According to the San Francisco Chronicle:

"Dance doesn't get more soul-stirring."

The critic was referring to the Alvin Alley American Dance Theater slated to appear at the Orange County Performing Arts Center next week (Segerstrom Hall)

Known for their remarkable breathtaking physiques, the celebrated African American Dance troupe will be showcasing those very attributes, during a week-long tribute to Judith Jamison in honor of her 20th Anniversay at the helm as Artistic Director.

The West Coast Premiere of  - "Dancing Spirit", "Among Us", and "Uptown" - will obviously be highlight performances to look forward to come curtain call.

San Francisco...Harvey Fierstein kvetches in Fiddler on Roof! 4 star production...

Oh, that Harvey Feinstein is such a ham, isn' he?

One minute, he's garnering accolades for a bang-on characterization on the old boob tube.

The next, Mr. Feirstein has 'em rolling in the aisles when he tries his acting chops in an off-beat feature film role.

When I passed the marquee on Market Street announcing that the celebrated award-winning triple-threat (singing, dancer, actor) was stepping into the role of a main character in the popular Broadway musical - Fiddler On the Roof - my knee-jerk reaction was swift-and -severe.

Oy veh!

That ham.

The secret was definitely out:

Harvey is in San Francisco and about to rustle up a powerhouse of entertainment (and much-deserved applause) in his latest head-scratching incarneration on the West Coast stage.

In fact, when I spied the excited throngs hopping off the trolley and streaming out of Bart (the public transport system under Market Street), I whipped out my camera to catch the electricity in the air that sparked the mood of theatre-goers headed into the lobby for a cocktail or two before last curtain call (Matinee).

Phantom of the Opera...Vegas 5-day festival! Hal Prince to attend...

"Phans" will be descending on the Vegas strip tonight as a 5-day tribute to the long-running hit musical - "Phantom of the Opera" - kicks off!

The thrilling celebration includes a Masquerade Ball at the Venetian at St. Mark's Square.

According to die-hard stage-musical-lovers, a "phan" is one who has attended the "Phantom" dozens - maybe hundreds - of times and is totally obssessed with all the scintillating dramatic details of the ill-fated love story.

During the course of the five-day theatrical adventure - every morning and afternoon of each day, in fact - participants will indulge in myriad aspects of the musical - from the artistry of the makeup,  to one-on-one meetings with the cast, and actual tours of the theatre and "chandelier".

At the close of every magical day, there will be a performance of  "Phantom of the Opera", too.

Honorary guest - Hal Prince (director/Producer) - will address fans at the opening ceremonies, too.

Las Vegas...Donny & Marie celebrate 1 year on Vegas strip! Gifts for guests...

When Donny &  Marie appeared on stage this week to celebrate their one-year anniversay, the winsome twosome were in such high spirits that they decided to share the wealth a tad.

For example, every guest in the audience who snapped up a ticket that night to attend the upbeat cutesy show, was treated to delicious Godiva designer chocolates.

When I was a teen growing up in the burbs of  Toronto, I used to catch their weekly Variety Show on the old boob tube.

Donny was the mischievous Osmond - a typical heart-throb - who savored a posse of gushing fans who hung on every (aw-shucks) gushing word and bat-of-a fluttering eyelash.

Marie, on the other hand, played the "straight man" -and wisely - allowed her brother to be the foil.

When it was recently announced that Donny was slated to appear on Fox's highly-rated musical hit - "So, You think you can Dance" -  the perky performer was quick to note that her brother was a worthy contestant.

"Donny works up such a sweat on stage," she giggled to one interviewer.

Was Marie hinting that a little "B.O" may be wafting about the stage in his wake and on the heels of getting down 'n dirty on stage?
