Lagerfeld recently pacted an exclusive distribution partnership deal with Optic 2000.

Smart move, Karl!

Optic is France's largest optician chain flourishing on his home turf.

Just recently the stylish designer specs were shipped out to 1150 of Optic's prime upscale retail outlets.

The eye-catching line boasts twenty-three pairs of sunglasses, in addition to twenty-five optical frames, which were crafted in close collaboration with Christian Roth and Eric Domege.

Metallic ring features were inspired by Mr. Lagerfeld's finger-jewellery obsession.

Film border motifs also echo the celebrated designer's passion for photography.

For the style conscious a must-have!

Moi?

Because of my scatter-brained tendency to lose chic expensive shades at the drop of a hat, I tend to snap up an expendable pair or two at the 99 cent store during the lazy days of summer.

After all, I'm fashion-conscious enough to dread the thought of being spied among my adoring fans with any pair - stylish or not - affixed to a tawdry string around my neck!

GQ...bows to great wall of China! Conde Nast to spread fashion wings...

Chinese fashion-savvy dudes ready to turn the page for GQ?

Where bejewelled greats once strode the Wall of China under a golden sun in exquisite embroidered silks steeped in exotic perfumes, high priests from the jungles of Fashion Avenue in NYC now dare to tread without foreboding.

Conde Nast whirling style dervishes caught unsuspecting big apple fashionistas by surprise recently when they announced with little fanfare that GQ - the trend-setting style bible of 7th Avenue - intends to spread their wings and venture into the far East and set up shop.

Jonathan Newhouse - the Chairman for the publisher - noted that the slick glossy mag will commence with its first issue in October (2009).

Their exciting new entry onto foreign soil was struck by virtue of a delicious copyright cooperation agreement with the all-powerful China News Service.

"GQ is a flagship title for Conde Nast. We believe the magazine will be a success in the Chinese market," a spokesperson for the Executive Board excitedly gushed to media hounds at a press conference in NYC.

Some tongues are panting, understandably!

The Menswear market appears to be ripe for the picking, fer sure.

For instance, visionary Conde Nast astutely took stock of the landscape before green-lighting the foreign arm, and the figures were staggering.

For starters, the Chinese population peaks right now at 1.3 billion.

Notwithstanding, the abundance of male-only children born after the country implemented its family planning policies of the seventies, underscores the potential for big dollar returns (profit) for the savvy fashion mavens at GQ headquarters.

"The wealthier city-dwelling young men are often referred to by the market research firms as "Little Emperors" with a voracious appetite for luxury goods and designer brands," analysts in the field advised on the heels of the Conde Nast announcement.

But, some pooh-pooh GQ (a late-comer?) for not being ballsier sooner.

Vogue, Self, and Modern Bride entered the Chinese market with confidence moons ago.

In retrospect, GQ executives were inclined to lurk on the sidelines and allow the competition to "test the waters" first.

Now, they're hungry for a slice of the style pie.

Will Conde Nast power-brokers want that plain, heated, or with a dollop of rich cream and maraschino cherry on top?

Dreadlocks (front view)

Dreadlocks (Back View)

Shortly after I popped into Jack-in-the-Box for a breakfast snack, I did a double-take when I spied "J" from Wichita (Kansas) in his beautiful dreadlocks, scruffy little beard, and nose piercing.

Imagine that, he's not even a musician or an artist.

Nope.

The handsome young dude plans to enroll in Business & Science classes at SMC.

Oh boy, how the times are a-changing, eh?

Make-up & Hair...sleek chic "look" for women! Summer (2009)

For summer, the make-up for women is minimalist in nature!

But, when it is applied, it evokes the sensual.

Sleek chic "do's" are almost retro!
