Ellen DeGeneres...Twitter Escape all booked! Ship ahoy...

For those of you who toiled away in a stuffy office last week - and missed all the hoopla over the cruise that Ellen whipped together at the twitter site for Ellen Fans the end of last week - I am inclined to report on a handful of the delicious details.

It all started when Ellen quipped in a tweet that she was longing to flutter off on a fun-filled weekend jaunt to parts unknown for a bit of catchy two-stepping (according to shock jock Howard Stern - she's a fab dancer - 'ya know?) - and just maybe - a round or two of poker (last man standing).

Any suggestions, she queried her dedicated fans.

Within seconds, a handful of excited Ellen Fans (moi included) chirped up.

Suddenly, Ellen was fast-tracking a tantalizing itinerary for a "Twitter Escape", a handful of Ellen Fans were invited to tag along on in August (2009).

A whaling trip - with a night of poker tossed in for good measure - was difficult to resist.

In fact, so much so, that within twenty-four hours the novelty cruise was sold out!

I expect that other talk-show hosts will jump on the bandwagon in the lazy days of summer ahead, eh?

You betcha!

No doubt, Letterman ("top ten" sea tricks cruise) and Jerry Springer ( "pillow fight" tease charter) will be rustling up pleasurable people perker-uppers with a nod to Ellen for leading the merry way.

Oprah (not to be outdone by upstarts) will obviously coral her best bud - the Prez - to helm her ritzy good-ship lollipop.

Undoubtedly, she'll also book a multitude of snake-oil salesmen to pitch unproven alternative medicines on deck, once the luxury liner heads out to sea.

Nothing like a captive audience, eh?

My bets are on Ellen's magical mystery tour.

How could the current "it" girl possibly go wrong?

Whoa Nellie!
She meant strip poker

Barack Obama...red-neck attitudes about candidate! Disc Jockey remains cool...

On a morning talk show a disc jockey earned kudos for his patience in dealing with a combative call-in guest on the live broadcast.

When a voter resides in a specific area of the country, he or she tends to become keenly familiar with differing points of view on key political and social issues.

But, after I listened in on a conversation today on talk radio - I shook my head and seriously wondered if the rantings of a particular young man - is what people often referred to out West as the "red-neck mentality".

Judging from the man's wild off-the-wall comments - it was quite evident that he was not only out-of-touch with the facts - but also reality.

It's doubtful the non-stop mouthpiece ever reads newspapers or the editorials.

Somehow, I surmise that he doesn't even take a boo at the Nightly News, of any persuasion.

For starters - the hostile gent was inclined to control the conversation - which the host took exception to.

"Let's have a conversation," he urged the emotional guest.

"Just let me finish what I have to say, will 'ya?" he blasted back.

His musings were not to be believed, trust me.

First, he asserted that Barack Obama was just a Junior Senator, who had no right to go "in there" and take a shot at the Presidency.

Huh? Was he suggesting that Obama twisted a few arms for his moment in the sun?

Maybe those Chicago stories have more truth to 'em than the voters ever fathomed, eh?

Then, the lack-jawed caller, proceeded to allege that Barack was being evasive about where he was born exactly (!).

"Why did he use the name Barry in school, and not Hussein, then?" he quizzed pointedly.

Oh, he's definitely hiding the fact he's a terrorist, dude!

The disc jockey tried to get a word in edgewise - at which point - he noted the caller lacked tolerance.

"Are you calling me a racist?"

Whoa Nellie!

With a little nudging, the radio host managed to politely get the conversation back on track in a civil manner, but the oddball politico continued with his tirades.

"Obama doesn't have the experience to run the military. And, by the way, that was wrong of him to call McCain by his first name, John."

Shocking disrespect for a Military hero? Uh-huh!

There must have been quite a few heads shaking in amazement on highways and byways around the country in the dewy hours of dawn, I just betcha!

His final comment prompted me to switch channels.

"Oprah Winfrey stabbed every woman in America in the back when she endorsed that man. Hillary had the ticket, you know that, don't you?"

Later, dude!

I think I'll stick to elevator music until the election is over!

Oprah back-stabber extraordinaire...
