Glee...pulls plug on Juilliard spin-off! Fans toss weight around!

At sizzling hot red carpet events in recent months - Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer - have been constantly hounded by the press to reveal all the delicious details about an alleged spin-off to "Glee" which would have focused on the show's three most-popular characters graduating and heading off to the famed Juilliard School of Music in New York City.

Now, it appears that the Glee creative team at Fox is having their doubts about turning the talented trio loose.

Ratings concerns?

Just betcha, the network brass are afraid of losing a solid fan base they've built up each week next season on the original "Glee".

If 'ya read between-the-lines, the answer appears to be yes on both counts (judging by the press releases spewing out from the production office).

In the words of co-creator Ryan Murphy:

"Since all the drama went down regarding the characters' upcoming graduation (with all the frenzied media outlets) we decided to put the plans on hold," Murphy chirped.

Maybe Fox didn't really know - 'til now - how truly essential these talented kids are in the grand schme of things?

So, what's cooking, dudes?

MGM...tipsy teenage boys spied crooning "Lion Sleeps Tonight"!

The other evening I was cruising through the Casino floor at the MGM Grand - when I spied a gang of tipsy teenage boys gathered around the animal compound - crooning Capella.

"In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle, the Lion Sleeps tonight!"

How GLEE of 'em!

But, they had nothing on the posse of drunken lads traipsing down the strip at about 3 a.m. belting out at the top of their lungs (in tribute to Elvis?).

Viva Viagra!

Uh-huh!

It's going to be a sizzling hot summer in the exotic desert oasis in many respects.

Las Vegas...curfew for teens without parents in tow! Nevada a Police State?

The tell-tale sight of idle teens gone blotto on the Vegas strip after-hours may become an unruly phenomenon of the past now that Officials have given Law Enforcement the nod to enforce a curfew to take effect immediately in "Sin" City.

During the weekdays, teens - 18 and under - will only be permitted to cruise the boulevard after 10 p.m. if there is a consenting adult (family member and/or friend) or parent in tow!

On Friday and Saturday nights the curfew has been set at 9 p.m.

Which begs two questions.

Will you know where your kids are after-hours during the week in the glitzy environs of the desert oasis when they get-down and party-hearty?

For starters, if they are on the Las Vegas strip alone after curfew, they may end up at the local lock-up downtown.

And, the shocked rebels may find themselves charged with a misdemeanor

Meanwhile, Civil Rights Activists are shaking their heads in disbelief and wondering aloud.

Is Nevada on the way to becoming a Police State?

Teen push-up "Bra"...sexualization of youth! Triggers memories of going steady!

Lift & thrust important for women!
(just ask Howard Hughes)

An uproar over the unveiling of a line of sexy revealing swimwear for pre-teens (8 to 10 years old) which boasts a push-up "Bra" - curiously - triggered memories of the boyhood dating game!

In grade 6, going steady - I vividly recall - was a status symbol which singled out the men from the boys.

As luck would have it, I ended up dating Kathy McClaren (who resided in the apartment complex next door), who just happened to be the gal blessed with the biggest - er - chest (a treasure?) in school that I (and others!) recall.

Needless to say, I was the envy of all the hot-blooded straight guys in Victoria Park (Canada).

Because Kathy was a sweet unassuming young lady (and not stuck up because of her obvious up-front assets like the other babes in class) - her reputation for having the most enticing set of "knockers" at the tender age of thirteen - ended up being an albatross around her neck (which was difficult to bear on occasion).

In fact, on one close call, Kathy nearly called off our relationship because a jealous rival (a female) whispered in her ear that I was bragging to all the boys that I was only going "steady" with her because of her - um - hormone-rushing sexual charms.

Fortunately, my faithful sweetheart (uh-huh) was a pretty straightforward level-headed individual, so she gave me the benefit of the doubt and allowed me the opportunity to explain my side of things (instead of just "breaking up" in a huff and strutting off).

But, I confess, that I also had a crush on another classmate - Joanne - who started out as a good friend.

Because she was an "Elizabeth Taylor" look-a-like, though - fashionably aware, prone to apply make-up with class and ease (before most girls knew how to fasten a bra), and modelled professionally at legitimate gigs around town - Joanne was hotly pursued by every stud in the barnyard - er - school yard!

My closeness to Joanne was inclined to cause me to butt heads with a couple of dudes on the football team.

But, one day - out-of-the-blue - Joanne suddenly appeared in class in a simple sun dress, without any make-up (or even a hint of lipstick) - and looked for-all-the-world like a plain Jane.

A million light years from her normally-magnetic sensual persona!

If clothes make the man, then make-up (and a little push & thrust here & there) obviously makes the woman, eh?

"What happened to you," I quizzed her in utter astonishment.

Sadly, she informed me that her Mother put her foot down, and insisted that she refrain from getting all-dolled up for school.

"My parents feel I am growing up too fast."

In the wake of the controversy over the push-up bra for teens - and in light of my own experience (which established in my mind how succinctly the "sexualization" of a child causes undue pressure on their mental health and well-being) I heartily applaud (and support) the "push" for natural growth.

What's wrong with innocence, after all?

In our debauched hedonistic society, it is a quality that is rare, that should be exalted (not exploited or tossed by the wayside).

Amen!

Justin Bieber...a.bottle thrown is attack on the right! O'Reilly guest off rocker!

An attack on the right?

OMG!

A stranger in the madding crowd tossed a water bottle (a missive according to Juliet Huddy at Fox) while Pop Idol Justin Bieber was prancing about the stage performing one of his hit tunes in Sacramento - and for the most part - delighting die-hard fans.

Although the incident occurred months ago, a just-released video of the shocking assault on the teen, just began circulating the media.

The air-born projectile soared over the heads of excited fans and ended up glancing the side of Bieber's head.

"OW" - the embarrassed Bieb (his nick-name to the ubiquitous paparazzi)) squealed in surprise as he basically kept his cool.

As fans shook their heads in disbelief, the Pop Idol uttered up a polite response.

"That wasn/t very nice," he lamented to the coward hiding in his midst.

Initially, it was difficult to fathom why a paid ticket-holder would attend a concert - then proceed to launch an attack - in one nervy moment out-front when the opportunity presented itself.

Julet Huddy, a Fox respondent, figureed it out right from the get-go.

"It was an attack on the right," she asserted without cracking a smile.

"He's just a kid - from Canada - originally," she continued earnestly.

"But, it was because he representated the right, nonetheless."

Oh, hogwash.

My instinct tells me it was something more teen-oriented than that.

In my estimation, some pimply-faced outcast in the crowd, was holding a grudge against sexy mop-head Bieber.

Just maybe, a pretty babe was pining for Bieber - instead of the loser - so he struck out at the object of her affection.

Then again, maybe some cocky dude - with a fu**ked-up attitude - was envious of Bieber's success  (so he lobbed the bottle at the Pop Star to embarrass and humiliate him in front of his adoring fans.

I know!

A closet fag - full of self-loathing - was tormented by the fact he might succumb to his inner-most latent homo tenencies (and fall for the heartthrob).

So, he engaged in some red-neck bravado to establish to his drinking-buddiesin tow, that he was a gung-ho dude who wasm't queer!

The aforementioned conjectures are certainly more plausible theories than the insane one put forth by demented Juliet Huddy!

An attack on the right?

Juliet Huddy is obviously a frigid bit** - who happens to be looney tunes, as well.

Bill O'Reilly obviously invited her to offer up her rant because the show needs a good hoot now and then.

For sure, the ratings must have gone thoogh the roof, when it was broadcast that the video would be broadcast on Factor.

Will there never be an end to the media whores populating the terain in a deceitful effort to meet their outrageous agendas?

Inquiring minds are chompling at the bit to know.

Justin Bieber...Police escort hauls bad boy home! Ah, youth!

Pop Idol pretty in Red, White & Blue!

Teen star Justin Bieber thrives on bike-riding at the witching hour, according to comments the young hottie made during a recent interview with "Top of the Pops" magazine.

The kid has a lot in common with Keanu Reeves.

In one interview a few years ago, the Matrix star confided to a journalist that heoften cruises in the dead-of-night on his sleek high-powered motorcycle.

Unfortunately for Justin, one of his joyrides landed the cutie in hot water with his folks.

Allegedly, the antsy Pop Idol rebelled against curfew rules one starry night - and consequently - ended up being escorted home by the local men-in-blue.

How did the late-night adventure in the dark mean streets of the city come about?

"My friend slept over and we were like, 'Let's go out.' We just went biking and were being stupid but we weren't doing anything bad," he fessed up to the reporter.

"But the police saw us and brought me back home, because there was a curfew on the area! It was two in the morning, and I got grounded for a month! That's the worse trouble I've ever been in."

Justin, let's hope it stays that way!

Life in the fast lane has many temptations, after all.

Just ask Lindsay Lohan!

Justin Bieber...shows basket on Saturday Night Live! Skit borderline taboo...

Justin Bieber is busting out.

In fact, if his appearance on Saturday Night live is any indication, the sexy heart-throb is a studly mass of raging hormones these days.

Until now, Justin's high-energy stage performances have been cutesy well-choreographed numbers, wrapped around a multitude of nifty riffs the pop star has ably warbled to in tribal moments that have appealed to the young and old at heart.

Last night, audiences were not only treated to a rawer gutsier side, but one that flaunted a basket potent enough to conjure up sexual fantasies way beyond the puppy-dog image that has plagued him 'til now.

Was it the cut of the jeans that accented his crotch (surely it wasn’t a sock he was packing?) or was the kid actually getting aroused by all the attention (an adrenalin rush, for starters) fans were showering on the chart-topping pop icon?

In contrast to his appearance on Leno, Bieber was inclined to passionately pound his chest with his right hand.

In my day, it was known as being versatile, if you catch my drift.

At one point, teen mag’s flavor of the month actually jumped up on the podium - twisted his trim bod around to face the drummer - and shook his butt to camera.

Get that kid a pole, folks!

A hilarious skit with Tina Fey about a teach who gets the hots for a sexy male student (Bieber) skirted with a normally-taboo subject

Naughty!

Something tells me the industry hasn’t tapped into Bieber's full potential .

Can a reality show and Playgirl be far behind?

Justin Bieber...butches up act on Jay Leno!

Was Justin Bieber intentionally transforming his squeaky-clean image, right before our very eyes on the Jay Leno show last night?

From this perch, it appeared that the teen sensation was trying to butch up his act.

When he strode up to take a seat next to Jay shortly after dancing up a storm to the beat of his new hit single, he revealed a cocky side, when he plunked down on the couch and tossed one foot up on the coffee table.

I sensed that the lack of manners, though a show of sudden butchness, may have ticked Leno off.

But, not one to turn his back on  a meal ticket, the congenial host proceeded to ignore the rude conduct.

Then, the young Canadian upstart surprised us all when he noted - with a straight face - that if he wasn't a performer he'd like to be mechanic.

Now, baby-faced Bieber was swaggering into sure-fire studly territory

Perhaps it was Justin's knee-jerk reaction to  a hilarious segment on TMZ last night which turned the spotlight on a web site that pays tribute to young lesbian women who are the spitting image of the pop idol.
The novel social hub features candid shots of lesbian women outfitted in tight t-shirts, straight-legged designer jeans, and requisite page boy "do".

The web page is known for loving beaver - um - Bieber.

Chaz Bono eat your heart out!

The tom-boy look is all the rage among nubile lesbos, after all.

I wonder, do they strap their breasts down tight, or were the gals just flat-chested (like Justin) to begin with?

Bieber is basking in the glow of the phenomenal success of his new release My World 2.0.

It roared to the top of the charts after rustling up 230,000 sales.

The popular musical whiz is the youngest male solo artist to chart since Stevie Wonder in 1963.

The night before, Bieber put in an appearance on American Idol with image-maker USHER in tow.

"If you were a contestant on the show, could you handle Simon Cowell," Jay quizzed.

He laughed out loud and shook his head (in disgust?).

Piece of cake, obviously.

Bieber took everyone by surprise this week, when he bought out an established show-biz web site, lock stock and barrel.

The site - Bieber or Die - features a multitude of publicity stills of the pop singer.

And, some hilarious comedy sketches.

For instance, in one video he spouts off into the camera that a trendy nightclub turfed him out for being underage.

"So, I bought the place. Turned it into a Chuck E. Cheese," he laughed hysterically into camera.

"I swim after I eat, too. I don't care," he mugged to the camera with an adorable pouty grin on his mug.

At this juncture, he jumped on his bicycle, and quipped to a pal.

"Let's go get a lollipop!"

Actually, he probably roared off in his new Range Rover.

Will success spoil Justin Bieber?

Justin Bieber...not tweeting gets handler arrested! NBC anchor shocked...

A News Anchor on NBC TV, just moments ago, said it best.

"What is the world coming to when you get arrested for NOT tweeting!"

His cohorts on the News desk let out a roar of laughter.

But, in a nutshell, that is what happened to the manager of teen sensation, Justin Bieber.

I have to back up a moment, though,

If you recall, I penned a profile on the teen sensation Justin Bieber over the weekend.

In that post, I casually mentioned that the Police threatened to arrest the pop star, if he tried to enter a shopping mall after an unprecendented number of fans swarmed the retail outlet potentially endangering all in attendance.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/03/justin-bieberfans-chase-pop-idol-down.html

Although the men in blue stopped short of that over-the-top threat in respect to Justin Bieber - in an about-face - they elected to file charges against his manager (Scott "Scooter" Braun)  - for failing to take prompt action when requested to do so on the day of the incident in November.

Allegedly, Braun was expected to cancel the appearance when it was evident that things had gotten out of hand.

When the gutsy handler failed to acknowledge - and instead - posted a tweet on Justin's visible online Tweet account noting that he was "on his way" to Roosevelt Field Mall (to meet and greet fans) it became crystal clear to law enforcement that he was thumbing his nose at them.

In fact, Police Officials have asserted that the willful act encouraged a throng of fans to continue to journey on and congregate at the mall , thus making a dangerous situation worse.

Today, Mr. Braun turned himself into authorities in NYC, and  was summarily  booked on charges of reckless endangerment and acts of criminal nuisance arising from the frenzied incident.

In response, the manager's attorney has stated for the record - that contrary to the allegations - his client responded in a timely manner (within ten minutes).

Subsequently, a formal request is being made to authorities, to reopen the investigation.

There are many reasons why a young man, not familiar with the law, may have been slow to respond.

When "Scooter" was  asked to shut down the concert, perhaps he wanted to seek some legal advice from his lawyer first, to ascertain what action to take.

Maybe, he was afraid to respond.

Interacting with police, without benefit of counsel, can be a risky proposition.

A hard copy of a tweet may end up being a piece of evidence in a trial proceeding, after all.

Braun's attorney explains away the delay with a shrug.

"Absent Scooter having a Superman's cape, he couldn't have done it any faster," attorney Ravi Batra told NBC newsies in New York.

"As a result of his (Braun's) lawful compliance with police instruction, [we believe the D.A.] will dismiss the charges after reopening the investigation."

Needless to say, Braun has entered a plea of not guilty.

On the sidelines, many are shaking their heads.

Is Bieber's manager just not on the ball, or the only 29-year-old without a smart phone in his pocket, some had wondered aloud.

In contrast, as I reported in my post (link above), Justin Bieber is a "smart" kid, keen on his responsibilities to his fans.

When a mob of excited teenyboppers hounded his car as he was exiting a parking lot at recording studio late last week,, he quickly tweeted a message to his fan base requesting that they step away from the vehicle so no one would get hurt.

Exemplary conduct, Justin.

Boomer needs to take a cue from you, kid!

Oh, baby!

Kristen Stewart...alluring in Adventureland! Hilarious college pic entertainining...

Big fans of Kristen Stewart may want to catch ADVENTURELAND, a youth-oriented film which focuses on College students and their sexual hi-jinks, while toiling away at their ho-hum summer jobs.

At New Beverly Cinema last night, on a double-bill (with Zombieland!), I found myself chortling away at a lot of snappy dialogue, sight gags, and the folly of youth depicted in the 2009 production.

Ms. Stewart essentially steals the film out from under the other talented actors - in part due - to her natural acting style and a confidence on screen that resonates with filmgoers.

A curly-haired gawky teen - with active hormones - is hard to resist, too; in fact, his persona is downright captivating.

In the simple straight-forward storyline, the lead character - James (played by Jesse Eisenberg) - has just graduated with a degree from Oberlin College.

His big plan to tour Europe over a school break is cut short when his father is transferred and strained resources force James to take on a summer job at the local theme park

With the help of close friend Frigo (Matt Bush) he takes up smoking marijuana (which triggers some side-splitting scenarios) and the lusty pursuit of babe watching as his raging hormones start to kick into high gear out-of-the-blue.

In no time flat, he is bonding with co-workers, and finding his place in the scheme of things.

Oh, and on the fast-track to getting laid, too.

He's funny, offbeat, and perfect in the role of foil.

Ryan Reynolds is surprisingly low-key (and effective) in the skin of a part-time musician who claims to have once jammed with Lou Reed (keen on the right moves to launch to land a babe in the sack).

He's treading water as the park's mechanic who quickly and efficiently fixes things.

There is nothing earth-shattering going down in ADVENTURELAND, but if you're looking for a couple of hours of  mindless entertainment, this bud's for you.

The Last American Virgin...Diane Walker & Lawrence Monoson wow audience! Teen flick a risque stand-out...

Too bad Boaz Davidson was unable to attend the recent screening of  " Last American Virgin" at the New Beverly Cinema.

It would have warmed his heart to have witnessed first-hand  the ecstatic response the film ("now" a classic) rustled up from the packed house (even at the witching hour at the stroke of midnight).

Appearances by pretty Karen Walker and Lawrence Monoson really thrilled the fans, too.

Ms Walker - I won't speculate on her age (though I'm sure I am older than the charming lady) - looked stunning in a red body-fitting cocktail dress and tasteful understated accessories.

Outgoing down-to-earth lead actor - Lawrence Monoson - was well-received also.

In fact, Julia (host for the evening who fielded questions before the film started up) was positively tongue-tied by the presence of an actor she obviously adored.

HD Video Clip / New Beverly Cinema

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ__lOvy31s

In the Q & A the fit likeable star recalled a funny incident with Golan and Globus (Cannon films) during the casting process.

When the purveyors of what some might call "soft porn" - with a commercial bent, mind you - informed the actor he landed the part there was one small detail to resolve.

The producers were required to check his license to ensure he was within the legal age to work on this project which featured a lot of gratuitous sex, naughty dialogue, and controversial subjects such as teen abortion.

"I left it at home," he responded somewhat awkwardly.

A little white lie?

OMG!  He was underage.

After promising to return with the all-important legal documents for his entree into the glamorous world of Hollywood, he dashed home beside himself with grief.

When he explained his woe to his mother she was already one step ahead.

Darling, come by the office, and we'll work this out.

Lawrence claimed that when he arrived at the workplace, a couple of his mother's friends were stooped over a table with razor blades, a photo, and a product used to laminate documents.

Uh-huh!

They whipped up a fake ID, allegedly.

When he returned to the Cannon production office the producers took a glance at the handiwork of his mother's friends and laughed among themselves.

Yeah, he couldn't hoodwink those wise old suits.

Needless to say, they looked the other way, and he got the part.

Once the teen comedy sprang to life on the screen I was totally drawn in.

Frankly, I was a bit taken aback by some of the material, in view of the era in which it was shot.

A particulrlyr hilarious scene featured a group of boys in the locker room lined up to have their c**ks measured to see who was the biggest.

Wouldn't 'ya know it, the nerdy kid with the horn-rimmed glasses, measured in at 9 inches.

Actually, the teen contested that, and demanded a second shot at the ruler.

"It's nine-and-a-half. Don't cheat me," he angrily grumbled in so many words.

How they got by the censors with those "hard-on's" parading by in skimpy white skivvies up-close on the wide screen, I'll never know.

Quite risque (and an erotic turn-on for even the most stalwart prude)

In another scene, one boy ends up climbing into bed with the mother of a girl he is about to make out with, which just about brings the house down.

But, the scenes where the boys unhappily discover they've caught "crabs" (and seek out treatment) are downright side-splitting fun.

One of the actors, Steve Antin, really impressed me with his on-screen persona.

He was so photogenic and radiated this remarkable natural energy.

Where is he now, I wonder.

Ms. Walker was captivating, too.

At times - with her fresh innocent face and curly auburn locks - she looked for all-the-world like a porcelain doll.

Another actor with just four lines in the film (Paul Keith) noted that the fact he was in "American Virgin" landed  him a part.

For example, at an audition, one casting director was awestruck when he noticed the credit on his resume.

"You were in The Last American Virgin," he asked increduously.

"Can you get me a copy?"

Nicolas Cage was apparently knocked out, too, when the bit player crossed paths with the acting icon and mentioned the film credit to him.

The sound track is pretty phenomenal and rife with all the big hits of that time frame.

At times, I thought I was listenng to Love Songs on the coast.

A bit melodramatic at times, Virgin still stands out as a true bona-fide leader-of-the-pack in respect to coming-of-age films.

For details on the plot and background history, check out my post published earlier this week:

What a hoot.

Catch the flick if you can next time around at the New Beverly Cinema.

After all, I don't even know that the film is available as a rental.

How about you?

The Last American Virgin...screens @ New Beverly Cinema! Boaz Davidson & Paul Keith @ Q & A...

Midnight Screening!

Saturday night - date night and on the eve before romantic Valentine's Day - Amoeba Music and Phil Blankenship present a screening of "The Last American Virgin"

The classic comedy (written and directed by Boaz Davidson) will hit the funny bone at midnight.

If the witching hour doesn't cause you to howl, the movie - starring Lawrence Monoson, Diane Franklin, Steve Antin, Joe Rubbo, Louisa Moritz, Brian Peck, and Kimmy Robertson - surely will

At press time - actors Lawrence Monoson, Diane Franklin and Paul  Keith - were scheduled to appear live! and in person! for an interactive Q &A with the audience.

In a nutshell, the storyline revolves around a posse of cliche characters.

But, the lens is keenly focused on a regular teen (Gary) who attends high school - and his two best pals - Rick (a wolf with an eye for the ladies) and David (the stereotypical fat guy friend who gets laughs for all his sight gags).

Typical of most pimply-faced teens, the three lads are always keen on getting laid.

In one scene, the horny dudes try to steal glances at naked nubile pretties in a dressing-room next door by way of a secret peep hole.

In another, a bodacious babe is tricked into having sex in exchange for a hit of cocaine (which turns out to be sweet & low or some such thing).

Very sweet and very low!

The Last American Virgin is a remake of an Israeli film.
(Eskimo Limon / 1978)

Once a string of sequels played themselves out, Boaz Davidson hooked up with producers Golan-Globus (OMG! Do you remember those flakes to take a shot at a production geared towards the American market.

Eskimo Limon was originally a modest feature about kids growing up in 1950s Israel!

Yup!  Think American Graffiti (George Lucas).

For a more widespread appeal the location was switched to a suburb in Los Angeles.

The scintillating soundtrack was a knock out hit which included olden golden goodies, classic rock, and contemporary New Wave.

Curtain:  11:59 p.m.
Tickets:   $7

See 'ya there!

My brother passed away...a curious karmic relationship!

Toronto the good!
(my home town)

Gifted with love beads in 1969!
(Vancouver)

Last night I received a communication out-of-the-blue that my brother died.

In spite of the fact I was taken away from my family when I was seven - and made a ward of the State - I couldn't help but choke up when the sad news arrived.

Suddenly, I wondered about God's purpose and the reason for the strange karmic relationship with Bill.

Actually, my whole life has unfolded in a bizarre fashion, not unlike an intriguing novel.

In fact, at times I feel quite alien on this plane of existence.

Just maybe, I'm from another planet, and here to experience the human condition?

Until I was seven, I was raised at my mother's home on Old Weston  (Toronto) with the rest of the family (except for my father who died when I was a baby).

When I was transplanted out to the suburbs to the care of the Rigbys - I was soon out-of-touch - and on my new journey.

I didn't reunite with Billy (William) until the age of fifteen.

For one semester (at Humberside High) I snapped up his offer to reside in one room on the upstairs floor of the house that his wife's father provided for them to raise their children comfortably and safely.

Bill and his wife, Betty, were blessed with three healthy babies (Sandra, Scott and Sheila).

Actually, the teen lovers were babies when they married;  Bill, just twenty, and his wife sixteen!

For that reason - and a gambling streak fueled by alcholism - a separation was inevitable.

Bill was quite unlike me, wiry and earthy.

My uncle allegedly landed him a full-time job as a postal worker in Toronto - and for several years - he was a responsible worker who met his end admirably.

He was keen on hockey, a good cigar, and a beer or two (or three) while catching the game in the living-room from his favorite armchair.

But, the old demon rum started to take hold, and the young couple began to quarrel.

One day, Betty was preparing to do the laundry, when she stumbled on eighty dollars hidden in Bill's sock.

Angry about the dishonesty, Betty snatched it up, out of spite.

Boy, was there a row when he got home, and reached for his stash only to find it gone.

For the most part, we got along.

But, one day, everything came crashing down.

At that time, the Beatles and the Stones were popular, and all my friends at school were growing their hair.

When mine started to get a bit shaggy, Bill gave the directive to Betty that I go and get my ears "lowered".

How I ended up with such a conservative nerd as a brother, I'll never know, I thought at the time.

I tried to avoid the issue by coming home late after school (or hiding in my room until the dinner hour).

Finally, there was an ultimatum one night.

"Bill wants to know when you're going to get your haircut," Betty quizzed.

"The barber shop is closed," I half-whispered under my breath.

At this juncture Bill gave me a deadline.

"Tomorrow. Or else."

Curiously, the next day, I was scheduled to meet with my social worker.

When I explained the problem, he advised I speak to one of their therapists, and get some advice.

The gentleman was quite outgoing and made me feel at ease right away when I strolled into his office a bit meekly.

When I explained the dilemma he got straight to the point.

"Do you want to get your hair cut?"

"No. But, I don't want to upset my brother or cause trouble."

At this point, he leaned over the table, and calmly explained that it was my hair and that I should do what I wanted with it.

"Stop being a coward," he added.

So, that evening, I slowly made the long walk home.

As soon as I sat down to eat, my brother tensed up, and gave my sister-in-law a look.

"Why didn't you get your hair cut," she asked a bit nervously.

"Because I didn't want to," I barely uttered audibly.

There was huge silence - in fact - it was so loud it was deafening.

Suddenly, my brother jumped up with his plate of food in his hand, without warning.

As Betty and I hung our heads, Bill dashed into the other room and slammed his plate down on the arm of his chair -at which point - the impact broke the plate into smithereens.

"Nobody ever does anything I say," he shouted at the top of his lungs, as his food  scattered all over the carpet.

To avoid any further conflict or confrontation, I dashed upstairs, and threw myself down on my bed.

I was beside myself.

Suddenly, I recalled reading an article in the local newspaper that a lot of unhappy teens were heading out to Vancouver to become a part of the hippie movement.

And, get this, they all had long hair!

I packed up a few articles of clothing, and with the cash I was supposed to use to buy a winter coat,  purchased a bus ticket to go west instead.

That was the last time I ever saw or spoke to my brother.

I hoped to make amends one day, but obviously, it was not in the cards.

As to being separated from my mother, I have one nugget of wisdom for social workers to consider.

"There is no substitute for a mother's love."

Glee...DVD release with smattering of uncut clips! $39.98 @ Fox...

20 Century Fox has just released a DVD featuring episodes streamed to date with a smattering of choice clips to thrill any devoted fan of the web-based pop culture hit.

This entertaining release (sure to keep impatient viewers at bay until the second half of the season revs up in April) includes what has been described as a bizarre off-beat five-minute intro on celebrated McKinley High School, clips on heretofore unknown real-life facets of the actor who plays a wheel-chair-bound character on the Fox hit, music videos, and uncut full-length performances previously edited judiciously for the format of the 4 star bill-of-fare.

The DVD is titled:

"Glee Season 1: The Road to Sectionals"

The dynamite DVD packet may be purchased for $39.98 online @ Fox.

If the disc appears to be a bit slick and heavy on the promotional side, it's because it was thrown together by the marketing department, with the ultimate aim of widening the viewer base and satiating the perpetual hunger for all-things GLEE by a frenzied youth audience always begging for more.
