Walgreens...incompetent employees as slow as molasses in January! Poor quality products!

With so many Americans around the country crying-the-blues over unemployment, you'd think that it would be a retailer's market when it came to hiring workers, right?

Even so, for some inexplicable reason, Walgreens continues to employ rude incompetent staff that are a turn-off to consumers-at-large.

For example, at their outlet at Charleston and Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas, a male cashier on the morning shift (6:30 a.m.) can barely handle one customer at the register let alone two or three waiting there impatiently.

When the elusive "they" invented the catch phrase - "as slow as molasses in January" - they must have been thinking of that unkempt dim-witted middle-aged dude!

In addition, the large percentage of their staff have all the personality and charm of a worm!

Talk about bad attitudes.

If I was in charge, I'd purge the ranks, and toss a job fair!

Notwithstanding, it should also be noted that their products are of low quality, too.

Their stock is worse than what you'd scoff-up off the shelves at the 99 cent store!

For instance, a nail clipper I purchased for approximately $2.00, snapped in two after using it once.

And, a pen I purchased for $2.99 ran out of ink the next day.

Daily, they try to foist - badly bruised bananas, rotting fruit, stale pastries, and over-priced water - on the teaming masses who fly in while on vacation locally.

CVS is starting to look pretty good as an alternative for shopping these days!

Mr. Manners...tipping not a place in China! Waitress's rude rant on Fox!

On a local Fox "rant" segment on the evening news the other evening a tired old waitress complained that gamblers on the Casino floor were not coughing up coin of the realm for drinkie-poohs she plunked down by their one-armed bandits while they were busy trying their luck.

"Las Vegas is a tipping town," she hissed on the station's voice mail unit.

"If you aren't going to tip, then don't come to Las Vegas," she angrily added before slamming down the telephone.

Boy, does this loser have shit for brains!

A few days ago, I published guidelines on tipping in the exotic desert oasis, and underscored in particular that tips were discretionary in Vegas (and cited the reasons why).

If that was not the case, Management would impose a mandatory surcharge of 10% - 15% on each tab like they do overseas in Europe.

Just try to stiff a snooty French waiter at a sidewalk cafe!

On this side of the big pond, it's a simple matter to hustle up a tip, though.

For starters, move your ass, honey!

And, deliver up the cocktail promptly, with a smile on your face (and a cheerful disposition if at all possible).

Surely your face won't crack!

Standing around with your thumb up your butt begging for tips just doesn't cut it.

Have you no self-respect?

Bottom line?

Don't punish the patrons because you hate your job and have to toil to make ends meet.

If you can't cut it, then hang up your apron, and make room for a thankful employee who pines for a job in these tough economic times.

Tipping may not be a place in China - but it is also not compulsory - especially when it comes to lay-abouts without any work ethic who expect the world to pay their way in life.

As Joan Rivers would quip:

Grow up!

Los Angeles...too many foreigners? Angry homeless man expresses his angst...

The other day - a male (white mid-40's) - approached me for spare change on the street in upscale West Los Angeles.

Suddenly, without warning, he started into an angry rant.

"There are too many foreigners in Los Angeles," he griped with a bitter tone in his voice.

"The Latino immigrants are hogging all the work."

I surmised at this juncture, that a large percentage of the jobs he was referring to, were probably menial task low-paying posts of not much interest to educated white folks with specialized work skills.

"I'd take one of those jobs. I'm homeless and I need the cash."

"They hate us.," he barked out angrily.

"Why is that?"

I argued that it was probably because - as Paris Hilton would say - "wrinkly old white dudes " - have been in control of the power structure in the United States for the past couple of centuries.

"It's natural for them to resent us," I guess.

When I reflected on the plight of this homeless man later, I recalled that in my travels around the country the past year or so, there appeared to be a growing number of white males in the 40-50 age range - in Las Vegas, San Francisco, and major cities back East - out-of-work and on the streets.

How was it that the fortunes of these men had so tragically reversed?

Was it due to the introduction of computers (and subsequent automation) , the prevailing trend towards cheap non-union labor, or the influx of a wave of immigrants descending on these shores hungry for work at any cost?

No one seems to care.

The media - indeed, political activists and the government, too - have been inclined to put the big focus these days on immigrants and their rights and/or issues pertaining to racism because Blacks allege they have been victims of discrimination.

No wonder, there is a growing outcry from disgruntled Anglo-Saxons, who swear they are being short-changed, too.

I am reminded of the Ron Paul movement during the election.

Although Paul's followers were somewhat extremist in their views about immigrants - and trends that threatened foundations this great Nation were built on - some of their idealogies (and outspoken alarmist views) have not fallen on deaf ears.

A less strident (more realistic) posse of of White Americans have taken a cue and are now standing up and demanding to be heard.

"The Latinos and the Blacks are the ones that are racist."

So, with an eye to the future, grass roots oganizations are springing up in a bold-faced effort to protect the interests of White Americans around the country - with the ultimate aim of holding on to their stake in the American dream - too.
