El Cortez Hotel...demented guard stalks me in lobby in Vegas! Mentally ill man needs therapy...

As I strolled towards an elevator at the El Cortez Hotel last night, an African-American security guard scooted out-of-nowhere from the left at an aisle, scurried across my path (as he gave me a sidelong glance), then stood at the two elevators I was approaching acting like he was waiting to take the lift to an upper floor.

Since there was a railing on one side - and two guests waiting for the elevator limiting the space for access to the elevator - I stood slightly behind (and to the left) of the guard expecting (as logic dictated) that the lumbering overweight Hotel employee would move toward the elevator door once it slid open.

When the elevator arrived, however, something strange occurred which sent a shiver up and down my spine.

I suddenly realized the demented guard was playing eerie cloak-and-dagger games with me!

For example - instead of following the two other guests inside the elevator - he stood in a frozen position as he faced the wall just forward of me.

Because  it struck me he was acting in a peculiar fashion, I focused more closely on the man, and was shocked to notice that he was observing me through a reflection in a brass in-laid section in the wall that mirrored our slightly blurred images.

The security guard was stalking me!

When he realized I was "on" to him, he tried to suppress all the emotion sweeping across his face, as he strode off to the left and I joined the two elderly guests already inside the elevator.

In view of the man's scary behavior, I decided to publish this post, because I fear this man (or someone he may be working in tandem with) may wish me some physical harm.

What else am I to think when some lunatic - who works for about two bucks an hour - engages in such bizarre threatening and intimidating conduct without provocation?

I trust that if Hotel Management at the El Cortez happen across this post that they were will seriously consider putting the guard on leave and arranging for psychiatric care - because, in my estimation - the wacko loser  is a obviously a potential threat to guests at the hotel.

Footnote
When headed toward check-out on Thursday (the day after this post was published) a second guard gave me the evil eye, too.
Twice in fact!
Once, when I exited the elevator to turn in my room key - and again - when I strode to the rear of the Hotel lobby to the garage for my car.
On both occasions, it appeared the short unattractive Asian was trying to intimidate me as he nearly blocked my path.
Or, was he retaliating against me for penning the negative article on one of his security-guard buddies?
Needless to say, in view of the foregoing, I do not feel that the El Cortez is safe for tourists.
For this reason, I am posting a consumer alert to warn travellers.

West Hollywood Pavillions...finally gets message! Hires white male security guard...sigh!

After the fiasco with the Popcorn Mafia at the New Beverly Cinema last night, I zipped over to Pavillions to snatch up a snack just shy of the witching hour.

As I strolled through the front doors, I pinched myself.

Was I dreaming?

Right off-the-bat (in plain view) I caught sight of newly-installed security guard.

And, guess what?

He was tall, white, and standing at his post in a respectful dignified manner!

At long last, Pavillions woke up, and smelled the coffee.

In recent weeks, shortly after a long drawn-out renovation, Pavillions threw its doors open wide once again.

But, the celebratory mood subsided - and turned to anger - when long-time Caucasian residents continued to encounter rude imposing African-American security guards on duty daily who harassed them when they shopped.

To many, it was obvious, that the posse of gruff uniformed employees were racist.

Although many complaints were uttered up - and I penned a couple of posts on the controversial issue - Pavillions proceeded to cast a blind eye to the ongoing problem.

In view of what has finally unfolded before my very eyes, it appears that Pavillions has finally fathomed the intriguing (complex) social strata that is at the heartbeat of West Hollywood.

Now that I have published this post, I expect all the girls (and local females, too) will be darting in to Pavillions to get a gander at the tall handsome security guard, who fits into the terrain comfortably.

Sorry, folks, I saw him first!

San Francisco...racist security guard @ Burger King harasses customers!

Racist African-American guards at Burger King!

I always thought that San Francisco was a sophisticated city, brimming with intelligence, until this morning!

Up and about early, I popped into Burger King at Hyde & Market Streets, for a quick snack to energize me.

Shortly after I began munching on my chow, I whipped out my laptop to check for e-mail.

Imagine that!

A short fat African-American security guard - ugly as sin - strolled up and scolded me for keying in data on my PC.

"You're supposed to be eating food," he snarled at me.

Yes, I expect the lame-brain was blind, too; otherwise, he would have noticed the wrappings for my burger, fries, and cup for my beverage inches away from the end of his snotty nose!

Once again, a racist African-American (with an obvious grudge) attempted to push around a white dude, thinking he would put up with his bullsh**.

Wrong!

But, get this.

When I complained to the Manager on duty, and she called him up on the inappropriate behaviour, he denied it.

Duh!

About a dozen customers were witness to the shocking conduct!

Obviously, he doesn't have a brain either, or he would have fessed up (and apologized).

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, so I expect that when his boss's back is turned, he'll be at it again.

So, it may be wise to cross the street, and patronize McDonald's.

By the way, they have wireless access there, too!

Pavilions...sale scam! Nepotism unfair to work applicants...

A few weeks ago, I penned a consumer alert on CVS, to warn about their deceptive business practices.

For example, the coprorate giant advertised sales on the shelves in their retail outlets, which were not honored at the cash register at check out.

For consumers who were expecting a discount, it amounted to one big rip-off!

Until CVS got caught, that is.

Shortly after a lawsuit was filed for damages, CVS settled the charges out-of-court without admitting fault.

But, weeks later, I also became victim of their dishonest attempt to lure customers into buying items on the premise they were on sale, when - in fact - CVS did not intend to honor the advertised sale price.

After my own consumer alert was published on the Internet, a government agency also stepped in and began an investigation into the deceptive business practices at the pharmacy.

Now, it appears that Pavilions has also jumped on the dishonest bandwagon.

The other morning, for instance, I was standing in line at he check-out counter, when I witnessed an exchange between a customer and a clerk which turned out to be an eye-opening experience.

For example, at least four items on sale, were not properly charged to the shopper.

In fact, if the middle-aged man was not on top of things, he probably would have been overcharged for the goods and never been the wiser.

A pie advertised at $5.99 was rung up at $7.99, for instance.

Because the Pavilion's clerk wouldn't accept his word for it - I was forced to wait in line along with the disgruntled man - until a box girl dashed back and verified the advertised sale price.

When corrections were made, it turns out Pavilions would have charged the hapless neighborhood resident about five or six dollars in excess of the sum actually due!

Needless to say, I paid attention when I sauntered up to have my groceries tabulated.

Shortly after my purchases were bagged up, I strode over to the Starbuck's outlet at the streetside of the spacious newly-renovated Pavilion's supermarket, for a cup of Earl Grey tea.

As I sat there, savoring the tasty hot beverage, a bit of the conversation going down around me fell on my alert ears.

Judging from what I overheard from employees on a break, Pavilions also appears to engage in other questionable practices which are downright disturbing.

It was revealed that day that several of the workers at Pavilions have relatives in gainful employment there, too.

From an ethical point of view, it's a highly irregular practise, for sure.

When the store first opened weeks ago, and a call went out for employees, were candidates hired based on their skills and overrall experience (and a resume verifying a work history), or did management hire based on nepotism?

If relatives got a priority nod, that was hardly fair to outsiders who applied, wouldn't you agree?

From a practical point of view, nepotism is not politically correct in the workplace, either.

If there was ever a question about  productivity (alleged theft, whatever) levelled at a worker - common sense dictates - the relatives would vouch for (and protect) their own!

Along the same lines of thinking, it should be obvious that if an unhappy shopper lodged a complaint against an employee - for being rude or unprofessional - it is doubtful that the relatives on the sidelines would make good independent witnesses.

In a nutshell, an  incestuous workplace like that, is trouble waiting to happen!

While I am on the subject of Pavilions, I have to note for the record, that a couple of racist African-American security guards are continuing to annoy and intimidate a few of the white shoppers.

That's what happens when you bring in uneducated workers from the struggling lower class (brimming with resentment  towards privileged whites) - outfit them in a security guard's uniform - and bestow upon them  a little authority they can't handle.

Managers at Pavilions need their heads examined!

They sure haven't been thinking straight.

Or, perhaps those unanswered complaints to the executive offices, say it all.

Pavilions doesn't give a damn!

Pavilions...managers with bad attitude & intimidating Afro-American security guards scare away customers...

The Grand Opening" for the newly-renovated Pavilions in West Hollywood was a festive event for neighborhood shoppers who were treated to coupons offering up free merchandise, scrumptious food samples lovingly prepared by a handful of celebrated Chefs, and even on site wine-signing events featuring Napa Valley wine producers of note.

Regular readers will recall a couple of features I penned and posted - when the doors of the aesthetically-pleasing grocery - swung wide-open once again and droves of excited customers swarmed in to take a look-see and snap up the inviting offerings.

Unfortunately, just a scant two weeks later, customers are grumbling about employee attitude.

The way a couple of the managers have been haughtily striding about the store, sizing customers up-and-down, you'd think they were blessed with a ten-inch dick swinging between their legs.

For loyal Pavilions fans like myself shopping at that location for over twenty years (and other long-time residents in the neighborhood) the snotty attitude is off-putting to say the least.

But, it is undoubtedly a handful of tall Afro-American security guards all-decked-out in black-tailored suits (who stand stone faced at the entrances and exits of the store), that are causing shoppers to whisper disapproval inside-and-out the grocery.

Tight shoes, or a bout of diarrhea (bad sushi?), may account for the unpleasant scowls are their emotionless mugs.

I doubt that scenario, somehow.

In gentile WeHo, the Pavilions henchmen are a blight on the landscape, without doubt.

Pavilions, you're hardly out of the starter's gate, and you're scaring away customers.

Wake up and smell the Starbucks java, that no one is buying.
