Warren Hellman...quote! Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival...

Millionaire philanthropist at peace with Bluegrass Festival!

In a mellow moment a scant few days ago - during the laid-back run of the ever-popular three-day "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival"  in historic Golden Gate Park in San Francisdco - word filtered back to the financial backer (& selfless founder) - Warren Hellman  - that city officials were anxious to have a pow-wow with the easy-going music lover (and all 'round Patron of the Arts) to chat  about the future of the festival.

Say what?

Hold onto your horses, dudes!

The sly round-about overture orchestrated by a posse of green-eyed monsters downtown at City Hall  - not only inspired the following quote of the day - but triggered a large guffaw or two.

“If the conversation has anything to do with changing the Bluegrass Festival, I have a two-word response for them," Hellman chuckled to all within earshot.

"It’s not Happy Birthday, either."

Ba-dump!!!

And, how was your week?

Snobs...quote!

If a man becomes a snob
it's probably because he's become disenchanted

Judge not...quote!

Any man that jumps to conclusions
without checking the facts first
Or, passes judgment
before hearing both sides of the tawdry tale
is not worthy of befriending
or giving the time of day
And, deserves a thousand lashes
with a limp noodle

What people think...quote!

I used to worry about what people would think
Then, it suddenly dawned on me one day
They usually don't

Fame...quote!

The other day when I cruised into the drive-thru bumper-to-bumper at the fast-food joint - Jack-in-the-box - the perky little server started to hand my order over to me, when her eyes suddenly went wide.

"Don't I know you?" she asked, with an incredulous tone in her voice, as her body slipped into a frozen mode behind the counter.

Yup, I'm familiar with that creeping paralysis wherever I go these days!

Within seconds, the hapless employee recognized me.

What good fortune to have crossed paths with a celebrity!

When I jokingly mentioned the incident to a friend, his response was priceless.

"If they recognize you at take-out at Jack-in-the-box you must be famous."

Good Samaritan...with ulterior motives!

Drats!

Yesterday morning I hopped into my vehicle and there wasn't enough juice in the battery to turn the engine over.

Upon closer inspection, I was able to determine I left my parking lights on.

Duh!

I lifted the hood, nonetheless, and thought I would double-check the wiring to make sure the connections weren't loose.

As I was doing my butch handy-work, a white male cruised up - at which point - I relayed my dilemma.

"Do you have cables," he softly asked.

When I nodded in the affirmative, he paused a beat, then half-whispered through the open window:

"Would you like to get su**ed?"

Well, that wasn't exactly the kind of jump start I was looking for!

Billy Crystal said it best:

"Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place."

UCLA Cafeteria...food servers need a philosophy to follow!

Yestersday morning, I spied a server on the counter at the UCLA cafeteria hastily slapping food down on the plates - in an assembly-line slapdash fashion - with little regard for the customers who deserved better.

Obviously, the young Asian student was trapped in a part-time job she hated to make ends meet, and was just biding her time 'til the end of the shift when she'd be free as a bird once again.

After I witnessed her bad attitude and further established a total lack of excellence in her approach - or any striving for it in her work - a thought crossed my mind.

If I was a server, I'd have a philosophy to follow, to ensure I never slipped up

Unlike sloppy Josephine, I'd treat each meal like it was a plate of food I was specially-preparing for myself.

With a compass like that to guide me throughout the day, just imagine the welcome culinary delights I'd turn out.

Booker T. Washington said it best:

Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way
