Mr. Manners (aka Julian Ayrs)...Etiquette at gym! No peeing in shower!

Occasionally, the TMZ kids flirt with raunchy material that may raise an eyebrow or two.

For example, recently Harvey Levin wondered aloud if it was kosher to pee in the shower at the gym!

"Eugh," was the immediate knee-jerk reaction of his pups on the popular night-time tabloid show.

According to Mr. Manners, golden showers in a public facility is a definite "no-no".

Unless you're an inmate at the local slammer!
For starters?

Releasing urine into the stall is not only bad manners, but beyond primitive.

Even savages in the wilds are inclined to trot behind a huge spreading oak - or leafy canopy - to relieve themselves when nature calls.

Though one of the MTV lads conjectured that the practice may be acceptable if a stud muffin aims with precision at the drain, Mr. Manners urges restraint.

"Put a clamp on it, guys!"

"There is a splash effect, 'ya know?"

In the final analysis?

Any classy gym bunny (especially one who is "gay") is sure to swagger over to the urinal or - in the alternative - squat in the toilet stall raring to go.

And, whether prissy or not, he just might reach for a soft tissue to wipe the end of his "Johnson" when the manly task has been performed (if only to guarantee no unsightly stains will soil his precious tight-whities, 'ya know?).

By the way, it should go without saying that masturbating in the shower stall is also frowned upon.

If a studly guy next to 'ya triggers a boner, hook up later, eh?

Take it home, fellas!

When it comes to equipment - the gym's, not yours - be sure to have a clean "cum" towel on hand to wipe off the leather or vinyl so your sweat doesn't rub club members the wrong way either.

A tip to the straight guy on the prowl?

Men sweat, but women perspire!

That little nugget of wisdom may maneuver 'ya into the sack, just betcha.

Finally, don't be offended if a handsome son-of-a-gun strides up and asks if he can "work in" on the machine while you're in the midst of your set.

Obviously, he's hot to trot, with you!

Have a good work-out.

And a sauna, too.

CRUNCH...state-of-the-art gym in West Hollywood!

Exercise work-outs on tap!

I woke up this morning and my muscles were racked in pain.

Ah, that was a good sign!

My work-out last night did the trick and got me moving in the right direction body-wise.

Over the years, I have always endeavoured to keep in shape.

But, over the course of the past six months - things have been so hectic - that I let my gym membership slide!

Now, I am paying for it.

Until this week, when a couple of "trial offers" flew into my mailbox from a couple of the local body-building palaces.

As I noted in a post a couple of days ago - a 7-day free week at Gold's - was just a scam to get me in the door so their salesmen (and sales-ladies) could hit me with some fast-talking jive, and thus, manipulate me into a long-term contract at the trendy outlet on Cole (Hollywood).

Needless to say, I passed on that sleazy outfit.

Post:  12/18/10

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/12/golds-gymfree-pass-scam-consumer-alert.html

In contrast, it was smooth sailing when I sauntered into CRUNCH on Sunset Boulevard in WeHo to take a gander at their free trial offer.

Once I handed off a coupon I downloaded from my Yahoo mailbox, they waived me inside.

"Enjoy your work-out. We'll talk at the end of the week," a Manager beamed with no strings attached.

You got me at "hello"!

In fact, I was impressed with the lay-out of the gym right off-the-bat.

In spite of the fact CRUNCH has been a mainstay in the neighborhood for quite a few years, I didn't spy any worn carpets - or run-down work-out equipment - in a two-level environment that screamed out "class".

The black wall-to-wall floor mattes - which cushion and pamper underfoot - complement the state-of-the-art machines that are crafted in slate grey with cobalt-blue highlights.

And, the upbeat mood-elevating music piped in to the environment by a discerning hip DJ is a plus, too.

A bank of treadmills and cycles on one end of the facility is situated just below a row of wide-screen television sets so that members (and guests) may keep up on the news, or their latest episode of a comedy hit, as they burn off calories and get in shape.

By the end of the invigorating work-out - just betcha - most dudes will plop down in the steam room (or sauna) for a relaxing moment or two as well.

Two thumbs up!

Gold's Gym...free pass scam! Consumer alert...

Local gyms are hip to the fact that during the Yuletide season, folks are going to be partying-hearty, and sampling the finer treats that life has to offer around this time each year.

And, that means, stuffing their mouths with all manner of delectable calorie-laden goodies laced with wicked trans fats.

Needless to say, by the end of December - as the New Year is about to be rung in - a few body-conscious dudes & dudettes are going to be thumbing through the yellow pages in search of a gym to join (with the ultimate aim of shedding the extra deadweight come-hell or high-water).

Personally, I don't like to be embarrassed when I take off my clothes, so that is a good enough incentive for me to hit the treadmill, pronto!

Unfortunately, disreputable gyms - keen on fleecing your wallet - will be flogging a handful of clever promotions on the premise that they are offering up discounted membership  deals that will meet your slimming & trimming needs.

Wrong!

For instance, Gold's Gym - once renowed for being a work-out palace that catered exclusively to body-builders - has entered the mainstream with all-manner of scams that are appealing on the surface.

However, the dishonest club owners have simply manipulated the specifics to deceitfully get unsuspecting "suckers" in the door - at which point - the free week or two offered up initially magically vanishes into thin air.

"Victims" of high-pressure sales tactics will find themselves signing on the dotted line for monthly fees - that are not only through the roof, but also, a good deal pricier than that of the competition.

I say, avoid Gold's scam artists, ike the plague.

24 Hour Fitness and Crunch - and a handful of other full-service gyms in the neighborhood - are better bets and run by honest management who won't try to rip 'ya off.

Cheers!

The Sports Club...LA fitness club has great ambience! Deceptive business practices...

One day I flung open the mail box and a slick high-quality brochure dropped into my open hand.

Upon close inspection, I determined that it was an invitation to try out a local gym in Beverly Hills.

On the surface, the offer tucked inside appeared to be quite a generous one.

At first glance, I gathered that the Sports Club (with locations in major cities around the U.S.) was urging me to take advantage of 1 free month at the gym.

Most work-out joints - like Gold's Gym & 24-hour fitness - tend to hand-out 7-day try-outs max.

I suppose I should have been suspicious when I realized later that because the envelope wasn't posted until approximately the 11th of February, I would only have the opportunity to take the club up on their offer for the remainder of the month (17 days).

Was the failure to pop the invite in the mail  'til the middle of the month deliberate or just an oversight?

Next to having a root canal, signing up for a "gym membership" tends to be high on my list of aggravations to avoid, if possible.

The reason is quite simple.

Once you're in the door - even before you have savored a free stint at the facility - high-pressure salesmen(sharks) will pester potential "suckers" until they cave in (or run straight-away to the nearest exit).

Sure enough, that's what went down, when I strode in the door and met up with  a company rep by the name of Ashton.

After taking me on a tour of the luxurious upscale facility, he gestured for me to plunk myself down and discuss the options (there were three to choose from).

Since I have dealt with many car salesmen over the years, I dug my heels in, and let him rattle off his speel.

Once the delivery was over, I noted that I was an adult (who didn't rush into things), and that I would prefer to try out the facility (per the offer) and reflect on whether to join or not.

At this juncture, Ashford informed me that I couldn't have the free month without buying a membership first.

Huh?

With a hand gesture, and a bit of misspeak, he stabbed a finger at one line in the middle of the page of the invitation.

"With an active membership. It says right here," he swiftly noted in a stern authoratative voice.

At this point, I was taken aback to learn that in addition to the month-to-month membership fees, each member was required to pay dues every four weeks as well.

Gosh, you'd think I was purchasing a Condo, for heaven's sake.

Over the past twenty years or so, I have joined a myriad of gyms - and not once - have I  encountered this kind of monthly/dues fee structure.

Later, when I scrutinized the invite up close with my reading glasses firmly affixed to my nose, I also discovered that  "Ashford" misrepresented the disclaimer for the offer which amounted to a deceptive business practice.

Although he asserted the phrase stated "with an active membership" - in truth - it actually read something else entirely different.

"Call the club today to arrange for a membership," it read in much smaller print.

There was no disclosure (contrary to what Ashford said)  that a waiver of the "initiation fee" required that monthly dues (under one of the three plans) be purchased up-front first to receive the "special" offer.

Notwithstanding, who the heck wants to pay an initiation fee AND monthly dues each month?

What a crock!

When I attempted to discreetly bow out, Ashford was unrelenting.

"Okay. I'll let you have one free week to try out the Sports Club."

So, I took him up on it.

Even though his offer was pretty straightforward, he still  tried to screw me out of a day.

For example, when I strode in for the pep talk and to tour the club, it was February 13th.

After he presented me with a temporary membership card, I noticed later in the locker room, that he inserted February 19th as the expiry date.

I thought that 13 and 7 totalled 20.

 Doesn't it?

The first day I checked in tot he Sports Club to take oadvantage of the free pass, the counter person noticed the error right away.

We both shook our heads!

Although it is doubtful I'll join the club for the foregoing reasons - and because it is just too pricey in my estimation - I have to admit that the Sports Club is the finest gym I have run across in the Los Angeles area to date.

The decor was luxurious and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, for starters.

All the equipment was state of the art, kept up, and easy to use.

Also, the club boasts a spacious sundeck, junior Olympic swimming pool, basketball courts, laundry service, and tastefully-decorated locker rooms.

After working out each day, I was inclined to relax in the luxurious steam room, too.

In addition to the work out (weight)  rooms, there was a yoga center and a massage parlour situated in a subdued atmosphere out-of-the-way off the main thoroughfare.

Forget about hauling  a gym bag or a lock or deodorant to the Sports club.

The mensroom has an ample supply of razors, hair gel, body soap (and free towel service).

Select a locker that is available, plunk your clothes inside, then create your own password which releases the lock when you check out.

No tacky locks to fiddle with or coins to pop in.

There is also an entertainment center where guests (on the higher-end pay plan) can watch TV, snack on tasty treats, you name it.

While you're in the club, send out your day's wardrobe for cleaning and pressing, too.

Want to entertain friends for dinner?

Just make a reservation at Oliver's restaurant which fronts on Wilshire Blvd in tony Beverly Hills (in the golden triangle) a hop-and-a-skip away.

Maybe I'll reconsider if I win the lottery or a rich uncle dies!

Tony Beverly Hills!

Jane Fonda...tired old grouch!

Jane's G spot!

When Jane Fonda (infamous for using the "c" word on morning talk shows) breezed out of a function the other evening, the over-the-hill starlet was confronted with a gaggle of fans and a swarm of paparazzi.

With her head down - and tinted shades in a snug fit on her snoz (in spite of the fact it was the twilight hour) - the Barbarella babe was inclined to sign a handful of autographs grudgingly.

But, the bad attitude of the jaded old grouch got the best of her when TV newsies (TMZ crew among 'em) fielded a few questions her tired old way.

"Who has the best work-out video," one asked enthusiastically.

Without batting an eye, the star flung out an acid retort.

"I don't care!"

Undaunted, another cub reporter asked Fonda what she thought of the Obama stimulus package.

"Stimulating," she huffed in exasperation.

Keeping you up late, Missy?

Before the seventy-something show-biz trooper stormed off (in what appeared to be a drug-induced stupor) she was quizzed about who she'd like to tread the boards with again.

Ignoring the thrust of the question, she selfishly lamented:

"I like to work!"

By the time Ms. Fonda (who was ushered into show biz on the good graces of her respected father - yeah, Jane's just another spoiled show biz kid - born with a clap board in her big mouth) stormed off, a fan or two appeared to be at-the-ready to wipe their a** with her signature.

Wouldn't you? After all, her conduct was deplorable.

They didn't call the once-perky dame "Hanoi Jane" for no good reason!
