Ryan Gosling...Canadian not part of exclusive club? Lighten up! Have a Molson's, eh?

Heartthrob Ryan Gosling whined about the trappings of fame in a recent interview.

As Joe Pesci would say:

"Okay! Okay! Okay!"

Yes, it can be a pain in the toned butt to deal with glare of the spotlight now-and-then!

For example, it takes some skill (and careful maneuvering) to trot down the red carpet (in tandem with the electrically-charged flow without causing static either way), muster up a phony Hollywood-style smile (oh-so pepsodent white!), kiss ass to all the show-biz tabloid reporters jockeying for your undivided attention (so they'll keep all your dark secrets in the closet), and finally, last - but not least -court the frenzied paparazzi so they'll photograph your better side.

But, when it comes to becoming a member of an exclusive club (which boasts the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Martin Short, and Pamela Anderson) - the Canadians - the sexy actor shies away.

"The other day I was walking down the street and this lady was like - 'Ryan Canada' - and gestured to herself. She was like (so Valley boy, Ryan!) - 'I'm from Canada' - and I was like (there 'ya go again!) - 'Oh, OK. Me too.' It's like (!) if you don't recognize the Canadian in them, they're upset. It's like we're all Highlanders, you know? We're all just supposed to know when we're in the same vicinity."

Like, heh, Ryan!

Like, don't you have CAN-DAR, not even a smidgen?

Uh-huh!

I'm a Canuck, too!

Couldn't you tell by the red maple leafs decorating my boxer shorts, or by the Molson's brewski in my sweaty little mutt?

The BURP must have been a dead give-a-way, eh?

"Eh" - now that was quite a clue - eh?

Well, if you don't want to be a member of the exclusive Molson's Canadian Club - then fine - Jim Dandy!

As Columbo would say:

"Oh, there's just one more thing."

Proud Canucks usually get great reviews from journalists in the Beaver Press Club - of which - I am one.

At this juncture - how does it look - for your latest flick "Crazy, Stupid, Love"?

We'll see!

A review will follow.

Former tool-time gal (Home Improvement), VIP star - and fellow Canuck - will be tossing a glittering "Happy Birthday" soiree at the ultra chic Chateau Night Club on Saturday July 30th.

I guess you'll have to show up and count the candles, like moi, eh?

Don 'DMFJ' Johnson will host (also flip the platters) on the Hollywood Icon's special day.

See 'ya there!

Martin Short...guest stint on "How I Met Your Mother" a lure for fans!

One of Canada's national treasures - comedian Martin Short - is returning to the small screen to inhabit a role on the popular CBS Sitcom "How I Met Your Mother".

Short - the star of big-budget screen features such as 3 Amigos (who has also taken on the challenge of demanding dramatic roles in "Damages" and "Law & Order") - has been cast to play the "boss" of one of the regular characters on the ratings-getter in a storyline expected to stretch out over several episodes.

The zany comic has skillfully played a myriad of off-beat (wild!) characters over the years - my favorite being - nutso talk-show interviewer Jiminy Glick (who was featured in Comedy Central's Primetime Glick).

Glick's one-on-one gab-fests with real-life celebrities such as - Bill Maher, David Hasselhoff, Goldie Hawn, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, David Schwimmer, Gene Simmons (Kiss), and Brian Williams - were a real hoot!

The charismatic star has also won numerous awards, including one for a stage performance in "Little Me" (which earned him a Tony Award).

Martin - break a leg - eh?

Justin Bieber...PEOPLE cover goofy! Pop star cries foul...

When a artist graces the cover of PEOPLE magazine, they’ve arrived in many respects.

But, in view of the complaints emanating out of the Justin Bieber camp, mainstream images beaming out to the masses is not always a palpable one, welcomed with open arms by the subject.

Shortly after Pop Culture’s “Bible”of  celebrity tattle released a promo on their new darling - Justin Bieber - he roared his disapproval by way of the almighty tweet.

If fans read between the lines, it was obvious.

Bieber hates the squeaky-clean - almost scary - photograph that stares out goofily from the popular weekly on the newstands around the country.

The mouth, for example, is so pepsodent!

Also, it appears that PEOPLE facilitated some photo-shop magic to effect the image of a wholesome all-American pop star (in spite of the fact he’s Canadian).

Ah, it’s the nature of the beast.

Once fame has knocked on a celebrity’s door, the perceptions of the individual become twisted and distorted (triggered by a ravenous press out to manipulate - and eventually devour - their latest caged animal).

I expect that in the near future, Bieber’s handlers will start requesting editorial control, choice of pics, you name it.

Like Streisand, before him, there may be clandestine efforts to protect and promote the persona that fits their vision of the sizzling hot pop star in the early throes of his career on talk shows and at high-profile celebrity events.

If you recall, Barbra Streisand demanded Oprah Winfrey rearrange the furniture on her set, so the Diva's  better side (is there one?) was facing camera.

Antics like that earned La Streisand the title of “Super C**t”.

For good reason, celebrities lay down a lot of cold hard cash to snap up a bevy of expert handlers to usher them up the ladder of success without any burps (or nasty gaffes) causing stumbles along the way.

Superstars are not immune to fatal missteps in the fickle arena - otherwise known as the Hollywood Dream Factory - though.

When Tom Cruise took a dive from his lofty perch (in part due to the infamous couch-jumping scene on Oprah) foes clucked with glee.

No wonder!

Just months prior, Cruise parted ways with the all-powerful well-connected Hollywood public relations team,  once watching over him with hawk-like precision.

Cruise has never recovered from the fallout.

As to Bieber, well it’s not all roses, by any means.

For some inexplicable reason, TMZ has  chosen to knock the kid marvel (with a  No. 1 hit record and a posse of adoring fans "following"  every move).

On one segment, Harvey &  the kids gleefully referred to Bieber as a gruesome virus spreading around the Nation.

The mischievous gossip mongers tend to broadcast off-the-wall embarrassing photos, too, whenever they're offered up by a watchful paparazzi quick on the uptake.

For example, one cynical photog captured a shot of a Bieber billboard captioned - “My World” - atop a strip joint known as “Crazy Girls”.

I caught the whiz kid slip - and reveal  a cocky ill-mannered side - when he plunked his foot down on the coffee table during an appearance on the Jay Leno show.

Right about now, the industry is panting at the mouth, for a delicious Bieber scandal.

If God smiles on me, I may be the lucky one to break the news first.

Eat your heart out, Harvey!

Justin Bieber...fans chase Pop Idol down London Streets!

In the wake of surge of frenzied fans descending on his motorcade as he exited a London Studio - Pop heart-throb Justin Bieber - was forced to tweet an urgent message to ecstatic fans.

"Don't bang on the car windows. Someone might get hurt," he cautioned from inside the comfy environs of a chauffered vehicle as a mob of anxious girls overtaken by emotion swarmed all around with the hope of catching a mere glimpse of the object of their desire.

Justin Bieber is the latest pop sensation to break onto the entertainment scene at the tender age of 16.

The cute singer - discovered on YouTube by a jaded music promoter (Scooter Braun) with a keen eye towards talent - soared into the lofty teeny-bopper stratosphere shortly after an audition with USHER resulted in a recording contract with Island records which struck chart-topping gold.

Subsequently, Bieber is currently taking the world by storm.

The 1st part of a two-part debut album titled - "My World" - has been well-received by music critics, too.

A handful of the original tunes - "One Time", "One Less Lonely Girl", "Love Me", and "Favorite Girl" - took off like a bullet and landed in the top 15 slot on the Canada's Hot 100 and Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Bieber is the only musician in Billboard history to have four singles from a debut album chart in the Top 40 of the Hot 100 before an album's actual release.

In the first week after its initial splash onto the music scene, Bieber was able to boast that 137,000 copies flew off the shelves, no problem..

In fact, "My World" debuted at #1 on the Canadian Albums Chart and went Gold in a week.

In less than a month the album was certified Platinum in Canada.

Bieber became the first artist to have all songs from a single album to chart in the U.S. Hot 100, too.

"I sing about girls," he confessed ruefully to one reporter in a recent interview after admitting pretty young ladies turned him on.

Because of his own crush on Beyonce - who he met recently amid a lot of fanfare - he understands the need to give his fans a bit of up-close personal attention whenever possible.

"I give them a hug. Sign autographs, that sort-of-thing," he beamed.

Of late, Bieber has been a mainstay on popular shows on the TV circuit such as Lopez Tonight, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Chelsea Lately, and Good Morning America (to name a few), which has heightened his International image somewhat.

The likeable musical phenomenon sang for the President and the 1st lady recently at a White House Christmas celebration which was a televised event to benefit the National Children's Medical Center.

High-profile events such as these have caused many to tout Bieber as a positive influence on North American youth.

Just prior to a recent trek on stage to perform, the singer huddled with his devoted handlers for a moment of prayer, which also sat well with the squeaky clean image he savors.

But, every day on the concert trail is not all that rosy, though.

At a scheduled concert in Long Island, for instance, a near riot broke out due to a crowd control problem which got out of hand.

Allegedly - after a fan screamed out that Bieber was in a local Abercrombie Kids store - mayhem broke out as concert-goers swarmed the retail outlet.

Police feared that the crowd (cramming the mall's upstairs corridor) would force a metal-and-glass railing to snap and possible send hundreds of girls tumbling to the lower level.

Therefore, the police denied entry to Bieber because of the potential danger.

"It was so crazy that I couldn't get to even come in the building," the singer lamented later on a popular radio show.

No hoody purchases that day, folks!

"They basically threatened to put me in cuffs and send me away to jail."

Oh my Gosh!

The price of Pop Stardom, I guess!

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus...escapist bill-of-fare entertains! Johnny Depp & Christopher Plummer stellar performances...

Christopher Plummer remarkable!

If you're pining for a total escape from reality, Gilliam' breathtaking feature film - The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassum - just may be the ticket worthing springing a few hard-earned bucks on.

The stunning imagery, well-crafted sets, and remarkable fanciful world created on celluloid, is worth the price of admission alone.

Christopher Plummer plays Doctor Parnassus, a mystical character who appears to be walking a tightrope between fantasy and reality, after having sold his soul to the devil  (played spendidly by actor Tom Waits).

In his prophetic hands, Parnassus holds the power of imagination, which he steadfastly (and stealthfully) uses at whim to temp souls - and ultimately - hopefully reign supreme over his slippery adversary (where he imagines peace and harmony await him the end scenario with open arms).

The Imaginarium - on its face - seems to be a mindless carnival sideshow rife with adventure and folly and with all the visual stimulation of a potent LSD trip into whimsical dream-like realms.

Curiously, as it turns out, stepping into the imaginarium (by virtue of a two-way mirror in a circus tent) forces the hapless victim to come face-to-face with their inner demons, all-encompassing desires, and the like.

Couple this with the fact that actor Heath Ledger met his early demise during the course of filming - and the whole kit-and-kaboodle - becomes downright intriguing.

Gilliam turned to Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell to help tidy up loose ends for the imaginarium of  Heath's own soul-searching character (left dangling when the tragedy unfolded unexpectedly before the shoot was wrapped).

Script changes explained away Heath's transformative persona onscreen  in a plot line that was all over the map - and thus, made sense - in the final analysis.

In a fascinating plot twist, it turns out that Parnassus's mortal daughter sprang up from the loins of one of the Devil's diabolical temptations, which boosts the stakes higher for the wizard at odds with his nemesis.

To the film's credit, Gilliam has lent his extraordinary storytelling skills with flair (confidence) and aplomb.

The acting - in particular that of Johnny Depp, Christophe Plummer and Colin Farrel - is exceptional; in fact, I could not find fault or flaw anywhere with the characterizations or acting styles facilitated to conjure them up seamlessly on the silver screen.

Perhaps it was the magical gift of Gilliam that managed to keep all the actors enthralled.

Ah, what a  taskmaster!

By the way, this is one screening you'd be wise to sit through 'til the final credit has rolled.

Each contributor's name is artfully scripted with eye-catching distinction before the curtain falls down.

And, at one point - a nod to Heath Ledger & friends - brings a tear to the eye.

What might have been!

Heath Ledger's last bow!
