Job Fair...Dress for Success! No Cell Phones! No Shorts!

If you're heading for one of those job fairs in Las Vegas next week, it's important to follow a few golden rules if 'ya hanker to land gainful employment with great pay to boot!

For starters?

Dress for success - and that means - no shorts (for starters)!

And, steer clear of peacock ensembles like the one that the Television News anchor (Fox News 5) sported on air bright-and-early at-the-crack-of-dawn this morning.

The hapless newsie committed a fashion faux pas when he teamed an elegant wine-colored dress shirt (trimmed with a starched-white collar!) with a tie (in a lighter shade of rose) against a dark silhouette (i.e. a chic two-piece suit).

In a nutshell?

The unfashionable fop whipped up a "pimp look" that would have turned-off any employer.

In the altnerative?

Well - an understated tie in conservative colors (with a shirt sans constrasting blinding-white collar) - would surely been preferable (and triggered a nod of approval from a potential boss).

There are another couple of tips worth following, too.

Ignore a cell phone if it goes off during the course of the job interview.

If you throw caution to the window - and elect to answer it - your resume will probably be tossed in the garbage (go figure).

And, dashing outside for a smoke is a no-no, too.

Any Nun will  tell 'ya, it is a dirty habit!

In fact, don't show up at a one-on-one interview with bold splashes of cologne - clinging to your body perfect - either.

By the way, as we say in show biz, break a leg!

Mr. Manners...tipping not a place in China! Waitress's rude rant on Fox!

On a local Fox "rant" segment on the evening news the other evening a tired old waitress complained that gamblers on the Casino floor were not coughing up coin of the realm for drinkie-poohs she plunked down by their one-armed bandits while they were busy trying their luck.

"Las Vegas is a tipping town," she hissed on the station's voice mail unit.

"If you aren't going to tip, then don't come to Las Vegas," she angrily added before slamming down the telephone.

Boy, does this loser have shit for brains!

A few days ago, I published guidelines on tipping in the exotic desert oasis, and underscored in particular that tips were discretionary in Vegas (and cited the reasons why).

If that was not the case, Management would impose a mandatory surcharge of 10% - 15% on each tab like they do overseas in Europe.

Just try to stiff a snooty French waiter at a sidewalk cafe!

On this side of the big pond, it's a simple matter to hustle up a tip, though.

For starters, move your ass, honey!

And, deliver up the cocktail promptly, with a smile on your face (and a cheerful disposition if at all possible).

Surely your face won't crack!

Standing around with your thumb up your butt begging for tips just doesn't cut it.

Have you no self-respect?

Bottom line?

Don't punish the patrons because you hate your job and have to toil to make ends meet.

If you can't cut it, then hang up your apron, and make room for a thankful employee who pines for a job in these tough economic times.

Tipping may not be a place in China - but it is also not compulsory - especially when it comes to lay-abouts without any work ethic who expect the world to pay their way in life.

As Joan Rivers would quip:

Grow up!

Steven Slater...reality show! Offers for Jet Blue renegade rolling in!

Steve at home in kitchen rustling up some grub!

Word out of Hollywood is that Steven Slater - the "take your job and shove it guy" - has hooked up with a top-ranked publicist with clout who is now fielding a myriad of enticing offers being floated his way.

Books. TV appearances. Nightclub routines.

First up?

A reality show that would have Slater smack dab in the glare of the spotlight finding ways for unhappy American workers around the country to "quit" their jobs.

Novel idea, eh?

Some of the tabloid new anchors are up in the arms at the mere thought of it - though - in view of the intriguing developments that have unfolded in the past forty-eight hours or so.

For starters, authorities at the airport have been unable to locate the feisty gal the flighty flight attendant alleged bopped him on the head (which supposedly triggered the startling chain-reaction turn of events being discussed the world-over now).

Was it all a figment of his imagination, I wonder.

Too many drinkie-poohs, Steven?

With that in mind, one busty broad with a loud mouth at a Geraldo-style gab fest, was inclined to hazzard a guess that Slater had a credibility problem.

In a nutshell?

"You can't have a reality show, if the incident never took place."

What, no security video available, to sift through at an airport???

Body scans, yes. Those perverts!

"America would never accept a reality show, if it wasn't based on reality," another piped up in disgust.

You don't say!

Even still, there is an obvious built-in ratings twist.

The train - um - plane wreck mentality is bound to rustle up a truckload of ratings.

Today, in one quarter, an irate talk show host got mad when she caught sight of publicity stills of the former Jet Blue employee backstage mingling with Pop Diva Barry Mannilow.

'OMG!"

"He's just cashing in, isn't he?"

Just maybe, they were sharing tips on highlighting.

Jealous!

Las Vegas...Disc Jockeys @ KSNE 106.5 provide job opportunities!

How refreshing!

One of the local radio stations - Sunny 106.5 (KSNE) - has conjured up a novel way to nudge the unemployed seeking jobs back into the work force.

Listeners are invited to call in and give a 60-second run-down of their job history and the type of post they are seeking.

The resume will be posted on the radio station's web site (KSNE.COM) with the applicant's consent.

Potential employers will peruse the site with the ultimate aim of locating suitable candidates for upcoming job openings.

In view of all the fluff that is on the radio today, kudos go to management & owners at KSNE - and their DJ's - for reaching out to the community with a constructive project that is a worthwhile endeavour in an hour of need!
