Susan Boyd...to warble for the Pope @ Mass! Angelic choir back-up...

Pope gives Susan Boyd thumbs up!

The Vatican has not only sung the praises of celebrated vocalist - Susan Boyd - but humbled her greatly with an invite to participate in a mass in September backed by a choir 800 strong.

Boyle gushed to the media this past week that singing for Pope Benedict XVI was definitely "her greatest dream come true."

Boyd, who rose to prominence (and lofty musical realms) after a brief stint on an English talent show, is slated for three performances at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow..

The much-anticipated concert date is going forward (amidst flights of Angels, no doubt) on Thursday September 16th.

The open air Mass which will be attended by the Pope during a brief visit to Scotland.

The Mass is scheduled to commence at precisely 5.15 p.m. that afteroon.

In the pre-Mass programme Ms. Boyle will sing the inspirational hymn "How great thou art" - in addition to her well-known signature song "I dreamed a dream".

At the end of the Mass, the popular vocalist - who now boasts thousands of fans around the globe - will perform what amounts to a farewell song to Pope Benedict as he exits the park to travel on to Glasgow Airport where he'll board a jet to continue a four-day touch-down on British soil.

"To be able to sing for the Pope is a great honour and something I've always dreamed of - it's indescribable. I think the 16th of September will stand out in my memory as something I've always wanted to do, I've always wanted to sing for his Holiness and I can't really put into words my happiness, that this wish has come true at last."

Lambert will not only mentor  next week's hopefuls on American Idol - but will also perform his latest hit on the stage - at Fox!

"Whataya Want From Me" will blast across the old boob tube on April 14th.

In closing, Adam chirped that he was excited at the prospect of returning to his old stomping grounds.

"Even though I'm just at the start of my recording career, I hope to lend some insight as one who's been thru the Idol adventure."

American Idol...disc jockeys titter over an Ellen DeGeneres poke from Patti LaBelle! Ratings soar...

Bit** fight titillates Fox viewers!

This morning disc jockeys were all over the Ellen DeGeneres controversy like flies on sh** on the heels of this remark bypop icon  Patti LaBelle:

 "Someone shouldn't be on American Idol."

"Wonder who that could be?" they chortled in jest on one popular morning show.

"Well, three of the judges have been on Idol for years and nothing was said before. So, you figure it out," quipped one perky female jock.

All music pointers appeared to be jabbing at the podium in the direction of Ellen.

"The problem is she's a type "A" personality," one seasoned broadaster wailed.

"Simon too," a  gossip reporter retorted in an astute uptake.

Double-trouble, alright.

"She used to sit next to Simon - but when she complained that he was fondling her leg - they moved her," he snidely uttered in an aside.

Yeah, some men find the idea of bedding a lesbian a kinky erotic sexual turn-on, for sure.

"So, now you've got these two bookends on either side anchoring down the panel," they conceded unhappily.

The scuttlebutt actually bordered on nasty.

"Oh, there's a definite chill in the air on Idol now" they accused.

The general consensus was that Ellen - in the final anaylsis - managed to destroy the chemistry of the show.

Simon and Paula used to be the mom & dad on American Idol. Then, they brought in the uptight (bitchy) new wife, they argued somewhat convincingly.

Sloppy seconds?

They wondered aloud about the politicking, too.

"Simon used to have the last word. Ellen gets it now, did you notice?"

Must be a humilating castrating experience, eh?

In sum, the disc jockeys giggled with a tinge of incredulity in their voices that the high-profile Karaoke-style ratings-getter had become the Ellen DeGeneres American Idol show.

Come on, dudes (and dudette).

Maybe it was just that time of the month last night.

Hmmm!

What would acccount for her dismal performance last week?

A bad run of the unfunnies, I guess.

Elsewhere, backstage staffers at American Idol have been tittering that Ellen and Simon can't stand each other.

"He does things just to annoy her," one whispered in confidence.

Guess everyone loves a good  bit** fight, though.

Ratings on Ellen soared last week and  Wednesday  night American Idol beat out the Olympics to land in the No. 1 spot.

Will producers take advantage of the Ellen-Cowell power-struggle?

Mickey Rourke...Oscar nod for the Wrestler!

The young stud in old glory days...

Undoubtedly, you're familiar with Mickey Rourke's film project, the Wrestler.

In a nutshell, the story goes something like this.

Although once a headlining Wrestler, Randy "the Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) has hit the skids.

The down-on-his-luck athlete manages to rustle up a few bucks here and there, though, performing for a handful of devout fans in high school gyms and community centers out on the East Coast.

Relationships are a tough row to hoe for Randy - one with his daughter for instance - so he throws himself full-throttle into the illusionary glory of fight bouts.

While basking in the short-lived adrenalin rush, he pines for a chance at the brass ring.

A trouble spot in his health (a heart attack) forces him to recognize how precious life is.

Although I was invited to the premiere at Mann's Chinese Theatre sponsored by the AFI last month, I sauntered over to the ultra chi-chi kick-off bash for the Danish Film Festival held amid the old-world-charm of the tony Roosevelt Hotel.

Press pals who attended the Wrestler on my behalf were in accord about one thing.

The fight pic was a downer.

So, it's doubtful I'll be in the "mood" to catch it.

However, this week when I attended a screening of "Milk", a trailer for the drama flashed up on the screen before the feature presentation.

If the acting I witnessed onscreen that night in the clips is matched throughout the Wrestler, then I am inclined to take a gamble and note for the record - in spite of the fact I have not screened the drama in its entirety - that Rourke may get a nod from Oscar!

No surprise!

Every scene Rourke graced the screen in, sprang to life by virtue of a performance that was both moving and deeply honest.

In fact, it's been a couple of years since I've encountered such a natural unaffected acting style that resonated with such truth.

Rourke was a revelation!

Now, let's hope his handlers don't fu** it up for him prior to the big night!
