The Big Lebowski...San Francisco tonight @ Metreon! Bowling, White Russians, & Cult hilarity!

When I cruised into the Metreon Theatre to catch "The American" yesterday, I spied a flyer for a regular weekly event now a popular mainstay every Friday night in the heart of the dynamic night-life of San Francisco.

The Big Lebowski
(Live on Stage)

In addition to a screening of the cult classic film, the show's presenters also offer up Bowling!

And, from what I understand, there is a cast of characters foot-loose in the theatre environs keeping the laughter to a fever pitch each week.

In Los Angeles, I attended a number of packed screenings at midnight under the auspices of the Insomniac Theatre (at the former Fairfax District Revival House on Beverly).

I was also invited to participate in the Big Lebowski podcast last year when die-hard fans started up the site which is thriving.

Las Vegas...cheap rooms! Summer of 1969 celebrations! Tropical heat wave...

As I breezed through the last stretch of the Mojave Desert and spied Las Vegas - a dazzling gem sparkling in the mid-day sun ahead - I was suddenly hit smack dab in the face with a tropical heat wave.

Whew!

I should have packed a cooler of Marguerite's!

No matter.

Soon, I would be firmly ensconced in my cheapie hotel room ($10 bucks a night!) and ready to take the big splash 'round town.

Sin-city lovers are trickling into town to catch the "Summer of 1969" celebrations underway at the downtown Freemont Street experience.

And, there's a bowling convention!

I expect Big Lebowski fans will be chomping at the bit to score a lucky strike on the lanes in the event they strike out at the slots!

I roared up to the Hotel a bit shy of check-in - at which point - the desk clerk informed me that my room was not ready.

So, I sauntered off to take in a few of the eye-catching sights.

As it turned out, Lady Luck was smiling on me right from the get-go.

When I called the newly-renovated Hotel about an hour later - the clerk noted that although a single room I requested was not made up yet - I was welcome to an upgrade (free of charge).

Would I mind a double-room with two Queen-size beds?

Heck, no!

The wheels started turning inside my mischievous little head.

I'd invite a couple of my friends over for a pajama party!

A few cocktails - and a pillow fight or two later - we'd head out on the town!

Of course, I'd have to dash into Mermaids for a deep-fried oreo or two.

And, line up for the scrumptious buffet offered up each evening at the Sahara, just a hop-and-skip away.

Maybe I'll take in - "The Lion King" - a big hit here right now in the desert playground.

I'll keep you posted, fer sure!

Big Lebowski...podcast up-and-running! The dude twitters...

For the past year, I have been reporting on the frenzied phenomenon of the Coen Brother cult classic, the Big Lebowski.

In fact, a post I penned on a wild midnight screening I attended at the Insomniac Cinema - at the Regency in West Hollywood - has been one of the highest ranked at the blog site.

Fans just can't seem to gobble up enough juicy tidbits about the dude and his off-beat motley crew!

But, now there is a plethora of things lebowski at the Dude's web site, sure to satiate any die-hard fan!

Just a few weeks ago, for instance, two of the webmasters who actually maintain the "Dude's" homepage (Jeff Bridges) got in touch and informed me a Lebowski podcast was in the works.

Kewl!

Time to light up a doobie and celebrate, eh?

Especially now that a sweet-smelling updated "Lebowski" news flash just floated into my mailbox!

The Big Lebowski podcast site is up-and-running!

And, guess what?

The dudes are also following my own posts (& what have you) on the Lebowski "goings-on".

Yeah, the dude twitters!

Who knows, maybe I'll just take up bowling, and try to beat Jesus at his own game!
