Miley Cyrus...hot single with catchy beat! A tigress on fire!

Miley Cyrus's fans will be kicking up their heels to the catchy beat of the young music whiz's sizzlin' hot new single -"Who owns my Heart" - on the dance floor in coming weeks.

After all, the video is a jolt - an adrenalin rush - no matter how 'ya cut it!

But, as usual, sexy smiley Miley is anxious to get a message across.

In a couple of gushing interviews over the weekend, the pretty young star of the pop charts (and silver screen, too) was anxious to chat about the thrust of her latest creative endeavour to all within earshot.

"It's just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back, And, I think that's really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told - 'No, you can't do something' - or 'You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this'."

Holding 'ya back from what?

Catching fire?

Miley, you've caught the tail end of a comet, and you're hot!

You go, girl!

Perez Hilton...Porn charges? She was just seventeen! You know what I mean..

In the aftermath of an alleged "up her skirt" snatch & grab publicity still - that Perez Hilton nabbed of Miley Cyrus (some claimed "sans panties") - a pack of vicious wolves started circling the scandal-chaser crying foul.

The lyrics of an old Beatle hit may end up haunting the salacious Queen of the Gossip blogs if the facts ring true.

"She was just seventeen! You know what I mean!"

According to legal eagles, Perez may have overstepped the line if he sought and caught nubile 17-year-old Miley Cyrus with her beaver (as TMZ  cub reporters would kid) flapping in the wind.

Because Miley (in spite of her highly-sexed image) is underage - unexpected am-bushes like that -  are strictly taboo!

Shortly after the controversy streaked like lighting around the Internet - and the twitter broadcast waves became clogged with hysterical speculation - Perez pulled the shot which was originally posted with a disclaimer.

"If you're easily offended, don't look," he warned tongue-in-cheek at his gossip web site.

Today, the tawdry tale was transformed (tailored if you like) - with the specific aim of saving Hilton from the iron-clad jaws of the men-in-blue -  do 'ya think?

After all, a salon.com lawyer asserted that it was "suicidal" to post such a shot.

Hilton responded to the controversy by posting a video in which he lamented that the shot didn't show Cyrus' nether regions.

"She was wearing underwear. I posted the photo because I felt she was exiting the car in an unladylike fashion."

Meanwhile, Internet folks are in a frenzy, because they are miffed at the idea that Perez Hilton may have manipulated the photo to give the wrong impression.

Yeah, the mud is slinging fast and furious just about now.

Miley Cyrus...fabulous darling! Song bird (literally) knocks 'em dead on "Stars"...

Over at Idol - the producers must have been muttering traitor - because their American Sweetheart jumped ship!

OMG!

Rhyming Simon, shampoo-pushing Ryan, and aw-shucks Ellen (in plaid, no doubt) must have been seething backstage at the Fox sound studios when the dreaded news leaked out.

Miley was unveiling her new persona (and a hot new hit)  on ABC TV's weekly entertainment hit - "Dancing with the stars" - neck-in-neck with Idol's karaoke-style show.

And, what a pretty neck it was tonight.

Ms. Cyrus was all dolled up in a flurry of exotic black feathers, and swept-up do, that caused a fascinated studio audience to edge closer in their seats.

Although flattering, the designer frock, was a bit over the top.

For the most part, that was due to the fact that Ms. Cyrus is a petite chanteuse, who must be careful  that fussy fashion statements don't overwhelm her fragile pretty frame.

For one second, as my trained eye followed her strut across the ABC terrain, the image of old-timer Mae West flashed through my mind.

Like the megastar from Hollywood's golden  days, Miley is in complete control, and keenly aware of the impact she is effecting  in her feminine wake.

For the most part, I found little quarrel with the setting, intriguing routine, or the tune itself.

The beat was toe-tapping - at times slightly vampy - and sure to catch on like wildfire at trendy nightspots around the country - as hip kids rustle  up stylish versions of the line dance once again.

While I would have preferred a bit more space between Miley and her talented back-up dancers - so we could get a better gander at Cyrus in action - that part of the choreography revealed an interesting aspect to her personality.

Obviously, the pretty movie star cum musicial artist, is not afraid to share the spotlight with a deserving few at her own expense.

I admire that!

I also felt Ms. Cyrus was too low on the stage when the musical extravaganza started up, and that it would have behooved her to have started higher-up on a multi-levelled podium.

After the pop singer made her grand entrance (without any visual obstructions) it would have been okay to step down and flow in sync with the others.

While her performance appeared to be a bit forced - nervous Miley? - for the most part it signaled a departure which was promising.

By the way, Miley, there should have been a bit more volume on your mic.

Some reverb may have added  a sound dimension that would have worked particularly well with that tune.

In a nutshell, I am intrigued at the future possibilties, in view of the potential hinted at tonight.

Miley Cyrus...Kismet with twitter pal! Video launches controversial dialogue...

Call it Kismet!

Shortly after I rode the wave of media frenzy over Miley Cyrus's latest video offering - during the height of the morning New Hours today - I logged on to e-mail.

There smiling at me from a twitter-generated e-mail was the perky pretty face of the talented chanteuse.

OMG!

For some inexplicable reason, Ms. Cyrus just hopped on the celebrated band-wagon (along with a few notable show-biz legends) and is now following me on twitter!

'Bout time, darling!

After all, I've been avidly "following" your career highs (and lows) for many moons now!

In fact, when the press took a poke at a risque piece of stage threads you tossed on your sensual bod for one high-profile concert, I stood in your corner.

I actually pooh-poohed Perez Hilton's notions, if I recall correctly!

In respect to the controversy today - triggered by the style and content of the  latest video - I muse over the critics' folly.

One of the worst things an artist can do is stand on their laurels or flog to death - what was once an innovative look and sound - due to endless repetition.

In a nutshell, a true artist constantly pushes the envelope in respect to their creativity and vision.

Without taking that risk, there would be no growth, and the sorry minstrel would be left behind in a musical wasteland.

A prime example of this truism?

One-hit wonders!

David Bowie is one musician who has transformed his image over the years to his own advantage (and a heck of a lot of notoriety and acclaim).

Although one phase of the musical expession  may not appeal to die-hard fans, once on the other side, it is wholly possible the next metamorphosis may be the sound that propels the surprised artist into the stratosphere along with the greats like - the Beatles, Madonna, the Rolling Stones - you name it.

Miley, you go girl!

The Last Song...soppy tear-jerker! Star turn for Greg Kinnear...

With all the negative ink spilling out in dailies around the Nation, I wasn't inclined to take the risk of plunking down top dollar for a ticket to a screening of  "The Last Song".

So, I took in a matinee at AMC for a paltry six bucks.

When I strolled into the theatre with my kiddie's pack in hand, I wasn't surprised to find myself surrounded by a gaggle of giggling girls who were obviously die-hard Miley Cyrus fans.

As soon as the flick sprang to life on the silver screen, it was evident from the get-go that I was going to be thrust into an over-the-top production, where the emphasis was more on sensual song than solid story line.

For example, in the opening scene a posse of firemen carry an injured man out of harm's way, as a church burns furiously in the background.

Unfortunately, the music laid in under the dramatic images, was just short of pop puff.

Talk about jarring subliminal messages!

In a nutshell, "The Last Song" is a high-strung emotional tale, about a teen who is shipped off for the summer to bond with her Dad (who is separated from her doting mother) with young brother in tow.

Shortly after the specifics of  the conflicts within the family circle have been served up on a tinny platter, "Ronnie" (played by Cyrus) gets swept up in a summer romance that appears to be more trouble than its worth.

To critics, the scenario was particularly difficult to swallow, for starters.

One film reviewer noted that the malelead's fascination with Ronnie didn't hold much water.

"The object of his affection is supposed to be so special that he pursues her ardently non-stop.  But, because Cyrus's character is not that enticing to begin with , the idea totally suspends belief," he noted in so many words.

While I agree with the critic in respect to the character's overall lack of appeal, on the other hand, there was a justifiable reason for the young stud to pursue her.

For example, it was established in the plotline, that he was intrigued by "Ronnie" because he had grown tired (and disappointed) with the local girls who were shallow and stuck up.

Ms. Cyrus's performance is a little ragged at times - so much so - that after the screening even she was inclined to admit to one media hound that acting lessons would be a good idea.

Her screen image flip-flopped so much (pretty and glowing in one scene, down 'n out and slutty the next)  that I started to ponder whether it was the lighting that was the culprit.

Just maybe, a handful of the shots were "picked up" later, when there was a bold-faced effort to salvage the project after test results were initially negative?

But, don't write Miley off,  because there is a lot of raw talent and potential just waiting to bubble up, given the right material and a director at the helm who knows how to draw it out.

As to the scripted material?

Once I was clued in to the fact the screenplay was conjured up by Notebook writer - Nicholas Sparks - I pretty much fathomed that "The Last Song" was bound to be a tear-jerker of epic proportions.

Sparks did not disappoint in that regard.

There were so many cliches and stale old ideas to wade through, too.

In sum, "The Last Song" is a Hollywood-style Disney pic, with a predictable boy gets girl ending.

Greg Kinnear turned in a stand-out performance that may rustle up award nominations later in the year.

As to the lead actor, Liam Helmsworth, I'd say he's got a shot at Hollywood stardom if he relaxes into his roles and picks more meaty material better suited to flex his "acting" muscles.

After all, pretty-boy hunks are a dime-a-dozen in Hollywood, with a dubious future.

Even if they are sleeping with a star with some clout in the industry.

Ellen DeGeneres...Miley Cyrus niave! Fibber at it again...

Shortly after I published a post yesterday afternoon which focused on Miley Cyrus's growing lack of credibility (she's a teller of tall tales, after all) I found myself yelling at the old boob a few minutes later when Miley trotted out on the stage of the "Ellen Show" and proceeded to chat up a storm.

"There you go again."

In a post last week, I reported that Miley shut-down her twitter account, because she alleged threats were received from users who were angry with comments she made in support of Gay Marriage.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/03/miley-cyrustweet-or-twit-gay-marriage.html

Since that time, Miley has been reluctant to confirm those shocking events on-camera, unless cornered to do so.

For example, when Jay Leno quizzed her about the twitter incident, she tried to change her story.

"Oh, I quit because twitter-users tweet about stupid things, like going to the bathroom," she chided in so many words.

Leno appeared to be taken aback.

"I thought it had to do with the fact you supported Gay Marriage?"

Perhaps it slipped Miley's mind?

After all, the excuse about the "Gay Marriage" comment, is the one she offered up to Parade magazine a few weeks ago.

Miley got a little flustered for a sec, then fessed up that Jay's take on it was correct.

Did she wise up to the fact that - once a comment is made on the record about a particular subject - it's probably best to stick to the original story for credibilty's sake?

No!

On Ellen's show yesterday she claimed there was another reason why she quit twitter.

Arghhh!

The perky talk show host (herself gay) probed further.

"I heard it was because you supported Gay Marriage!"

Good one!

Go in for the kill, Ellen.

In the aftermath, Miley scrambled to sort-out the dilemma she found herself in.

"I was asked a question. So, I gave my opinion."

But her naivete really charged to the fore when she quipped:

"They were saying that love was wrong. How could love between two people be wrong?"

Huh?

Ms. Cyrus has obviously not mingled much with folks in the mainstream around the country - or for that matter, given the issue much thought - otherwise she wouldn't open her yap and make such a silly remark.

The argument for gay marriage does not hinge on the question of "Love" per se.

Contrary to what Ms. Cyrus thinks, the people she was complaining about, don't believe that love is ever "wrong".

Christians in the heartland, for instance, tend to take a cue from scriptures that teach that homosexuality - "a man lying down with another man" - is not only sinful but goes against the laws of nature.

There is a better argument to pursue that has a lot more bite in respect to the issue of "gay marriage".

For instance, there isn't any proof that the passages in the Bible Christians refer to in support of their position, are - in fact - the word of God!

Over the centuries the scriptures have been revised - and quite possibly rewritten - to  meet a specific agenda of the day (or the powers-that-be).

Elsewhere in the scriptures, another passage underscores that when God calls on an individual, it is not necessary for that person to change.

The Lord accepts the individual as they are.

Miley's on the right track in many respects, but needs to step out of her protected shell - get real - and spout off accordingly.

To quote myself:

"If your actions are pure of heart, there is no harm."

Amen!

Miley Cyrus...star's credibility problems & The Last Song! Stolen chickens...

Miley Cyrus has been making the rounds of talk shows this past week - to tout her new release (The Last Song) - which is being released today (March 31st) in tandem with her feature film release.

After catching a couple of the chats she engaged in with high-profile talk-show hosts over the past week - on the tonight show and the today show respectively - it appears that Ms. Cyrus has a nasty habit of fibbing (embellishing the facts to romanticize her life a tad) or in the conveninet alternative just has a foggy memory!

Maybe, she's just living in a fantasy world, starring a delusional Miley Cyrus?

For example, after a chat with a teen-bopper rag, other media hounds were inclined to spread the juicy scuttlebutt she generated about the casting of current boy-toy Liam Hemsworth  in the lead role opposite Miley.

With a lot of fanfare, she boasted that she gave the nod,  because "he showed he was a gentleman when he opened the door for her one day."

The juicy tidibt triggered a surge in good manners 'round Tinsel Town with a posse of actors keen on currying favor with someone with clout to land 'em a part (even if it meant flirting with a spoiled self-centered star with some kooky notions about life
).

And, the presses spilled ink all over kingdom cum - and the internet, too - about the infectious  puppy love blossoming in their midst.

Then, last night, Miley twisted and distorted the facts a bit.

For example, when Jimmy Kimmel attempted to confirm how Liam came to land the romantic lead in the film, she suddenly blurted out that it was her mother who was actually responsible for the casting.

"She had headshots of three actors on the kitchen table.  But, she kept staring at Liam's photograph for hours."

Looks like Mom had the hots for Liam, first.

In fact, Miley confessed she wasn't that keen on him, initially.

Hope they're sharing the spoils of their studly find, at least!!

So much for the fairy tale meeting, and her little white lies, spread out over a week rife with promotional burps.

Needless to say, her credibility was "blown" in this corner of the Universe.

At that juncture in Kimmel's  interview, I found it difficult to take her at her word, when she ran rampant at the frothy mouth about this 'n that throughout the rest of the gab fest.

Did she really steal a few chickens from an unsuspecting farmer in California?

And, if we're to put any stock in what amounts to a tall tale - in my estimation - she would have us believe that her and Dad (Billy Ray Cyrus)  smuggled the chicks into the passenger area of the airplane by simply stretching the truth.

"These are special chickens," they assured the other passengers, who wondered aloud why they weren't below in "cargo" where all of God's other lowly creatures were stowed (cats, dogs).

As to the ratty Willie Nelson Doll she hauled around everywhere when she was a tot?

A fan took some publicity photos for posterity's sake and now they have been rustled up to haunt the young starlett (who must feel like a total fool right about now).
And, how was your day?

Miley needs shower after stink she's caused with media!

Miley Cyrus...in love! "The Last Song " release slated for March 31st...

While my guitar gently weeps!

Miley Cyrus (a trifle subdued)  appeared on the Today Show at the crack of dawn to tout a tune - "The Last Song" - to be released on March 31st in tandem with the release of her new feature film.

In fact, on a couple of occasions when the camera panned to the pretty songbird to promote the upcoming segment, she appeared to be a bit pensive.

Is it possible that the "hot" Disney property was unaware that she was on air?

When the interview got underway, she brightened a tad, but appeared to be holding back.

Perhaps, Ms. Cyrus is not an early riser.

Or, just maybe, a hot new bedmate keeps here awake nights?

Yes, Miley fessed up.

Her new beau - who she met during the throes of auditioning actors (who said the casting couch was dead in Hollywood?) - has captured her heart.

As I reported in a post last week - on the heels of Miley's appearance on Jay Leno's tonight show - the perky actress gushed about her decision to request that handsome Liam Hemsworth play opposite her in the romantic drama.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/03/jay-lenosly-devil-miley-cyrus-ambushed.html

How did that situation come about?

"He opened the door for me. I thought that was excellent."

Now, a full-blown (!) spring romance is surfacing between-the-sheets.

However, Dad (Billy Ray Cyrus) didn't make the cut.

Greg Kinnear was scooped to play her make-believe father on screen, instead.

Maybe she didn't want the country-rock star spying on her (or getting in the way) now that there is a bit of hanky-panking doing down in her charmed life?

News at 11!

Meanwhile, screenwriter Nicholas Sparks tagged along to disuss his script.

How did the collaboration come to fruition?

"We got together casually at the dinner table. I think it worked out because it wasn't a heavy business thing," Miley explained with a bit of blush cresting on her pretty face.

Nicholas, a beaming pleasant-looking man, chirped that he was so happy to be able to wake up each day and do what he does best.

"The Lord gives us gifts. We need to use and maximum them."

And, he's doing just that.

In a slightly a**-backs approach,  Sparks proceeded to pen a novel after the screenplay was in development at Disney.

I expect there will be prequels, sequels, you name it!

Yes, there may be a lucrative franchise on the horizon - spinning Miley in untold directions - now that Hanna Montana has been axed.

Miley pointed out that the role was a toughie.

"It was a challenge to make her likeable since there are angry confrontations with her parents," she noted in so many words.

Once you catch the flick, Cyrus asserted that filmgoers may be inclined to run out and call individuals in their life that they've pushed away.

"That's how powerful the story is."

Tapping into the voice of a teenage-girl required a lot of concentrated effort she wailed.

I don't know why!

Miley's just a scant piece of bubblegum away from being a tweenie herself.

The teen-bopper crowd hasn't written her off  - as totally over-the-hill - just yet.

Especially when you consider that Miley just beat out Sandra Bullock at the Kid's Choice Awards in the category for best Actress.

She managed to avoid getting slimed, too.

The universe is no doubt unfolding as it should.

Method acting?

Jay Leno..sly devil! Miley Cyrus ambushed on Tonight Show...

Miley displays lack of class on occasion!

That Jay Leno is such a sly character!

Once again, I sat back in my cozy Hotel suite in San Francisco, and marvelled at his clever maneuverings.

For the longest time, I surmised that when a guest plunked down on the couch on the Tonight Show, that he just winged it!

No way, Jose!

It struck me this evening, that the King of the late night talk circuit carefully plots his course, and usually ends up at the finish line light years ahead of his unsuspecting guests!

Duh, what just happened?

The dazed look on their faces, says it all.

They've obviously been left in a lurch.

Since late-night chats are filmed live - a guest has to be quick-on-their feet (even nimble of mind) - if they don't want to end up with egg on their face (after blurting out something silly that's bound to haunt their image for years to come).

It doesn't help matters much, unless the guest is a total egomaniac or in love with themself, that in the glare of that spotlight the moment is so intense that it ends up being downright surreal.

Years ago, I just about fell through the studio stage floor during a live interview, when I was posed a question out-of-the-blue that took me totally by surprise.

For example - one day I was invited on the "Vancouver Show" (CKVU) - to discuss my successful career as a male model.

The host was insightful and well-informed - and for the most part - the interview moved along without any hitches.

Then, the interviewer leaned in close without warning, and uttered up a comment that sent  me for a loop.

"Now for the big question," he chuckled with a penetrating gaze into my eyes.

At first, I thought that he was going to ask how much money male models make, if the fashion industry was a lucrative area for men, that sort of thing.

I was clueless!

Then, another sinister thought streaked through my grey matter at lightning speed.

Oh, he's probably going to ask if there is a casting couch, or something scandalous like that (I thought to myself).

Got to think about generating controversy and ratings, folks!

So, when he popped the question he did, I was so taken aback that I panicked at first.

"Are most male models gay," he asked me somewhat pointedly.

I was flabberghasted.

For starters, you have to consider the fact that this interview took place in the eighties.

In those days, questions of a highly sensitive personal nature were normally off-limits.

Interviewers stopped short of going "there".

Today, it is quite a different story, however.

Of course, many will recall that infamous moment on ABC - when Barbara Walters popped the question to Pop Singer Ricky Martin - on one of her ratings-getting TV specials.

"Ricky, are you gay?"

His awkward silence - and refusal to utter up a response - said it all!

Frankly, I never even saw the question coming when Cox posed  it to me, so irrelevant was it to me in my frame of mind during that heady (open-minded) era.

I quickly collected my thoughts and proceeded to point out to the host (Wayne Cox, I believe) that the roles of women and men were rapidly changing in society.

"Women go to work. Men stay at home with the kids."

In essence, I was hinting - that just because a guy pursues a career as a male model - doesn't  mean that he is necessarily "gay".

The response appeared to satisfy his curiosity because he moved on

My friends thought I handled the potentially devastating question with great aplomb.

But later, after I mulled the incident over a bit, I wanted to kick myself.

I should have said something funny!

"I don't know. I haven't slept with them all," might have been one reponse apt to trigger a roar of laughter from the studio audience.

Who knows!

A bit of levity goes a long way, after all.

For example, when it was learned that Marilyn Monroe posed for nude photos, it was expected that a scandal was going to break out and ruin her career.

But, Marilyn's quick wit saved the day.

"What did you have on when you were being photographed," one pushy reporter quizzed her pointedly as he swooped in for the kill.

"The radio," she giggled without batting a pretty eyelash.

The paparazzi went wild!

Of course, the photos in question were the publicity stills of Marilyn Monroe in-the-buff that were eventually used for the legendary calendar that is a coveted collector's item 'til this day.

When Miley Cyrus dashed out from behind the curtain this evening, it struck me that the young songbird expected to steer the conversation down the path of her choosing.

But, within seconds of alighting in the glare of the spotlight, Jay was probing for material to satisfy his own agenda.

"So, you were on Idol last night," he started off slowly (almost under his breath).

For some inexplicable reason, Miley was inclined to downplay the high-profile appearance on the Fox Network, and gave the impression she wanted to move on.

But, Jay was on the scent of something, so he persisted (much to her surprise).

"I hear you got a standing ovation."

For a fleeting moment, it appeared that Miley was reluctant to go there.

Then, she caved in.

"Yes."

"Was that your first standing ovation?" the affable host quizzed further.

She nodded and whispered something that was inaudible at my end of the old boob tube.

At this juncture, Jay proceeded to broadcast a clip from American Idol.

Was the Pop Star warned in advance?

Judging from her reaction, probably not.

Other information Jay tried to pry out of her was a little slow in bubbling up.

And, on occasion, the responses were downright pat.

She did light up - and relax a little - when the conversation turned to her new boyfriend who stars opposite Miley in her upcoming feature film release.

"We have this scene where we frolic in the water. So I frolic very well apparently, and after that I got to keep him."

Keep him?

Then she got a little goofy.

Miley confieed in Jay that she checked out his parents to see how well they will age in the future.

"He looked good and he's got a full head of hair," she said about her beau's dad.

At this point, the popular chanteuse surmised that the only reason she had any guy friends was because her mother was so hot.

Huh?

Miley's got some kooky ideas floating around inside that pretty little head!

And, all you struggling actors, listen up.

If you want to land a part in Hollywood, be sure to open the door for the leading lady.

If you're to believe Miley, the fact that her studly new date was thoughtful in that regard, landed him the high-profile role sure to launch his career into the stratosphere when the film hits the silver screen.

"I was like, wow, that is super impressive."

I actually turned to the director and said:

'He's got the job.' He's hot and he opened the door. Excellent."

Does Miley have that much clout in Tinsel Town?

Imagine what kind of booby prize he gets if he ventures farther!

A Ferrari perhaps?

What did I take away from the interview?

Ms. Cyrus is a high-strung strong-willed gal who doesn't like people leading her around by the pretty nose.

Yes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

By the way, that squawky speaking voice of hers, drives me up the wall.

It's worse than the sound of nails on a chalkboard?

Ouch!

Part of her "Valley girl" charm, I guess.

Jay, thanks for fathoming up a facet of Miley's personality, which I surmise is  just the tip of the iceberg.

Is Miley a control freak?

You bet!

It may be her undoing!

Miley says it was the "door" that opened her heart!
(I say it was all about "abs")

American Idol...Miley Cyrus triumphs! Simon hissed! Dark moody vibes reared ugly head!

Miley Cyrus inspired a standing ovation, disgruntled members of the audience hissed a bit**y Brit, and Ryan Seacrest got down to the nitty-gritty to the chagrin of many.

Uh-huh!

"American Idol" kicked off a new season filled with promise, until things started to go bump in the night, and sent nervous contestants (and Judges) down a topsy-turvy path that left a few biting their nails and pondering their futures.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/03/american-idolmiley-cyrus-steals-show.html

In contrast, American Idol appeared to be struggling to pull itself up by the bootstraps last night, in the aftermath of the fiasco that went down Tuesday evening.

In a heart-to-heart with the contestants, stacked side-by-side like ducks in a row on hard benches, Ryan Seacrest attempted to make sense of the scoreboard (with a little input from the performers) to determine the status of each hapless competitor.

Talk about tough love!

At one point, when Seacrest repeated  a criticism uttered up by a snide Simon the night before, a handful of guests in the audience hissed enthusiastically.

Ouch!

Was it just me - or did the Judges appear to be on the "hot seat" - last night?

On occasion, Ellen - for instance - appeared to be put out by the line of questioning.

"Well, I wasn't happy with the song he chose," she retorted in response to a query about Casey's turn at the mic on Tuesday night.

"But, I liked his voice," she snipped a bit indignantly.

At one point, when Cowell was asked if he wanted to change an assessment he made, he paused for a second red-faced before reacting.

"No, I don't," he finally coughed up in so many words as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

In view of the pall that was hanging over the room, it was crystal clear to me, that there must have been some grumbling from above by the powers-that-be on high in the executive suite over controversies that reared their ugly during the American Idol premiere show.

Obviously, the boom had been lowered.

In contrast, when charismatic Miley Cyrus alighted on the stage to perform her new single - "The Last Song" - the mood was all hearts and flowers.

In fact, when the pretty songbird wrapped up her performance on a powerful high note, the electric moment garnered her a standing ovation.

Cyrus was taken aback.

"I've never had a standing ovation before," she gushed.

I wasn't surprised.

The song was perfectly suited to her voice and perfomed to perfection with heartfelt emotion.

American Idol contestants would be wise to follow her example!

Nuff said!

Ryan handled details well last night!

Miley Cyrus...tweet or twit? Gay Marriage quip ends love affair with Twitter...

Some of my best friends are!

Miley Cyrus thought her heart was in the right place when she tweeted her sentiments on the controversial issue of Gay Marriage last year during the Proposition 8 protests.

With lightning speed, the cutesy Pop Icon was inundated with a smattering of nasty hate mail - slamming her for not only supporting "the love that dare not speak its name" (Oscar Wilde) - but for also having the audacity to spout off about Christ, too.

"Jesus loves you And your partner and wants you to know how much he cares! That's like a daddy not loving his lil boy cuz he's gay and that is Wrong and very sad! Like I said everyone deserves to be happy."

Gosh, out of the mouths of Babe, eh?

The reaction from the angry multitudes in twitter-land was swift and severe!

Within seconds, her site was flooded with acid-tongued barbs, which denounced her views.

"That's the reason I deleted my Twitter account because I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other, and I got such hate mail about my being a bad person," she confessed in a high-profile interview with Parade magazine recently.

Good on you, Miley!

I whole-heartedly give a thumbs up to her concluding comments, too.

"There has been so much controversy sometimes about what I've said or done because I believe there are no mistakes because God is the only one who can judge us."

Amen!

You go, girl!

It's not easy being Orange!

The Oscars...red carpet scuttlebutt! Lopez, Keanu Reeves, Zak Efron & Miley Cyrus fashionistas with style...

George Clooney dashed behind the bleachers, glad-handing fans and signing autographs, Carrie Mulligan wafted up with a cute "do' she called a mistake in a gown that was dappled with scissors and forks, and Samuel L. Jackson sported an artsy-fartsy beret director-style.

Ah, the glamour and glitz of the Oscar red carpet!

So much to kibbitz about.

Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) stode up dateless (unless the woman at her side was a lesbo pal) underscoring the price of fame.

Talented Bigelow acted oblivious to the raging "Hurt Locker" controversy on the red carpet all around her and kept repeating ad nauseam to everyone within earshot:

"Our support goes out to the servicemen. Get home safe," she rambled like a broken record throughout the starry-night.

Little did she know in that casual moment that she would end up turning a page in Academy Award history to become the first woman to win the coveted Oscar in the prestigious best director category.

A reporter at ABC - George Pennacchio - was quite effervescent on the red carpet and tried his darndest to get beyond the tinsel by asking pointed relevant questions beyond the scope of the normal superficial fluff.

It was hard-going, though.

When he Asked Clooney how he felt about the excited hub-bub that when down after "Up in the Air" screened, the charismatic actor (in a very "off" moment last night) shrugged.

"Good that they chatted about the film, instead of just saying to each other "shall we go for Chinese?"

George's date was a plain Jane, hooker-type, hired as an escort for the night?

The fact she didn't speak English was a plus for the hot shot-star; after all, she wouldn't spoil the festive occasion by opening up her yap and possibly embarrassing Rosemary Clooney's nephew.

Hope she was more exciting in bed, George.

Gabourey Sidibe gushed that she felt like she was at the prom.

Her midnight blue dress, with bold sparkly patterns, was all wrong though.

If the supporting-actress nominee showed up at a graduation celebration in that fashion disaster, the nasty schoolboys might have dumped a bucket of blood all over her, Carrie-style!

Dear, avoid patterns, 'cause they only draw attention (and give the illusion of bulk) to your figure (what there is of it).

Sarah Jessica Parker & Mathew Broderick were a cute couple to gaze upon (the same height 'n all); in fact, the lovebirds would have made pretty book-ends in the right setting.

Broderick's cut - with strands of gray more noticeable now than ever - suited him.

Sarah's designer dress was quite distinctive, and buoyed up with a lush swatch of color at the bodice, which was stylish.

A strap at the extreme neckline should have been tossed to the wind instead of left to strangle her in front of the madding crowd otherwise tripping-the-light fantastic.

Jessica - the sly Diva - was mum on details in respect to the upcoming sequel to Sex in the City.

"I am sworn to secrecy, but, I can say it will be quite big.

Oh, I guess that the aging Lothario her character has pinned her hopes on, finally comes through with a boner to beat the band.

Or, may just pop the question.

Inquiring minds want to know, Jess!

When Matt Damon's wife was cornered by the aforementioned TV host, the cutesy little bird brain admitted she was swept up in the swirl of excitement.

When the polite reporter asked here in so many words if Matt deserved the award, she retorted in a snotty tone of voice:

"Of course, that's why he was nominated."

Then, she trotted off leaving George in an obvious lurch.

Struggling to regain his composure, the newsie quipped to camera dead-pan.

"I guess she was just shy."

Meryl Streep breezed along the red carpet in an elegant white gown with so many - dips, folds, and drapes - that it was apparent she was being held hostage by the mediocre designer's ill-conceived creation.

Meryl's hair was delightful, though, and suited her "look" (though a bit matronly for her age).

One fashion stylist that was on hand to deliver up critiques on the outfits - that drifted by amid a swirl of satin, chiffon, silk, you name it - echoed my own sentiments.

Stars that pose with hands on hips (and prone to arch their backs in an exaggerated fashion) end up looking positively silly in front of the paparazzi.

Instead of the stilted forced body maneuvers they tend to twist into, the gussied up sexpots would be better off just casually standing or effecting a quick full turn (so the photogs could get a good gander at the ensemble in a natural down-to-earth way).

The cutie-pie stances are for fifteen-year-old beauty Queens (Sarah Palin?) who don't know any better!

Jeff Bridges was all man in a Gucci outfit that added a dash of class to his image.

And, what was with the curious fuzz, gracing Keanu Reeves normally-handsome face?

Maybe he was getting ready to take a stab at a new role, or trying to butch up his act, I don't know.

Jennifer Lopez was pretty in pink in a stunning gown which wasn't over-the-top for once.

A bustle-style flourish at the rear end, disguised her normally-robust butt, to her advantage.

Whew!

Queen Latifa, on the other hand, was wrapped in so much fabric, that I couldn't tell where the folds of the gown ended and the rolls of fat began.

Too tight, too, baby!

Miley Cyrus - one of the youngest stars to appear on the red carpet - was pretty, understated and elegant.

But, the klunky earrings were a bit much for her slender neck.

Zak Efron was a dashing fellow in his dark suit, with wind-blown hair, that gave a poetic air to his image.

Cameron Diaz was tastefully gussied up, but the exposed hoop ring at one ear lobe, looked lonely amidst the glitz and glamour of the dazzling night.

Meanwhile, as the festive night got underway, collossal traffic jams caused headaches in the surrounding neighborhood.

City officials noted that streets may be blocked off until Tuesday morning.

As the red carpet started traffic started to wane, Quentin Tarantino sauntered in with open-collared dress shirt - and tie undone - underscoring that it was perhaps a harried task to land on the carpet before showtime.

Indeed, at one point, his voice literally cracked when he spouted off (which was often).

Oh, the trials and tribulations of being an Oscar nominee.

Meanwhile, the fenced off area beyond the high-security red carpet causeway, was awash with frenzied fans screaming their approval every time a superstar exited a limo purring at the packed curb.

If view of the circus atmosphere, no wonder seasoned pros like Shirley McClain, elected to watch the action-packed high-profile event from a wide screen at the chi chi Vanity Fair party with a handful of her best show-biz buddies.

Others trotted over to the Elton John annual charity fundraiser.

His toothy grin was a welcome break from all the stretched limos (and faces) that I was forced to take a gander at in order to prepare this red carpet report.

'Til next year!

Oscars...Sean Penn, Kate Winslet, Taylor Lautner, Zak Efron & Quentin Tarantino nabbed to present!

Oscar celebrations belong to young stars this year!

In a titillating move to rustle up a lot of frenzied exictement for the Oscar ceremonies next week, producers have begun to tease film buffs with news-breaking alerts about a bevy of high-profile stars to present the coveted prizes on March 7th!

The focus appears to be on youth, glamour, and popularity!

For starters, it was announced that muscle-bound  stud - Taylor Lautner - has been slated to appear with Vampire actress - Kristen Stewart-  on his arm.

Yup!

Kristen was invited to the big top, a dazzling dream that eluded her last year.

Kate Winslet, a perennial favorite among Titanic fans, is expected to stroll down the red carpet just prior to her presenter duties early on in the proceedings, too.

Fans of heart-throb - Zak Efron - will be thrilled to hear that the handsome triple-threat talent will be appearing at the Kodak Theatre once again.

Unfortunately, no word from the Academy as to whether the popular stage performer will warble a tune or entertain with a snazzy two-step or three.

Quentin Tarantino (nominated for best director for Inglorious Basterds) will present the award for the Best Foreign Language Film.

Miley Cyrus will undoubtedly dream up an eye-catching gown - if only to cause a few tongues to wag and gossip-mongers like Perez Hilton to scream bloody murder!

I can't wait for the much-anticipated unveiling, can you?

Sean Penn, now a seasoned pro and respected actor in the biz, will also be on hand to present an award, too, shortly after the prestigious annual event strikes up the band and gets underway for the 82nd  year.

See 'ya there!

People's Choice Awards...Ashton Kutcher web celeb! Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga & Twilight nab top nods...

Demi's boy-toy darling of the web set!

The Lady tramples the competition!

Johnny Depp was astonishingly hailed best Actor of the Decade, ubiquitous Lady Gaga music breakout artist (Pop Artist, too) and Twilight - natch - was given a high-five for best-loved movie by the films biggest die-hard fans otherwise known as "the people".

Ashton Kutcher - that clever cad - nabbed Web Celebrity honors!

After that stint on twitter with Ted Turner & CNN, no wonder, dudes!

The kid's got balls.

Um, do 'ya figure, that's why Demi jumps between the silk sheets with the studly actor?
