Steve Jobs...iPhone and lofty notion of “anechoics” piques curiosity among users!

Wizard fesses up that rim may muffle sound reception!

The Holy Scriptures note that  - "In  the beginning" - there was one of these.

And, a high-profile pundit - Bill O'Reilly - tries to pique the curious (and, at the same, educate  'em) - at the upbeat close of his live telecast each evening on Fox TV with a quiz about one.

Of course, I am referring to the almighty "word".

In fact, during these troubled economic times in American - when unemploymnt is at an all-time high, for instance - many are struggling to raise the consciousness for good reason.

In sum, there is an urgent need to lift up a handful of citizens by the bootstraps, but few have the capacity to step forward and accomplish the task.

Then, there is the question of corporate responsibility, which Execs tend to shirk from on these once-pristine shores.

Does BP spring to mind?

Except for one top dawg at the Apple Corporation.

CEO Steve Jacobs held a press conference yesterday, with the specific aim of reaching out to customers who were recently stung by a number of bugs the spanking-new version of iPhone thrust upon 'em unexpectedly and without warning.

If not held "just so", reception would end up in the dumper "just like that".

Jobs, an intelligent forward-thinker - and a true invention maestro - not only seized the day to invite a rare glimpse into Apple's secret testing facility (mind-blowing, no doubt) but also introduce a "word" that would best describe (without much difficulty) the nature of a glitch in the iPhone product.

Anechoic.

Say what?

The term originates in the field of electronics - and is used to describe anechoic chambers - rooms designed to completely block sound or other electromagnetic waves.

In tandem with a detailed lecture on the subject, Jobs unveiled images of Apple’s state-of-the-art facility, to better describe the fascinating process.

“You have to build these rooms or you don’t get accurate results. We’ve invested over $100 million on this," he excitedly gushed to a rapt audience of geeks, regular folks, and media hounds anxious to get a jump on it.

In a nutshell, Apple uses the massive rooms to test reception and potential interference from other electronic transmissions.

Ultimately, the goal is to prevent unexpected snafus like the one which surfaced at the unveiling impromptu, which must have embarrassed the heck out of Apple's Chief wizard initially.

After all - until now - Steve Jobs and his Apple crew appeared to have been infallible.

iPhone...joke of the day! Mit out signal...

Fans of high-tech gizmos - and product manufactured by Microscope - stood patienly in a seemingly endless line yesterday that swelled down the bustling street.

Gosh!

The spanking-new Iphone continued to fly off the shelves in the midst of a circus-like atmosphere.

But, within hours it was time to get down to the nitty-gritty.

A handful of die-hard geeks started grumbling about sound quality.

Steve Jobs was quick on the uptake.

"You're not holding the gadget right," he uttered up with a grin on his face.

At this juncture, there was a demonstration n to shed some light on the glitch complained of.

The really "cool" communication device (which is so much more than that, really) was designed with a slim piece of lightweight metal on the perimeter which doubles as the antennae.

In fact, the dialogue inspired the joke of the day.

When one user whined that the signal wavered that when he held it "like that", Jobs allegedly quipped:

"Don't hold it like that," he joked.

Duh!

Maybe those bozos should forget about high-tech telephones and take a page from the past.

Two tin cans and a piece of string should do the trick!

Los Angeles...too many foreigners? Angry homeless man expresses his angst...

The other day - a male (white mid-40's) - approached me for spare change on the street in upscale West Los Angeles.

Suddenly, without warning, he started into an angry rant.

"There are too many foreigners in Los Angeles," he griped with a bitter tone in his voice.

"The Latino immigrants are hogging all the work."

I surmised at this juncture, that a large percentage of the jobs he was referring to, were probably menial task low-paying posts of not much interest to educated white folks with specialized work skills.

"I'd take one of those jobs. I'm homeless and I need the cash."

"They hate us.," he barked out angrily.

"Why is that?"

I argued that it was probably because - as Paris Hilton would say - "wrinkly old white dudes " - have been in control of the power structure in the United States for the past couple of centuries.

"It's natural for them to resent us," I guess.

When I reflected on the plight of this homeless man later, I recalled that in my travels around the country the past year or so, there appeared to be a growing number of white males in the 40-50 age range - in Las Vegas, San Francisco, and major cities back East - out-of-work and on the streets.

How was it that the fortunes of these men had so tragically reversed?

Was it due to the introduction of computers (and subsequent automation) , the prevailing trend towards cheap non-union labor, or the influx of a wave of immigrants descending on these shores hungry for work at any cost?

No one seems to care.

The media - indeed, political activists and the government, too - have been inclined to put the big focus these days on immigrants and their rights and/or issues pertaining to racism because Blacks allege they have been victims of discrimination.

No wonder, there is a growing outcry from disgruntled Anglo-Saxons, who swear they are being short-changed, too.

I am reminded of the Ron Paul movement during the election.

Although Paul's followers were somewhat extremist in their views about immigrants - and trends that threatened foundations this great Nation were built on - some of their idealogies (and outspoken alarmist views) have not fallen on deaf ears.

A less strident (more realistic) posse of of White Americans have taken a cue and are now standing up and demanding to be heard.

"The Latinos and the Blacks are the ones that are racist."

So, with an eye to the future, grass roots oganizations are springing up in a bold-faced effort to protect the interests of White Americans around the country - with the ultimate aim of holding on to their stake in the American dream - too.
