Ricky Martin...Sexy Superstar Crooner on stage live! Nokia Theatre! May 7th!



Ricky Martin - once the focus of a throng of hysterical teen-age girls - is slated to appear live! on stage at the Nokia Theatre on May 7th (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m.

Though the sexy superstar pop singer has disappeared from the searing glare of the spotlight in recent years, the Latino heartthrob still boasts a huge fan following.

In fact, in spite of  "coming out" at the height of his once-sizzling hot career, Ricky remains a big draw, and is one charismatic celebrity bon-bon shaker still capable of selling-out concert halls. 

Quite a few of his adoring female fans still pine for the ultra-hot bump-and-grind sex symbol - in spite of the fact he is not "available" - because of his well-known status as an "out" gay man.

"I don't care if he's gay, he' so cute and a great stage performer," one fan gushed when the news first broke about his private life.

In that regard, he's certainly a phenomena in the music industry.

His "homosexuality" came as no surprise to moi!

For good reason!

Years ago, when I was cast to play a small role on General Hospital, I overheard Ricky whisper sweet nothings to his boyfriend on the telephone when I sauntered into the green room unexpectedly out-of-the-blue.

Did the sexy soap stud flinch when he spied me "eaves-dropping" on his steamy conversation with his lover?

Heck, no!

He cruised me subtly.

Discreetly, in fact.

By the gleam in his eye, though, I just knew he was interested in jumping right in between-the-sheets.

Uh-huh!

With his pretty face, and long flowing locks, the Latino beauty was quite the catch back then.

Maybe I should have been quicker on the uptake?

Martin appeared on Jay Leno last night and was surprisingly candid about the drama he suffered through over the issue of his sexuality.

”I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn’t say that I was gay.”

“It was a lot of struggle. If you add to that just call it culture, religion, society, what people say. What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind was evil.”

With those struggles behind him now, Ricky will undoubtedly burst onto the stage of a packed house on the weekend, just oozing with sensuality.

With kids in tow backstage, just betcha!

Though a a bit older, and a family man now, he can still wiggle that tight butt, after all.

People's Choice Awards...kicks off New Year with glitzy bash!

 

While critics and academy members were gearing up for the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscars - the little people at home in their armchairs in front of the TV and below the floodlights at the local theatre - were busy rustling up their faves for the much-anticipated People's Choice Awards.

Last night, the industry turned out amidst a lot of fanfare to celebrate their choices!

Among the winners?

Jane Lynch was a shoe-in for favorite comedy actress.

But, some were surprised when Conan O'Brien edged out Big "O" and snatched up the coveted statuette for Best Talk show!

"I've been loving the new show, and we're very comfortable doing it, but I like things to evolve," he noted after graciously accepting the award.

 In that event, I expect viewers may expect some transformations over the next few months, eh?

Although Johnny Depp has been in the dumper with film reviewers - in large part due to his last role in the box office flop in the big-budget fiasco - "The Tourist" - fans remained loyal.

Uh-huh!

Depp was named favorite male actor!

It was a no-brainer, of course, when "Twilight" scooped up the nod for best film category.

Don't underestimate the voting power of a gaggle of adoring giggling female fans!  No doubt Robert Pattinson's sexy screen persona boosted the ballots a tad with the teeny-bopper set.

By the way, Kristen Stewart was chosen as favorite Movie Actress.

Neil Patrick was all smiles when he strode to the podium to accept an award for his role in "How I met your Mother".

The kid's longevity in the biz has been simply amazing, hasn't it?

Katy Perry and Eninem scored big as female and male music artists respectively.

The popular People's Choice Awards were broadcast live on CBS and hosted by hilarious Queen Latifah - a heavyweight in the industry - oh yeah!

American Music Awards...Justin Bieber nabs 4 Statuettes! Usher gets nod from Pop Idol!

Justin Bieber became the youngest performer ever to snap up a "Best New Artist" honor last night at the fast-paced high-energy American Music Awards which were broadcast live! from downtown Los Angeles.

Indeed, by the time the lights went down at the Nokia Theatre at the end of the dazzling evening, the sizzling hot Pop Star managed to scoop up four of the Golden statuettes in total (including one for best break-out artist of the year).

When Bieber trotted on stage to snap up one award, he was quick to thank Usher, who was also honored with two of the coveted prizes, as well (one for Best male R&B performance).

In so many words, mop-haired "Bieb" acknowledged that the talented showman was not only his "mentor", but also a "best friend and big brother", of sorts.

Usher is credited for having nurtured the career of the young music phenomenon since he was first discovered on YouTube a scant couple of years ago.

The annual awards show belonged mostly to a bevy of dazzling young performers last night - highlighted by live performances from Miley Cyrus, Kate Perry, and fiery-headed Rihanna - although seasoned pros like Carlos Santa also graced the stage in highly-entertaining moments that riveted the audience.

Old boy-band faves - the Back Street Boys and New Kids on the Block - brought back a few nostalgic pangs back for a handful of us older pop music fans.

For the most part, the awards ceremony - amounted to a popularity contest more than anything else (unlike the Grammy Awards or the Oscars in the film arena) - and a shameless stab at self-promotion on occasion.

For example, in one impromptu moment, Nicki Minaj was inclined to tout her debut album.

Nobody else would, I dare say!

In contrast, a low-key Taylor Swift (who was given the nod for favorite female country artist) was quite gracious.

"I only want to thank the fans," she said, with an infectious smile on her face.

"You guys get me and understand me."

62nd Annual Emmy Awards...Jimmy Fallon hosts tonight! NBC extravaganza!

If you watch Television even a smidgen, then it hasn't escaped your attention that the Emmy's are being broadcast tonight from the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

After all, the zany promotional blurbs for one of Hollywood's biggest nights, have been screaming out from the little black box all week.

The 62nd Annual Emmy Awards will be hosted by fun-loving irascible night-time talk-show host Jimmy Fallon.

Showtime: 5 p.m.

To determine the winners of the coveted statuette each year (one of the most beautifully-crafted awards in the industry) members from at least two dozen-or-so prestigious Entertainment groups in current paid-up status (Unions, for example)  vote on candidates in their field of expertise.

In the aftermath of an initial nomination - the Emmy has the potential to beget work, elevate a performer's stature in the industry, boost a salary demand - you name it.

This year, the cast of "Glee" and "Modern Family" are basking in the glow, for instance, in view of a slew of nods eachreceived for a dynamic year of thought-provoking and/or comedic programming which resonated with audiences.

Actor George Clooney (who takes on the role of director and/or producer on occasion) is being honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award this year.

Congrats, George!

62nd Annual Emmy Awards...Glee nabs 19 nominations! Jimmy Fallon to host...

Am I pretty enough?

Officials in charge of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards announced bright-and-early today that quirky "Glee" earned 19 Emmy nominations - then - moved on to toss the spotlight on a roster of shows that also rustled up deserving nods for excellence in the Television medium.

"The Pacific" - an  HBO miniseries about Marines in World War II's Pacific theater - topped all candidates in-the-running with 24 nominations.

"The Good Wife" - starring Julianna Margulies - nabbed kudos for best drama and best actress in a drama series.

"Modern Family" (best comedy series) snapped up 14 nominations.

To no one's surprise - "Friday Night Lights" cast (Kyle Chandler & Connie Britton) earned acting nods for their work on the much-touted series.

A perennial favorite - "Saturday Night Live" (in its 35th season) - earned 12 nods.

The hilarious late-night bill-of-fare still has strong legs, eh?

NBC must have been kicking themselves when it was announced that Conan O'Brien's "Tonight Show" was nominated for best variety, music or comedy series.

Curiously, Jay Leno and David Letterman were shut out of the category.

Dirty show-biz politics behind-the-scenes playing a role here?

"Lost" - though cancelled - managed to still earn a nom for best drama series and best actor in a drama (Matthew Fox).

Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson got supporting-lead nods.

 "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Mad Men" and "True Blood" won approval in the best drama category.

 In total - "Mad Men" - racked up a stunning 17 nominations.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Nurse Jackie," "The Office" and "30 Rock",  "Glee" and "Modern Family" were named best comedy series nominees.

"Monk"  picked up a comedy series best actor nomination for star Tony Shalhoub.

"The Amazing Race" - which has won the best reality competition Emmy since the category was first introduced years ago - was lumped in with other nominees once again alongside "American Idol," "Dancing With the Stars," "Project Runway" and "Top Chef".

Two Made-for-TV movies - "Temple Grandin" and "You Don't Know Jack" - ended up in the spotlight as well.

Claire Danes got a notice for her role in "Temple Grandin".

ABC nudged in the lead with 63 nods in the broadcast TV arena.

Emmy fans are looking forward to a high-profile celebration with Jimmy Fallon at the helm on August 29th (NBC) which will be telecast live from the Nokia center in downtown Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson...protestors disrupt memorial @ Staples Center briefly! One Child-molestor finger-pointer arrested...

In a news flash a short while ago, CBS reported that at least one irate protester outside of the Staples Center - accusing Michael Jackson "out loud" of being a child molester - was arrested for being unruly and causing a disruption in the street as fans and invited guests prepared to attend the much-anticipated Memorial Service for the King of Pop.

In addition, a dozen or so cohorts allegedly held up disparaging signs that screamed out nasty comments in bold handwritten scrawls:

"You're Going to Hell", "Mourn for Your Sins", and "Jacko in Hell".

Obviously, the impromptu protest was directly related to past allegations that the celebrated musician once molested children who were guests at his Neverland Ranch just outside of Santa Barbara, California.

Jackson vigorously fought those allegations openly in court and was acquitted of all charges.

Michael Jackson...tickets! Gone, Gone, Gone...

If you're as antsy as me, you probably checked your e-mail box non-stop yesterday, to determine if you'd been blessed with a couple of coveted tickets for Michael Jackson's Memorial Service downtown Tuesday (July 7th) at the Staples Center.

Fortunately, Ryan Seacrest zipped off a tweet and I was warned in advance that the organizers for the much-anticipated Jackson service, were not going to contact ticket recipients until Monday, July 6th (today).

So, I slipped out the door at dusk last night and hit the nightclub circuit to catch the tail-end of the 4th of July festivities.

This morning, when I plucked up the Los Angeles Times to give it a quick peruse, I suddenly spied a newspaper article which noted briefly that a handful of winners were informed by e-mail communication at about 5:45 pm yesterday afternoon of the outcome of their entries in the draw .

One thrilled couple back East were jubilant that their names were selected by the high-tech computer that must-have whizzed through the entries like lightning and quicker than you can say google!

At first, they were highly-suspicious, according to the reporter.

"They thought they were being scammed."

But, under close-scrutiny, they determined they pulled off the invite of the decade!

Heh, these folks deserve the privilege.

Imagine that, the dedicated fans are laying out cold hard cash to book flights, and fly in from out-of-town to attend the Memorial Service.

later, when I first logged on to the Internet - and opened up Yahoo - I didn't spy one peep from the Jackson folks.

Boo Hoo!

But, when I was scrolling down the in-box a couple of minutes later - an e-mail communication from staples.com - caught my eye.

I clicked on the link not knowing what to expect.

Darn, it was a polite message informing me that the computer ticket-picker, passed me by.

Here it is verbatim:

Thank you for your registration. Sorry, we regret to inform you that your registration to attend the Public Memorial Service for Michael Jackson was not selected. Hundreds of thousands registered, but only a few can be in attendance. S

Even still, I think the event-planners exhibited a lot of class!

I mean, instead of leaving a host of wistful hopefuls twisting in the wind - they were truly thoughtful enough to inform us first-hand - before the lucky few started boasting near and far.

Hats off to Staples, the Jackson's, and the whole slew of handlers organizing the event.

Cool, dudes!

Ironically, a curious news item published nearby in the same edition of the Los Angeles Times, caught my attention - and likewise - signalled that Jackson organizers may have to put up with uninvited guests, nonetheless.

According to the management at Staples, Barnum & Bailey is set to ring up the curtain on their 5-day Circus extravaganza at the stadium day-after tomorrow.

Get this!

Just shy of the hour the Jackson entourage, invited guests, and fans are scheduled to descend on the staples center to pay their last respects, a herd of Elephants is slated to parade down the causeway, too!

Although the organizers were trying to avoid a zoo-like atmosphere at the Memorial Service - ironically, as fate would have - a 3 ring Circus will head up the funeral procession!

Getting hit with a bit of bird sh** may be lucky, but a paddie of Elephant dung, I wonder?

In view of Michael's love for animals, all I can offer up in closing is, what a way to go!
