Kirstie Alley...big reality! Zoftig star slimming down to size...

The "big" one starred with Shaun Cassidy in Hardy Boys!

Kirstie Alley has been bouncing around the boob tube bellowing about her new reality TV show.

"The Big Life" premieres on A&E on Sunday evening (March 21st).

The fleshy offering tosses the searing lens of the camera on Alley's dumpy frame and her subsequent efforts to slim down as voyeurs around the country peer on in gut-wrenching disbelief.

What a p-i-g (some might utter under their breath); thankful, they're over the hump themselves.

On one early-morning talk show, Ms Alley was quite adamant that her religion - Scientology (more like Science Fiction to me; after all, writer Ron Hubbard wrote in that genre) had nothing to with her decision to go public on the issue of her Highness's "bigness".

One perky host quizzed Alley about her long-term goals in taking on such an - um - hefty assignment.

"It's not about staying slim, because that would be a difficult goal to maintain. To find the right weight for me sounds comfortable (and ideal)."

The likeable zoftig  gal - who once starred on "Cheers" opposite seasoned pro Ted Danson - admits the reality bill-of-fare transformed her ideas about herself a tad  during the course of piecing the project together.

"I wasn't going to worry about touch-ups, but when I caught a glimpse of the footage, I realized I am definitely a make-up girl."

"I'm not going to be perfect-looking like the Kardashians, though" she sniffed.

Athough she appears to have a lusty appetite for male company, the breezy outgoing Alley hasn't seriously dated for about ten years, she confessed.

Years ago, at an awards ceremony, the ballsy broad strode up to the podium to snatch up a coveted Emmy she won, and thanked husband (at the time) Parker Stevenson for the "big one".

That's what got her juices flowing, I guess!

Is she pining for the earth to move once again?

If you read between the lines, I surmise the answer is, yes.

Kristie has a pretty face, and luminous eyes, so a svelte figure is all she needs now to turn heads once again.

Of course, as Jessica Simpson recently lamented on Dave Letterman, guys like something to grab onto apparently.

Alley is certainly worth her weight in gold in that regard.

While chubby chasers are a rarefied - quirky breed - just betcha there is one waiting in the wings for the TV personality currently rising like a phoenix from the ashes of despair.

You go, girl!

Las Vegas..."Firefly" at Plaza serves up scrumptious steak & mushroom skewers!! View of Freemont Steet dazzling...

I zipped down to Sin City for a respite from the LA LA LAND for a few days.

The desert oasis is sizzling hot right now!

Shortly after I checked into my Hotel, I spied an in-house promo for Firefly - a domed restaurant at the Plaza - which provides a spectacular panoramic view of the dazzling night lights on Freemont Street (at the downtown Vegas strip).

I wasn't expecting much when I set my sights on a skewer of steak and mushrooms, but shortly after I slipped a tasty morsel into my mouth, I was sold on the scrumptious finger food offered up in a delicious garlic sauce.

The ale hit the spot, too, as I settled back in my comfy chair and enjoyed the effervescent night life all around me.

For tourists interested in dinner and a show, the Rat Pack is a sure bet and packing 'em in nightly at the Plaza Hotel  upstairs.

See 'ya there!

Adam Lambert...Hi Fi recordings continue to duke it out!

If American Idol fans have been following the Adam Lambert/ Hi Fi Recordings cat fight - the latest "just in" - won't send 'em into a tailspin.

Yeah, it's all just a lot of - they said, she said - eh?

In a nutshell, it was announced last week - after the single "Want" was released on iTunes - that Hi Fi would press a full-fledged album later this summer from a bulk of musical musings Lambert apparently conjured up in a recording studio with little ado over the past two or three years.

Understandably, Lambert has a legitimate reason to be upset, if what he asserts is true.

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded in 2005 were being released."

"Since then I discovered the entire track listing revealed online today."

"I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album. Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public.

"I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press and I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

If you can't trust your handlers, then might as well pack it in, kiddo.

Those kind of woes obviously led to Michael Jackson's early demise if the truth be known.

Will Adam have to cut Hi Fi loose?

Maybe not, but the two need to confer, and get their creative differences squared away.

It's a messy kind of train wreck spilling out all over the music industry landscape in living color.

In an effort to effect damage control - and prevent their meal ticket from jumping ship - Hi Fi released their own version of the tawdry tale.

"As we've already outlined, releasing this music was always the plan. That plan was changed by 19 Recordings after Adam won America over with his extraordinary talent."

"It's a shame that his management/record company choose to disavow their client's work and discredit him as a songwriter.

"As an independent company whose role it is to help put this out, we at Hi Fi think this is an absolute slap in the face to Wilshire Records."

"That small indie music company, run by an experienced music producer, Malcolm Welsford, thrives on finding, nurturing and championing new talent, and now they find themselves at a tremendous potential loss."

"Adam's songwriting partner, Monte Pittman, now finds himself at a tremendous potential loss. Via the press, in the words of the musician they dedicated so much time and money to, they are being told that their work with Adam should never see the light of day."

Or, be given half-the-chance to take a stab at the unpredictable pop charts.

In a kissy-face effort to salvage the ship before it goes down, a Hi Fi rep rebounded a tad in the eyes of Adam - no doubt - when he ended his press release with a statement rife with glowing tributes about Adam's musical gifts.

To save their necks? No doubt.

"We apologize for what has become a tiresome tit for tat, particularly on a day that we mourn the loss of a truly original, game-changing entertainer, but unfortunately, each statement released in Adam's name contains a different story."

"We remain steadfast in our assertion that we seek only to share the music Adam wrote, according to plan, so his fans know the depth of his talent and see that he will be handsomely rewarded for his work."

But, here comes the kicker!

On the heels of the mud-slinging, Hi Fi noted for the record one stickler which may back someone into a corner they can't squeeze out of.

Not even with a king-size jar of KY.

Yeah, someone may get fu**ed - um - in the end.

After all, record execs are now alleging that they have a bona fide recording contract with Adam, which was signed on Feb. 12 (2008).

Holy American Idol, Batman!

In fact, it was because of that little piece of binding legal "tender", that the CD track - "Want" - got the "green light" to be released through iTunes a scant few days ago.

Oops!

Well, 'ya know what they say: the proof is in the pudding.

Someone may have to fess up pronto to save face - and more importantly - avoid litigation.

In the final analysis, I lean on Adam's side when it comes to a course of action.

Any true artist who is a professional would balk at the idea of cutting a CD that wasn't up-to-snuff - especially in view of the stunning turn-of-events which occurred in recent weeks on American Idol - which has turned Adam Lambert into a household "brand" name, for starters.

Nor is it to the advantage of Hi Fi to release recordings of their top dog which are demo-grade - and quite possibly - below professional recording standards.

Adam and Hi Fi need only tweak and rearrange the material on the demos in order to strike a potential mother lode, in my estimation, as I noted in a blog post earlier this week.

After all, an artist's early recordings - coming on the heels of International success - are often deemed the most valuable to collectors, connoisseurs, and music-lovers in general.

Haven't the dueling partners ever heard of the phrase musical roots?

Into the studio, girls!

American Idol...Adam Lambert fesses up! Uh, Ho Hum...

'Ya sure fooled us with this Butch look, Adam!

In an unexpected news flash this morning, an entertainment reporter breathlessly announced to the masses around the country that American Idol "instant-famer" has confessed.

He's gay!

Whoa Nellie!

Was he the last dude on the planet to figure it out?

Las Vegas...Queen light & sound show tribute dazzles tourists at Fremont Experience!

The sky turned pitch black, a bolt of lightning zig-zagged across the night heavens, and a crack of thunder sent shivers up and down the spine.

Should Vegas tourists dash for cover before wild torrential rains descended upon 'em?

Naw.

The stormy outburst was simply an intro - albeit a spectacular one - to an awesome light & sound show on Fremont Street paying tribute to the legendary rock band "Queen".

A montage of captivating images - juxtaposed with the words and music of the gargantuan hit - "We are the Champions" - kept a rapt audience in thrall on the packed street below.

An earlier presentation - built upon a Classic hit - "American Pie" - was just as mesmerizing.

In fact - when shots of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King were seamlessly spliced with images of the turbulent sixties - the visual montage broke free from the realm of entertainment and transformed into a powerful social and political statement that truly reflected the era.

The overhead canopy - which is billed as the largest wide screen on the planet, was constructed in 1995.

Fremont Street officials boast there are not only 12 million LED lights firing up the screen nightly, but up a rousing 550,000 watt sound system to rock your world, too.

In addition to the must-see VIVA VISION extravaganza - which pays tribute to top-notch recording artists - a myriad of stage performers entertain tourists nightly for free.

When you consider that a handful of the local bars on the strip offer up drinks at bargain-basement prices (99 cent Margaritas, for instance) and snacks at cost (All American Hot Dogs at Mermaids are $1.07 with tax) that makes the Fremont Street experience a destination nightspot for naughty boys (and girls) out on a budget.

See 'ya there!

Cash Cab...cruises into the downtown streets of Los Angeles!

One day I was channel surfing when I stumbled across a cable show, aptly titled, Cash Cab.

When New Yorkers flag a taxi on mean city streets in a mad dash to the airport, or uptown to Tin Pan Alley to catch a Broadway show, they may unwittingly alight into a bright yellow chauffeured auto which is actually a game show on wheels!

If the riders agree to play, every question that is answered correctly, nets a pay day.

On the other hand, miss three queries in a row, and their sorry butt will be turfed back into the street as middle America scorns at 'em at home.

One day, a trio of effervescent unsuspecting pals really hit the jackpot.

Yeah, they departed the cash cab a few hundred bucks the richer.

Exotic cocktails and pricey sushi on the cash cab, all 'round!

Unfortunately, an agent for a big-time athlete, was "sol" on his third question in spite of assistance from a friend.

Oh, didn't I tell you?

If a contestant gets stumped, there are a couple of lifelines to grab onto (much like those within a player's grasp on Regis Philbin's popular TV hit "Who Wants to be a Millionaire") .

If a tough brain teaser throws a guest off-kilter, he or she may call a friend on their cell for a tip or clue.

Or, in the alternative, the cabbie will screech to a halt and offer up the chance to ask a passer-by to show off their knowledge at trivial pursuits.

Golly, one lucky stiff must have had horseshoes up his a**.

How many pedestrians do 'ya expect would know who the author of "Atlas Shrugged" was?

Moi, of course, because a student I had a crush on in grade 10 was a fan of the writer.

But, I expected a strike out, believe me.

Wouldn't 'ya know it, the woman strolling along with a pal, hollered out the correct answer without skipping a beat.

"Ayn Rand."

Whoa Nellie, good one!

So, the producers of the novel entertaining bill of fare, are gearing up for a stint next season on the wild 'n crazy streets of the West Coast's City of Angels (Los Angeles).

"Maybe it will get more people to flag a cab and leave the gas-guzzling environment-damaging SUV's at home," a show rep lamented.

Me?

I'm going to wander downtown and keep my eagle eye out for the cash machine careening the jam-packed streets.

Yeah, I love trivia, alright.

But, more importantly, easy extra cash to pay bills in these troubled financial times has rustled up a great incentive to walk the pavement, too.

Um, you know what I mean!
