Wang Chung (& Naked Eyes)...Free Concert at Fremont Street tonight! Las Vegas!

Under the auspices of the weekly Fremont Experience, Wang Chung ("Don't Let Go", "Everyone Have Fun Tonight", "Dance Hall Days") and Naked Eyes ("Always Something There To Remind Me") are slated to appear tonight at a free concert on the strip to kick-off at 9 p.m.

The special event is hosted by "Nina Blackwood's Absolutely 80's" musical festival - which has been quite well-received by the fans of "olden golden goodies" - who have been hankering to yank
their chains and get down-and-dirty to their fave hits from their rebellious youth of yesteryear!

While the musicians are on break, by the way, Fremont Street presents tributes to legends such as Jim Morrison (and the Doors), KISS, Queen, and others.

For an extra thrill-a-minute, hop on the zip-line amusement ride that soars high above the madding crowds below.

The experience will take your breath away.

See 'ya there!

Justin Bieber...soccer lessons with David Beckham! Selena to serenade baby Harper!

The "Bieb" is anxious to rustle up a truckload of fancy kicks for the soccer field - they call it rugby in England - so he sealed a pact with David Beckham to slate a round of private lessons in the near future!

In exchange for the one-on-one hands-on tutoring (!) Justin has promised to perform at a private concert for Becks and his wife Posh.

To sweeten the pot, Selena (Bieber's steady squeeze) has agreed to serenade Beckham's newly-born child, who was christened with an unusual moniker:

Harper Seven Beckham

"Seven represents the spiritual," David beamed to one reporter.

Ya know?

"The seven wonders of the world and that sort-of-thing," the soccer stud elaborated with ease.

I wonder if the agreement includes tips on how to suavely pull off a jersey on the soccer field?

Enquiring minds also want to know if Justin intends to follow in Dave's - um - underpants.

Is there a spread on the horizon for the "Bieb" in Armani tightie-whities?

Just betcha that Justin is a boxer-man.

News at 11!

Ain't America Great (American Rant)...lyrics for pop culture tune by Julian Ayrs!

Today, I was strolling down Las Vegas Boulevard (a daily haunt that is conducive to the creative workings of my artsy-fartsy visionary bent on things) when I started to fathom up a few lyrics for a catchy little tune (sure to explode on the pop charts given half-the-chance).

It goes something like this:

Ain't America great!
Ain't America great!

Gays are tying-the-knot
The medically-disabled are smoking pot
The President is black
Sarah Palin has a great rack!

USA!
USA!
USA!

Ain't America great!
Ain't America great!

Welcome the humble masses
Down with racist asses
Hurrah for Mom & Apple pie
If you believe in
Justice & Freedom for all
Vote Ron Paul!

USA!
USA!
USA!

Ain't America great!
Ain't American great!

(trail off to a dull roar)

A bit gimmicky?

"We do everything to make it a fun time," Isaak winked in a local interview.

Well, expect to get your money's worth at least!

Lady Gaga...launches live! Concert series! Good Morning America Central Park series!

Good Morning America announced this past week amid a lot of fanfare that they are whipping up a summer concert series to be set in the picturesque climbs of Central Park.

The live! stage performances will feature headline acts such as Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, and Debbie Gibson  (to name a few).

Lady Gaga has snagged the top slot.

The Pop Diva (with Monsters in tow) will launch the eclectic pop music concerts on GMA.

Just when Lady Gaga appeared to be simmering on the back burner in pop circles - SHAZZAM - the talented songbird (who writes her own original material) rebounded out-of-the-blue and soared farther into the musical stratosphere.

Last week, for example, Lady Gaga mentored American Idol hopefuls as they trotted down the last lap of the highly-popular entertainment phenonemon on Fox TV.

Mewanwhile, the recent release of her new video - Judas - caused a controversy which erupted into a media storm around the country overnight.

At this juncture, the only medium that Lady Gaga hasn't conquered (yet!) is the realm of film.

Just betcha - a biopic, documentary, or thought-provoking narrative - is in the cards for the Queen of Pop.

My prediction?

Lady Ga may end up a legendary icon like screen siren Mae West.

Come up and see me sometime,  eh Lady?

The first GMA performanc – featuring the Mad Hatteress of Pop – is slated for May 27th!

See ‘ya there!

Olivia Somerlyn...Pop Singer a fresh-faced beauty! San Francisco talent!

16 year old Olivia Somerlyn has been causing a buzz on the Internet with a couple of her singles.

I expect that one day, as Olivia rises to the pinnacle of success in the music industry, she'll  be a much-sought-after Pop Icon influencing up-and-coming talent around the country, too.

You go, girl!

Ms. Somerlyn is attending high school - while residing in the picturesque San Francisco Bay area - balancing music and homework.

One of my contacts at a record company in Eagle Rock turned me on to Olivia's fresh look pictured above!

The catchy tunes she sings from the heart are nothing to sniff at, either!

"I'm inspired by the creative process of songwriting, and I'm passionate about telling stories through music, so I'll always make the time," cooed the young pop beauty.

In addition to composing her own music, the multi-talented teen also plays the guitar and piano with great ease.

Like any burgeoning visionary artist, there have been a handful of cool influences in the creative arena that have influenced her style.

"I'm mostly inspired by personal experiences and small pieces of sounds I come across from many different artists rather than the work of a few specific artists," she confided recently in the glare of the spotlight.

In particular, perky Olivia thrives on the passionate love stories of  Taylor Swift, the musicianship of Nick Jonas, and the individuality of Lady Gaga.

"There are so many amazing young artists that I'm influenced by in all different ways," she gushes, almost as an afterthought.

With that in mind, check out three of her singles:

*I'm Just Fine
*Only in the Movies
*Not your Girl

Josh Groban... lackluster PBS special falls flat! Ballad singer struggles to hold stage!

If you caught Josh Groban's PBS special over the weekend, it should have been obvious that the curly-haired crooner lacked the talent and larger-than-life persona to pull off a gig of such high stature on prestigious PBS backed by a full orchestra.

At times, Groban - for-all-the-world - came across like a lonely minstrel lost in a sea of emptiness he was unable to fill due to a lack of range of skills which are a prerequisite for such a bold undertaking on the live! stage.

Many of the mediocre (ho hum) tunes did not suit his voice - while a handful were downright undistinguished - at best.

Notwithstanding, the popular crooner (who causes middle-aged women get wet in the panties) is unable to carry a live! concert because he has yet to transform into a seasoned pro worthy of the tribute.

Groban is better suited for cameo appearanes on local talk shows and on easy-listening radio stations where a rich masculine voice (such as his) has an appropriate venue to reach out, resonate, and entertain  in the mainstream.

In contrast, a PBS special last night featuring four celebrated opera singers, managed to touch, uplift, and inspire.

Josh, pay attention to the heavyweights.

For good reason!

Now, you'll have to excuse me as I prepare for an onslaught of hate mail from the Grobanites (Josh's loyal dedicated fans).

Hell hath no fury like a Grobanite scorned, after all!

Justin Bieber...35 minute stretched out SMILE a whale of a hit!

Bieber Warhol Pop style!

Nick Pittsinger had a hunch, tooled around with it, and ended rustling up a slow-mix version of a Justin Bieber hit that has been wowing even the most staunch cynics who previously wrote off the “Bieb” as pop fluff.

Granted, the crooner - who hails from Stratford-on-Avon (Canada) - tends to rattle out tunes in frenzied succession like some hopped-up speed freak on the edge.

But, with the “Smile” novelty circulating the Internet, there appears to be a wider appeal than ever before in respect to a fan base.

A thirty-five minute (29 second) stretched-out version (U Smile 800 % slower) comes across as some kind-of haunting chant that stirs the imagination.

It’s doubtful you’ll catch it on any of the commercial pop teen radio stations, but, it’s a trip worth tracking down on the wild-and-woolly net.

Shortly after the “Bieber's” slo-mo sound was posted on SoundCloud, it caught a wave, not unlike one in the eerily oceanic track which some find reminiscent of the plaintive cries of a whale.

Eminem...album sales soar! 2.1 million bucks to date!

Billboad reported on Wednesday that Eminem has reclaimed the top slot for his newly-released offering "Recovery".

Initially, the album jump-started out of the gate when it was first released a few weeks ago.

Then, it slumped behind "Suburbs" to fall into the No. 2 slot.

This past week, when Suburbs dropped 66 percent, Eminem surged forward to hit No. 1 again with no competition coming from the rear.

Sales to date total a whopping 2.1 million - which puts Eminem in the enviable position of breathing down the neck of ever-popular "Lady Antebelum" - which remains top album to date with cash receipts tallying 2.5 million this year.

Eminem fans may purchase the "Recovery" album directly from the Tattler site by clicking on the link provided (to the right above and next to the publicity still of the rap star).

Make me rich in commissions, eh?

John Mayer...on diarhhea of the mouth! Identity springs forth from creation!

Sporting cool fancy pants etched in a red check pattern - and teamed with yellow designer "t" - sexy pop crooner John Mayer struck up a pose as he unveiled a couple of catchy tunes from his new album on a morning Network show.

According to grizzly-faced Mayer, a myriad of life experiences were the inspiration that drove the poetic musical musings along.

During an interview with Matt Lauer (the co-host of the talk show which revs up at the crack-of- dawn) the popular sex symbol appeared to be leaning toward the role of "philosopher".

"I have learned that you shouldn't talk to see if you have something to say," he chuckled .

Was he slyly referring to the tendency to open up his yap in the past - without thinking about the ramifications - which has landed him in hot water consistently in the rocky past?

If you recall, running off at-the-mouth about intimate scorching sexual relations with sweetheart Jessica Simpson (between-the-sheets) caused many to burn their CD's (well, not quite) and label the scandalous "kiss 'n tell" stage performer a cad.

But, there is still a lot respect for Mayer, the artist.

Starting with his distincive gravelly voice.

The excited female fans in the front rows didn't find the dude difficult to take a gander at either!

"Artists feel insigniicant when they're not doing art," he confided to a slightly balding Lauer.

"The creation provides an identity," he summed up.

And, I expect a healthy libido, the swagger in a man.

Enrique Iglesias... Spanglish upbringing reflected in Hot album! Akon & Usher featured!

Eclectic mix includes collaborations with Usher!

Euphoria - the new musical release by Enrique Iglesias - is a departure for the handsome Pop star.

This time out of the recording studio, Iglesias pooh-poohed the notion that it was necesssary to press one version of a musical release for the Spanish market, another for English-speaking fans.

-
Consequently, Enriques's offering is chock-full of collaborations and an eclectic mix of tunes that reach out to a diverse spectrum of musical tastes under the sun.

Enrique is obviously thrilled that two of the songs - "I Like it" and "Cuando me enamoro" - are racing up the charts (hits).

But, one of his favorite compositions is a reggae duet with Akon.

In fact, the charismatic singer teamed up with a handful of artists on "Euphoria".

Each of the collaborations - such as those with Usher, the  duo Wisin and Yandel, and Nicole Sherzinger - shone with their own "grace and magic" gushed Iglesias in a recent upbeat interview.

Enrique was born in Madrid (can he really be 35 now?) and grew up in Miami.

According to the outgoing performer, he was rasied on Spanglish, which amply prepared him to record his latest musical gem without stumbling.

The album was a three-year effort and features tropical ballads, reggae, and pop.

Michael Jackson..."wake" celebrates the life & music of Pop Icon! UCLA unlikely host...

Michael, what happened?

This morning's papers were awash with news about Michael Jackson in the wake of his unexpected death yesterday afternoon at the UCLA Medical facility in Westwood (CA).

Many of the insightful detailed reports echoed each other.

There were eye-witness accounts of mourning fans, thoughts on what amounts to a colossal loss to the creative end of the music industry, reports on weepy candle-light vigils, and up-close and personal interviews with contemporaries who sang the Pop Icon's praises now that he has departed from this mortal coil and passed into spirit.

From where I stood, however, the overwhelming news event smacked more of a celebration of Michael's life & music.

A "wake", if you like.

Indeed, in a mass turn-out in front of the UCLA Medical facility late yesterday afternoon and early into the evening, fans demonstrated their love for a performer who was many things to many different people.

Yes, Jackson was a musical genius, an original given to unexplained excesses, a talented artist prone to self-destruct at any moment, you name it.

Once the news swept out from the inner recesses of the UCLA medical facility that doctors were desperately trying to work their magic to restore life to a frail shell of a human being that was fast expiring - fans descended on the well-manicured courtyard outside the hospital - and began their vigil.

But, what I beheld before me was not a teary-eyed assembly of mourners, grief-stricken beyond comprehension - but rather - a joyous throng of devoted fans who chose to celebrate his life and music the best way they fathomed they could.

The spirited music-lovers mimicked his style (many turned out with gloved hand, signature Fedora-style hat, outfitted in eye-catching outerwear festooned with sequins that glittered like stardust in the mid-afternoon sun), as they sang out the catchy - at times tricky - arrangement of notes and words of a dozen or so of his memorable hits.

Occasionally, emotions took hold - at which point a handful of high-spirited fans - broke into a contagious dance that continued on into dusk.

When the familiar strains of "Thriller" hit the air, the mood shifted gear and the fans went into a wild frenzy.

Young tots, hip teens - even older snazzily-dressed Jackson fans - let loose and danced individually and in pairs (even trios, at times) - inside a "magic circle" like moths drawn to a flame.

At one point, a beaming Afro-American male spied my own lithe bod gyrating to the unique beat of the mega hit from yesteryear and was inclined to give me a nudge.

"Go on, man. Get in there. It's your turn."

Hesitant, but willing nonetheless (dancing is my first love), I stepped into the glare of the spotlight at the heart of the hypnotic beat of the pop hit and danced up a storm.

A roar went up from the crowd.

"That was the beauty of it," I thought to myself.

This "wake" was all inclusive.

At this point, for me anyway, the lines blurred somewhat.

One moment, I was logging the "historical event" from a reporter's point of view for posterity; in the next, I was swept up, across a great divide.

All the walls came tumbling down as I relaxed into the warm and fuzzy moment.

The world shifted.

I was transformed from an unbiased commentator on the sidelines into a bona fide fan capable of appreciating the remarkable compositions of a uniquely gifted musician who had just passed into spirit before his time.

Even still, Michael Jackson's rich legacy of sound - pure in it's creative genius - shall march on.

Such was the potent power of the Prince of Pop's musical gifts.

Adam Lambert...CD released on iTunes ovenight!

Sexy inviting pose, Adam!

Simply titled "Want" (a loaded label, nonetheless) the spanking-new Adam Lambert tune - released on iTunes overnight - is sure to be a splashy hit.

Well, with Idol fans who worship the rainbow clouds he dances on, without doubt!

The little ditty - sure to top the charts overnight (just betcha) - was lifted from an album tentatively titled - "On with the Show" - to be released later in the year @ Hi-Fi recordings.

Since a co-credit goes to Wilshire Records - are fans to assume that the pop gems were pressed in a local studio in the Beverly Hills corridor - or Hollywood proper perchance?

According to Adam Lambert & fans (twitter followers) the music was compiled over the past two to three years at the peak of a productive creative & business partnership with astute mentor Malcolm Welsford who recognized his gift "moons" ago.

In spite of the fact the song stylings aren't fresh out of the gate - with a judicious bit of tweaking and arranging - maybe they'll land a sizzling hot spot on the charts as the lazy days of summer unfold here on the West Coast and buffed bodes drift to surf parties in Malibu in souped up jalopies.

Try for a chart-stopper, Adam, that will reflect the golden hype, hoopla, and hysteria of your dazzling performance on the American Idol show just a scant few weeks ago.

Then, your musical persona will be etched in the hearts and the minds of Americans for years to come, circa 2009 for sure!

Is Lambert incognito Sixties Disco Queen?
