Comic-Con...Steven Spielberg to attend! Captain America screenings! Cowboys & Aliens premieres!

Fans of Comic-Con are chomping at-the-bit to descend on the much-ballyhooed Comic-Con Convention in San Diego a scant few days away to run July 21st - July 24th.

Preview Night is July 20th!

In addition to a posse of jubilant "visionaries" (especially in the creative realms), costumed guests, marketers, and industry insiders will be on hand to indulge in a slew of  state-of-the-art video games, graphic novels, cult classics, and comic books.

As the festive crowd mingles on the convention floor, there will be many tantalizing gizmos to snap up, too, the cherished annual event.

Steven Spielberg's handlers have confirmed that he'll make his first appearance to the delight of film buffs.

At press time, it was also revealed that the producers of "Spiderman" are slated to preview a clip of their upcoming big-budget feature.

"Cowboys & Aliens" is expected to wow theatre-goers when it is screened at a splashy star-studded world premiere!

The high-profile shenanigans at Comic-Con are, in fact, expected to attract celebs and techies of note from around the globe.

Guest speakers include Bob Wayne (DC Entertainment Senior VP), Anne Thompson (film columnist contributor to Variety), Mike Richardson (President & Founder of Dark Horse Comics), Heidi MacDonald (The Beat),

A gaggle of paparazzi will be swarming to capture every scintillating moment on film and video for posterity's sake.

Anthony Weiner...Dave Letterman "queer" for scandal-ridden politician? Shaved pecs a turn-on!

Though political pundits (and critics from across the aisle in Congress) have been poking fun at scandal-ridden Anthony Weiner's crotch shots surfacing on social hubs around the Internet, Dave Letterman has been inclined to flatter the beleaguered man-of-the-hour who got caught with his pants down.

"I've seen the naked photos," quipped toothy Dave to his rapt audience the other evening.

"Weiner has nothing to be ashamed about," the popular talk-show host beamed with admiration, as the packed house roared back in response.

Obviously, the comic has been scrutinizing the stills up-close-and-personal for some inexplicable reason.

I expect - that like any hot-blooded male - Letterman was just checking the "dude's" tool out (like guys tend to do at the urinal in the mens room) to get a sense of how he blessed he is compared to the rest of the male species.

After all, every dude hankers to know where he - um - measures up when it comes to his "junk".

But, when Letterman persisted with the dialogue last night, it begged a question.

Is Dave queer for Weiner's man tool?

Shaved pumped pecs a turn-on to some Constituents!

WONDERCON...Ryan Reynolds (Green Hornet) to appear at 25th Annual Convention! Friday in San Francisco!



 

The fans of handsome actor Ryan Reynold are ecstatic over the fact that the "Green Hornet" will be mingling with fans and film buffs alike at the 25th annual WONDERCON convention launching this weekend at the Moscone Center South in downtown San Francisco.

Other superheroes must be green with envy - in view of all the building media frenzy over the high-profile extravaganza - surrounding the crime fighter's slated appearance to sell-out crowds!

There will be a World Premiere screening of the Green Hornet, too!

Director - Jon Favreau (Cowboys & Aliens) - is expected to trot out onto the convention floor, too, to say boo to writing enthusiasts.

The giant exhibit hall will house hundreds of vendors flogging their wares alongside some of the comic industry's biggest publishers - such as DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, Aspen, IDW, BOOM!, and SLG - to name-a-few.

A hop-and-a-skip away, vendors will be selling items from the wonderful imaginative world of comics, movies, TV, animation, and so much more!

You'll also find artists selling one-of-a-kind original art as they render a few sketches before your very eyes!

WONDERCON features one of the best Artists' Alleys in the country, in fact.

There will be a cozy Press area and autograph lobby (filled with a bevy of your favorite celebrities to meet and greet).

WONDERCON offers the complete convention experience, which includes games, anime, panels, seminars, and workshops!

In addition to the product offerings, there will be scintillating thought-provoking discussion panels, workshops, seminars, and what-have-you (as the Big Lebowski would say!).

Pee Wee Herman...Broadway show opens in N.Y.

Paul Rubens is expected to make a big splash on Broadway next week when a stage production featuring a character he created hits the boards at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

The Pee Wee Herman Show was based on Paul Ruben's alter-ego and was an award-winning children's series that ran on CBS from 1986 -1991.

Rubins also met with theatrical success with the feature film release of " Pee Wee's Big Adventure "and the sequel "Big Top Pee Wee" .

The Pee Wee Herman show is based on the popular Television show "Pee Wee’s Playhouse" of yesteryear.

Understandably, a cast of familiar characters will take the stage, in the  new incaration on the stage in Tin Pan Alley.

Audiences will be cracking up over the wild shenanigans of - Mailman Mike, Cowboy Curtis, Ms. Yvonne, and Jambi - for starters.

The comic actually “tested” the  material - slated for its Broadway run - in what amounted to out-of-town previews.

Before Rubins  landed the backing for the New York stage show, he performed a version of his new project in Hollywood to sold out audiences.

In fact, if I recall correctly, the production was extended to accommodate the demand for tickets.

When Pee Wee appeared on Jimmy Fallon the other night, it was obvious the zany comic's timing is as impecable as ever.

Mr. Rubens is witty, insightful, and a unique talent in the final analysis.

The Avengers...Samuel L. Jackson unveils stellar cast! Jeremy Renner! Robert Downey! Scarlett Johannson!

Actor Samuel L. Jackson unleashed exciting (unexpected) show-biz news at a Marvel Studios presentation at Comic-Con in San Diego over the week-end.

In the midst of six-thousand frenzied fans, the high-profile action-star was inclined to unveil the names of cast members slated to appear in the much-anticipated upcoming big-budget studio production of "The Avengers".

With a nod from Jackson, stars Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johannson, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Chris Evans (Captain America) trotted out to meet 'n greet the fans.

Robert Downey Jr. - a surprise guest - introduced  popular box-office favorites Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) and Mark Ruffalo.

The Avengers was an off-beat British television series (1960's) which originally starred Patrick Macnee, Diana Rigg, Ian Hendry, Honor Blackman, and Linda Thorson.

161 episodes of the fifty-minute spy spoof were produced in the U.K.

The first fifty-minute episode aired on ITV/ABC/Thames on January 7th (1961).

The witty bill-of-fare was essentially a spy oddity set in cold war Britain.

Macnee's character - John Steed - was the epitome of style in black bowler hat and Pierre Cardin suits.

Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) played  his foil in an unforgettable portral that still resonates today in old re-runs on cable TV.

Lily Tomlin...gig @ Hollywood Theatre in Las Vegas! 'Til March 17th!

Lily Tomlin is currently appearing at the Hollywood Theatre in Las Vegas through March 17th.

The show is titled - "Not Playing with a full deck" - and will no doubt pack 'em in 'til closing night

Even with a hefty price tag of $58.00 a ticket!

In recent days, Ms. Tomlin has been quite active on the theatrical scene with one project after another hitting the boards to the delight of die-hard fans.

The critics have been raving about the talented performer (a National Treasure?) as well.

Last year, I met Ms. Tomlin in person at the Backlot Film Festival  in Culver City, when she appeared with Carl Reiner for a Q & A session focusing on a couple of films that were screening at the popular annual fest (All of Me).

Ms. Tomlin, a trooper, is a charmer with a broad smile!

Over the years, Ms. Tomlin has created a handful of engaging characters - which  include lounge lizard "Tommy Velour" - who was introduced in the TV special "Sold Out".

And, of course, who could forget Ernestine the telephone operator?

I first crossed paths with Ms. Tomlin  about two decades ago, when she was a client at a Hollywood answering service which friends of mine owned in West Hollywood.

Queen of Comedy

If you haven't seen Sandra Bernhard in "Kind of Comedy" - playing opposite funnyman Jerry Lewis - go out and rent it right away!

Ms. Bernhard turns in one of the most hilarious performances in years in her portrayal of a skitzoid New York street crazy infatuated with a popular Talk Show host on a major network.

Of course, her unique brand of humor is always ever-present on stage in live shows as she struts and pouts and seduces her audience into frenzied manic ecstasy.
