Ryan Reynolds...masturbates to Spanish Soap Operas! Prefers 6 pack of beer, eh?

On the show-biz circuit to promote the "Green Lantern" (released around the country at a theatre near you this week) Ryan Reynolds (sexy flavor of the month) fessed up that he was suspended from a high school in Vancouver (B.C.) for being a naughty cut-up when he was a pimply-faced teen.

But, the penalty - according to the buffed hunk (who sauntered out from behind the curtain in an elegant cream-colored suit teamed with a tasteful chic tie on one top-rated talk-show) - was a plus.

"That's punishment? Staying home from school?" he chuckled to the host, in so many words.

"I just laid back on my bed all day and masturbated to Spanish soap operas!"

Uh-huh!

Those Latino hunks are sure to cause a rise in the old Levis - if that's your cup-of-tea - that is.

Maybe Ryan should hook up with Ricky Martin next time they cross paths on the red carpet, eh?

By the way, Mr. Reynolds appears to have "butched-up" his act a smidgen since the last time I caught one of his insightful (!) interviews on the telly.

Somehow, the outgoing performer came across as less "gay" than he usually does.

His cut muscled bod doesn't hurt his image, for starters.

But, according to the charismatic actor - who triggers whoops and hollers from fans (both female & male) whenever he makes a public appearance (and in movie theatres when he pops up on screen) - he's ready to heave whenever a reporter quizzes him about his awesome abs.

Now that the action-adventure film is in the can and screening around the Nation - and the strenuous work-outs are behind him - the handsome thespian underscores that he pines to loll about on the couch and chug-a-lug about ten beers.

"I'm Canadian, after all," he shrugs, without apology.

Yup!

Us Canucks can party-hearty, alright.

And, kick some butt, when the local hockey team loses big time in a sports match.

By the way, I intend to catch the "Green Lantern" over the weekend (and will post a review in the next few days).

'Til then!

People's Choice Awards...kicks off New Year with glitzy bash!

While critics and academy members were gearing up for the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscars - the little people at home in their armchairs in front of the TV and below the floodlights at the local theatre - were busy rustling up their faves for the much-anticipated People's Choice Awards.

Last night, the industry turned out amidst a lot of fanfare to celebrate their choices!

Among the winners?

Jane Lynch was a shoe-in for favorite comedy actress.

But, some were surprised when Conan O'Brien edged out Big "O" and snatched up the coveted statuette for Best Talk show!

"I've been loving the new show, and we're very comfortable doing it, but I like things to evolve," he noted after graciously accepting the award.

In that event, I expect viewers may expect some transformations over the next few months, eh?

Although Johnny Depp has been in the dumper with film reviewers - in large part due to his last role in the box office flop in the big-budget fiasco - "The Tourist" - fans remained loyal.

Uh-huh!

Depp was named favorite male actor!

It was a no-brainer, of course, when "Twilight" scooped up the nod for best film category.

Don't underestimate the voting power of a gaggle of adoring giggling female fans!  No doubt Robert Pattinson's sexy screen persona boosted the ballots a tad with the teeny-bopper set.

By the way, Kristen Stewart was chosen as favorite Movie Actress.

Neil Patrick was all smiles when he strode to the podium to accept an award for his role in "How I met your Mother".

The kid's longevity in the biz has been simply amazing, hasn't it?
Katy Perry and Eninem scored big as female and male music artists respectively.

The popular People's Choice Awards were broadcast live on CBS and hosted by hilarious Queen Latifah - a heavyweight in the industry - oh yeah!

Conan O'Brien...Jack Nicholson mystery guest? Nov 8th on TBS!

No doubt - there will be a lot of hoopla - when Conan O’Brien launches his cable talk show on TBS November 8th.

Although, it is doubtful the lanky stand-up comic will be able to match the avalanche of good press he rustled up impromptu when he exited NBC amid a storm of controversy, just betcha the zany hilarious comic (with the infectious grin) will roar to the top of the ratings heap opening night.

If the promos for Conan’s new baby are indicative of the hilarity to come - I’ll probably hold up on the channel surfing (normally the norm for moi) - until the last credit crawls to a close on the flat state-of-the-art screen.

On the season opener, Seth Rogan and musician Jack White are slated to flop down on the couch - or some reasonable facsimile thereof - and spout off as they’re egged on by old freckle face.

Other  guests putting in an appearance the first week include  Jack McBrayer, Soundgarden, Jon Hamm, Charlyne Yi, Michael Cera, and Julie Bowen.

Apparently, there will be a surprise "unannounced" guest chosen by fans of the show.

Rumor has it that Jack Nicholson may stop by to toast Conan and his new gab fest.

Break a leg, Conan!

62nd Annual Emmy Awards...Glee nabs 19 nominations! Jimmy Fallon to host...

Am I pretty enough?

Officials in charge of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards announced bright-and-early today that quirky "Glee" earned 19 Emmy nominations - then - moved on to toss the spotlight on a roster of shows that also rustled up deserving nods for excellence in the Television medium.

"The Pacific" - an  HBO miniseries about Marines in World War II's Pacific theater - topped all candidates in-the-running with 24 nominations.

"The Good Wife" - starring Julianna Margulies - nabbed kudos for best drama and best actress in a drama series.

"Modern Family" (best comedy series) snapped up 14 nominations.

To no one's surprise - "Friday Night Lights" cast (Kyle Chandler & Connie Britton) earned acting nods for their work on the much-touted series.

A perennial favorite - "Saturday Night Live" (in its 35th season) - earned 12 nods.

The hilarious late-night bill-of-fare still has strong legs, eh?

NBC must have been kicking themselves when it was announced that Conan O'Brien's "Tonight Show" was nominated for best variety, music or comedy series.

Curiously, Jay Leno and David Letterman were shut out of the category.

Dirty show-biz politics behind-the-scenes playing a role here?

"Lost" - though cancelled - managed to still earn a nom for best drama series and best actor in a drama (Matthew Fox).

Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson got supporting-lead nods.

"Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Mad Men" and "True Blood" won approval in the best drama category.

In total - "Mad Men" - racked up a stunning 17 nominations.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Nurse Jackie," "The Office" and "30 Rock",  "Glee" and "Modern Family" were named best comedy series nominees.

"Monk"  picked up a comedy series best actor nomination for star Tony Shalhoub.

"The Amazing Race" - which has won the best reality competition Emmy since the category was first introduced years ago - was lumped in with other nominees once again alongside "American Idol," "Dancing With the Stars," "Project Runway" and "Top Chef".

Two Made-for-TV movies - "Temple Grandin" and "You Don't Know Jack" - ended up in the spotlight as well.

Claire Danes got a notice for her role in "Temple Grandin".

Al Pacino was lauded for his portrayal of Dr. Jack Kevorkian.
 (You Don't Know Jack)

HBO led the network pack with 101 nominations.

ABC nudged in the lead with 63 nods in the broadcast TV arena.

Emmy fans are looking forward to a high-profile celebration with Jimmy Fallon at the helm on August 29th (NBC) which will be telecast live from the Nokia center in downtown Los Angeles.

See 'ya there!

George Lopez...adamant he wasn't Leno'd by TBS! Oh yeah...

Give me liberty
(a paycheck will do)

George Lopez can shovel it out, but when the sh** comes back his end, he can't take it!

The jovial talk-show host - who just got kicked back to the witching hour (the dead zone) to accommodate Conan O'Brien's new gab fest on TBS in the fall - was angry about the insinuation that he was snubbed like CoCo a scant few weeks ago.

So much so, in fact, that he retorted into camera on one nightly tabloid news show:

"I wasn't Leno'd!"

Wasn't he?

The facts have obviously slipped the rotund stand-up-comic's memory - or he's a little slow - on the uptake.

When NBC shuffled their schedule to slot Jay Leno back into his comfortable nook at 11:30 pm - they first approached Conan - with the offer to slide back into the midnight hour.

After due consideration, if you recall, O'Brien turned the peacock network execs down flat.

Georgie boy elected to kow-tow and accepted the slight with a gracious response.

"Sure, boss!"

Whether George likes the comparison, or not, he was Leno'd!

Pride is a terrible thing, George!

Conan O'Brien...CoCo lands talk-fest at TBS! November kick-off...

Bad Hair days over for Conan!

Once Conan O’Brien wraps up his 3-month tour around the country - which kicks of this week - the quirky comic won’t have much time to throw up his feet and take a breather.

News out of the O’Brien camp - after all - is that the former NBC late night talk-show host will set up shop at TBS.

Looks like Conan slipped through Fox’s trembling fingers.

Although George Lopez has been rustling up respectable numbers in the 11 p.m. slot, the cable network execs were inclined to bump him into the witching hour.

Lopez will hit the airwaves at the stroke of midnight.

An immigrant to the talk-show circuit, Lopez didn't appear to mind stepping aside for a full-fledged citizen, as of press time.

I expect the snub will be a bit of fodder for stand-up comics over the next few days.

Congrats, CoCo!

Just airbrush out NBC logo, Conan!

Conan O'Brien...CoCo's 30-city tour! Kicks off in Eugene...

NBC monkey on CoCo's back!

Conan O'Brien - fresh off a tustle with NBC over the Jay Leno time-slot fiasco - will be packing up his kit 'n Kaboodle and heading out on a National Tour.

The thirty-city trail-blazer will include much-anticipated comedy stage performances live at Radio City Music Hall on June 1st & June 2nd.

With tongue firmly in cheek - and a devil-may-care attitude - the fun-lovin' stand-up comic has titled his sojourn into the wilds of the heartland as:

"The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour"

The phrase was coined with NBC's contractual agreement first & foremost in the funnyman's fuzzy little brain.

For example, when O'Brien settled his differences with the peacock network, he agreed not to perform on the old boob tube until after September 1st.

Obviously, the binding NBCdirective  would give Jay Leno ample opportunity to regain his stature (and top ratings) in the late-night talk-show circuit, without interference from the red-haired one affectionately known as CoCo to loyal fans.

O'Brien is promising a show that will offer up a night of music, comedy, hugging (as they say at Facebook, I like!), and the occasional awkward silence (in lethal doses, no doubt).

The tour will kick off in a humble (but celebrated) venue in Eugene, Oregon.

Obviously, there is no bad blood between Conan and his former employers, when you consider that the King of off-beat repartee, will saunter into Universal Studios on April 24th & April 25th for local gigs sure to sell out (psst! NBC owns Universal).

American Express scooped up sponsorship duties without blinking an eye.

The tickets are reasonably-priced at $39.50 at the economical end.

Jay & Conan carve out territory!

Jay Leno...Comics tar & feather NBC's strutting peacock...

Will Leno take it on the chin?

Well, if Jay Leno was sprawling on the couch last night - snacking on natchos and flipping channels to rustle up a bit of material for this weeks run of "show" of "shows" - it was probably a tough row to hoe.

No wonder!

All over the night-time TV talk-show terrrain, the slack-jawed comic's contemporaries were tar-and-feathering the peacock network's top dawg!

Dave Letterman lit into him, for example, without mercy.

In a monologue called - "Law & Order: Leno's Victim's Unit" - he lumped the whole sorry cast of late-night comics together (Conan, Fallon & Carson Daly) and branded 'em Leno's victims.

Ouch!

Then, Dave drummed up a hilarious impression of the beleaguered comic - which was pretty darn impressive - according to most side-splitting accounts.

"They just want Conan to quit and go away and do a show in his basement," he later huffed.

Jimmy Kimmel - tossed on a "do" and in-your-face chin - and spiced up the schtik with an acid quip or two.

Will Leno take a swipe back tonight - or, be a goodie-two-shoes - and take it on the jaw?

News at - um - 10!

Contrary to popular belief Dave & Conan not one in the same person!
(just joined at the hip)

San Francisco...Neil Patrick Harris & Conan O'Brien slated for Sketchfest!

Doogie Howser comes of age!

The 9th annual SF Sketchfest Celebration of Comedy touts guest appearances this year by talented Neil Patrick Harris, Conan O'Brien (licking his wounds?) and famed talk-show King Dick Cavett (to name a few).

For die-hard fans of comedy, the fest - whick revs up this Friday (January 15th) and jolts funny bones until February 2nd - is a must attend.

One of the highlight events is "Celebrity Autobiography" (Jan.30th & 31st) which headlines former Dougie Howser star Harris.

At press time, the award-winning actor was still mulling over bios to offer up in his much-anticipated appearance at the rollicking fest.

Tomes by Sarah Palin and David Hasselhoff kicking around inside his head are major contenders for the wicked jab he is allegedly comtemplating.

"The less you try to make it a comedy hit, the funnier it is," he joked to one reporter in recent days.

Because the charismatic star  is slated to mug for the cameras this week-end @ the Golden Globe Awards (he's been nominated for the coveted award this year) the out actor was forced to bow out of  "Match Game" (a popular sketchfest program) which gets underway the same night in Frisco.

Other much-talked about events include Weird Al Yankovich in conversation with Chris Hardwick (web soup), a Fred Willard chat at the screening of "Waiting for Guffman", and Moon Zappa's stab at improvising stories penned by good old dad (legendary Frank Zappa).

See 'ya there!

Conan O'Brien...howling @ witching hour! No go, says lanky comic...

NBC blows!

If I was forced to quote a line from a comic (or two) to summarize the nasty scenario unfolding at NBC in recent days, I'd  to quote one straight from the comedy duo "Laurel & Hardy".

"Another fine mess you've gotten me into."

Promises promises promises - that don't look like they're going to pan out for Conan O'Brian after all -  eh?

Unfortunately, the other shoe dropped earlier today, when O'Brian officially announced to the strutting peacock brass (in addition to apologizing for his bad hair) that it's a no-go his end for a shot at the witching hour.

In a sly attempt to have their cake and eat it, too, the powers-that-be at NBC tried to wangle a deal to not only keep three of their top money-makers happy, but prevent them from bolting the airwaves of their fourth-place airwaves.

The splashy (!) new line-up would have slotted Leno in at 11:35 pm, with Conan to follow at 12:05 am, and Fallon slipping deeper into the caverns of  insomniac hell.

The proposal - while creative - appears to have been a clever ploy to squeeze Conan out.

Well, it worked magic, alright.

Conan's not mad as hell (and not "not taking it anymore").

In fact, the lanky freckled-faced comic has managed to handle the whole sticky mess with a modicum of style and grace.

In a prepared statement - in addition to noting that we would not drop back thirty minutes to accommodate the proposed re-tooled schedule - the tactful talk-show host cited grounds that would not offend his bosses (or anyone else for that matter).

"I want no part in damaging what I consider the greatest fanchise in the history of broadcasting."

In spite of his reluctance to carry on - he came clean and admitted for the record that he currently has no offers on the table - in response to frenzied speculation that he might jump ship to breeze over to Fox (itching to spark things up in the late-night talk-show arena).

O'Brien's full statement is posted below for your amusement.

People of Earth:

"In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky."

"That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision."

"Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009."

"Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future."

"It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both."

"But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule."

"Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35."

"For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news."

"I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting."

"The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show."

"Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot."

"That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy."

"So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show."

"But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn't matter."

"But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more."

"There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next."

"My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work."

"Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it's always been that way."

Yours
Conan

Sounds like Conan needs a good divorce lawyer!
