Dancing with the Stars...Steeler Hines Ward wins coveted Mirrorball Trophy! Kirstie scores slightly behind!

Kirstie Alley was left holding a pair of worn dance shoes tonight with not much to show for it on "Dancing With the Stars" when Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward roared from the sidelines to snatch up the coveted Mirrorball Trophy at the end of - what turned out to be - dazzling season on the highly-rated entertaining show.

"Starting this competition, I never thought I'd be in the finals, but I owe it all to Kym. She's an amazing teacher," a Hines gushed, after hearing the exciting news

Hines thanked the judges for egging him on - and likewise - encouraging him to persist in a competition which eventually led him on to a championship season on the dance floor!

The football star expressed a lot of gratitude to all his fans back in Pittsburgh for standing behind him and cheering him on.

"We love Steeler Nation, Bulldog Nation (University of Georgia)... I hope I represented well," he said.

Although Kirstie took 2nd place, she underscored to the hosts of the show ( dapper Tom Bergeron and pretty Brooke Burke) that the dance competition on "Stars" thoroughly impacted her in many respects.

"It's like the most extraordinary adventure I've ever been on in my life and I want to thank Maks."

At this juncture, she turned in his direction, and uttered up her sentiments.

"I love Maks," she gushed sincerely.

"It's been a special season," Maks responded.

"But I don't only have words for Kirstie, I have words for the previous nine partners I had because this is the 10th trophy that I got and thank you for this, this has been an amazing, amazing season."

How were the winners determined, you might ask?

Hines and Kym beat Kirstie and Maks to the top spot based on a 50 percent weight given to the viewer votes, and the other half to the judges' scores.

In a nutshell?

When Hines and Kym chose a Steelers-inspired samba it undoubtedly put them over the top with a perfect 30 out of 30 score.

"You bring every dance to life," head judge Len Goodman roared in approval!

There were great kudos for Kirstie Alley, too, from a second judge.

"Kirstie, you cheeky girl, you saved the best for last," judge Bruno Tonioli said.

"You've never danced better. B
rilliant.".

'Til next year!

Dancing with the Stars...Kirstie Alley hoofs! Sequined shopsy sausage debut!

Kirstie pretty beneath all the lard!

"Cheeky," roared Bruno Tonioli , as the studio audience hooted-and-hollered, and a dolled up Kirstie Alley struggled to catch her breath, after a pretty dazzling spin on the the dance floor last night at ABC TV Studios.

In fact, right up 'til the vote count, her "girls"continued to heave heavily from the strain of the high-spirited strenuous work-out she'd just performed to perfection (according to the excited Judges, that is).

On her much-ballyhooed "opening night" on "Dancing with the Stars", the former "Cheers" star (once-married to the "big one" Parker Stevenson") was ecstatic for having nabbed kudos from the cooing (normally-discerning) eagle-eyed adjudicators on the sidelines.

Unfortunately, the par-tay frock Ms. Alley tossed on accentuated the unsightly and the obese - um - obvious (to her frumpy detriment).

The body-fitting threads (cut high-on-the-leg and low-on-the-chest) cried out for the Fashion Police to storm the stage - spread-eagle the ballsy-bimbo-babe, cuff-her - and haul her off for a stint in flab rehab (to be sure!).

Kirstie's appearance was somewhat reminiscent of a sequined sausage (from my bird's eye in the wings).

Free-floating fabric would have been preferable to the "stuffed-in" (hanging-out?) look that - inevitably - failed to conceal a truckload of midnight munchies that had taken their toll on her once body-electric of starlet yesteryears.

To her credit, Ms. Alley elected to trot out in chic black, and avoided the perils of dreaded (God-awful) bold-patterns-extraordinaire (think mu mu) that hefty gals are inclined to don when they hunker down in search of a security blanket.

If Ms. Alley hires on a skilled fashion designer in coming weeks - a wizard sensitive to her special needs - the remainder of her stint on "Dancing with the Stars" may be worth tuning into.

Kirstie, I say a little prayer for you!

Bristol Palin...dethroned on ABC TV's Dancing with Stars! Jennifer Grey snags prize!

Amid a sea of controversy - Bristol Palin slipped off her ruby red slippers and skulked away into the good night from whence she came - on Tuesday eve.

Her last hurrah?

In spite of the bold-faced deceitful efforts of a posse of Republican Tea Party upstarts to catapult Sarah Palin's daughter into the winning slot on "Dancing with the Stars" - pretty Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing) and Derek Hough (handsome professional dance cutie) - prevailed and snatched up the glittering disco ball!

The feat was not accomplished without a lot of sweat and tears, though.

In fact, in the final hours of the heady competition, Grey threw a disc in her spine after dancing her little heart out to a captive live! audience.

In recent weeks - fans of the hit show bit their nails nervously as they cursed the TV screen in disgust (one dude shot his screen out) - at what was shamelessly going down on the popular entertainment show.

Although more talented "dazzling" contestants scored high with the show's competent (professional) judges - for some inexplicable reason - the Alaskan tart (Palin) continued to score big-time with her sloppy dips and awkward two-steps with viewers around the country and at home.

By the time Levi's ex shot into the top slot, critics began to cry foul!

Were Sarah Palin's Republican Tea Party supporters in the political arena stuffing the ballot box at the ABC web site online???

At this juncture, a furor erupted in the blogosphere, and eleswhere!

Once the word was out, the viewing public fought back fervently to "right the wrong".

On Tuesday night, for example, a multitude of fans - anxious to vote for the best dancers (Grey & Hough) - overwhelmed the site with legitimate nods.

And, in the aftermath - after the ballots were tabulated - the deserving talented twosome were named top dogs on "Dancing with the Stars".

That just goes to show 'ya.

Hell hath no fury like an American viewing audience scorned!

Talk about a reality check, Sarah.

Later?

You betcha!

Ed Sullivan...laughing in the grave! Blog snafus keep me on toes!

This morning I awoke suddenly - and sat bolt upright in my bed - with one thought on my mind.

Ooops!

Something must be up at the old blog!

Whenever I get a "psychic nudge" from the great beyond - it usually means that there has been a screw-up at the web site - so I am inclined to get on the fast track and figure out where!

I got an inkling that it was something to do with that regular "Dancing with the Stars" upstart - Bristol Palin - who I penned a post on last night before putting the blog to bed for the day.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/11/dancing-with-starscrystal-palin-scandal.html

Uh-huh!

After scanning the article this morning, it popped right out at me!

Bristol was mistakenly identified as "Crystal" in reference to her appearance on the top-rated weekly Television show.

After reviewing the edits this morning - it became abundantly clear - that "spell check" software inadvertently changed her name to "Crystal" right under my nose.

Go figure!

What kind of a Christian name is "Bristol" anyhow???

Count on some "loser" like Sarah Palin to curse her daughter with a moniker like that, eh?

The whole incident reminded me of Ed Sullivan!

Mr. Sullivan - the popular host of the Sunday Night Variety Show that aired on the old boob tube for years - was known to often trip-up when it came to the names of his guests.

Indeed, he often got 'em wrong, mispronounced the little suckers, and what-have-you!

Over the years, it was part 'n parcel, of the legend's overall charm!

Notwithstanding - it should be noted that newspapers and tabloid gossip rags - are often forced to follow up with "corrections" in their publications, too.

In spite of a posse of fact-checkers and eagle-eyed editors at their constant disposal - more-often-than-not - members of the illustrious press bound to make mistakes along the way.

Especially when you consider - that there are a bevy of B-list players parading across the show-biz terrain daily these days - that are difficult to keep track of.

They are hardly worth the effort, I dare say!

In my own instant case, I laugh it off.

A handful of these personalities are so low in stature in the show-biz arena - that they don't warrant closer scruitny - in my estimation.

They (like Bristol Palin) are just a stone's throw away from being has-been's, after all.

The fall-out yesterday did play-out to my advantage, though.

Indeed!

The hits zoomed into the stratrosphere as word-of-mouth spread that Bristol had been mistakenly referred to as "Crystal" in the scandalous post on "The Tattler" and elsewhere on the Internet.

What an insult to the little tart, eh?

I can live with that!

On the other hand - I never claimed to be perfect - for that matter.

If I was, I'd be on the "other side", free from the shackles that currently bind me to this mortal coil!

The truth will set 'ya free!

You betcha.

Dancing with Stars...Bristol Palin scandal! Fans irate over ballot-stuffing!

In recent weeks, in spite of less-than-stellar dance routines, Bristol Palin has managed to finesse her way to the top of the "Dancing with the Stars" hopeful heap much to the chagrin of  hateful detractors sharpening their daggers on the sidelines.

What accounts for this remarkable phenomenon?

Tea Party Republicans have allegedly hurt the integrity of the ballot-box at the ABC website - by casting excessive double (and maybe triple votes) on her behalf - according to angry viewers who are livid at the prospect of the tarted-up little tramp winning the coveted glitter ball.

Indeed!

On a couple of occasions when I tuned in to catch the top-rated glitzy entertainment bill-of-fare - I couldn't help but notice that the plump homely-looking contestant - with no star quality to speak of - was a mediocre dancer at best!.

Is dirty politics at the crux of it?

There outta be a law.

News at 11!

Dancing with the Stars...the big 3 waltz to the finish! Glitzy (Mirror) ball within grasp...

The fashions (if that is what you'd call 'em) were fabulous darling (more flesh than flash on occasion), a celebrity Judge strutted his stuff weekly in the language of love, and talented choreographers spun out dazzling dance routines that wowed.

Sadly - the vastly Entertaining /Variety bill-of-fare - wraps tonight.

Like grand old lady, Dancing with Stars bows out gracefully.

If you caught last week's high-energy segment, the names of the contestants heading down the home stretch, will trip trillingly across the tongue.

Tonight,  dancers - Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Nicole Scherzinger &  Derek Hough, and Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya are going to compete for that great big glitter ball in the sky.

PEOPLE magazine will be there, too, to capture the evening's exciting festivities, for posterity sake, and to offer up a peek backstage where alot of the magic is first conjured up.

See 'ya there!

Erin Andrews...Kids @ TMZ lament! She's a fu**ing Bit**!

Although TMZ has gotten a bit fluffy on the TV version (which airs at 7:30  nightly) occasionally the kids who do Harvey Levin's bidding trigger a guffaw or two.

For example, when a posse of TMZ staffers cornered Erin Andrews last night outside a nightclub, the moment appeared to be brimming with possibilities.

Bruno had just uttered up an "F" bomb in a passionate moment during the dazzling semi-finals broadcast - and if fate were to smile on them - a probe into her gut reaction might turn up a delicious coupe for the No. 1 tabloid-style gossip show.

But, try as they would, Erin was a tough hoe to row.

Wait a minute, did I get that backwards?

Well, you get the drift, I expect.

When one of the cub reporters asked the former news anchor what she thought of Bruno's naughty slip of the tongue, she shrugged in an annoyed fashion.

Where did this riff-raff come from, she appeared to be thinking to herself, as she gazed on them with disdain.

"Well, the remark wasn't aimed at me. So, I don't care," she snapped coldly.

From the look on her face, you'd think she was afraid she'd catch some dreaded social disease,  if she didn't keep her distance from these rude overbearing interlopers running interference during her festive night out on-the-town.

A couple of rapid-fire questions didn't manage to penetrate the Ice Queen either.

In the final analysis, Ms. Andrews came off a trifle standoffish.

A cold fish, was the impression I got.

Later, at the TMZ lair, three of the newsies in the bull room were asked one by one about their thoughts on her demeanor last night.

The poll was unanimous.

"Bit**," one twenty-something male blurted out when asked.

"Bit**," a female staffer added with an edge in her voice when the camera zoomed in on her.

"Bit**," another miffed employee piped up.

It was one of those precious TV moments that shall remain etched in my memory for many moons to come.

Just bitchin', dudes!

Meanwhile, Ms. Goody two-shoes returns next week to kick up her heels and scratch her way to glory.

Dancing with the Stars..tonight Miley a caged musical animal! Bruno's "F" bomb! Semi-finals dazzling...

It must have been the eye-popping glimpse of flesh that tripped up Bruno!

Shortly after one male dancer stepped up with his partner to await their score, the normally-unflappable Judge, unexpectedly experienced what host Tom Bergeron referred to as a "pre-paddle".

When Bruno raised his score card he shouted out "NINE".

But, on the face of the paddle, the number on display was a ten.

I speculate that the male dancer's shirt - a see-through erotic number in torquoise revealing well-pumped pecs - got Bruno so excited that he ejaculated beyond his original intention.

Spontaneous moments like that make "Dancing with the Stars" all the more titillating.

Speaking of which - the weekly bump-and-grind show - appears to have been transformed into a wild sexy peep show - and the heck with dancing - darling!

Just kidding, of course.

But surely you agree with me that each week the popular ratings-getting has been pushing the envelope within a hair's breath of the censor's knife.

In that, there was a startling boo-boo last night near the Judge's podium that caught everyone off guard.

Did Bruno utter up the "F" bomb?

Tom reacted with lightning speed to smooth over the storm of emotion that clouded the moment.

"That's what the censors get paid for," he shrugged.

One of the highlights of the fast-paced high-energy show was a performance by Derek and his pretty partner Nicole (who has been consistently knocking-out the judges, the studio audience, and viewers at home each week).

Bruno, not one to hold back, gushed that she was a divine enchantress who "drew us deeper and deeper into a love spell."

A female Judge was in tears.

"That was profound incredible dancing," she wailed without shame.

Although Derek's routine was perfection, his wardrobe choice left a lot to be desired.

Golly, the kid either lost a lot of weight lately, or his dresser snatched an oversized suit from the mothballs by mistake because he was swimming in fabric.

The actual silhouette - in black and sparked up with blood-red tie and pocket pouffe - suited him to a "t", nonetheless.

Len, in a tongue-twisting moment, finally blurted out that Nicole was more delicious than his grandmother's apple pie.

By the way, this sizzling routine scored the winsome twosome a perfect score of 30.

In-between segments, the audience was treated to a voluptuous Brooke, packed into a sensual skin-tight cocktail dress sexed up with black leather trim..

Too tight, Brooke, folds of skin were buckling at your underwarm, dear.

By the way, was that "all" her?

Or, were sophisticated lift-and-thrust design techniques at work?

Meanwhile, Chad and Cheryl were lauded for their stand-out performance.

Len took a moment to congratulate Chad (the sports athlete) for maneuvering his way to the semi-finals in true style.

"The waltz was fantastic."

The get-up the designers crammed him into was God-awful!

He clowned around in a see-through peach-colored blouse - with a skirt-like effect at the upper waist - which actually revealed a VPL (visible pants line) whenever he turned his back to the judges, TV Cameras,  and studio audience.

Tacky!

Surprisingly, no one seemed to notice that his odd-ball dress mu mu was tugging incessantly in a nasty fashion at his chest.

No wonder he tossed the restricting fashion disaster off at the end of the segment.

At which point, the studiio audience went wild.

What a physique.

A quick-witted cameraman zoomed  in on Kareem Abdul Babar grinning at his buddy from the sidelines.

Bruno - normally Chad's toughest critic -shouted out his assessment.

"You're a star!"

Cheryl's sequined dress was soft and feminine and suited her complexion and skin tone

Evan (Olympic skater) was in top form last night, too.

"I have a problem letting go," he admitted in a segment which focused on his remarkable progress during the run of the hit-getter on the ABC weekly dance show.

With ease, he pulled off light kicks, tricky moves, and standard steps without looking back.

Kevin and Anna landied a standing ovation.

Bruno underscored that the artistry and musicality was there, but it was the happy-go-lucky manner in which the routine was carried out that appealed so widely.

"Talk about sparkle! Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney came alive."

A Judge usually inclined to criticize Evan for not connecting  was elated with what unfolded before her there on the ABC stage.

Evan confessed that after coming down off the Olympics, he was anxious to jump into an entertainment show such as "Dancing" because he wanted to do something fun and also learn how to dance.

A flashback of Erin - anchoring a local news show - was hilarious.

The popular contestant actually "thanked the audience for tuning"  in with the help of a teleprompter!

Surely, she could have just winged it, don't 'ya think?

If you missed "Stars" tonight, there will be a lot of frenzied chatter to catch up on at the water cooler, tomorrow morning.

Erin wore a gold lame skirt open in front, skimpy black panties, and knee high boots,

All she needed was a whip, and a dildo, and she'd be in business on Hollywood Blvd.

Bruno summed it up this way with tongue-in-cheek.

"A hot chick with a nasty dude."

Maxx was a turn-on in a sexy black leather vest and tight-fitting slacks that was an obvious tribute to Silverlake.

Len was confused.

"What was that?  A funky monkey, I guess. I don't know whether to vote on dance technique, the performance, or the talent," he scoffed in so many words.

Personally, I was shocked at the sight of  Erin's chunky thighs and unattractive wooden legs.

Tom chuckled that fans could catch Maxx in his regional production of Spartacus.

Whew!

What a fantastic glittering night.

Tonight, the Fox hit, will focus on the musical musings of Miley Cyrus and Sarah McLaughlin.

In fact, Miley is slated to turn up hot-to-trot in a cage!

Say what?

Kate Gosselin...gets boot from "Dancing". Lost spark yesterday morning...

Kate & Tony in happier segments!

To paraphrase a quote from the big ballsy musical "Chicago":

"She had it coming."

And, to many, it was obvious.

Yesterday morning, for instance, a disc jokey made the observation in a one-on-one interview with Ms. Gosselin - that the not-so-nimble cha cha gal - had lost her spark.

There was a pause, then Kate responded in total puzzlement.

"What do you mean?"

The DJ struggled for words.

"Well, you don't seem to be yourself today," he shrugged in so many words.

Of course, the rumors were running rampant, that Gosselin would be parting ways with her handsome upbeat partner (Tony) and bidding adieu to cast & crew alike at "Dancing with the Stars".

Gosselin - for once - was speechless.

Then, fate reared its ugly head last night, and Kate was suddenly faced with the bitter truth.

The perky show-biz novelty was shown the door.

Across the airwaves today, show biz reporters labelled the old heave-ho, one of the most shocking elimination segments of the season.

Did Kate feel betrayed?

Well, she should have seen the "dancing" on the wall.

Each week, the mother of eight managed to scrape by - in part due to a generous at-home audience - that saw her as a bit of mindless entertaining fodder to chew on.

But, even the appetite of die-hard-fans, was finally satiated.

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood stood on the chopping block alongside Kate & Tony nervously as they awaited Bergeron's much-anticipated announcement.

The startling news was a shocker for Kate - so much so - that she had to take a moment to collect her thoughts.

"I need a minute," an emotional Kate told Tom and co-host Brooke Burke, before conceding the race.

Tony was quick on the uptake, handed Kate a much-needed tissue, and offered up a few choice words to soften the blow.

"You know what?  I'm very proud of Kate. She gets a lot of criticism out there and it is difficult."

"I give her all the credit in the world for showing up. As exhausted as she was, she still showed up every single day," he quickly added without hesitation.

"As a teacher, I am very proud of you because I thought you danced beautifully. You showed America it doesn't matter how much things go against you, you still come out here and give it your best."

"My gut feelings are always right and it's OK," Kate finally blurted out.

"I had the opportunity. I'm very, very honored to have been here. I love everyone that I met. It was a great experience."

And, the high drama continues next week, with the remaining stalwart hold-outs.

I'm biting my nails, already!

See 'ya there!

The Show must go on!

Kate Gosselin...media monster about to bust out! Billy Bush watch your back...

Has Kate Gosselin gobbled up her fifteen minutes of fame?

Or, is the madcap mom just over-exposed?

Tonight, the 'Dancing with Stars" contestant was all sweetness and light and all over the airwaves.

Imagine that, Kate segued into co-hosting with Mary Hart on Entertainment Tonight.

Next to the seasoned pro, Kate came off a bit timid, and in need of some vocal projection.

Although Hart didn’t appear to be have her feathers ruffled by this novel upstart, it appeared to be a different scenario over on the set of Access Hollywood with Billy Bush.

Was it my imagination, or was Kate taking a dim view of the Bush bravado and his in-your-face cocky man-style?

When he asked her what she was laughing at in one curious moment, she held back.

But, like me, viewers at home must have perceived that Kate didn’t find much favor with the Bush persona.

Bad “office” politics, Kate!

Oh well, blame it on emotional exhaustion.

The clunky two-stepper has been pushed and probed about dating, has worried over custody battles, you name it.

All of her responses appear to be calculated promotional “burps” designed to manipulate interviewers and rustle up a squeaky-clean image sure to warm the hearts and minds (and sympathy) of  viewers around the country.

I pity John!

Oh, she’s a monster alright, but most are in the dark about that right now.

Wake up and smell the coffee, America!

Dancing with the Stars...Tiler Peck wows! Kate counts blessings! Soap hunk gets axe!

Back to suds, Aiden!

There was a lot of drama this evening on the ABC Network's hit show "Dancing with the Stars".

While viewers at home chewed their nails on the edge of their seats - as they wondered if Kate would make the cut and return triumphantly next week - the determined reality-show Mom was distracted (teary-eyed one moment) about a custody battle she was now facing in her personal life.

Whew!

The gal - who cleans up good - breezed through cliff-hanging moments at the close of the show.

Wisely, the producers interspersed the proceedings tonight, with a couple of live performances which were top-notch.

Seasoned pro - Shaday, for instance - wowed audiences with two sets that were soothing to the senses.

While her stage persona (wardrobe choices & oversized "bun") left a lot  be desired, fans were undoubtedly inclined to overlook her ho-hum stage presence, and tap their feet to the catchy beat of the engaging tunes.

In fact, back-up dancers (who performed out front on the roomy stage) rustled up a routine or two that were thoroughly entertaining.

Their appealing threads - jeans, colorful t-shirts, and caps - are sure to spark a street trend.

Probably the highlight of the night was a dramatic performance by Tiler Peck - a dancer - with the New York City Ballet.

The dramatic piece - choreographed by Travis Wall - was part of the respected Macy's "Stars of Dance" series.

The staging for - "Nuttin But Stringz" - was nothing short of dynamic.

The thrilling highly-stylized dance routine was impeccably in step.

In fact, the tricky moves signalled an innovative trend in dance.

A troupe of young dancers starting out in their illustrious careers - also offered up their own particular brand of ballroom dancing in another segment - that was fresh, professional, and traditional in many respects.

In a nostalgic moment, the in-house dance instructors took a stroll down memory lane.

For the most part, the hoofers glided onto stages around the world when they were just toddlers.

A myriad of aged snapshots - capturing the aspiring two-steppers in early performances, tugged at the hearstrings.

Anna started at age 6, and followed after her mother, who was a role model.

Chelsie cried before each lesson when she was a kid. Hated it!

Tony was frustrated by the fact he was always playing a mushroom or tree.

At one point, Tom Bergeron spied a couple of the outfits one dancer was forced to wear in those early stages of his budding career, and was inclined to crack a joke.

"Gosh, I'm surprised Maks didn't have to go through therapy after being forced to wear those costumes."

The dancers recalled that it was a nasty experience coming up through the ranks.

"There was a lot of pushing and shoving among the contestants - nail scratching - too," one instructor laughingly remembered.

"It's not like here where you have one couple on stage. Twenty couples were packed in and bitterly elbowing for position."

In a preivew of what is to come next week, audiences were treated to movie clips featuring the "Dancing with the Stars" talent pool.

One segment next Monday will be a scary horror genre piece.

Preview shots revealed the footage primarily focuses on macabre fright-night bill-of-fare straight out of the howling B-movie classic selections oft screened at revival houses at the stroke of midnight at the witching hour.

In another spoof, a studly dancer assumes the fictional character of "Glambo"

Can't wait!  Should be a hoot!

Neicy and Evan will be "starring" in a black & white tribute to classic films in the romance genre.

Cleverly, it's been titled: ChaChablanca.

Brooke - who I singled out as shabbily-dressed Monday night - made a star turn tonight.

This evening the hostess was dazzling in a blood-red body-fitting gown, swept up "do", and a smattering of diamonds at the neckline which caught the light and threw zillions of eye-catching rainbows here and there.

For some inexplicable reason, Tom Bergeron's jacket sleeves were all wrinkled, though.

If the stylish suit was fashioned in linen, that may be the reason why, since that fabric is so susceptible to crinkling and soiling.

Len stood out as a fashion plate, too, in a smart-looking suit, pastel-colored tasteful tie, and pocket pouffe.

As the elimination round started to inch forward, Jake noted he was saddened by the whole process.

"I've been so close to everyone that my heart goes out to anyone who may be cut."

Kate was upbeat and ecstatic.

"For the first time I was totally relaxed and had a lot of fun."

Chad, one of the most confident dudes on "Dancing" - down-to-earth and able to poke fun of himself - described himself as a work-in-progress.

Now, that's a true artist, speaking up!

Finally, the moment arrived, and everyone collectively held their breath.

Drum roll, please!

Kate escaped the axe, but Aiden got the old heave-ho.

At this juncture, fans in the audience jumped to their feet, and expressed their wild appreciation.

Tom Bergeron was so swept up in the emotion of the moment, he was inclined to poignantly note for the record, that Aiden was the first contestant to exit in the fourth round to every garner such a generous heartfelt send off.

Then, he noted that Aiden would be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel later tonight.

Ooops!

Watch out, Aiden!

In a promo earlier in the day, the perky talk show host made a quip about gonging loser contestants or feeding them to hungry crocodiles back stage.

Go in the front door, please!

And, exit quickly.

Fans (myself included) still intend to tune in on romantic afternoons to catch you on the soaps.

Dancing with the Stars...Romance blossoming! Judge favoritism! Studly flesh!

Some nights on the ABC hit show - Dancing with the Stars - the intriguing twists-and-turns don't make any sense!

But - there is enough high drama, nubile & studly flesh, sexual innuendo, and dazzle in front of the floodlights -  to trigger an onslaught of viewers each week.

Last week, Dancing with the Stars soared to the top of the ratings heap, for example.

It should be noted, though, that American Idol breathed down Bruno's neck, and rustled up a higher share of the much-sought-after 15 to 34 demographic.

Yup!

Occasionally, Dancing with the Stars - thanks to the old fart (Len) - gets a bit creaky now and then.

But, it's still entertaining (on the edge of your seat) bill-of-fare on some teary-eyed nights.

Since last's weeks segment, I make sure I have a box of kleenex nearby and tasty bon bons in hand, so I may chew up the dazzle that parades across the high-energy stage without interrption.

In view of what went down tonight, it appears that there may be a bit of sly maneuvering on the part of the head honchos behind-the-scenes, to propel the ratings-getters forward in the show.

For example, I got the impression that a judge or two were wearing poker faces.

Was there an Ace or two up their sleeves?

Just maybe, they were holding back a little in a bold-faced effort to finesse somewhere down the yellow brick road?

Some of the slight-of-hand was glaring!

In spite of the fact audiences roared their approval throughout the night (deservedly so) - on occasion - the Judges' criticisms caused the fans to grumble loudly in the bleachers.

In fact, raucous boos at emotional high points in the competition hinted that a lynch mob was getting ready to demonstrate their anger, and go for a pound of flesh.

No wonder!

At times, the Judges appeared to contradict themselves.

For instance, on more than one occasion - in spite of the fact a dance assessment was flattering - the kudos did not translate well in the scoring department.

Were they letting the dancers down gently?

Sly devils, all!

The tension heightened this week also when ABC execs raised the stakes a tad.

The judges have been instructed to issue up two tallies - one for technique - and the other for performance.

Erin Andrews and her partner were first up.

Ever tactful, Erin asserted to the camera (and viewing audience at home) that the advice offered up the previous week was insightful.

True to form, the newscaster stressed that she intended to focus on her footwork, pursuant to one of the Judge's instructions.

Her partner told her to forget Len, though, and just focus on her dancing.

It will trip you up, he cautioned, in so many words.

This week was a bit tricky for Erin to begin with due to an injury (a contusion) she suffered on last week's show.

But, the doctor on board gave her the green light to compete nonetheless.

The handsome duo danced the tango.

Erin was sexy and seductive in red.

But, her partner looked ridiculous in a black and white top open to the belly-button.

What a strange get-up that was.

Bondage meets nellie?

The attractive duo's  interpretation - to the popular strains of "Sweet Dreams" - was romantic.

A female Judge opined that Erin was concentrating so hard that it interrupted the flow.

Picky! Picky! Picky!

Even still, there was wild applause and a standing ovation.

Evan and his partner felt confident about their performance but worried about technique.

"Look up," she instructed, after noting that Evan had a tendency to gaze downward (to his detriment).

Once again, the professional figure skater was a knock-out in his fashion choices for the dance number.

The glittery collar, on a basic black silhouette featuring a high waist band, were chic flourishes.

Fans reacted enthusiastically to a number which smartly unfolded from a position on one lone chair in the middle of the stage, to later encompass the whole stage.

Bruno, such a clever one with words, waxed that Evan was so fascinating to watch in view of his cat-like arrogance.

Purr-fect!

Another Judge was more generous in their assessment.

"The blend of artistry and technique was just right."

Anna's slinky dress left a lot to be desired, though.

Two slits at the bodice caused her boobs to flesh out in an odd way and was a tacky look overall.

Speaking of gowns, Brooke's was a disaster.

The fleshy tones did not suit her.

And, strap-like oddities - going this way 'n that - were downright befuddling.

Were they scrimping on wardrobe expenses this week?

Neicy was instructed by her teacher to focus on her spiritual side, in what amounted to a tribute her brother, who passed to spirit a few years ago.

A major criticism was that  - "in her mind the dance was something special" - that  didn’t translate well to the judges or the audience.

"I wanted to make a statement that there is life on the other side of loss and suffering," she poignantly noted with a tinge of sadness in her voice.

"I didn't want to do the cliché rumba love story," her partner pointed out to the Judges, in case they missed what he was aiming for.

A Soap opera stud made a big splash on the deck of a ship when he tore his t-shirt off at the request of frenzied fans who proceeded to snap publicity stills in a flurry of flashbulbs.

Unfortunately, there weren't any washboard abs in sight.

Aiden, you need to do some crunches, sit-ups, leg-ups - whatever!

His pecs could stand a little pumping up, too.

Nicole and Derek, as always, did not disappoint.

The handsome blond's schtick about his love hand was hilarious.

He's such a cutie, that its doubtful anyone would kick him out of bed, not for eating crackers anyway.

The couple's moves were exciting, elegant, and serene.

Derek must be gay to create tricky dance steps like that (and pull 'em off).

Nicole, the pussy-cat doll, was not unlike a creature that stepped out of a dream, according to the Judges.

I agree!

Jake promised - to not only give it his all this week on "Stars" - but one-hundred-and-fifty percent in fact.

For starters, he may spark a trend with his t-shirt, which sported a Judge's prior caustic remarks on its face.

"Turn up. Keep up. Shut up"

When he didn' give it his all , and instead struggled through the routine at rehearsal, his partner told him to hit the deck and give her ten push-ups.

What a task-master!

By the way, is it just me, or does Chelsie Hightower talk like she has marbles in her mouth?
Tony squeezed into a black leather suit somewhat reminiscent of  a look from the 80's music phenomenon the "Village People".

Yawn!

Kate Gossellin's "do" - with feathery extensions which added a soft frame to her face - was quite flattering.

Bruno referred to her performance as a mini-breakthrough.

I think he was being kind; after all, I found it ho-hum.

Another Judge put it more succinctly perhaps.

"There wasn't any artistry, but there was a lot of determination."

Ouch!

Chad and Cheryl sparked a lot of gossip.

"What's with that sparkler on your finger," Brooke probed.

Cheryl insisted it was just a gift, but Chad hinted that he was in hot pursuit, and after more than friendship.

At one point, Tom speculated that Chad flirted with the lone female judge on the panel, as he majestically waltzed by the podium.

In response, Len quipped:

"Oh, I thought he was gazing at me."

The audience roared!

Pam Anderson - Hollywood sex Goddess - confessed that there was no man in her life right now.

If not, then who was that  dude all over her at an after-hours club (Guys & Dolls) one dark and whiskey-soaked night last week trying to get in-like Flynn?

A one-night stand or paid bum boy, I surmise.

The gown she tossed on for her number was little more than a sheet (a momento of the other tawdry night?) tied here and there to prevent her private parts from flapping in the breeze.

Len was ecstatic about her performance.

"It was understated, but sophisticated. Well done."

Not to be outdone, Bruno chimed in:

"Pamela can do refinement and elegance and still be drop-dead gorgeous."

On that upbeat note, see 'ya tonight!

Pamela Anderson...drunken starlett stumbles out of Guys & Dolls! Sloppy seconds anyone?

Pamela's horizontal take on life!

Blond sexpot Pamela Anderson shocked onlookers when she stumbled out of Guys & Dolls nightclub in the wee hours this morning - dishevelled and out-of-control of her faculties - with nasty stains spotting the front of her ultra-tight chic party dress last night.

At one point, Pamela hid underneath her wild unruly mane of hair, as she was escorted to a waiting vehicle.

The tipsy top-heavy dance contestant should have called it a night.

Was the former Babewatch star just kicking up her heels (letting down her hair literally?) to release a little tension that had been mounting over the past week @  "Dancing with the Stars"?

Pamela narrowly missed being canned from the hit ABC show last round of the competition when she could barely pass muster with the viewing audience at home.

One gossip monger on a popular tabloid show was heard to mutter last night.

"It's the women. They don't like sluts like that," he spat out in disgust in so many words.

Another host on the tops ratings-getter was indignant about the unkind barb and stuck up for the former babe watch star.

"That's not true."

After her splashy night out on-the-town, Pam may have turned the corner in the regard now.

Maybe folks in middle America just wanted to give a true underdog (like Kate Gosselin) a chance instead of a big pampered Hollywood movie star?

Viewers at home were undoubtedly shocked when they caught sight of one video which captured a shot of  a man on top of the oiled-up starlett inside the night club trying to make out with her on the couch.

The panting horndog may have left some saliva behind on her chest in the wake of his animal passion!

Talk about sloppy seconds!

Want a go?

The line queues over there, dudes!

If a great dane jumped the dizzy dame last night, it's doubtful she would have been the wiser.

Not content to conjure up a big splash at the trendy watering hole, Pamela proceeded to make the rounds at Chateau Marmont Hotel (a notorious lair for night creatures and superstar party-heartiers) and Dominick's eatery.

Yeah, get some food into your stomach, Pam.

And, drinks lots of water; otherwise, you're going to be suffering with green gills and a splitting headache throughout the rest of the day.

Yeah, we've all been there!

Dancing with the Stars...Buzz moonwalks home! Kate Gosselin spared axe! Security tight!

"It's the best show on TV," raved a fan who braved the throngs and tight security (that required a body scan with a high-tec wand) to be up-close and personal for Tuesday night's episode of Dancing with the Stars.

Maybe, the dance lover was anxious to witness the drama in person?

After a tense week for the contestants - featuring  sad teary-eyed break-downs - anything was bound to unfold on stage this evening.

Would Kate Gosselin be given the axe?

Was a former astronaut's day in the sun coming to a poignant close?

In a way, dancers exiting stage right or left, would be a blessing for me (and most journalists reporting on the show).

Let's face it - a two-hour entertainment variety show with ten couples parading by non-stop - is a tough assignment even for a writer capable of lighting speed shorthand techniques.

The ess dancers there are to keep track up, the better for moi!

I confess - occasionally - it has been tough keeping up.

For starters, the blond bimbo babes all look the same to me!

Wigs, make-up, and dazzling body-transforming outfits by wardrobe masters, have added to the challenge this end.

So, take this as a kind of disclaimer.

If you want the exact scores without any mix-ups - or are keen on being abreast of the status of each couple up-to-the-minute, cruise on over to ABC's web site.

Gosh, my occasional slip-ups may be a plus for the network, because they're bound to get an overflow of traffic bouncing off the tattler site to theirs at ABC.

What is important to me is the color - the highlightss and the devastating lows - and the spirit of the competiton.

That's the meat of  "Dancing with the Stars", after all.

To be honest with y'all, two hours sensory overload, is a bit discaboobating!

An hour-and-half would be stretching it, really!

I'd be interested to take a gander at the ratings - and determine when and where the viewing  audience tuned in (or out) - during the course of the upbeat exciting dance competition.

By the way, the male dancers are easier to keep track of  generally - especially when they open their yaps - and end up stirring up controversy or titillating bill-of-fare.

For example,  when a ompeting athlete got excited about the thought of getting down 'n dirty next week on stage with his dance partner, host Tom Bergeron quipped that next week's episode would be pay-per-view.

By the way, thought that Evan's black jacket with a dazzling spray of stardust casting rainbows in the light,  was just FABULOUS darlings!

The black studs on the white dress shirt, and corectly-knotted bow tie, were tasteful stylish flourishes.

A host was inclined to dredge up the details of a "mickey" still haunting one couple.

Why did the winsome twosome break the rules in their quick-step performance?

The male cutie - Derek - confessed that he got swept away in the moment.

I hope he keeps a rubber in his wallet given his lack of self-control!

Wink! Wink!

Backstage, in an intimate moment, dancers noted that Tuesday night (eliminations) was the most stressful for everyone.

The troupe has become quite close-knit, has developed relationships, and feel like family at this juncture.

Niecy joked that she was the big mamma.

"I try to get these thin children to eat," she quipped (a bit envious of their toned bods?).

Two male dancers were spied outside of their trailers.

The spoils of their success?

I wonder if the comfy motorhomes rock from side-to=side (up & down, too) on quiet afternoons during break?

If we're to believe the gossip mongers on the night-time tabloid shows, yes!

Once dancer noted that Erin Andrews was down-to-earth and fun to be around.

In view of the death threats haunting her, not an easy row to hoe,  I expect.

After alot of entetaining segments - sandwhiched in-between slick high-profile advertisements at commercial break - it was time to get down to the nitty-gritty.

Was it my imagination, or did Pamela Anderson nearly faint, when the word came down that she was saved for another round of fancy glamorous footwork?

Kate Gosselin, who many predicted would be shown the backstage door, managed to finesse her way through for a triumphant encore next episode.

In a real cliff-hanging moment, Buzz Aldrin finally got the word.

It would be his last moonwalk home in the arms of his charming wife.

But, what a send off.

The audience jumped to their feet - and clapped and stomped their feet - in recognition of the man's ballsy chutzpah!

"Why did you take on this challenge, Buzz?" the pretty hostess probed.

"I did it for the fighter pilots, the military, and an old geezer - me!

Buzz Alrin, in the final anaylsis, is a gentleman and a scholar.

Not many of us left!

See 'ya next week.

Dancing with the Stars...death threats! Broken Rules! Bondage Themes!

There was a lot of high drama during rehearsals, on stage, and behind-the-scenes tonight on Dancing with the Stars.

Just before the curtain went up on the big Fox ratings-getter, the newswires were reporting that two of the female celebrity contestants on the show - Erin & Pamela - received death threats warning them not to dance "or else".

Though shaken, and emotionally wrought, both troopers followed true Hollywood tradition.

"The show must go!"

Two dancers - in sailor suits - got a total dressing-down from one judge for "breaking the rules".

Len was livid!

"It wasn't a traditional quick-step," he angrly scolded the handsome couple.

"It looked like a vaudeville act, with Gene Kelly returning to Hollywood fifty-years later," he noted with indignation.

Bruno agreed with Len that the winsome twosome didn't meet the criteria, but in spite of that little shortcoming, touted the performance for what it was.

I think Len was right to speak out, after all, it wasn't fair to the other contestants who were restricted by "Dancing with the Stars" rules - and thus - forced to meet the creative challenges imposed on them.

If every couple didn't follow the guidelines, and went their own way, what kind of a competition would that be?

In spite of the glaring misstep, one judge proudly waved an "8" on her score card, as if to spite Len.

Did Nicole and Derek get special treatment?

Just maybe, when you consider that while the other dancers sweated out their rehearsals in stuffy halls indoors at the studio, the darling couple tripped-the-light fantastic on a yacht in the harbour

Inquiring minds want to know!

Tonight's theme was "telling a story".

Ironic, that in Hollywood's dream factory at Fox studios, imaginative storytellers were far-and-few between.

Nicole and Derek chose to go the route of  two sailors slacking off.

There were surprises (at one point, when she held him in her arms, she dropped him without warning and he crashed to the floor dazed), lots of high-spirted fun (she bumped him in the mug with her butt at one point in the slick broadway-style number) and happy-go-luck moments that wowed the audience.

In fact, ecstatic fans jumped to their feet and roared their approval for several deafening moments.

His fair looks, and her almond-shaped face in olive tones (set off by a rich mane of lustrous black hair), were a winning combination.

They were striking on stage, in fact,  as they kicked up their heels and contorted their faces like keystone cops to the foot-tapping tune of "Anything Goes".

One judge quipped:

"When your show goes on the road, I want front row seats."

An Olympic skater - who broke two toes last week - valiantly danced on!

Buzz Aldrin stumbled through his stiff routine and faced critical judges once again.

The audience hissed and booed Len.

The former astronaut can do no wrong with the studio audience (or with viewers at home).

In rehearsal, Jake accused his female coach of treating him disrespectfully.

"Don't shut down, Jake," his partner begged.

They chose an Egyptian theme which was ho-hum.

Chelsea came off like a cheap tart in her torquoise peek-a-boo gown which was festooned with tacky flourishes.

Jake's chocolate brown suit was BORING!

Chelsea, was no Cleopatra, though she struggled to infuse some exotic sensuality into the mix.

Niecy was asked to imagine herself in the sixties in an era when inter-racial relationships were strictly taboo.

"Dancing with the Stars" got a little political at this juncture when her male partner (gay) hinted that scenario was one he was forced to face with his male lover daily.

Niecy broke down at one climatic moment and expressed  how sorrowful it would be not to be able to show love for the person you cared for.

"I can't imagine what it would be like not to be with my boyfriend because of society."

Is she getting some help with a stylist?

Although she wore a flower in her hair once again - her signature - her choices in respect to gown and accessories were vastly improved.

A cream-colored par-tay dress with sequins at the bodice suited her.

But, the long sleeves were a fashion missstep, since they took away from a V-line which would have given the impression she was a lot slimmer than she actually is.

Judges thought her to be a highly emotional dancer.

True!

Her partner, Louis, needed to focus on technique (the judges concurred)

The "wide receiver" for a sports team improved his performance this week most agreed.

"After last week, I needed to re-energize and focus."

His story, about a matador trying to seduce a woman, mirrored life.

The athlete's attempted advances on his dance partner have been roundly rejected!

Dear, didn't 'ya know - once you've had Black - you never go back?

Just ask the hookers who have been dating Tiger Woods!

His pretty partner, in bright red, was nothing short of a spitfire!

"It felt good to get cocky and arrogant," he growled.

Down, boy!

Pamela Anderson faces a curious dilemma.

Though loved by the Judges, viewers held back last week and left her shocked and stewing in the bottom two of the rank and file.

To bolster her morale, Coochie-Choochie gal Charo popped in to coach Pam on flamingo dancing.

"Because of your big maracas, you have to pay attention to your posture and form," she wickedly laughed.

Pam and her partner wowed the audience and judges alike with their dramatic routine danced to the strains of one of my favorite "Animals" hits "Don't Let me Be Misunderstood".

One judge gushed that Pam got the story.

"You have a certain artistry that is great."

Bruno quipped:

"You were like a Bridgette Bardot playing a gypsy Queen. Fantastic!"

Aiden, was given the task of imaging a woman of his dreams, who magically materializes.

"She's killing me," he panted heavily in rehearsal.

The audience oohed and aahed when his wife appeared (by virtue of video clip) unexpectedly on his birthday with 7 month-old baby in tow.

His quick-step, one judge pointed, needed to be carefree (not careful).

Bruno, on the other hand, thought he gave the impression of being happy as a clam.

In a kinky segment, Erin was blindfolded and led around the stage at her partner's sinister whim.

In the rehearsal hall, he stressed that it was his way of gaining her trust.

Her gown was fashioned in glittering silver tones with sparkly flourishes at the bodice

"If you start with a blindfold, you may end up in handcuffs," Bruno cackled.

"There was a sense of danger. It was also breathtakingly artistic," another judge gushed.

The shocking disappointment of the night was the performance (!) by Kate Gosselin.

At rehearsal, she broke down in tears, and noted how difficult it was to let go of the mask she wore to the world.

"It's what I use to help me and my kids survive."

So, the producers brought in an acting coach, to help her "emote".

Kate went over-the-top with an idea she was unfortunately unable to execute successfully.

Her take on Lady GaGa and the frenzied Paparazzi not only fell flat - but rustled up a batch  of bad reviews.

"It was - um - strange," one stammered.

Her bold-faced efforts to channel her frustrations into the routine didn't pan out.

To me, she came off like a child's doll that sprang to life, in need of oiling at the joints.

A cheesy scene from a low-budget B-horror flick?

You betcha!

Bruno labelled it pedestrian, with no passion or drama.

"A bitch from hell," he summarized.

Tom Bergeron quipped:

"And, that was a compliment."

They sure have skewered ideas on "Dancing with the Stars".

It's kind of like a train wreck, though.

No matter how hard you try, you can't tear yourself away from the scene of the tragedy.

Why is that?

Dancing with the Stars...Pam nearly a goner! Beach Boy tribute with Stamos a highlight!

Shortly after the lights went up on the stage of "Dancing with Stars" tonight - the jolts and surprises -  packed a couple of hard-hitting whallops.

Pam Anderson (myself included) was stunned by the news that after the vote count was tallied from the viewing audience that she was relegated to the bottom two!

 And, wonders never ceased!

Buzz Aldrin must have crapped in his pants - when he was given the nod to return next week - in spite of a poor showing with the Judges last night.

Fans demonstrated the obvious!

Wowing audiences at home with dazzling costumes and fancy footwork doesn't always hold sway with fans entirely!

Tugging their heart-strings appears to be the key to scoring big with music-lovers around the country.

But Buzz is no fool!

"The Judges were right," he chuckled (about his performance)

"I was patriotic and served my country. My friends in the space program probably had something to do with this."

When Pamela was quizzed about what happened (???) her response was short and sweet.

"Whoops!"

At this juncture, producers opted to build the suspense by prolonging the outcome.

Fox sparked up the show with skits, a band performance, and a peek at the daily routine of competent co-hosts Brooke Burke and seasoned pro Tom Bergeron.

Shots of Brooke rehearsing lines with Tom, in the make-up room, and announcing contestants on a mic backstage as they sauntered down the stairs into the glare of the spotlight, were a fascinating look at life back stage.

"When I chat with the contestants, that is not scripted. So, I try to engage in a real conversation."

The Beach Boys - considered to be one of America's all-time favorite (best) bands - brought back alot of nostalgia with their hot performance of  "Fun Fun Fun".

Former Soap  star - John Stamos - wowed the folks in attendance with a solid stint on the drums.

In fact, the gig triggered a prolonged standing ovation, that didn't look like it would ever end.

In a hilarious colorful sketch, Len - outfitted as Moses - cited the ten commandments at Fox's hit show
to be mindful of.

For example - Thou shalt not do lifts, Thou shalt not have rhinestones, and Thou shalt honor the judges - were stand-out no-no segments that hit my funnybone.

In a fun twist, the professional dancers (the hired instructors coaching the contestants) were rustled up to dance a special number - with the ultimate aim of letting them strut their stuff - so contestants could see what "dance" was all about.

The vastly entertaining segment was - sexy, upbeat, spirited, choreographed well - and somewhat  reminiscent of boy-band slick schtick.

The light show dazzled!

There were jokes about Bruno and Elton John tom-catting around in France.

"Elton & Bruno loose in Southern France in the carefree eighties? Why, they must have bagged every chick in town," the commentator chuckled.

When a staffer strode up and whispered in his ear, a shocked look spread across his face.

"Elton John, too?" he asked increduously.

On the heels of the recent announcement by Ricky Martin that he is "gay" - the wicked humor was timely - and well-received by the open-minded guests.

In a solemn segment a troup of dancers from Haiti (sponsored by Macys) gave tribute to the victims of the devastating earthquake.

Interested viewers were invited to visit the web site and contribute funds.

www.abettercommunity.com

Neicy (who was saved and will appear next week) giggled that all the tension made her both anxious and hungry at the same time!

At the close of the show, I breathed a sigh of relief; after all, Pamela Anderson (my fave dancer) was spared the axe!

When I checked twitter, I noticed right off-the-bat, that follower Shannon Tweed posted info on how to vote for Pamela in upcoming segments.

Guess Shannon was worried too!

Because Pam was saved  it meant another hoofer went home in her stead.

Unfortunately, Shannon Doherty was a victim of the unkind fickle finger of fate.

"I'm not a dancer," she confided to  the hosts.

The journey was a fulfilling one for her, though.

As it turns out, it worked out for the best.

Yesterday, her partner tore a muscle off the bone during their performance, and would have left Shannon in a lurch with a new partner to trip-the-light fantastic with in future episodes.

Not a pretty prospect, she fessed up.

In a touching closing moment, all the dancers swarmed over the likeable twosome, and smothered them with hugs!

'Til next week, eh?

Dancing with the Stars...Pam Anderson wows! Kate Gosselin raises stink...

As "Dancing with the Stars" burst on the screen for its second week into the new season, the emphasis appeared to be on glamour, fast fancy footwork, and a mad dash for the brass ring as contestants worked up a sweat in rehearsal and sought to showcase their talent on the big night with dazzling finesse.

Mad, was the key word, alright.

In fact, tensions ran so high on occasion that one judge quipped:

"Show up. Step up. And, shut up."

Kate Gosselin - the money-grubbing reality-show star (?) - stirred up controversy when a temper tantrum trigged her instructor to yell at her - I quit - just before storming off in a huff.

There were quite a few hits, amidst the misses (and bad manners), though.

Along the way, entertaining quips from the judges, kept the audience in side-splitting laughter.

For instance, when Pamela Anderson wafted onto the stage the spitting image of screen icon - Marilyn Monroe - one judge chortled that he just spied a limo packed with Kennedys careen up to the curb outside.

The impromptu spats - which underscored that a couple of  the dancers (male & female) were testy prima donnas - kept audiences on the edge-of-their seats shaking their heads in disgust (but begging for more juicy moments of classless low-brow entertainment).

For example, in one frustrating moment Kate Gosselin confronted her partner - pro dancer Tony Dovolani - because she couldn't cut (or keep up with) the fast pace.

In a shame-faced bid for sympathy, Gosselin played the damsel in distress.

"He feels like I undermined him as a teacher and I didn't. I'm not qualified to teach, but I am qualified to know how it is that I want something to be shown to me," Kate said to camera.

"Like, I just want to learn, like show me, so I can get it."

A handful in the audience were inclined to cluck.

Meanwhile, Tony was under the impression Kate was criticizing his instruction.

"I am a successful dance instructor. No one has ever treated me like this," he wined as he slunk off with his tail between his legs.

Eventually, the dismal twosome patched up their differences and moved on.

Whew!

Pamela Anderson added a lot of sizzle to the show last night when she went old Hollywood.

When she floated across the stage as Marilyn Monroe - in a sparkly body-fitting gown, white gloves, and short-cropped fifties-style "do" - the rapt audience was knocked out (as were the judges) by a performance that was sensual, precise, and classy.

One judge felt she needed to stand taller, find her center, and - uh-huh - refrain from the tendency to lead with her boobs.

Those judges say the darndest things, don't they?

Later on a talk show around the midnight hour, host Tom Bergeron joked:

"Pam excited me tonight. Then, she danced."

Her partner was dashing in a morning coat with tails, elegant cravat, tasteful pocket puff, and stylish shoes to match.

The performance rustled up a standing ovation for the beaming dancers!

There were precarious moments, though.

In a rehearsal, Pam fell back (with partner in tow) into a mirrored wall and went boom.

"I already said, there's no way I'm going down in a fox trot," she laughed as she struggled to regain her balance (and composure).

The former V.I.P star was praised for "getting into the moment" - and likewise - channeling Marilyn Monroe so expertly.

"I'm happy do something so much fun at this point in career," she chirped to one of the hosts as she waited for the scores to ripple off the cue cards.

"It had an elegance about it... a cheeky charm," Len gushed.

"It was a well executed delicious tribute to the original blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe," Bruno enthused.
Meanwhile, bad girl - Shannon Doherty - expressed quite a bit of frustration during rehearsal with her patient partner who was sensitive to her needs, fortunately.

Doherty expressed doubts about being able to remember the complicated routine.

"There is so much to learn."

Her instructor was steadfast in pushing her to the limits.

Although  TV's popular soap girl appeared a bit dumpy in the rehearsal hall (pleasingly plump?) the still-sexy brunette cleaned up good later.

In fact, the winsome twosome were dazzling in their glittery black & white outfits ( hers sparked up with  eye-catching heels and his with a stand-out string tie).

Their high-spirited number, though electric, was a bit flawed.

Len Goodman thought the performance was fast, fun, and energetic.

"A mean jive that engaged the audience," he raved.

"You need more control with the feet, though, Shannon," he added as an afterthought.

Trusting her partner - Mark - paid off well.

Evan (Gold Medalist)) was smartly turned out in tight jeans and vinyl leather jacket teamed with pink socks and ubiquitous sneakers.

"Suprise moves and interesting steps," applauded Len, who was prone to criticize Evan's legs on the grounds that they "went everywhere" in his estimation.

"The connection with the audience and your partner was there."

"Like greased lightning tonight, spot on. Don't go wobbly now."

Niecy added a dollop of humor - and a flourish of color - to the show.

The hefty likeable dancer wore a large flower in her hair to add a touch of romance to the sparkly outfit that accented her generous fleshy curves.

The effervescent gal expressed concerns that there were communication problems with her partner, who was describing the moves in such way, that they  diffficult to fathom (in her opinion).

When Louie mentioned he was reaching for a performance that was smooth as butter, she lit up, though.

"Now you're speaking my language. Cause I love food!"

In spite of her loud big demeanour, Judges hailed her fox trot as effortness.

Graceful?

Who would of thunk it?

I didn't warm up to her gown - a nightmare in pink - somewhat reminiscent of a Supremes cast off.

A judge compared it to a frothy pink milkshake (mistake?).

There were a couple of glaring incidents when flowing gowns triggered potential disasters on stage.

For example, fabric often swept up between the legs of  male partners, without warning.

Whoa nellie!

Because Niecy was such a big Mamma, I speculated earlier on there would not be any lifts in her dance future, though.

My prediction was right on the money as  both bods continued to hug the stage floor throughout the routine.

Two other dancers who fought openly - Jake & Chelsie - caused me to wonder to myself.

Are they in love, but don't know it yet?

He retorted at one point that he felt silly about the routine.

"I react like a porcupine. It's my defense mechanism," he apologized later with an obvious stick still up his pretty little butt.

Chelsie was adamant that she was not asking - but telling him in no uncertain terms - that there were hitches that still needed to be worked out.

When he lamented he couldn't get into a specific position - she remarked off-handed almost under her breath -  that he was bull-legged.

Ouch.

He wouldn't cave in, though.

"I tend to take up the challenge, tackle, then try to  nail it," he noted earnestly to the camera.

A studlly macho guy rife with attitude.

I like!

Jake cut a fine swath on the dance floor, too, decked out in black boots, white socks (or was he wearing spats?), dress slacks, and stylish checked jacket.

At one point, when he unexpected offered up three deep  thrusts from the groin area, it became obvious he was definitely stripper material.

Her black cocktail with torquoise fringe flattered her figure.

Judges noted they were a joy to watch, although Jake needed to be lighter on his feet.

"You have to trust your partner," one judge stressed amid nods from others on panel.

Chelsie described her realtionshilp with Jake to that of  "brother & sister".

Was it my imagination, or did that assessment of their relationship upset him?

BUZZ Aldrin continued on valiantly.

One judge thought the former astronaut was dancing with trepidation.

"You look like you're afraid to step on her toes."

In spite of comments like - tender, charming, tugs at heartstrings - scores were quite low.

I expect the moon-walker will not be tripping-the-light fantastic much longer on Dancing with Stars.

One cutting criticism?

"On the moon, you go this way 'n that to avoid craters. Here, it may be a good idea to go in a straight line on occasion," Len sniped.

Pussy Cat doll Nicole-  and partner Derek - were enthusiastic and full of energy.

Instead of a 50's classic tune they were pining for, the Judges nudged music for a contemporary song under their noses come rehearsal day.

Initially, both were annoyed with the turn of events, they didn't anticipate.

In spite of the disappointment, the attractive couple managed to choreograph an upbeat, fast-paced routine, loved by the normally-picky judges

One judge was totally wowed.

"You reinvented the jive!"

Maks and Erin bowled the judges over, too.

In rehearsal, Erin laughed about the fact she was such a Tom Boy - and lamented to anyone within earshot - that she  doubted her dance instructor would be able to draw the inner princess out.

"Maks works hard. He screams and drives me crazy."

The concentrated effort paid off.

Judges raved, after all, that she was a natural.

"Like a duck taking to water."

"Stunning", "lyrical", "flexible" were some of the superlatives used.

Sadly, Chad and Cherly were compared to a snow storm.

"You're glad when it's over," Len sniped heartlessly.

So were we!

Tonight, the first round of eliminations on ABC.
