Proposition 8...protest & rally on May 26th! Sheriff crowd control...

There was a large show of force by the Sheriff's Department at the Proposition 8 protest rally on May 26th!

The well-behaved marchers kept their cool, though, and the rally - which attracted thousands - ended on a positive note without incident.

Proposition 8 protest...Hate crimes! Lest we forget...

The protestors showed up on the heels of the ruling of the California Supreme Court mad as hell and saying they were not going to take it any more!

The mood was optimistic & high-spirited until the march approached a vigil at one corner on the parade route.

The faces of the victims of Hate Crimes were a painful reminder that the grab for equal rights and an end to discrimination and hate against Gays has not been one without great loss, suffering, and grief.

Bill Clinton...wishy-washy & lacks integrity! Former Prez ignores Prop 8 protests slated for San Diego

Another testy moment for slick Willy!

In spite of the fact Bill Clinton has stated for the record that he opposes Proposition 8, the former President has refused to cancel a speaking engagement ($$$) at a San Diego Hotel on Sunday - owned and operated by businessman David Manchester - who contributed $125,000.00 in support of the anti-gay marriage initiative in California.

Opponents to Proposition 8 have been boycotting the Hotel - in a vocal strident action - which has allegedly resulted in a revenue loss of over $2 million to the smug Hotelier.

Although reputable organizations such as the American Association of Law Schools, the California Nurses Association, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefits have honored the boycott in the recent past by foregoing on following through on events booked at the Manchester, the California State Bar - who have invited slick Willy to elucidate his thoughts on the holiday weekend - won't budge.

A Clinton lackey informed Associated Press that while Clinton's views have not changed on the issue, he intends to honor his commitment to speak.

Of course, this is from the man who has always been wishy-washy to begin with.

Slick Willy was the ingenuous dude who admitted to smoking marijuana - but, not before asserting first - that he did not "inhale".

The former PREZ with the active libido also conjured up a curious slogan for the military when the issue of Homosexuality reared its ugly - um - head.

"Don't ask. Don't tell."

I guess the Lewinski affair inspired that one - at least from Hillary's point of view - I'd speculate.

And, if I am not mistaken, the flim-flam man also also had the audacity to stoop quite low and split hairs when it came time to fess up about his infidelities.

"It depends on what "is" is," he conjectured, with an awkward "caught with his di** in the wringer" sort-of expression on his naughty little school-boy face!

If Mr. Clinton took a defiant stand, instead of sitting on the picket fence once again, he might effect some positive change instead of the same old tripe.

In fact, I just betcha that if Clinton backed out of the commitment this late in the game, while the spotlight is so intense on the issues, his sponsors just might re-think their stance on Proposition 8, don't 'ya think?

But, since the man has no integrity?

Won't happen.

He'll just slink away with his di** hanging limply between his legs, as usual.

"You don't have any ba**s either, Bill."

Richard Raddon...quote of the day!

For the past two weeks - since news broke that Richard Raddon contributed $1500.00 in favor of the Proposition 8 initiative - there has been a flurry of activity at my blog site at Wordpress where I posted an article on despicable behaviour I encountered at the hands of Raddon a few months ago.

Post link:

http://julian1st.wordpress.com/2008/06/11/los-angeles-film-festivalrichard-raddon-improper-behaviour-la-times-conflict-of-interest-blogger-disdain-pass-on-it/

When Mr. Raddon resigned his post - in spite of the fact a handful of Board Members at the Los Angeles Film Festival encouraged him to remain on as Director (Don Cheadle, included) - the subject heated up with accusations flying back and forth between the Mormons, the gays, and the Blacks!

Did I forget anyone?

At my blogsite at wordpress, a number of pro-active anti-Proposition 8 folks have been posting comments non-stop.

I've been publishing them as part of the "healing" process.

Today, I laughed when one fellow attempted to post a comment (anonymously, of course!) in which he made the sweeping comment that everyone who posted on the issue - or visited the site to peruse the article - was a bigot!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

Proposition 8...no "gays" for a day. Ubiquitous "Man from glad" stays at home in protest!

Recently, Joel Stein (Los Angeles Times writer) tongue-in-cheek urged the LGBT community to organize a "no gays day" - much like the one that Latinos launched a few years ago - to hammer home the point that homosexuals play a vital part in the community-at-large (and in the marketplace) today.

The suggestion came on the heels of the widespread protests that erupted in the streets after the sad outcome of Proposition 8 - which ultimately - overturned a prior court ruling allowing same-sex marriage in the State of California.

Inspired by the hilarious musings of Mr. Stein, I proceeded to pen a naughty post in response.

As I was about to publish it, though, I held back.

Sensing that the issue was still too "hot" for the community to handle, I chose to relegate the amusing piece to "draft" status.

However, yesterday when I opened a copy of one of the local gay rags, I came across an article that alleged that there is a plan afoot at Facebook to organize a bona fide "no gays day" sometime in the near future.

So, I have hauled out the piece I previously wrote, with apologies in advance if I offend!

I started off by quoting Mr. Stein who howled in his article:

"Gays marching around West Hollywood and Silver Lake with their tired old placards, makes about as much sense as holding a John McCain rally next month at John McCain's house."

In the alternative, Stein elected to declare a "No Gays" for a day moratorium for December 5th, for example.

In no uncertain terms, the writer urged gays take specific action in support of the cause on that day, or another of their choosing.

"Gays should stay home from work, school, and do no shopping to prove how crucial they are to American society," he argued.

"No Gays for a Day will demonstrate what it would be like if - as so much of the non-coastal U.S. seems to desire - gays just disappeared."

The wonder boy conjectured that - unlike the Mexican protest - it was wholly possible that regular Joes in America may not have realized how omnipresent gays are in daily society.

The "strike" probably won't shut down the restaurant industry like the immigrant rally did, he chortled, but one thing was for certain.

"On December 5th fashion would not move forward."

He may have a point, I noted, on cue.

A "no gay" day may have more impact - let's say - than one held by Mexicans or African Americans.

As to a Latino walk-out - well, a day without the piercing drone of a leaf blower in Beverly Hills spreading hapless stray leaves this way 'n that (and back again) ad nauseam - would be a welcome respite from it all.

I also pine for the hallowed day when the soles of my expensive shoes are not soiled because of the incessant "washing down" of concrete and pavement by a battalion of Mexican gardeners like clockwork each morning, noon, and night in the Beverly Hills flats.

Frankly, a day without a snack at McDonald's or Jack-in-the-box, might do every American some good.

On that day - it's just possible - that middle America may be blessed with an epiphany and swear off junk food handled by unclean undocumented workers' hands once and for all.

A fast-food break from an unlicensed lunch trolley downtown may actually curb the runs for a day or so, also.

Of course, if Afro-Americans jumped on the bandwagon, the impact may be more far-reaching, a little more startling, and maybe a tad more inconvenient.

There wouldn't be a one-and-half hour wait in line at the post office for stamps, or a nasty encounter with a huffy clerk, who thinks she's better than the white folks she belittles each day.

And, you can forget about catching a bus across town.

If you're hoping to best that heavyset bus driver (with the plump ass, bad attitude, and ruby red lipstick) forget it.

She'll be the first in line to hang up her tacky uniform and head out for grits.

Tourists won't have the luxury of having porters carry their bags to a waiting train for a couple of coins of the realm.

And, in tony upscale Hotels in Beverly Hills, guests will have to struggle with their own expensive carry-alls.

Forget about a quick jaunt to the local dope dealer for a bit of crack, or a quick romp in a cheap motel with skanky pu**y.

No local pimp will be on hand to offer it up on a silver platter.

Yup, times would be tough for some, if Blacks stayed at home in South Los Angeles for twenty-four hours or so.

I expect that - contrary to what many citizens thought - there would be a number of hardships to bear if "gays" skipped their obligations for a day, too.

Blue-haired ladies would have to truss up their limp do's in a scarf, 'til Armando returned to touch up their highlights.

And, forget about a tasty meal at an upscale restaurant anywhere in Tinsel Town.

There won't be enough flippant waiters on hand to cater to any whim!

For a stressful day, discerning matrons may have to facilitate plastic flowers in the front foyer, because none of the fantzy-smantzy flower shops will have any flower arrangers on-the-ready to trim the tulips, arrange a few wisps of baby breath, or wrap the package in designer foils and fancy ribbons to tote back to the Manse.

Fashion victims heading off to Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus will have to rustle up a bit of their own mix 'n match skills if they're inclined to snap up a bevy of ties, dress shirts, and suit ensembles without a stylist from Otis Institute on the floor to give the nod.

Many banks may have a shortfall of workers, too.

Didn't 'ya know?

Gays tend to be right where the moolah is.

God forbid, you should anger the touchy-feely sensitive fellow!

Yeah, gays tend to like to get a take on a potential mates' holdings, before hooking up.

Unless, it's for quick anonymous sex. The rules change, in that event.

Just ask George Michael.

Yup, whether you knew it or not, that fey little man with the attentive flourish at the teller's window, may be a homo keeping a watchful eye over your cash and checking balance.

Well, of course, this post is outrageous and brimming with shocking hate-filled snipes at various stereotypes - racially, sexually - whatever!

The point I'm making is that if we all wanted to get nasty with each other, there is a heap load of fodder in each - culture, closet, or backyard - to shake a big threatening stick at.

Ultimately, there are many ugly mean-spirited ways to rattle "cages".

The best case scenario?

Everyone in the community should stop stereotyping - and show compassion and understanding instead - to their fellow man, woman, and child - no matter their race, color, or creed.

And, bottom line, try to reach out and show empathy.

Give and take a little, if necessary.

As the old saying goes:

"Treat others as you would have them treat you."

Proposition 8...News alert! Boycott Works. El Coyote donates cash to gay cause!

According to a morning daily - twenty two minutes after an announcement by protestors to reappear at the El Coyote restaurant in West Hollywood to voice their disapproval over an employee's support of Proposition 8 - employees coughed up $500 to donate to a fund to fight the anti-gay marriage ban!

The Boycott is working!

Ali Bay, a spokeswoman for Equality California, quickly noted to the media how the funds will be put to use.

"It will go toward our work and that includes working to overturn Propo 8. We're working legislatively and through the courts to promote equality for community."

In an earlier post, I noted that gay activists determined earlier in the week that an employee - Marjorie Christoffersen (a Mormon disciple) - donated $100 towards the vote "yes" on Prop 8 campaign.

Because El Coyote is a popular local eatery among gay residents in the neighborhood, the unexpected contribution stirred up a hornet's nest of controversy, when it came to light to opponents of Proposition 8.

Employees rustled up the contribution on short notice for a couple of reasons.

"Maybe it's a way to say sorry, that we have always tried to be a charity place, that we donate to a lot of places. It's something to show we can help also," employee Arnoldo Archila, noted solemnly to the press.

The protestors have been causing a lot of discomfort for employees (one called in and wondered to her superior if she should stay at home until the controversy blew over) and patrons alike.

A handful of customers saw a night of wining and dining go down in flames, ruined by loud protestors in the streets, for instance.

Manager Larry Crenshaw was on top of it, though.

He apologized profusely, then picked up their $50 tab.

I was a little upset to read that Crenshaw alleged that protestors shouted out vulgarities at patrons when they departed from the establishment, on the 2nd evening of protests.

While I support the picketing, and the vocal protesting, I think it is counter-productive to the cause to engage in low, demeaning conduct, that amounts to harassment.

Therefore, I strongly urge all activists involved in the protests to hold their heads high and tackle the cause with dignity and grace.

That issue aside, a quote by Abraham Lincoln merits thought, too.

"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."

Proposition 8...did 70% of Blacks vote down Gay Marriage? Are West Hollywood gays racist?

Yesterday, I posted a feature about Gay activists who protested the outcome of the Prop 8 initiative on Hollywood Boulevard the other evening, amid an overwhelming presence of riot police.

Some chastised the LAPD for "overkill".

Within minutes of posting, I was quite alarmed to receive a message from one blogger, who asserted that West Hollywood "gays" had it coming, essentially.

Here is what he said, verbatim:

on November 12, 2008 at 6:45 pm Monster 62

"I don’t know why that West Hollywood crowd are all pissed off at blacks because they voted 70% in support of Proposition 8. The reaction they are having toward blacks, etc. is “exactly” why they voted the way they did.

Everyone knows those Gays up in Weho are some of the most “racist” group of people unless it benefits “them”. Here’s some advice West Hollywood Group or Gay’s. How about trying to treat people the way you want to be treated.

If you all want Prop 8 passed one day and get the support — how about getting the support of these other “groups” and help them understand why they should support your cause. Calling people names and using the “slave derogatory word” won’t get you anywhere.

If anything it will make people vote against you. Final word, take “no one’s vote” for granite. Hatred and ignorance has no place in America anymore! If you want “America” to change — you have to start in your own house first."

Post: 11/12/08 http://www.julian1st.wordpress.com/

In my response comment, I noted - for starters - that there were more "blacks" living and working in WEHO than ever before.

And, I might add, in harmony with their neighbors!

I should know; after all, I've resided in West Hollywood for the past twenty years.

Frankly, Monster 62's response was out-of-line, if you ask me.

Not only have gays welcomed blacks, Mexicans - whomever - into the community with open arms, they also incorporated a city where gays and minorities could feel comfortable in their skin, at home in their sexuality, and free of discrimination.

Notwithstanding the obvious, when A.I.D.S. first broke out years ago, it was the gay community that reached out to all those inflicted when the government, straights, and the ignorant would not.

Despite skin color or sexual persuasion, gays offered medical services, shelter, food, and financial assistance.

The A.I.D.S. walk was also instituted, in a bold-faced effort to build a powerhouse of resources so scientists, doctors, and researchers could fight the disease and hasten a cure.

I find it appalling - if true, as Monster 62 alleges - that 70% of the Black community voted down Gay Marriage.

When gays jumped on the bandwagon, and started to back Obama in his bid to be 1st Black President of the United States, I recall penning a post that posed an all-important question of the Presidential hopeful.

Would Barack be urging his supporters to Vote "no" on Proposition 8?

If he took appropriate action, his voice must have fallen on deaf ears.

In retrospect, it appears that the Black Community stabbed all gays in the back.

Is that the thanks gays get for opening up their community in a spirit of humanity?

In view of what has transpired in recent days, I can only opine this.

Too bad we can't turn back the clock!

If blacks are unhappy with the gay lifestyle in West Hollywood, then they should find another community to leach off of.

They're a thorn in the community's side, otherwise!

Gay marriage ban lifted...Dudes lookin' for Mr. Right!

Virile Cowboy images high on list of gay erotica...

Well, they are dancin' a jig in San Francisco tonight, on the heels of an Appellate court ruling lifting a ban on "gay marriage".

So, while the legal eagles dissect and interpret the Judges' wranglings - and the mainstream press makes social commentary about the issues - I thought I would get "down" to practical issues.

The Quest? How to find an "eligible" gay man to pin your romantic hopes on!

True, the lifting of the ban may result in a little more openness among a handful of shy dudes who have been lurking around in the closet 'til now, but I am inclined to hazard a guess that there will be a couple of potential catches not so noticeable on the old "gaydar".

As fate would have it, I stumbled upon Laurie Mitchell's insightful book - "So, Is he Gay?" - in a used-book store - "Out of the Closet" - of all places. Imagine that! So, I thumbed through the sticky pages to find a handful of pointers for all you single folks out there on the look-out for a studly single homo guy to get hitched to.

Well, for starters, appearance may signal a few tell-tale signs, don’t ‘ya think?

According to Ms. Mitchell, a gay man stands out in his neatly-ironed shirt and perfectly-fitting - clean, never frayed or patched - designer jeans. In contrast, be on the watch for rumpled clothing and obvious "worn" spots in the trousers - where car keys, change, and a wallet have worn through - 'cause this means you're wasting your time on a die-hard straight dude.

To a gay man shoes are important; so, they are always coordinated with the rest of the chic ensemble, never worn down at the heels. The dude who chases chicks will have ones with thick soles - for comfort, not style - according to Mitchell. And, are usually paired with a shirt and pant toss up. He often refers to his wardrobe choices as "rags" - which they are (my notation, not hers).

Strike up a bit of chit-chat 'cause the non-heterosexual's career choice will signal a lot, too. One of the "boys" will be in antiques, a hotel desk clerk, or in gainful employment where fashion or theatre is involved, she asserts. The straight guy, according to Mitchell - first and foremost - is an engineer. That may conjure up macho images to some, but forget it. I say, be practical: what's the dude goin' to do with a pen** anyway, if he's not that way inclined?

Speaking of which, she correctly notes that the slang term - "uncut" - means "uncircumcised" to a friend of Dorothy. But, to a randy straight stud, the colorful word fathoms up images of sensual down-and-dirty "adult videos". Good target on that one, Ms. Mitchell.

If you stumble across a potential love interest in a park, keep your eye out for a foo-foo dog because it's a dead give-a-way. He-man types love big dogs that slurp them full in-the-face, that they can wrestle with, I say.

Gays use a loofah (bet you don't know what that is; confession, I do) while his true male counterpart prefers an old-fashioned washcloth, notes the author.

And, from me, another astute observation. At the Laundromat, straight guys just "heave-ho" all their soiled clothes into one giant machine - colors and whites - alike. Detergent? The dudes just dump it in with nary an afterthought.

In contrast, I have noticed gay men not only separating, but painstakingly mixing loads at extra expense. Later, fluff and fold downtime is used to surreptitiously cruise all the available bachelors in the coin wash.

Mitchell says there are distinct personality differences, too. On the dominant side, a gay male pursues fun first, getting laid second. I'm inclined to contradict; force of habit, I guess. Meanwhile, she contends that the straight arrow has a big focus on getting laid first and getting ahead, second.

Guess that's why he always grabs for the remote? (my offering)

Gays notice the details (there's a specialty magazine to facilitate that) while straights are into the "big picture". I'll add, where it matters most, in the chest.

A Gay filmgoer pines for Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio. Meanwhile, the heterosexual man is not threatened by actors - Sly Stallone, Bruce Willis, or handsome Harrison Ford - even if there are partial nude scenes of their studly buffed bods onscreen. (my observation)

When it comes to country music, the square-dancing gay LUVS Tammy Wynette. Straight cowboys prefer Hank Williams Jr., she contends.

And, what of the ever-changing fickle pop music scene? The "girls" may go for talented cutie Justin Timberlake. The straights, who knows? Somethin' tells me their tastes are all across the board! Depending on their girlfriends, I guess!

A sure sign he's gay?

He strikes up a conversation with you at the urinal in the men's room.

Likes what he spied below the belt, I figure!
