West Hollywood...all-male gay City Council looms on horizon! Political times are-a-changing!

A candidate for West Hollywood City Council - known for hanging an effigy of Sarah Palin on his roof during the 2008 Presidential Race - is running alongside five other fresh faces in the upcoming election on Tuesday.

John Heilman - the current Mayor (a City Council bench-warmer since 1984 when the boon town was first incorporated as a "gay" city) - is fighting for his seat with two fellow council members (Abbe Land and Lindsay Horvath).

The bid for power in WeHo - affectionately known to the locals as "gay gulch" - is expected to be a contentious battle right up until the last ballot is cast.

In the event the six upstarts nab three available seats, WeHo would make history for voting in the country's first all-male gay City Council.

Subsequently, there has been an outcry from a handful of the locals.

"Certainly it would be quite unique and historic. But straight women and lesbians are feeling like - "If these guys get there who is going to look out for us" - one resident piped up a bit indignantly to one media outlet.

On the other hand, quite a few contented WeHo males are happy with the status quo, and the way the city is growing.

Even still, candidates have been focusing their debates on parking restrictions, over development in the neighborhood (too many unsightly odd-ball Condo Units, for example, in place of quaint cottages that were once the norm), and the need to preserve LGBT culture in the community.

Personally, I'm all for new "blood" in City Council chambers!

Getting folks out to the polls will be key in accomplishing that task!

See 'ya there!

Queens...they shoot horses, don't they?

As I sipped my morning java, and checked e-mail at Pavillions at the crack of dawn, the idle chit-chat of a couple of tacky old Queens perched behind me pierced the air.

OMG, Mary!

If you ever catch siight of  me in a coffee clatch gossiping alongside a gaggle of tired old drags like that - shoot me - please!

I'd rather die a quick death than a slow long-drawn out tacky one like that!

The way to go!

Barney's Beanery: no fags allowed! West Hollywood...

For years, Barney's Beanery (situated in the heart of West Hollywood & gay gulch) refused to take a sign down in the restaurant that said:

No Fags Allowed.

This past year management at the bastion of straight-dom finally complied with the Gay Community's request.

APPLAUSE!

In view of the foregoing, I thought it ironic that right across the street, City Officials erected a War Memorial.

Yes, the battle with Barney's Beanery, was won!

No Gays for a day...life's a beach!

In a post last week, I noted that a reporter - in the wake of the Proposition 8 debate - put forth the suggestion that "gays" take a queue from Latinos in the community who didn't show up for work one day a few years ago to demonstrate how integral their presence was to the fabric of society.

Well, today was "D" day!

Yup, "Don't" go to work day!

Why, even Valentine - a local talk-jock on the radio - was yapping about it at the crack of dawn at 6 a.m.

Since the platter-spinner turned up at the radio station to throttle the airwaves, are listeners to assume that he's a breeder?

Nasty name-calling, eh?

Moving right along!

Right off-the-bat, I am noting for the record, that the "Latinos" planned their rebellion well-in-advance.

In contrast, a bevy of studly boy-toys were a little remiss in their party-planner duties.

A mere two weeks or so after the novel idea was first conjured up at the end of November, the protest went forward.

So - if "glum" (un-gay) day doesn't pan out (homos aren't missed one iota) at least the community can blame the organizers for being fools that rushed in without paying heed to a Boy Scout motto.

Always be prepared!

Of course, most musical dudes aren't too familiar with that little ditty, for obvious reasons.

Heh!

Who wants to hike, learn how to start a fire with a bundle of faggots, and have sleep-overs with studly outdoorsy guys, or get raped by a pimply-faced counselor, anyway?

Notwithstanding, I elected to take a stroll through West Hollywood this morning to take stock of the situation.

It was about ten o'clock in the morning, birds were a-flutter, and an almost-mystical mist was just burning off the picturesque Hollywood Hills.

But, the streets of gay gulch were relatively quiet.

Had all the hotties dashed off to Will Roger's Beach for the day to wag their tongues gaily under the sizzling-hot mid-afternoon sun - a golden orb now - rising high in the sky?

For those of you who are out-of-state, or not in-the-know, the stretch of beach just south of Malibu I am referring to is a "gay" beach where surf's up among other things.

Which I find ironic.

Probably one of the most famous quotes uttered by Will Rogers was:

"I never met a man I didn't like."

At "Eat Well", a popular fag hang-out for breakies in the bright-and-early a.m., staff prepared to greet customers who may or may not traipse through the door any minute.

The same scenario was underway at the French Marketplace and the Silver Spoon.

The latter eatery was Shelley Winters' old hang-out, by the way.

Maybe the straight waiters were taking a double-shift today?

I just knew someone would profit somehere somehow!

Meanwhile, in front of Starbucks a camera crew was setting up.

Ah, now it was apparent to anyone who straggled into WeHo, they were right at (as Liz Taylor's character in "Virginia Woolf" would harp) the "meat" of things.

Situated across from the gym in one direction, and Trader Joe's in the other, Starbucks is strategically positioned to rack in all those pinkbacks the Proposition 8 supporters are crying about losing now-a-days!

I managed to eat a light breakfast in a local bistro - in spite of the fact - snippy gay waiters were off kitbitzing somewhere.

Ah, a Latino was at-the-ready to earn a few bucks.

The post office was business-as-usual, too.

So, I posted a handful of X-Mas cards of Santa's with muscled abs and eye-popping packages.

The Afro-American counter-folks were, no doubt, praising the Lord.

No prissy "gay" clients fussing over this 'n that 'til the morrow.

Since I don't consider blogging work - you betcha, it's a joy bozo - I am inclined to pen a post.

After all, someone has to get the "gay" news out.

Oscar Wilde once said that Homosexuality was the love that dare not speak its name.

Now, it's the love that won't shut up!

Amen.
