Josh Groban... lackluster PBS special falls flat! Ballad singer struggles to hold stage!

If you caught Josh Groban's PBS special over the weekend, it should have been obvious that the curly-haired crooner lacked the talent and larger-than-life persona to pull off a gig of such high stature on prestigious PBS backed by a full orchestra.

At times, Groban - for-all-the-world - came across like a lonely minstrel lost in a sea of emptiness he was unable to fill due to a lack of range of skills which are a prerequisite for such a bold undertaking on the live! stage.

Many of the mediocre (ho hum) tunes did not suit his voice - while a handful were downright undistinguished - at best.

Notwithstanding, the popular crooner (who causes middle-aged women get wet in the panties) is unable to carry a live! concert because he has yet to transform into a seasoned pro worthy of the tribute.

Groban is better suited for cameo appearanes on local talk shows and on easy-listening radio stations where a rich masculine voice (such as his) has an appropriate venue to reach out, resonate, and entertain  in the mainstream.

In contrast, a PBS special last night featuring four celebrated opera singers, managed to touch, uplift, and inspire.

Josh, pay attention to the heavyweights.

For good reason!

Now, you'll have to excuse me as I prepare for an onslaught of hate mail from the Grobanites (Josh's loyal dedicated fans).

Hell hath no fury like a Grobanite scorned, after all!

Justin Bieber...Pop Star tools around in Lamborghini roadster! P Diddly!

Grinning from ear-to-ear, Pop Sensation - Justin Bieber - was caught toolin' around town in a White Spyder Gallardo with a long-time high-school bud in tow.

Was the pal doubling (no pun intended) as a bodyguard?

If so, the dazzler adorning one ear lobe has gotta' go.

In the mean streets of the Big Bad Orange (Los Angeles) pussies get no respect, if 'ya get my drift.

Curious lookie-loo's were speculating that P Diddly coughed up on his promise to hand over the ignition keys to Justin (the hip-hop artist's John Henry is on the registration).

If so, the Pop Sensation, can say "bye now" to the Jeep which the "Bieb" snatched up shortly after nabbing his Driver's License (California).

The Lamborghini is "way cooler".

Ah, the roar of the power-house engine revving up, stirs up quite an adrenalin rush.
.
And, the sensual scent of expensive leather interior, may just trigger a rise in the levis,

The "Chariot of Chariots" will run 'ya 'bout $200,000 greenbacks and rustle up a full dance card in  about two seconds flat.

Wayne Newton...rare appearance in Vegas! Feb. 28th - March 4th...

When the name Wayne Newton falls upon my ears, an image of the pop crooner springs to mind, from the lazy days of my innocent youth.

If I am not mistaken, the shy entertainer came to International prominence when he first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, and warbled his pop hit "Danke Schoen".

In those heady days, he was a bit-of-a girlish-looking hunk of a boy, who captivated middle America with his wholesome looks and aw-shucks persona.

Over time, Newton's image transformed dramatically, however.

A slicked-back greasy "do", pencil-thin moustache, flashy jewellery, and expensive designer suits, appeared to relegate him into the ranks of a minor underworld mob boss in Sin City.

A sprawling ranch, and a couple of prize horses out to stud, elevated the aging pop star to a lofty status, difficult for his contemporaries to match.

On Saturday, February 28th, Wayne Newton will step into the glare of the spotlight once again, when he rings up the curtain on a 5-day stint at the Hollywood Theatre at MGM in Las Vegas.

A host of celebs will probably be in tow to catch the legendary singer's opening night.

But, just betcha, there will be quite a few blue-haired ladies swooning in the audience, too, flashing back (and having hot flashes) to halcyon glory days when Newton was a pop heart-throb to reckon with.

*Did I fool 'ya?
Photo of Newton at top of page is actually that of an Impersonator!

Josh Groban...blogger tears loony fans to pieces!

I came across a funny post today at the Zionist'sgoldreport's weblog.

Obviously, the blogger stumbled across my own post (which is actually referenced at the bottom of that weblog page) and elected to put in his thoughtful two-cents worth.

Much appreciated!

Avid readers of my blog will recall that I had a run-in with Groban fans when I criticized his vocal stylings a few weeks ago, after the Los Angeles Times also noted that the waif-like minstrel-man was a tad "overrated".

Curiously, Groban's name and image have been poking their way into my consciousness once again in recent days, for some inexplicable reason.

At "Borders" last night - for instance (as I strolled up to the CD bank to listen to a tune or two) - there was a collection by Groban - Noel - on display up front.

Since a die-hard fan urged me to listen to this recording at the height of the Groban controversy - with the hope that the song stylings would change my scathing review - I was inclined to give the lad a chance.

However, when I plugged in the headphones and slipped them on my head, it was pretty obvious from the get-go that the CD installed was not the one warbled by Groban.

Fate, I guess.

Then, I came across the link for the Groban post at the zionist'sgoldreport, bright and early this morning.

If you're in the mood for a real hoot, here's how Groban fans are categorized by the astute blogger:

All Josh Groben comments will no longer be approved.
Opps Groban, Groban.
Hard to imagine how such a nice guy like Groban could have such ruthless and nasty fans.
I do hope he tires of you all and your fawning and pursues a serious muscial career in Opera or as a composer and lets hope he does not have the ‘disease’ and can marry a nice FEMALE opera star or pianist some day.

Sarah Brightman...boo! hiss!

If you're like me, when you hop on the net to play, work - or just plain surf through the blogosphere - you may be inclined to snap on the headphones and pipe in some background music as you tool around.

Today, my body is gently lilting to Dvorak's "New World Symphony" (Going Home).

Why, even Olympic Gold Medalist - Michael Phelps - is infamous for tuning his ear to some heady upbeat tunes to add a bit of splash to the water games.

The other morning I was in a mood for - gosh darn it, I confess - melodramatic song stylings by Sarah Brightman.

But, lo and behold!

When I clicked on the video to spank that monkey?

Nada!

At first, I thought the earplugs weren't resting soundly in the socket.

No Sir, all systems were a go.

Ah, maybe the volume was on mute?

When that panned out, I glanced up at the screen and spied a message from youtube.

And then, the ugly truth befell me.

"No longer available. EMI has claimed rights to this tune."

Boo! Hiss!

I'm mad as he** and I'm not going to take it anymore.

In fact, I'm going to burn all the Sarah Brightman CDs I don't own.

Well, that's the crux of it, eh?

Ms. Brightman is heading out on a leg of a concert tour, so why should her label offer up the music for free?

Even still, I think the scurrilous strategy was a boo-boo.

Videos on youtube are generally a bit fuzzy anyway, for starters.

So, I'm inclined to believe that in view of that - and if given the half-the-chance to get cozy with a performer - music lovers may just go out and buy a brand spanking new CD in the end scenario.

You blew it, Sarah!

By the way, were you Frank Lloyd Wright's beard, or what?
